because won't be using both monitors 100% of the time, so the main monitor should be facing straight to you

B because I have a laptop plugged into a display, which I'm definitely going to favor over the little ass one.

>>59003243
but windows has multiple work spaces too

the point is you can have a full screen program open on one and have something else to look at/watch at the same time. like if you're using a CAD or modelling program on one screen, you need the full screen to see everything, but you might want reference material/texture libraries/something to watch in the background on a secondary monitor. You can do that by switching back and forth between work spaces but it's a lot easier to just have both visible simultaneously, especially if you're copying something from one screen to another (like drawing from reference or something).
>>
>>59003687
That's not a six, you know that right?
>>
>>59003092

-ViewSonic vx2268wm (22''/16:10/1680x1050/120HZ/TN/Heavy as a faggot)
-LG 25um55 (25"/21:9/2560x1080/IPS/Pretty light)

I use this setup. Think I could do this with one of those VESA desk mounts? I'm thinking of buying that shit. I know the former monitor is shite, but I paid 300€ ages ago for it and I'm not throwing it out the window, plus I can't sell it because it looks like trash on the outside.

The problem with vertical monitors is that you need to buy expensive monitors to do it with, otherwise the viewing angle issues make it unpleasant. I could not care less about the color quality on my shitposting monitor, so TN would otherwise be fine.

What if you need to see something on monitor b to input on monitor a? Makes it easier to remember by not having to press a hotkey and you can just type on monitor a while looking at said data from monitor b.

When will this consumerist shit die? The best developers in the world operate with a single screen. I've been a professional Obj-C and Swift dev on an 11" MBA for 8 years. If you need more "screen real-estate," you're doing something wrong and you should re-evaluate your workflow.

sometimes you need to be viewing many windows at about the same time repeatedly. those windows have their own hot keys that would require you to move your fingers on the keyboard to a new position each time you wanted to switch workspaces.

sometimes you don't want to have your hand on the keyboard at all times.

You should have a dual monitor setup with one vertical because
>more vertical space for your IDE
>better length for irc/4chan/discord
>writing/reading long documents, PDFs for example
>best of both worlds, and better productivity capabilities
>moving your mouse across the length of two 16:9 monitors is obnoxious

5x4 + 16x9 mustard race
>>
>>59003092
A is for assholes who want form over function. It looks nicer than B, but if you sit down and actually use a setup like A you will be constantly turning your head towards what you're focusing on. It's awful.
B is for people who want to use a dual monitor setup effectively and comfortably.
>>
>>59017018
>1280x1024
Might have been mustard race if you got a larger workspace, but you don't. The only 5:4 resolution that ever existed is tiny and shitty.
Even a 22" 1680x1050 monitor offers more space to work with.
