ITT you're supposed to ask questions that do not deserve their own thread.

Read the sticky before posting, you can often find the answer faster there: >>51971506
Same goes for taking a minute or two and googling your issue first.
DO NOT BUMP YOUR QUESTION! You wont get an answer faster, and some people look for posts without replies.

Why would you use an abstract class if nothing will be inheriting it? That makes it literally impossible to do anything with.

Abstract classes are for when you need to define not only an interface, but also variables.

I'm having trouble installing Xubuntu. Yes I know that means I should an hero or at least just stop using computers, but let's look past that.

I've overwritten an installation of debian with Xubuntu, and the issue is that for whatever reason the Ubuntu installer isn't overwriting the grub from the debian installer. On top of that, the version of debian I installed was 32 bit (accident) and the version of Ubuntu I'm installing is 64 bit.

I've read several things online saying to go into Ubuntu live mode and install boot repair, but now whenever I try to boot into the USB it gets stuck at "Assuming Drive Cache Write Through", so I'm trying to do everything through grub rescue.

Please help me, I am but a lowly idiot.

Static methods can not be overwritten. If you make this movement class static, you will always be stuck with the same movement unless you rewrite the movement class.

If you make it non-static, and at some point you need a different form of movement, you can just subclass the movement class and overwrite that function.

On that note, why not add movement and combat capabilities to the classes that are going to be fighting and moving themselves?

You can pre-download maps if you don't want to use data. I think the only extra features are that gps can show where gas stations and restaurants are. You'd most likely need data on a phone.
>>
>>59119746
Okay, thanks.
I was thinking I'd have separate classes which all dealt with their own major functions, but looking at it now it would make sense to have attack() and move() in the Character superclass.
What are general uses for static stuff then?
>>
>>59119657
What OS?
>>
>>59119835
Copy pasted from a stack overflow answer:

One rule-of-thumb: ask yourself "does it make sense to call this method, even if no Obj has been constructed yet?" If so, it should definitely be static.

So in a class Car you might have a method double convertMpgToKpl(double mpg) which would be static, because one might want to know what 35mpg converts to, even if nobody has ever built a Car. But void setMileage(double mpg) (which sets the efficiency of one particular Car) can't be static since it's inconceivable to call the method before any Car has been constructed.

After reading so many intel shills talking about how much useless is a CPU with more than 4 cores I was wondering something.

When I play a video game I'm often doing few other things at the same time like watching a video on a second screen, talking with friends on mumble, music, downloading something...

How much other programs would impact the performances in games (considering that nowadays we see a lot of games benefiting from more cores) ?

With that filter in your screenshot you're essentially telling your "clumsy" application to force googles DNS server to send itself lagged packets which is impossible. If you want to send lagged packets from yourself to google you need to change the ip.src to your ip and the ip.dst to google. Also you have to assume that the delay will be higher than the value you've set according to the manual on the site.

The pictures of the S7 are clear and all, but they lack the magic and inspiration of the pictures from my S2. Port scanning, vuln scanning. Basically looking to see if there is any unpatched or vulnerable devices, and if there are known exploits for them.

If you're targeting a home connection, you're likely not going to find anything since almost all modems are also routers that do NAT, which is kind of like a one-way mirror. You can't see or contact computers behind the NAT without them talking out first.

I feel like I'm missing something here, but can't the zenbook do everything the chromebook can and more? Plus, if I wanted to, I could put chromeOS on the zenbook, while the chromebook hasn't come out with windows support yet.

Why is it recommended that you install a Linux iso using a torrent? I have been trying to download one straight but keeps stopping after a bit.

Probably to keep bandwidth costs down for the distributor. Just download the iso over http if you're having issues with a torrent.

>>
>>59123955
computationally it's pretty minimal nowadays, as far as modern home computers go, checksums are limited by IO speeds, not the cpu

the way torrents work is that you have the metadata (which is the contents of the .torrent file), which contains the files/folders "in" the torrent, along with checksums of every chunk of data
these chunks can be hashed and verified against the checksum in the metadata before being written out to disk
you can also use the .torrent file to verify the data manually, and re-download any failed chunks without needing to start from scratch

the reason http doesn't do this is because it doesn't have something comparable to the metadata, at least standard
sometimes files are provided with a separate checksum file (.sha1, .md5, etc) for users to manually check against

>Audio processing can be very computationally intensive. But Windows 7 and earlier versions of Windows did not provide support for hardware-offloaded audio processing.

in addition to the basics, some sound cards may also add additional "post process" effects like HRTF, reverb, etc which may or may not be done in hardware

You don't really need to know English for most coding languages because the English syntax used is usually quite simple, but there are coding languages based on languages other than English.

where they are and how to get them will depend on which distro you're using

for example, on arch, packages come with their development headers, where distros like debian prefer to ship them in separate packages

I'm on slackware, weird though, it is in the same place as your directory, but when I placed
#include </usr/include/Magick++.h>

For some reason, it gives me this:
WacomIntuos4LED.cpp:12:35: fatal error: /usr/include/Magick++.h: No such file or directory

The thing is, it used to be #include <Magick++.h>, even that didn't work hmm.

maybe try adding;
-I "/usr/include/ImageMagick-6"

to your make arguments

Yeah nice, it kinda works now, but it won't complete, I edited the Makefile and saw the directory name with only ImageMagick excluding the -6 so I added it. Now I get this rip

g++ -o intuos4-led-check icon-library.o WacomIntuos4LED.o intuos4-led-check.o  -lusb-1.0 -lMagick++
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-slackware-linux/5.3.0/../../../../x86_64-slackware-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lMagick++
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

Should I just remove -lMagick++ from the Makefile?

Oh shit nice! It works! Thanks a lot wow, it feels pretty good, doing my first code rewrite and compile of another program.

Now time to figure out how to fucking fix Krita since it broke after I got this https://slackware.pkgs.org/14.2/ktown-x86_64/krita-3.1.1-x86_64-1alien.txz.html

When I installed slackware, it came with the 2.9 version, but now I get
krita: error while loading shared libraries: libkritaui.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
after I installed 3.1.1 from pkgs.org then removing it.

It might be a similar issue, but I don't know. I downloaded the source code and was planning on building it from source, but damn there is no guide for slackware and most packages aren't out there.

If you have no idea or have no time it's alright. I'll work on it later.

so, you had 2.9, then installed 3.1.1 (you did remove 2.9 first, right?), then removed 3.1.1, is this right?

i'd remove anything related to krita and install it again to start with

>>
>>59127578
Lol, no I didn't remove 2.9. I don't know where to remove it from.

I know how to use removepkg, but I don't know how to remove preinstalled packages.

I'll look around
>>
>>59127594
my guess is installing 3.1.1 clobbered libkritaui.so.16 and probably more, and removing it removed those files along with it, crippling what's left of 2.9
>>
>>59127611
Yeah I can't find krita from pkgtool. I'll reinstall 3.1.1 and see if I can find it from pkgtool.

I mean, Krita has the AppImage approach, maybe I'll try and get AppImage to work on slackware and use that instead of compiling from source. The scary part is that, AppImage has no slackware logo on their website.

Sometimes I think to myself, why did I choose slackware. But it's comfy as fuck.
>>
>>59127611
Oh also, installing 3.1.1 back gives me this:
krita: error while loading shared libraries: libKF5Crash.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

in /usr/lib64,
ls | grep -e "libKF5" | less
gives

libKF5Plotting.so
libKF5Plotting.so.5
libKF5Plotting.so.5.30.0

libKF5KIOCore. pkgs.org has some for other distros but not for slackware hmm.

Is there a universal way to minimize a single window in Windows? I wound up just mapping #N::Send !{Space}n and then mapping the mouse button to Win+N, it seems pretty good, better than my mouse's preset that should be pushing that exact same key combination for some reason. Only issue is it won't minimize fullscreen games sometimes. Seems to work better than WinMinimize though.
