If they are the same price then it is worth it, but it wont matter if the motherboard doesn't support XMP.
>>
>>59451901
B250 does have XMP to bump 2133 to 2400.

Also regarding this whole topic I went ahead, made an account and posted over there
https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/600a5m/3200mhz_vs_2400mhz_ram_details_inside/
and apparently the 3200Mhz RAM might not even have a 2400Mhz profile built in. While I'm sure it'd be easy to achieve anyway with a Z270 I'm not sure a B250 could.

What is the purpose of the finally block in java exception handling?
What is the difference between

catch (Exception exception)

I see.
So in these cases:

try
{
foo(); //may throw FooException
}
catch (BarException exception)
{
...
}
finally
{
baz();
}

try
{
return foo() // may throw FooException
}
catch (BarException exception)
{
return 0;
}
finally
{
baz()
}

In both these cases, baz() always gets executed before the call stack unwinds?

What can I do about an android phone (Honor 7) that can't have more than 2 apps open without closing them when not in use, and then restarting them when I go back to it?

It's a RAM issue, I think, but the 'RAM available' notifier hasn't really changed much compared to before this issue. The keyboard's also laggy as fuck too now.

Any way other than resetting the phone?

That's the issue -- mine doesn't. Maybe i didnt explain it well.

It can be very annoying in youtube for example when I lose the video i was watching because the app acts as if its only just opening

I've got an audio file which is damaged somehow, the track length is reported wrong and it can be played but it takes most media players a long time to load it and some just won't, you also can't skip around in the file or it just restarts.

Normally when this happens I open it in audacity and export it to an uncompressed wav before converting that into an mp3, but even the uncompressed wav is damaged and can't be converted. Can I fix it somehow? I'd rather not have to play it in one media player while recording a new file in audacity as it's a half hour radio show and there are a few episodes I need to fix like this.

mp3val and "MP3 Files Validator and Organizer" both say there's nothing wrong with the file.

Just hazarding a guess, but I'd say maybe the audio was 56, and somebody expanded it, not realizing it wouldn't increase the quality, only the filesize. In leu of that I'd put my faith in the third party tool. Windows isn't great at labeling media. 56k should sound noticeably shitty though. Like a slightly weak cellphone conversation
>>
>>59454649
Windows reports the size of the container of the file, it's actual bit rate can be anything up to that amount. I don't know what MP3 tag is doing but it could theoretically be analysing the actual bit rate, but I doubt it because that's a really heavy operation. I use Spek to check the real bit rates of audio files.

Firefox tends to freeze up and crash or needing to be closed down via the task manager after a few days of being left open.

Is there any way to troubleshoot what causes this?

Furthermore, to make matters worse, half the time after doing so, the "restore tabs" page doesn't even load so I can't recover the tabs I had open. Any effective way to troubleshoot that, as well?

Alternatively, a different web browser that can still run the same extensions that won't have these issues?

Goddamnit. Can't not download that song. Technoesq synthetic stuff is the best at hiding low bitrate, since you're basically just adding a tinny quality anyway. You might as well have uploaded a midi
>>

You do realize your ssd will last over 2 PETABYTES worth of writes before it will show wear, correct?

I think that most antivirus software are able to scan disc images safely, you could just mount the drive into an image and then scan it.

You do not have to worry about BIOS attacks unless you are a high-ranking government/corporate official. BIOS malware is almost exclusively written from the ground up to attack a very specific network of computers (or even just one).
>>
>>59455317
Bios infections are still considered pretty rare at this point, although many vulnerabilities are definitely there. If yours was infected, there's pretty much nothing you could know or do about it, although virustotal does have a way of letting you upload it's contents. You could use any number of AVs to scan the drive, although nothing will detect currently undiscovered malware

Sooner or later it will probably start being a more common attack vector. But PC use is diminishing relative to mobile, and malware usually doesn't have to resort to anything that challenging to survive, so it's not a real priority for attackers. Plus newer bios will probably be designed better.

Malware would have to infect your OS and get elevated access first, and then it would have to have a means of imitating the bios flashing software. Once you were infected, it would just run the extra infected code at boot, and there's really nothing your OS could do to stop it, like when lenovo set it's bios to download and reinstall crapware automatically every time you clean installed windows
>>
>>59455669
Probably not. I wouldn't recommend it if you're in something like a crowded apartment complex competing with a lot of other networks, but if it's just a couple of networks there shouldn't be too much interference

I'm thinking of picking up another monitor so I can have dual monitors. My current monitor is a BenQ XL2430T, which is 144hz. In order for it to be 144hz, it has to have a DVI cable instead of HDMI. My PC, with a MSI GTX 1080, only has one DVI cable slot, as I do not have SLI graphics cards.

Does this mean in order for me to have dual 144hz monitors, I would need another graphics card? If you were in my situation (One GPU, one 144hz monitor seeking another monitor) what would you do?

Sorry guys but I can't for the life of me find an explanation for this. My headphones are not loud as they should be. I'm using. the Logitech g633. I was using the 3.5mm cable then switched back to usb and now when I increase the volume to 100% it's really low. If I keep increasing the volume, it gets louder although still at 100% but then at some point it just resets back to being low. If anyone can help I'll suck your dick.

is your modem separate from the router?
based on the IP addresses it looks like pinging your modem has to go through your routers WAN port first, then goes to the modem, back to the router and back to you
compared to a local device which goes through the routers switch.

that would make the modem an "outside" device and not local.
>>
>>59459943
It's a modem+router gateway combo. Arris model from TWC.

I didn't realize it could be set up the way you described; that's very interesting. Is there a way to verify if the modem is accessed remotely via the router's WAN port rather than through the switch?

Whats more battery efficient?

>>
>>59459997
Probably downloading, the less you have wifi on the less battery you use.
>>
>>59459997
>>59460060
I'd argue that streaming is more efficient because it requires the system to be on for less time. If you download beforehand you need to leave it on for download time + watch time while if you stream you only need to leave it on for the one interval.

Also it's possible to turn your wifi off after you've finished downloading the movie even if you stream it, depending on how it's implemented.

>>59461046
Not him, but I bought myself an X220 and I wouldn't call excellent quality to a keyboard that flexes here and there and a dock that wobbles like crazy. I'm willing to bet if I drop this laptop a few times there won't be any problems for sure, but it sure gives the impression that you could just press a little bit hard with your finger on some part on the case and break it. Like cheap chinese plastic.

Heck I took out the keyboard bezel to see what was going on, saw that I could fucking make an L with it by flexing it without any resistance whatsoever, I don't know what the purpose of it is at that point. And the worst thing is, I was going to buy a new one in case the problem is that I got a pretty old bezel and there's some physics shit I wouldn't understand that would cause it to flex over time, but apparently new ones do the same.

Really, I get that you can drop a bottle of water on the keyboard, dry it for a day and it would work fine, unlike macbooks which are designed so they fail under such circumstances (and a lot of money is being invested making sure they fail that way) but don't be surprised when people see that shit and think it's made of piss poor quality plastic.

I know that macbooks can be easily broken, but some people could also learn how to take care of their shit. "My phone can submerge in water and take pictures" fine, but I'm going to take the steps necessary to avoid such thing, and in fact, I have a cheap chink quality smartphone I bought 2 years ago that I only dropped once, had small scratches, and is probably more susceptible to water damage and falling damage than any apple or samsung product. Same with laptops.

I have a first-gen i7 920 in one of the very first LAN party-inspired Thermaltake micro-ATX cases, so the cooling and layout was never really good and today it idles at 96 degrees Celsius and only gets hotter over the next few minutes. Trying to download a Windows update or even search for a Windows update now overheats it and it shuts down at 100-ish degrees on its own even after a full cleaning and reapplying the thermal paste (Antec with diamond particles). I've tried both the dot and spread methods for applying the paste but both still get similar temps. I'm using the stock cooler because the space is very tight so I can't just throw an H212 on it, but I have a standing fan that I blow directly into the case so that it hovers at 98 degrees, but even then sometimes it overheats anyway. The partially modular PSU sits right on top of the CPU, but it has no bottom or top intake fan, and the 60 mm exhaust case fanbehind the CPU melted so I removed it, basically turning the case into an oven except for the single 60 mm back case fan by the GPU and the front 90 mm fan that barely does anything because it's so far away from the components. There are lots of spare cables blocking airflow in front and sitting on top of the CPU cooler because the PSU is not fully modular, but they all can't be gathered in one place because they're daisy-chained to other cables that are required throughout the case.

a) Abandon the case and transfer all the components to a newer, bigger case?
b) Replace components and keep the case? (Replace missing back 60 mm fan, upgrade to fully modular PSU with intake fan, somehow find an old low profile/thin cooler for CPU)
c) Let it die.
d) (Other)

It's my first custom built PC so it has sentimental value and it still works fine, it just overheats to hell. It can still do Photoshop animation work and play games like Bioshock Infinite at 1080p so I don't want to just junk it. Is it natural for old CPUs to run hotter and hotter as they age?

>run 2 nox emu + overwatch
>cpu at 2.8ghz

why did it drop? fucker is causing all the mini stutter and lags between tabbing in an out of overwatch between games. why won't it stay at 3.2ghz or higher since I'm doing more stuff and running some cpu intensive stuff?

Depends where you live. Some places have some pretty strict rules where even selling sex toys is considered obscene and against the law. You will probably look like a weirdo either way though.

I'd be doing it with at least two other people. Would that look weird?

Did I just legit brick my motherboard?

Greentext to avoid wall of text

>decide to OC my now 5 y/o CPU
>have latest BIOS (for my MSI P67 motherboard) but OC is not sticking properly
>google it, lots of people apparently have issues with the latest BIOS (which I also have)
>find out how to downgrade BIOS, it works
>but now my GPU (7970) isn't supported anymore (downgraded too far)
>put in old ATI X1300 (lol) to boot into windows again and upgrade to the BIOS right after the 7970 came out (but not the latest)
>utility is easier this time because it's an upgrade not a downgrade
>Windows reboots and black screen again

At first I thought now the X1300 is too old and put in the 7970 again, but now neither GPU work.

The screen stays black. But the fans are still spinning and the LEDs on my mouse light up.

Does the mobo/cpu not have integrated graphics? Your GPU might not work but you should still be able to get some visual output using integrated graphics.
>>
Is there a significant performance hit for using Guava's Optionals for returning information from a data structure as opposed to returning the variables themselves?

It's a P67 so unfortunately no.

That's the reason why I had to put in the X1300 in the first place
>>
>>59462914
Might be fucked unless you can rainman it and reset your BIOS again without any visuals

About 5-6 years ago I had an OCZ Vertex crap out on me.
>>
>>59462946
well fug

I just tried "booting" into windows by waiting and blindly entering my password to see if it plays the startup sound and no avail.

The mouse only lights up periodically too (not constantly as it normally does) as I've noticed and the keyboard (like numlock) doesn't light up at all.

what a day...

now I have to decide if I get another 1155 board from ebay or just upgrade everything altogether

I have a homeserver and a VPS with a domain/fixed IP.

My homeserver hosts all my important stuff (cloud, remotestorage.io, music streaming), but I want to access it from outside my home network. I could just setup a simple dynamic DNS, but I want to access each service from a different subdomain, like music.example.net, cloud.example.net etc.

How would I proceed to do that? I have some basics with linux servers, but I just can't find the right information on how to get started. Any tips are welcome.
I use nginx as webserver.
>>
>>59463233
point all subdomains to the same ip and create different directives for each hostname in nginx.

Is there any way to buy a game through steam and just get a key for it?
>>
>>59464055
if the game has no native steam support you get a key with the purchase which you then have to enter it in the game yourself.

What's the best way to sandbox Win10 away from other OSs? Between new CPUs not supporting Win7, and dx12, eventually I'm going to end up with a Win10 install, but only for games. Microsoft isn't just making shit products now, they're actively being hostile to the users, and I fully expect there to be a "whoops!" update that fucks up OSs on other disks one day. The plan is to upgrade to Ryzen and some shiny new GPU, and use Debian for day-to-day usage, with a Windows installation around with nothing except for games and related programs(OBS, VoIP, something for screenshots, etc). Is virtualizing both side by side like Linus did in his 7 Gamers 1 CPU video viable? Being able to run both at once and just grabbing a KVM switch to switch between them would be amazing for cutting down on my Windows dependency.

Should I fully update it or not update it at all? I'm using a disc for the Update 1 version. Last time I installed it without updates, things went pretty smooth I might say.
