Nearly two-thirds (62 percent) of firearm deaths in the U.S. are suicides.

Of the 169,395 firearm deaths in the US from 2011 to 2015 (the most recent five years of data available), 105,183 (or 62 percent) were suicides. To calculate this total, Everytown relies on CDC data regarding fatal injury by intent.

Now that I have 2 keyboards, I realize that I don't even type enough to warrant all the obsessing I've been doing. The only extended periods where it really matters are during gaming sessions or software hotkeys, and I don't think that any sort of heavy weight or tactility is really necessary in these situations. I could foresee situations down the line at a job where I'd be doing many data entries, but that's mostly just numbers.

It's not like I'm going to be a stenographer or writer, so maybe none of this was really necessary after all. Gateron red or some other sort of light linear and call it a day.

I know it's a challenge. Doesn't have to be cherry MX browns. As long as it's too "clicky". This is for a friend.
>>
>>58864687
No it's not a challenge. Thousands of cheap chinese boards that cost less with or without LEDs. You can turn those off anyways.

So I just got a KBP V60, it came with a sticky switch, at first I used some isopropyl to "clean" it, it came good, but after a while, the switch became "Sticky" again.

I managed to lube it and it now is working as expected, I figure it is just a dodge switch(clearances fucked or something), but im ok to keep it lubed.

My question is, could I replace this switch ? is it possible to do that on a KBP V60 without desoldering etc ??

also, it is a MX brown switch, is my reasoning that the switch is most likely "tight" reasonable ? any pro tips ?

and last one, where can I get some epic DSA keycaps for this particular board ?

any others I should be looking at ?

Any MX-stem switch where your fingers can "rebound" back off the key easily for typing while still being easy to hold/actuate for gaming? Obviously MX browns would be under this category but I heard they're shit. Are gaterons any better on the tactility end or are they about the same?

>>
>>58866655
Political system and economical system are two separate things. Whether we call China's political system communism or not is irrelevant, what's important is: they have proven capitalism doesn't need democracy to work. In fact, it works even more efficiently and dynamically under authoritarian political system, which means humanity is fucked in the long run.
>>
>>58866655
Communism is a classless, stateless society where the means of production are commonly owned.

A state owning businesses, running the media and presence of one political party are all features of fascism and capitalist oligarchy, see: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy or modern-day Russia, and to a small extent the United States.

I have a V60 albeit with Matias switches. The switches are plate-mounted, meaning you'll need to de-solder it from the PCB to remove it. Don't be put off by that idea though, it's not difficult just take your time.

As far as I know, DSA is a profile by Signature Plastics (sold through their Pimp My Keyboard brand) so they are your only real bet for keysets. Keep an eye out for groupbuys, or you can buy regular dye-sub sets freely from PMK, but with limited colour / legend options. You should be able to reproduce your image easily though.

The mechanical keyboard I'm looking to buy comes with ABS keycaps with transparent letters (backlit keyboard). I'm worried about the keycaps going bad because I guess ABS is cheap plastic. Should I worry about that? And how hard would it be to find a replacement keycap set (when they do go bad), and how much would it cost?

Thanks!

ABS just gets shinny and develops a yucky texture over time. If the keycaps are double shot then the legends will never fade off. It will last at least a couple months before the oils in your skin begin to eat away at the plastic. If you don't mind the shine then there is no need to buy replacement keycaps and if you can touch type then who cares they'll last you pretty much forever. If you want you can get dye-sub PBT keycaps which are much more resistant to shine and will never fade away since the legends are burned into the keycap becoming a permanent part of it. PBT keycaps can go from anywhere between 30-90 bucks depending on if they are laser etched, double shot, or dye-sublimated. ABS can also anywhere from some cheap $10 pad printed set, to a GMK set which would cost $100

that's not true. You can get keycaps anywhere. Aliexpress has tons of options, and massdrop has some to. If you want more premium keycaps you can wait for a group buy, the problem with that is if you miss the original run you'll have to wait years if you're lucky for it to drop again.
Generally look for keycaps made by NPKC, Gateron, EnjoyPBT, and Ducky.
>>
I'lll get a 60% Keyboard and a separate numpad in case I need to use it.

The problem now is, what numpad does have the numbers and direction keys (and print, block, home, etc) keys?

If I can't find a good one I guess I'll go with regular numpad and ten key less keyboard, but I won't use the numpad as much as if it had the other keys.

I used a JIS for 2 years and I prefer my ANSI.
Although I like the bigger enter of the JIS, I need the 2u backspace of the ANSI one.
I'm using a blank HHKB because why not and it's true that the JIS has some mismatched legends, but the main reason I went to the ANSI one was the small backspace of the JIS.

I have used JIS for close to 7 years. I find using shift 2 for and " shift 7 for ' easier, and I also have a use for Japanese.

Does anyone know how to get cherry stabilizers rattle less. I've had some success just stuffing some tissue under both sides of the spacebar stabilizer wire which stops the wire from moving up and down causing some rattling, and restricts it to just rotating which is all it should do in the first place. It works well enough and removes most of the rattle, but it's impossible to get under the other stabilized keys when the plate and other switches are in the way. The part where the wire latches into the stem also seems to rattle a little. Would aftermarket stabilizers be better and where should I get them from? Or otherwise how should I modify the stabilizers.
>>
>>58880893
Try lubing stab's wire with thicker grease before buying aftermarket stabs, it might help. Though I have no idea how that would affect the feel of the key.

Got my first mechanical keyboard lads and I like it. Masterkeys pro L with browns (€120). First thing I noticed is how heavy this thing is. Played with the RGB leds for 10 minutes after I got bored of them and turned them off. The feel is nice but I expected more tactile feedback, I feel like I have a hard time not bottoming out the keys, maybe the rings will help. Loudness is ok and I'm happy I didn't go with blue after hearing this. Maybe I'll try out clears in the future.
>>
>>58882072
I think ukkeycaps has it listed, other than that you can get it on taobao.

I was wondering if i could replace some of the keys or not? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>58883475
The original group buy cost $75 for the whole keyboard and that already is a good deal. $90 is a very reasonable price as there aren't that many keyboards with back lighting and thicc PBT keycaps. If you don't like the colors you can buy a different set from GMK or EnjoyPBT

On a related note, how were high-end keyboards in the 00s before mechanical were popularized?
>>
>>58885477
Mechanical was always popular, its just that for the consumer who wants to spend more then 10 bucks for a keyboard. Back in the early 80 a model F would cost you $900 adjusting for inflation. Even BTC capacitive rubber domes would cost you 80-140 bucks in the mid 2000s. Most mechanicals in that were used back then were for industrial and medical purposes with rubber domes for the consumer. Compared to today those keyboards had pretty good build quality with dye-sub PBT and some of the best doubleshot ABS ever made.

Hi anon, in one of the few cases where it's actually true, Alibaba/Banggood/Gearbest reviews actually are vendor-paid shills (communists). I hope you are not factoring those in, but the first search result is a scathing review by a Reddit snob.

The difficulty of repair/return (and there are a LOT of low reviews about this) is what sours me.

It's hard to be critical at that price tho.

Weren't doubleshot, but dyesub pbt is better than aids by somalians
>>
>>58885804
Thick, double shot ABS pal! Legends never wear off and shine won't kick in unless you're soaking them in finger oils 24/7 for 5 years.
>>
>>58885863
No thanks I'll stick with my thicc PBT keycaps which are much more resistant to shine then ABS, and the legends are dye-sublimated meaning that they are burned into the keycap so they become a permenant part of it. This makes it so you cant feel the legends coupled with the softer touch of PBT they feel much better then the harsh and jaggy ABS keycaps. Plus they don't yellow over time unlike ABS
>>
>>58885837
XDA is a cheap, shitty knockoff of a real profile (DSA)
>>

>>
Anyone have any experience buying NPKC pbt keycaps on ebay?
>>
>>58885913
Whatever floats your boat pal. I've had some ABS DSA caps for almost 10 months, and they're still as white and textured as the day I got them, even after 10 months of 6+ hour use every day
>>
>>58885936
Yes, but that means dealing with Signature Plastics and their insane price gouging for what is essentially the same keycap profile (although XDA has a greater surface area on the top of the keycap which is probably better)
>>
>>58885602
I do understand that a lot of the reviews will be fake and amazon does have a 30 day return policy. A lot fo youtube reviews say they are good though and a few reviews on forums say they are fine as well, i even watched a typing test video and there are no double key presses or anything with the blue version i bought that it arriving tomorrow. I'll just have to wait and see and report back tomorrow
>>
>>58886136
XDA cost more than DSA

>>
>>58885913
You know you can't feel doubleshot legends and they'll never wear off either right?
>>
>>58888107
You can feel them where the two injections meet. If you pass your fingertip down the keycap you can feel the difference. PBT is a softer plastic and after getting an EnjoyPBT set I can never go back to ABS ever again
>>
>>58888812
Sounds like shitty caps then. I've got some cheap Tai-hao PBT doubleshots and some SP PBT dyesubs, they both feel perfectly smooth and you can't tell where the legends are.
>>
>>58888888
>>
>>58888981
>cheap Tai-hao PBT
>both feel perfectly smooth
since I've never used GMK double shots I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that they are smooth due to the high quality tooling, but now I know your trolling since Tai-hao PBT isn't smooth at all, unless SP keycaps are that bad in quality, which I doubt since my double shot ABS I got from them is perfectly fine. Besides PBT feels better under your fingers compared to ABS
>>
>>58889147
I prefer PBT to ABS, comparing my GMK set to thick PBT Modern Beige set, which is apparently made by Gateron.

That being said, the GMK set feels good too.

Yeah, the only set that hit 1k was Carbon IIRC. Plum is nice, IMO, and different, but will it hit 1000 orders? No, I'd say a little over 500.

I'm tempted to stick an order in but I'm sick of paying import charges when GMK stuff is shipped back into EU.

GMK Coniferous on the other hand has EU and Asian proxies in place to handle the orders from GMK, so we avoid all the usual Massdrop tax. I'm more tempted by that desu, we need more green.

Is it weird not to care about keycaps? I feel like they're all too expensive for what they are. Even modifier sets are insanely expensive.
>>
hello,

work in this field, I would like to remind users TADA68 is not a consumer keyboard! it is used in specialized areas of computing i.e. supercomputers, enterprise, certain areas of software development, networking and storage management (servers).

there are reasons for this which can be loosely categorized by 'externally' and 'internally'. externally, gnu+machines are easier to maintain, cheaper and more reliable. internally, the l-kernel itself responds and is better suited to the tasks I previously mentioned.

notice that these tasks listed are generally not consumer oriented! TADA is taking great steps and leaps in trying to penetrate that market but as of today and tomorrow won't be a consumer keyboard. If you are interested in this type keyboard, use a 60%! It is a consumer friendly.

it depends on where you get them. cheap PBT keycaps can go for $30 bucks while ABS can be low as $15

If you want custom colors your gonna have to pay big money. OEM keyboards used to come with insanely high quality keycaps that practically never wore out, now days its just pad printed trash. I will say this after using PBT keycaps on the Model M and the ones made by Ducky I can never go back to the harsh feeling of ABS

The Duck viper and DSA keycaps cost around $500. I don't know what switches he's using, but lets say they're zealios so add another 150. That numpad looks like the Tris which is another $300. Yeah so all together it should be around $1000
>>
>>58893277
Jesus, how wrong can you be?
I mean, the only things you got right were the name of the keyboard and the profile of the keys.
>>
>>58893307
Duck Viper was $310 not including shipping and those DSA keycaps cost $160 not including shipping

geekwhack.org/index.php?topic=86087.0

The switches look like you spent 60 bucks at most, and as for the numpad its not the tris, but this which is 145 bucks not including shipping
geekwhack.org/index.php?topic=53348.0

All together it should be around $700

That's still a lot of money for a meme, but then again I spent a lot on my RSIII
>>
>>58869434

>>
>>58893624
That Viper is the V2, which was about $50 more expensive than the V1that I have.
You're right about the Light Pad.
The switches were about 35 direct from Cherry.
Including shipping, I think 600 or so, all told.
