I've been a member of scenetime for about 4 years, had a demonoid accnt before that and empornium at one point in time.

Anyway, i've never really ventured from scenetime since i found it, my impression was that it's a relatively average (barely) private tracker and i've never had any problems of any kind.

I guess my question is am i missing out on anything? Should i try to join one of these "more private" trackers or is it just a waste of time especially if i have no intention of contributing new content/posting.

All i really download is tv shows/movies rarely linux games and can easily maintain any ratio with my pi seedbox. I like an rss feed if i want to use flexget.

I have heard that the owner of all these is a greedy lying theif so that does bother me.

The real answer is they don't want to confuse their users that they have a security problem. So they put user security at risk to save face since many users would misunderstand why they need to update their Paypal/eBay passwords. People conflate "change your password here" with "our security was compromised" when that isn't always the case.

Essentially, there is a very small chance of a leak occurring, but if it were to happen, the damage would be high (anyone could hijack an account - password, cookie session, passkey, authkey, etc is all at risk). Even though the chance is low, the potential for damage could be pretty high (remember, risk = chance x damage)

Most DDoS attacks targeted towards PTs are aimed at the tracker itself, not the site. The tracker is generally the weakest point in the chain, which is why when most sites have downtime due to DDoS attacks, it's the tracker which is failing, and NOT the site.
