Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons by vendor and compatibility filter.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 6500/7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build.
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo.
>Consider a H110/B150 (old chipset needs UEFI update BEFORE installing CPU) or B250 mobo for any Pentium or i3 build.
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build.
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050Ti, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB

definitely go for the higher refresh rate one, the resolution isn't as drastic of a difference as the refresh rate is

Wrong, Intel just released kaby IGPU drivers for Win7.
>>

z270 are for overclocking, go with something cheaper and 500w/550w will be ample for your build, go with a supernova 550w g2 or g3
>>
>>58904278
Also you could find a motherboard with wifi already integrated into it.
>>
I have an fx-8320e and was thinking of getting a gtx 1080 soon, but was unsure of the PSU requirements. Do I need to get a 750w PSU or can i drop it down to a 700w PSU? I cant decide between The EVGA 700w B1 or EVGA 750W B1 Supernova.
>>
>>58904432
Punch in all the hardware in pcpartpicker it will calculate the wattage, I doubt you'll need 750w for a 1080 unless your doing SLI
>>
>>58904486
I punched it into the coolermaster psu calculator and it recommended me a coolermaster 550w psu 80+ Bronze. Should I just get a 600w 80+ instead. Not doing OC or SLI, but i might switch to intel I7 cpus later as well.

You don't. Water cooling is completely optional and only "needed" if you want some ridiculous OC.
Stick to good air cooling, which is also cheaper, and you're good.
>>
>>58904673
What exactly is wrong with it? The case is ATX because I got it at a very good discount, the CPU is higher end because I do more CPU intensive tasks like emulating, or rendering videos, more than GPU intensive tasks.
>>
>>58904722
Nothing, considering the fact that you didnt state what you were planning using it for OR your budget
>>
>>58904589
Why a babby mobo for a normal tower?
>>
>>58904589
Looks fine if thats what you want, you could get higher frequency ram, but I doubt you'll see the difference. I'd recommended a better psu, something gold certified and fully modular.

I suppose waiting for Ryzen won't matter for me, right?

>>

Don't be ridiculous, Intel don't drop prices. They don't give any fucks.

Dude, I don't even have to search up that mobo to know it doesn't run ram at 3000mhz, get 2x8gb @ 2400mhz for dual channel, you'll get better performance then one stick of 16gb. Also the mobo will require an update to use kaby, get a 200 series for hassle free.

I know about the BIOS update, if it doesn't come updated a friend is willing to do it for me free of charge so it's fine.

I chose 3000Mhz memory because I want to re-use it in an eventual future build when I have more money, especially after hearing everyone say RAM prices will go up in the future. Is it really a bad choice?
It's also because of "future-proofing" that I chose 1 stick instead of 2.

Hey /g/ time to make yourself useful.

I am building a shitbox dual Opteron workstation for fun and profit. The board I am using requires ATX 24 pin power, EPS 12V and P4 power connectors.

I have one PSU with 24pin + P4 and one with 24pin + EPS 12V. I also have 2xmolex->eps12v cable.

However...

The board does not boot with 24pin + P4 + molex adaptor, but does with 24pin + EPS but no P4 plugged in. I suspect that the molex adaptor simply does not output 12V required for the board to boot on PWR signal.

Do you think that it is safe to use the board with P4 unplugged? Or maybe there is some witchery needed to force the board to boot with the molex adaptor?

Depends on where you live. If you're a burger then the 480 is cheaper. They're pretty much identical performance-wise.

>>
>>58904228
In 1080p the 480 will be great with 144hz
1070 would be a little overkill but you could 100% max out any game
Expect to lose some stuff like ultra high aa or post fx effects
If those are important to you, then do the 1070
In 1080p you can get away with the 4gb 480 to save a few bucks

Or stick to 550w and use the bit of saved cash to get a more effecient rating like 80+ gold
Less heat, longer psu lifespan
>>

>>
>>58906881
No pretty sure that's all hardware based
>>
>>58904589
Get a smaller case and a better psu
You got tiny parts (minus the 212), only fitting to put it in a small case

Mini itx if you dont mind a compact ez bake oven, micro atx for added airflow and drive space
Make sure to take cooler height into account
>>
>>58904649
High oc's and hot chips
Or if you like the looks

An fx 9590 and multi card 390x system absolutely requires water cooling

A modern intel chip with a reasonable oc and lower wattage gpus dont really need it
Though an AIO doesnt hurt on the cpu for overclocking
But a nice air cooler will also give great performance
>>
>>58906779
im not an expert but vega will cost like 350, so i guess no.
>>
>>58906865
Way more expensive than other models with the exact see performance. Slightly better cooling doesn't matter when they're all hard limited to 2150mhz.
>>
>>58906779
RX 480 8GB can be had now for $180. You might do well just to get one right now then maybe upgrade later.
>>
>>58906368
Whatever the molex is on may not be able to push enough power
Running one cpu with limited power may be an issue if you ever max it out
I suggest getting a psu with the right connectors, molex adapaters can be dangerous, although rare, they can fail or cause component damag
>>
>>58906942
So what model do you recommend? No MSI please

There really is a canadian premium for some weird reason but unless you can find a friend in the US or a US PO box you can drive to by yourself, there's not much to do about it. Just driving to the border would basically negate the savings from using a PO box if you dont use it often.

Also do your self a BIG favor and buy a real mouse and keyboard when you get it. It's worse than chink tier. The mouse is awkward to use and shaped funny.

For the most part it should be good for a couple of years.

In fact you probably won't need to upgrade anything for a while besides the video card. You might also want to add more Ram in a year or two and since there are only 2 Ram slots you would have to buy two 8GB ram sticks.

But again 8 is good for now.

650w and 550w PSUs come in many different brands, good deals and have many reviews, don't go for a no name chink brand just so you can "match" your PSU and have just barely enough. Get the good deal from the good brand, even if it's overkill
>>
>>58908080
pretty much
any 80+ psu of around 450-500w will fit your needs just fine
make sure its a reputable brand that has good reviews, corsairs cxm line is good for low wattage stuff, evga's low tier stuff is kinda meh, but not bad by any means
seasonic is worth the extra price premium compared to other low wattage options simply due to their quality and fantastic warranty if shit hits the fan

it doesnt hurt to get a 600w psu or something if you intend to do upgrades in the future, like crossfire or overclocking

generally 500w and lower is considered low wattage, its not a power hungry system and doesnt need anything higher wattage
750w and higher is generally for sli/crosfire or heavy overclocking

i personally dislike evga's budget psu lineup, they have alot of dead on arrival reviews, and for the cost you can drop 10$ more and get a decent corsair or seasonic unit

How bad is it if you can't get your modular psu cables to lock all the way into the psu? I have a Corsair rm750x and everything apart from the piece of shit 24 pin went in without trouble, but boy is that one a pain in the ass.
I managed to get the motherboard side in after I took it out of the case and applied a great deal of force on it, but now it turns out that the other end doesn't want to pay ball either.
I've managed to push the split psu ends like 99% in, but they're refusing to go in any further and my fingers hurt like hell from the sharp edges.

Since I haven't seen any other general computer buying threads, I figured this is the closest thing.

So I need an on-the-go computer/tablet for notes and drawing, I'm not a fan of stand alone graphics tablets, and carrying one device is so much easier when sketching and note taking on the go.
I'm using an i5 x220 tablet and it's decent, but it's heavy as fuck as a tablet, gets really hot, 2.5 hour battery life, chugs in basic Photoshop and clip studio tasks, and the motherboard has had some issues and I'm ready to retire the thing.
With a budget of around $450-$500 (trying to come as low under that as possible), I'm trying to find something with a 1080p or better display, wacom digitizer (n-trig digitizers, like on the surface pro 3 and dell tablets, have a fair number of issues), and is able to run Photoshop CC nicely.
Right now I'm looking at the Surface Pro 2 or a thinkpad helix, they're reasonably priced and use wacom digitizers, but the size and lack of repairability of the SP2 and the performance of the helix concern me.
>Anyone know of any better devices with built-in digitizers that meet these criteria without being TOO cheap?
The cube i7 is also out since it's a non-serviceable tablet with almost no company support, so if something happens, there's not a lot that can be done.
>>
>>58909209
a 6600k or 7600k is more cost efficient for gaming, since gaming is most single/dual core dependent

Not that guy, but the G4560 performs a little better in single thread tasks and a little worse in multi-threaded, considering most games utilize more than one thread these days I'd say it's not worth it and you should spend it on a better GPU.

I'd go with the RX470 over the 1060 3GB, it's the highest you can go without without GPU bottlenecking on the G4560, so yours should be around the same.

so regarding enterprise ltsb, will it be good for vidya and not intrusive as the other editions?
>>
>>58912870
It's indeed shitty. I was expecting more desu.
For reference I own a ASUS 1070 Turbo, 8GB.
1080p resolution with a 60Hz monitnor.

I haven't tried anything else to be honest, that's the only game that I own (I think?) that is "capable" of DX12. I know there's the GoW and Forza in DX12 on the Winshill store but meh. I won't shill any money towards these games to test it out.

As far as I know, DX12 is still a meme.
Haven't fell for it yet, but I fell for the i6700k.

Yeah.

My GPU is running (lighting up and fans spinning). HSF is running. MoBo isn't giving me any error LED's. GPU has steady green LED indicating power.

Whatever I find wrong is going to be a massively stupid oversight. I can feel it.

More W does not equal better. Skylake / Kaby Lake + 1070 is fine with 550W, if you have shitload of other stuff to connect, etc. 650W is everything you'll ever need.

reseat your GPU a couple times and triple check the power cable.
take out the GPU and plug your monitor into the onboard video to make sure it's not mobo problem.
ask a friend if you can try their GPU to make sure it's not a PCI-E slot problem.

what GPU?
what mobo?
what PSU?

Do you do laptop suggestions?
100 > 440$ / ~£350 price range.

I'm currently looking for an all-rounder for my dad, so no strenuous use. He wants to write memoirs, work some web pages and watch movies on it. So I'll assume battery life isn't that important, he's only ever used windows and apple devices, and would prefer a full keypad.

I've been looking at a couple of chromebooks, but not sure how compatible they'd be for him and for a load of windows based applications (Word for one), since I've never owned or been around one I haven't a clue. Ideally a quad core too, I've got one myself and couldn't live with a slower laptop.

Lads I think I've fucked it

I got a new graphics card for my build at christmas (Rx 460) and it was going pretty good but then it started to fuck up.

At first it was with Firefox, where the graphics driver would crsh and recover, r sometimes just freeze on a white screen unti I rebooted. I could ignore this for a while since it was rare.

Recently though it just flat out blue screens due to Firefx, and since yesterday the thing will either not get past he "Starting Windows" screen or if it does it crashes not long after.

Blue screen code is 116 and it talks about atikmpag.sys fucking up.

Anyone know what to do? I've tried various drivers, updating Windows, updating BIOS, reseating the graphics card and checking my hard drive. What else can I do?
