Thanks anon! I'm not dead-set on any particular design. I just mentioned TKL because it's smaller than full-sized KBs and I never use the numpad.

The price is not set in stone either. I can go over $200 if I gain something substantial (more than looks because I don't care about looks).

As for switches, I want something comfy that won't tire me after 8 hrs of use. I'd prefer something softer (but I'm not sure on switch type).

If you guys have any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

If you want a softer switch, Topre can't be beaten. You won't really find a TKL, though. I have an HHKB and it's wonderful. I would recommend it.

Also, a note on the clears, like I said: if you don't bottom them out, they're rather light and smooth. Very comfortable. Just takes a minute to get used to them.

Holy shit this thing feels amazing. 35g is EXTREMELY light and the thock it makes is super satisfying despite it feeling like a looser Topre. Keycaps are a thick PBT but some have manufacturing marks left on them. Modifier keys are heavier but they include springs so you can adjust them.
Time to mess with the software and make use of the RGB meme.

had a cmstorm quickfire xt with cherry reds, then bought two 10-keyless chink keyboards cause i needed more space on my desk with some ripoff red and blue switches and the keyboards feel way more sturdy, top is made of metal, the little kick-stands (can't remember the fuckin name) on the chink keyboards have rubber on them, the cmstorm doesn't, and i've checked many other expensive keybaords, almost none of them have rubber stands. why? i don't think i'll ever pay more than $40 for a keyboard again, redpill?

Found mine two years ago. 75%, steel plate mount, PS2 NKRO, Cherry clears and grays with dampers and black springs, dolch caps with oddball granite modifiers, separate numpad with a few extra functions.

I made it out of an old cop car keyboard. The soldering and stuff didn't take much effort at all.

Still got like five other mechanical keyboards in the closet but I haven't used them in a long time. This just works for me. Tactile, fairly quiet, compact, durable and functional. I've cranked a good few hundred thousand words through it and all it needs is to be cleaned every once in awhile. Caps were probably the biggest meme on it since it's pure vanity and pricey, but eh. I've probably got my money out of them at this point.

After much looking around, I think I've concluded that the 65% (?) layout is the best of both world
