Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Gaming and possibly streaming so want the i7, budget can go anywhere up to 2k dollars
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LTb9XH
Last thread was almost ded so i ask is there anything wrong with the list? Im new to PC stuff and i really am not sure, also if theres anything cheaper that wont affect quality of the build, if not ill just pay the price. Thank you
>>
>>59084827
>Gaming and possibly streaming
So you don't want that i7. Four cores is not enough for gaming and streaming these days.
Swap it out for an i7-6800K and a cheap X99 motherboard.
Of buy a six-core $260 Ryzen 5 1600X and a $100 X370 motherboard

i5 and rx480 ftw if you don't want to wait for zen
>>
>>59084682
I'll be including some example Ryzen builds, but right now there's no way a $70 G4560 is getting replaced with a $300 R7

Eventually the CPU tiers will probably look like this:

>G4560 + 1050/460/1050Ti
>1100/1200X + 1050Ti/470/480/1060
>1400X + 470/480/1060/1070

>1600X for VM gaming build possibly, but the lack of iGP is annoying

>>59084745
Anyone on LGA1151 is fine, since they'll likely be able to get a cheap i7 in the near future. Anyway $150 isn't a big deal to a lot of people

>>59084827
If you're streaming you should probably get Ryzen. At least wait for a few benches

>>59084943
Drop the i3 to the G4560
>>
>>59085065
Why would you spend $70 on a dual-core when you can buy an overclockable four core for just $30 more and replace that chip with an 8-core later down the line? Where's the logic in this?
>>
>>59085065
>At least wait for a few benches
They're already out. Ryzen cores are almost on par with Kaby Lakes at the same IPC. In fact, it might have more IPC per core at the same clock if the single-threaded benchmarks are anything to go by. The only advantage Kaby Lake has is its higher potential clock, but Ryzen can overclock to about 4.6GHz on all cores with proper cooling.

Because you can't, rumored price of cheapest 4c / 4t is $120, almost twice as much

The LinusTechTips (I know, forgive me) from the AMD briefing mentioned that an i7 7700k was dropping frames while streaming Dota 2. So I'm thinking of moving to Ryzen or an i7 with more cores. Thoughts?

>>59085737

Actually no, those are only the best prices that I've found.
I'm asking for advice before pulling the trigger.
I'm thinking about switching the WD hard drive with a Hitachi Travelstar 7200 rpm.
Moreover, I'm not sure about the 1070: I'm aiming at 1440p but 60 fps are not a requirement.
The next step is choosing a good monitor.

>>
>>59086898
Get the 8GB, don't cuck yourself with 4 GB of VRAM.
>>
>>59086944
It's fine, but that won't be for a few months, so come back later. At that point you'll probably want the RX580

>>59086922
Depends on how badly you need a new CPU/platform

>>59086898
In my opinion. Really 6GB is most you'd want. Some games need more than 4GB (RotTR for instance) on Ultra, but you're going to have a hard time keeping playable framerates with a 480 tier gfx card. The Uber settings in Mirror's Edge Catalyst are a prime example of this. Unplayable unless you're using an 8GB 1070 or 1080.

So really you're looking at 4GB 470, 4GB 480, 6GB 1060 in terms of cost effectiveness.

Would you pay 175 bucks for an untested CPU from a recycled PC? It's pretty unlikely that the CPU was the reason the PC was recycled, and as long as it was in the socket it shouldn't have been harmed before someone who knows what he's doing took it out, right?
>>
>>59087062
It's shit, absolute shit. The only Pentium worth getting is the G4560 because it's hyperthreaded ( 2c / 4t). The Pentium you picked is 2c / 2t, which will cause horrible stuttering in many games, especially when paired with a 1060.

Get a G4560 + B250 + 2400 DDR4 and come back

Also you can easily get a $50 used 23-24" 1080p monitor. 21" is too small

>>59087078
Either option is fine from a performance standpoint. Ryzen will be the better option

>>59087106
Obviously a gamble, but likely it's fine.
>>
>>59086898
8GB'll last you the lifetime of the card (3-5 years)

Anything less and you'll be in danger of cucking yourself, especially with the 1060 and 480 both setting the bar for devs to aim for in terms of vram use.

And the 1080ti and Vega are virtually guaranteed to have more than 8GB of vram
>>
>>59087182
I have to disagree with this line of reasoning. Another example is For Honor, which uses about 2GB at max settings at 1080p. If super sampling is engaged, the game uses a little under 4GB, but framerates sit below 20FPS most of the time. Yeah, 8GB is only a few more dollars, but it's definitely unnecessary since the PS4 Pro only has 8GB total for system+VRAM combined
>>
>>59087282
If there wasn't any intent to massively increase vram usage, neither nvidia nor amd would be adding so much vram to their boards.

But they're going crazy with it, and they're doing that because high resolution textures and high resolution displays are coming down the pipe. People don't just want 4k game resolution. They want 4k textures, too. That shit eats up a lot of vram; 4GB is not enough.

I'd only consider 4GB's for short-term cards. Something you only intend to have for two years or less before upgrading. Two years from now, 8GB vram will be standard.
>>
>>59087326
Standard =/= necessary
We can't certainly predict the future, but the limits on RAM as defined by consoles are a good indicator. Anyway those powerful cards will be for 1440p and above, where the extra VRAM is useful

4GB will certainly not make a 470 or 480 useless for 1080p gaming within the next 5yrs, but maybe some eyecandy or performance boost (RE7 shadow cache) will be missing, who knows.
>>
>>59087418
The gaming standard is now 1440p
4k if you're rich

5 years from now it'll probably be something ridiculous like 8k
>>
How long do you think a 1070 will last for 1080p gaming and maybe 1440p?
>>
>>59087490
5 years

3 years in you'll want to upgrade, 5 years in you pretty much can't help but upgrade, as even a cheapo $100 card will be as good or better.

Maybe cut that time down a bit if vulkan/dx12 takes off.
>>
>>59087490
At 1080p, not much longer than the 1060/480. The 1070 is obviously only one tier above, and the next consoles will be significantly more powerful than the 1070, meaning that the 1060 and 1070 will be made obsolete at around the same time.

The 1070 is a 1440p card that will last for 3 - 5 years, depending on your standards
>>
>>59087475
>5 years from now it'll probably be something ridiculous like 8k

Yeah, 8k to 10k is where it's gonna max out. 8k at 27" is retina quality.
>>
I'm completely new to any type of PC building. Right now, I'm doing a lot of video editing on a Macbook Air, and since doing anything longer than 7 minutes in FCP X (other software doesn't run well) is basically impossible on that machine I'm looking to upgrade.

Guides for specs for video editing usually come down to "buy an iMac" or "interested in video editing? check out our gaming rig specs". Since I find iMacs to be too expensive for what they are and am not sure about those gaming rigs I'd like to ask you guys if you know what would be good specs for video editing or if you knew about any good guides. Should the specs be similar to those of a gaming rig?
>>
>>59087782
Depends on how much you have to spend, but any 8c / 16t Ryzen will be great for editing
>>
>>59087782
Yeah follow similar specs as gaming but prioritize higher core count vs. higher clock speed when it comes to the processor and consider PCIe SSDs for faster read/write speed.

Go intel i7 or wait for Ryzen 1800x benchmarks.
>>
>>59087809
>>59087859
The maximum I'd like to spend is around €2000 (which would still be cheaper than a mac). Could I get something good with a budget like that?

How much should I expect to spend on 2 monitors?
>>
>>59087892
Not sure about europe's availability and pricing but $2k usd could get you a very nice setup.

i7 7700k + RX480 comes to mind if you want something now. You should probably wait to see if Ryzen will be any decent if you can however.

For monitors 1080p with low framerates (60-75hz) are fairly cheap. 1440p/1080 ultrawide are middle of the road and 1440 ultrawide/high refresh rate/4k monitors are expensive. It really depends on what you want in a monitor(s).
>>
>>59087968
Thanks. Since I'll probably be getting two monitors, would it be recommendable to get one 4K monitor (main display) and one 1080p monitor (side menus etc)? Or does combining those two just lead to awkwardness?
>>
>>59088108
This comes down to personal preference really. That and desk/wall real estate.

Personally I like the clean desk look and went from 3x 1080p to 2x 1200p, and now have a single 1440. I've gotten used to the size adjustment. I think this year I may go with single 1440 ultrawide. I enjoy the look of a single monitor setup but you may have different tastes.
>>
>>59088108
Forgot to add that mismatching resolutions won't be too much of an issue unless you are OCD about font sizes being different on each screen.
>>
I have a RX 480 8GB and I want to play Overwatch at 144hz 1080p. Lowering settings is fine.

Should I go with an i5 7500 now, or wait until Ryzen 5? The i5 7500 is $200, and the cheapest Ryzen 5 is $175. If I go Intel, should I go with a Z mobo, or is B250 fine?
>>
>>59088241
If you want it now the i5 should do the trick. b series board is fine if you don't plan on upgrading to an unlocked CPU in the future.

You should probably wait to see what Ryzen has to offer, but that could be a while for R5.
>>
Gonna be getting an rx480 later in the year and a lower end ryzen cpu. What should I do in terms of cooling? Watercooling seems like overkill. I've only ever dealt with igpus/generally empty cases so my single fan was enough to keep things cool. So would two fans be enough? Also, is it recommended that I get a separate heatsink? Or should the stock one be enough? I don't need any fancy leds.
>>
>>59088476
If you don't plan on overclocking the stock fan is perfectly fine.Just make sure your case has two fans one intake and one exhaust and keep it clean.

If you do plan on overclocking decide how much you want to spend and do some research. Way too many options for cooling to give a be-all-end-all solution.

That will be plenty. Tip for your fan setup: Exhaust fans should be mounted at the rear or top of the case, intake at the front or bottom. Make sure all intake fans have a dust filter in front of them and you won't have to clean your case out as often.

No you aren't losing anything but consider the fact that your case is sized for a full ATX board and you are getting an ITX mobo. The whole point of ITX is usually to build a compact system. I would consider a full ATX sized board if you want that case. They make those with wifi and they will have better expandability.

You could but it looks like you have a full sized graphics card that likely won't fit in an ITX case. I believe Gigabyte makes an ITX 1060 so consider that.

Also if using an ATX PSU in an ITX case it will be a pain to get the cabling looking decent if the case even supports that size at all.

This is why I personally prefer ATX builds in general. Hardly any clearance/compatibility issues.

I am on somewhat of a budget and this seemed like a good place to shave a few hundred. I will buy a dedicated monitor in the future but will this be an acceptable stopgap?
>>
>>59092241
Wait for Ryzen 5 before buying a CPU. Ryzen 7 just came out which is basically AMD's version of the i7s.

Yes it is.

You should probably get a monitor used if you are on a budget. If your monitor is too big the pixels will spread and it won't look good at all. If you are really pinching pennies, settle for a 21.5" or so.

What games do you plan on playing? How much is longevity a concern for you?
>>
>>59092741
I mostly play a combination of strategy games, FPSs, and RPGs. I would usually like to upgrade every 3-4 years or so (possibly 5 if money is tight). I would prefer to have something that lasts thought (60 fps is preferable, but I can deal with ~30 fps) I've just been stuck with a shitty laptop for so long I want to play some modern games without running at ~10 fps.
>>
>>59092728
The only worry I have with that is that its more or less the same price as a 1060, which defeats the purpose of getting a 480.
>>
>>59092792
Like what games specifically? Some games run better on the 480 and others on the 1060
>>
>>59092528
Seems like you'll get better price to performance if you wait. If the benches and price turn out to be accurate. You have to decide how much up to 3 months of gaming is worth to you. I've just dove in with an i5, but I'm hoping to use my pc for work so I should make more than I spent extra in that time
>>
>>59092827
You expect me to know exactly what games I want to play for the next several years?
>>
>>59092806
>defeats the purpose of getting a 480
Nah, the 480 is only slightly cheaper but has better performance in some games, much better DX12 performance, and crossfire capability. The 480 is more future-proof because more VRAM, crossfire capability and DX12 performance.
>>
>>59092865

I don't play a lot of competitive games besides stuff like Battlerite and Insurgency. Basically stuff I can play with my friends.

Your build looks good.
You will want a CPU cooler even if you go Ryzen. I recommend the Cryorig H7 for a quiet fan, high performance, and great value (also dope looks in a windowed case).
Consider 144hz if you play FPS games competitively. You can get one for around $200. You should be able to run Overwatch, CSGO, TF2, Rocket League, and Dota 2 at 144hz with good settings.
>>
>>59092955
>I recommend the Cryorig H7 for a quiet fan
Thank you, will add.
>Consider 144hz if you play FPS games competitively.
I don't really play games competitively so I don't think I need it. I might upgrade down the line but for now I'm fine with 60hz.
>>
>>59092928
You'll get about 10% more frames out of Overwatch, but otherwise the performance is about the same on all of those games.

If you want a performance bump in Overwatch, go 1060. If you want more longevity from your GPU, go 480.

Definitely go for the higher VRAM variants of either card. VRAM usage seems to just get exponentially higher in recent years. In late 2013, 4GB VRAM sounded like overkill, but now that is the minimum you want. It is worth the price premium.
>>
>>59093034
I don't play Overwatch that much and I like to get the most cost-efficent thing anyways so I think I'll just go AMD on this one. With Ryzen 5 right around the corner too, I might just get their CPU and mobo as well to go along with it. I'll have to wait and see though.

From what I've heard, all the RAM is getting bought up by phone makers, and production hasn't ramped up enough to supply it.

And now it's getting bumped up again to price gouge all the people doing new ryzen builds. In fact, there's been about a 10% markup across the board for every part category. It'll probably stay that way for the next 1-2 months, maybe 3-6 months as they try to gouge on the R5 release as well.

If you wanted to build a budget computer, now's definitely not the time to do it. Pretty much a $200-$400 gouge on a system build going on for the next half a year.

This is a simple question in sure you guys get dozens of times a day.

I want to own a gaming computer. But I don't know much about computers.

Money isn't a problem, as I have very little responsibilities beyond rent and food. But I don't want to spend more than 4k-5k on it.

I intend on playing good looking games, such a star citizen, on great graphics and lots of add-ons/mods, so it needs to be beefy. Will this have any negative effects on less resource intensive games, such as the source engine?

My questions:

>should I build one or should I buy one?
I'm good with my hands and I hear it's as simple as putting any other machine together.

>what OS is best for gaming?
I know absolutely nothing about programming, so I may be forced to use Windows.

>what's a good place to buy a gaming computer/parts?
I live in the US and am okay with ordering online.

I don't much care for aesthetics, but I don't want it to look unpleasant.

Thank you for taking the time to read. I can repay your time and help with friendship and/or comradory through gaming adventures.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Dnj6Ps - Building my first new PC here soon. Put together this. Notes below.

>CPU, GPU
Going with the i7-7700k because I want high end CPU performance, hyperthreading, and no stock cooler. Pairing it up with the RX 480 for top tier performance. I'm looking to get 120 FPS consistently at highest settings on any game I play, but I will probably have to settle for 60 since I'm not initially going dual GPUs.

>Motherboard
I want to do the Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero Alpha to pair with the Asus ROG RX 480, however I will have to just buy it at a later point and sell the z170-a.

>RAM
I want to go a little cheaper, but I'd like 16GB total.

>Storage
Will buy an external 1TB later for storage of things I never actively need. So the SSD + 1TB WD will be good. As is I only really use 300 GB of my current 1TB HDD.

>Power Supply
Don't know who makes good power supplies.

>OS
Will be buying a pro key for much cheaper.

>Optical Drive, Sound Card, Wireless Adapter
Just an in-case kind of thing. The sound is because I'd like one. The wireless adapter is in-case I ever get into a situation where I can't use my Ethernet cable.

>Monitor
I definitely want to go cheaper on the monitor. I need 1920x1080 60-120HZ. If possible with Asus.

I should mention, a game I am looking to play at highest settings is Forza Horizon 3 and that game is fairly demanding.

I'll wait and see what the benchmarks are for Ryzen in comparison to Intel.

480 is a 60fps card for 1080p. its a good budget/performance card.
if you want consistent 120 fps at 1080p youre gonna need a gtx1080.

then again maybe you only plan on playing on medium.
then again maybe you dont plan on playing graphically intensive AAA games. in which case 480 will be fine

>>
>>59103831
Well the thing is, I don't want to run Nvidia for my GPU. So in any event, this means I'll have to run dual 480 for 120 FPS then.

>>59103836

Buying Intel right now is retarded, especially given how well Ryzen performed in benchmarks at the launch event. Some numbers aren't going to change just because reviewers get their hands on them.
But Intel will be forced to respond in some way, whether through price drops or a new lineup sooner than otherwise scheduled. If they drop their prices enough, maybe their current lineup will be worthwhile again.

It's not about being easily sold on something. I'm not saying you should buy Ryzen RIGHT NOW, I'm saying that buying Intel is retarded until 1) Intel responds to AMD by improving their current pricing or releasing new SKUs, or 2) reviewers get samples to play with properly and prove the launch event either right or wrong in the coming weeks/days.
