Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

How do I do it "properly"?

I've used Display Driver Uninstaller, then installed from the latest AMD Rx400 driver on AMD's website. Also tried the driver that came on the disk with the card and had the same problem.

did you reboot after using DDU before installing the new one?

Anyone else buy parts off of Craig's List for mad cheap and puts them together to sell for profit?

It's pretty fun and the profits are usually good if you find good deals.

it's the new standard for m.2 SSD if you want to have fast bootable drive.
just get two regular SATA SSD in ROID0 and you have similar performance as the shitty m.2 but with twice the storage space.

So I have this on the way.

The last time I built/worked on or had a new PC was 2011ish, all my parts and tech is from about 2011.

All that is left is a GPU.

So I'm issuing a challenge to the pajeets in this thread worth the value of your card and I will even confirm your post caused me to buy it if you can convince me to buy.

Nvidia has poor business practices and Gsync costs a fortune or do I go with the supposedly more reliable and kinder AMD but at weaker hardware?

for real though this is my first build in a long time and I'm pooping myself

willing to pay up to 600 for a graphics card.

>>
How is the 1050?
My GPU died and i need a new one, but most of the newer more graphic heavy games just don't interest me and i don't want to invest too much for a new video card that i don't use that much.
>>
>>58916061
>Consider a G4560 instead of i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.

Is the G4560 still worth getting over the i3 if I'm going to do some hobbyist work in Lightroom/Photoshop/Premiere? And yes, I know that I should get at least a quad core for content creation but I'm piss poor at the moment and I'm only going to be using it as a secondary PC

honestly I'm having a tough time understanding what the fuck you're trying to say but go with a 1080. there are some offers at or under $600, or if you want, wait for vega.

Get 1050 Ti or 1060 (3gb or 6gb)

>i share your dislike for Nvidia business practices
It rattles me. I know that shit's just like pissing in the ocean but I like to keep my system light and controlled and seeing the direction of the geforce experience and gsync is really throwing me off. I was interested in the 1080 before that, because whatever card I buy will be my card until it's completely, utterly obsolete in 5+ years.

I keep reading that SSDs are prone to failure after a year or two if you use it for the OS so I got a cheap 1TB traditional as backup. Not sure what I'm doing though desu
>>
>>58916339
what about the 1050ti like >>58916312 suggested? it's similar to the 470 performance
>>
>>58916357
Oh thanks. When i wrote 1050 i meant all 1050 cards. So the 1050 ti is an okayish video card?
>>
New build problem:

New gtx 1080 is not being recognized in the device manager, nor is is being recognized in BIOS for my MSI Z270 SLI.

I was talking about it in the previous thread, and anons suggested my iGPU was just picking up first. This however is not the case I've found after doing some digging after setting my OS up.

The card is receiving power.

What the hell could it be?

The only thing I can think of is that it's not seated properly, but I don't see how it can be pushed in anymore. It looks seated.
>>
>>58916353
>I keep reading that SSDs are prone to failure after a year or two if you use it for the OS
Only if you dont move your page, swap and download folders onto a different drive, but even without a second drive for that it will take much longer than 1-2 years of use. If you have a big SSD you can even change some settings and make the reserved bits count higher and it will last even longer.

>>58916388
it's quite a bit better than regular 1050, similar performance to the RX470, and depending on your country's what is cheaper (470 or 1050ti)
>>
What's a good mini itx case still big enough to feature a strong gpu?

but it also depends on the software you use if it's optimized to use more cores or if it likes better IPC+higher clock.

Old guy here self studying technology to make a career out of it.

Im self studying for the comptia and i want to build a computer just to practice with stuff. Not a gaming one literally just a desktop generic one.

Can i do this? How expensive? I can spend up to 1k but since its just for info and generic stuff i want it to be cheap.

by the way, i think im the guy you referred to earlier as the "anon suggested the onboard picked it up first" which is not what i said or meant.

take out the GPU and make sure your onboard video works along with your monitor.

Only the cheap SSD's that don't have onboard DRAM. Good SSD's use this RAM to store the cache map, the cheap cards without load it into NVRAM (storage) and it leads to a consistent trickle of writes. As for the OS and page file eating it up, not really. The decent solid state drives should last for a decade as a simple OS drive, which is why Samsung warranties the pros for 10 years.

yes, the bronze/gold/silver/whatveer (80+ rating) determines the efficiency. but a gold rated one also comes with the added bonus of higher quality parts which makes it more reliable and less likely to fry your other hardware if something goes wrong.

So I need an on-the-go computer/tablet for notes and drawing, I'm not a fan of stand alone graphics tablets, and carrying one device is so much easier when sketching and note taking on the go.
I'm using an i5 x220 tablet and it's decent, but it's heavy as fuck as a tablet, gets really hot, 2.5 hour battery life, chugs in basic Photoshop and clip studio tasks, and the motherboard has had some issues and I'm ready to retire the thing.
With a budget of around $450-$500 (trying to come as low under that as possible), I'm trying to find something with a 1080p or better display, wacom digitizer (n-trig digitizers, like on the surface pro 3 and dell tablets, have a fair number of issues like odd pressure, non-smooth wobbly lines, etc), and is able to run Photoshop CC nicely.
Right now I'm looking at the Surface Pro 2 or a thinkpad helix, they're reasonably priced and use wacom digitizers, but the size and lack of repairability of the SP2 and the performance of the helix concern me.
>Anyone know of any better devices with built-in digitizers that meet these criteria without being TOO cheap?
The cube i7 is also out since it's a non-serviceable tablet with almost no company support, so if something happens, there's not a lot that can be done.

anyways, I went against the grain and bought a fan controller. With a few 120mm's and a couple 140mm's, the ability to turn some on and others off has made this computer super quiet.

>>58917990
I also have a 6 cell, if I have it on power saver, i get 3.5-4 hours, but at that point, it's so sluggish, even very light drawing applications are a pain to use. But more of that it gets to around 90c when Photoshop editing (this is after new thermal paste application), the screen's resolution is terrible for a tablet for drawing and with UI scaling in some applications expecting to use a higher resolution, only 2 point touch that's very sketchy in some application, and, with mine, there's a pressure spot behind the display and the LAN port stopped working all together.
I'm done with repairing and replacing things on this thing, so I just want to get something new.

Well, the SP2 can be purchased for around $250 on ebay as well as other older devices, I'm not opposed to buying used or refurbished if need be.

It's about binning.
Two different GPUs perform identically under standard conditions, but don't reach the same stable clocks when overclocking. So companies sort GPUs by their overclocking potential and sell the better ones for premium. Also they usually have good custom cooling solution, aiding in overclocking. They are sold with a higher clock, which the company guarantees will be stable, though you can overclock more yourself.

>>58919298
A 120mm AIO is about the same in performance as a 140mm dual-fan heatsink, but it is noisier due to pump noise at lower temperatures.
AIOs only makes sense if you're using a case with limited or restricted airflow and need to dump the hot air out of your case rather than have it circulate inside.
A 7700K works fine with a decent air cooler. You're not going to see any dramatic difference in performance by upgrading to a 120mm AIO. 240mm on the other hand may net some benefits (higher thermal headroom), but it's not worth the cost and if you need to dump out that much heat, there is a very good chance that you're pushing your CPU to unsafe limits.

Huh. Past Seagate Barracudas were relatively silent, but they all make this high-pitched clicking noise when they booted up. That noise is the sound of the actuator with the read/write heads moving across the platter. They also park their heads after 90 seconds on non-uses, so you hear that click sound again if you don't do anything with the drive.

I built a new PC with an an Intel i5 7600K (Kaby Lake) alongside a Cooler Master Hyper Evo 512 cooler. I installed the CPU right, since......I'm able to use my computer. I installed the cooler properly, even though it was a pain in the ass. It's mounted tight.

Despite this, my CPU fan sporadically turns on and is loud. I look at Speccy to see my temps, and it fluctuates from 25 degrees (C) to 55. When I view task manager to see what's up, it'll show something like Steam (idle) or iTunes having 60-80% CPU usage, when I'm not doing much.

I should add that this is the first CPU I've had with an aftermarket cooler. Am I just not used to them being loud as hell?

He and his party will do this m8. If he wins we'll see four years of a Die Linke (far-left), Die Grüne (far-left hippies) and SPD.
Die Linke and Die Grüne are known to be anti-german, some of them participated at "bomber harris do it again" and similar events, lefties also finance and support the antifa.
I doubt i need to tell you that this is not good as we can currently see with the (((peaceful protests))) in the US.

>>
>>58922618
nope, they dont make those any more. you'll have to ghetto-mod the fuck out of it. you could make it a bit easier if you got a detachable motherboard tray, cut out the old plate and attach the separate one.
>>
>>58922657
I could just butcher the entire rear of the thing to fit a matx or mitx mobo
It would just be easier to have an inverted mobo
>>
>>58922618
>>58922657
btw are you sure just turning a regular board around works, maybe with some tweaking of the mounting?
>>
>>58922690
why not just buy a cheap htpc or newer (flat branded) case with atx mounting?
>>
>>58922718
i find more fun in building around oldschool hardware or things that are more a challenge than just sticking parts together
my first build was converting an IBM thinkcentre from the lga 775 p4 era into a modern machine with an i5 4460s, 32gb of ram, and an r9 280x
even made a custom 92mm water cooler
>>58922703
with the board thats in there the pci slots are on the left side, the i/o on the right
so if i stuck a gpu in it with the riser it would be vents facing down
so if i stuck a regular mitx or matx mobo inside it id have a long soft pci riser going all the way across the mobo and then turning back on itself to connect to the gpu
>>
>>58922844
nigger-rig it inside the case and just take a vga cable from there out the closest hole

It not long enough to pass it behind the case
>>
>>58922903
if its on the top of the mobo, go under the mobo
if its on the side you should really have room to go around the gpu at least

if all else fails, buy a 24 pin extension cable
>>
anyone link me to the forum where the guy tried to delid a chip, ripped transistors off then soldered em back on
>>
>>58922874
there are no inverted mobos any more.

just cut out the backplate/IO shit on the case and put in the mobo and put in some DIY support bracket for the GPU

>>
>>58922961

can you take pic to show where you're trying to route it behind the mobo but ending up short?

>>58922992
>Because I heard of exploding molex to sata.

so I have an old prebuilt HP computer with an added GTX 560, 120SSD, and 8GB ram with the original 6gb in a drawer, it's been sitting around forever so i'm trying to decide what to do with it, and my mom's old laptop just died so i need your opinions

>Option A: wipe the 1TB drive it came with, take out my GTX 560 and put the 6gb ram back in, build myself a little HTPC for some streaming / basic couch gaming, give my mom the old PC.
