Just in case you missed it in the end of the last thread:

Do you have your wifi or ethernet drivers installed or compiled since it's Gentoo...
>>
>>58569432
I'm 90% sure I did, but this is my 3rd attempt, so maybe I slipped on something when configuring the kernel
>>
>>58569450

Hmmmm. Only thing I can say at this point is check your use flags to see if you missed anything.

Also, do you know what chipset your wifi card has? If it's a Broadcom then you will need to actually have Gentoo up and running since that chipset uses proprietary drivers last I checked (could be different nowadays but I am not 100% sure since I avoid Broadcoms...)

I've had similar problems with Nvidia drivers, both on windows and gnu/linux. Your best bet is completely uninstalling any Nvidia or Nvidia related software off your computer, and installing an older driver. If that doesn't work, it's probably some bios setting.

Knowing Windows, the latter. You would have to ask any low level engineers lurking around here if there is an actual solution, but good luck with that, last known time an engineer from MS came in here was in 2015 during the first windows 10 release. It's how LTSB N is shilled so hard on this board.

the formatting aint great. if you can think of an extra section to put at the bottom that would be good, otherwise use a slightly bigger font and put an extra space in between each of your sections. as it is now, it looks like you're only using up like 40% of the page space. you could put more space between your section headings and the text too so that the margins wont look so huge. and delete those huge ass bullet points, just use a dash instead

making your resume look sexy (as in aesthetically) isn't important, but it needs to at least not look like shit or the person reading it is going to not like you before they even read a word.

easiest thing to do would just be to download rufus and the iso to your flash drive and then use another windows computer to make it instead of fooling around with other bullshit methods. surely you have access to a windows computer at work/school/local library. i'm pretty sure rufus just runs as an exe and doesn't need to install anything to use

No not unlocked, I'm saying if it's an international version, aka not specific to any carrier. Nexus are not tied to carriers either, so I mentioned those. All of them get updates. International versions of phones are the first to get updates, and then it trickles down through the cogs of carrier phones who want to bloat the ROM with their crapware and make it work with their radios.

Buying it preowned should not make a difference. There should be tools for Xperia devices that do not void your warranty or unlock your bootloader just like Samsung's Odin. Look into that

Well, to be fair, on Linux, software that doesn't have a large demand doesn't get made or doesn't get maintained.

WinUSB only works for Vista+, and there's hardly any demand at all anymore for XP USB creators, so there's just no software for it. Not to mention there is a far greater number of users on Windows, so just due to that, there is more software on Windows for cases like this.

1. Is the VDI/VHDX/VMD compatible between different virtualization software?

2. What about drivers for specific hardware? For example can a printer be run from the VM image? or it needs to be installed on the host?

3. All these seems to require the application to be installed on the physical HDD first then create the image.
What if the machine have some hardware failure not related to HDD that prevents it from booting?

You don't need much at all. I usually do about 2GiB of swap for 16GiB of RAM, or 8 if I have less than 16GiB.
If you want to hibernate, you will still want a swap partition at least slightly larger than your RAM.
Also, make sure you have swappiness turned down to about 10.

New to Linux here, currently on Mint. I've been playing some RPGMaker games through Wine, it runs fine, but there's no music playing.

Found out this happens because the music files are in MIDI, and apparently by default there aren't any MIDI codecs installed...maybe I'm not doing this the right way, but I tried to open the files directly to see if all it needed was to install some packages, and effectively I needed gstreamer packages, which I installed through terminal, but then trying to play the MID files still doesn't work.

I've tried googling and checking the installgentoo wiki, but as far as I can understand they call for installing a separate player, but I'm looking for a plugin or package that can play the files for a game, not to enjoy separately.

tl;dr playing games through Wine, MIDI bgm files won't play, wut do? If I get this resolved I'll put together a neat little guide for /hgg2d/ and /rpgmg/

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine#MIDI_support
Read that, follow the link I provided, and then read up on the MIDI link that it gives on the page I sent you.
You probably have to install a separate player so that it can get the decoder from it to run MIDI files in the first place.
>>
>>58572488

The problem is nobody has sound cards with midi support these days. So you need to install a midi synthesizer first..

Yes.

You don't want tutorials. Tutorials are for retards. What you need is to learn protocols and programming language in depth.

# Find out the name of the output that isn't "Headphone"
# output=$(amixer -c "$soundcard" | grep -m 1 -o "Simple mixer control '\(Front\|Speaker\)'" | grep -o "Front\|Speaker")
output="Front"

# Find out if headphones are on or off
status=$(echo "$status" | grep -m 1 -o "\[\(on\|off\)\]$")
if [ "$status" = "[on]" ] ; then
amixer -q -c "$soundcard" sset "Headphone" mute;
amixer -q -c "$soundcard" sset "$output" unmute;
elif [ "$status" = "[off]" ] ; then
amixer -q -c "$soundcard" sset "Headphone" unmute;
amixer -q -c "$soundcard" sset "$output" mute;
else
echo "Error: couldn't find a soundcard with Headphone/Front, last soundcard tried: $soundcard";

Hitachi and Toshiba hard drives are the way to go, and SAS>>>>>SATA Nearline>>>normal SATA drives, no matter the brand.

If I do a fresh install of windows 7 in a hard drive that already has windows 7, will my files other than the windows system and such be deleted? If they are, is there a way to keep the files over a fresh install without having to backup and transfer them? I don't have the means to do a backup at the moment.
>>
>>58572854
Turns out, not implementing a botnet in every driver reduces the size and complexity of that thing.
>>
>>58572456
Yes.

>>58572696
Yeah, it's Samshit. Unless you're looking for just storage capacity and/or are using SATA.

Depends on what you think affordable is.
>>
>>58573103
You should assume they will, although the windows installer can sometimes detect the already-existing files and keep them.

Please link me to a Windows 7 telemetry removal guide

M$ has started pushing bulk updates of sorts since maybe September, and I struggle to find resources helping me out with them- haven't updated since they dropped.

by "M$" I mean no disrespect- it's just convenient to stylize it that way, pls no bully. Thank you.

Lua.
Can i reference arguments outside a function and interpret them inside the function then?

Like:
t = {
["arg_to_call_1"] = arg5,
}

function xY(timestamp, event, arg1, arg2, arg3, arg4, arg5)
for _, arg in pairs(t) do
---use arg_to_call_1
end
end

right now i iterate through a string thats literally containing something like "arg12" and assign the argumet within the function.

I don't think so, I already installed "GWX Control Panel" (looked through my programs list to find the familiar relevant name), and it controls invasive Windows 10 update stuff, too. Thanks anyway though.

What I was looking for was like this:

http://pastebin.com/raw/yaJpc9Up

It's a link I got from here telling how to remove "telemetshit" (stylized way to say "telemetry") from Windows 7, which included M$ using your PC to seed updates, spying etc. However it is clearly outdated, only addressing updates before the bulk Windows Updates dropped for 7. I can't really find anything that is recent, for lists that've been updated recently don't have a timeline for when what was updated or anything from what i've seen...

Whoa, thank you!!!! The latest timestamp on updates seems to be 2016, but that seems way more a comprehensive list than what I'd linked and used in my previous post. Thanks again.

Even if I update and this doesn't cover the late 2016 bulk updates. at least I'd've gotten rid of older ones I never even knew about.

emerge @world --update --newuse --deep should only emerge the packages that have a "wifi" use flag but didn't enable it.
But I doubt it'll do anything, I'm running gentoo on a thinkpad without the use flag and wifi works. Did you install the wifi firmware?

download any DAW and find a chiptune VSTi. If you dont wanna hassle with torrenting and finding VSTi, you can download LMMS daw. I would recommend you downloading first LMMS and trying it, play and see how it goes. It's free, and similar to FL studio, at least in principle. If you like it and advance, then go for something more professional.

LMMS has several chiptune-y VSTis, like monstro, bitInvader, freeboy, kicker, nescaline, sfxr, you just have to play with them to find a good sound. Also, download this VST and play with it

you must extract its .dll into VST folder

Heard some of these cheap thinkpads are good for hackintosh, but how true is that?

Since as of late I barely do anything than playing music and web browsing on my main computer, could I replace it with that?
>>
>>58573613
1) Download the firmware (it should be in sys-kernel/linux-firmware, make sure it is).
2) Check your .config, it should contain both CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE and CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIR. If it doesn't, add it.
3) Compile, reboot, the interface should show up.

>>58573624
Could be that. Or maybe they want you to understand the architecture and add features. or maybe they want you to rewrite it. No way to know, ask them.

Heh what a coincidence, i was going to ask here for handy macOS keyboard shortcuts since i just installed Sierra on my T420 and i'm liking it so far.

I'm running a 1600x900 T420 with an mSATA 850 evo SSD and was surprised that everything worked flawlessly out of the box, even the trackpoint.

...aside from the WiFi but replacing the stock Intel WLAN card for an Atheros one made it work instantly.

I'm thinking of getting an SSD. I was too optimistic and thought they'd get cheaper this year so I can buy a few and upgrade my machines, but their price has increased by roughly 20% over the last 3 months. Will they become even more expensive or should I wait until they get cheaper again?
I may as well get a 120GB one now for my main PC, just in case.
>inb4 poorfag problems
I just don't want to feel retarded if their price suddenly halves in 5 months.

Why do some processors come with an integrated GPU? People are going to buy a dedicated GPU anyway, wouldn't it be cheaper if processors didn't come with a iGPU? Even if you don't want a powerful computer, you could just buy a cheap GPU.

Most of the cost is R&D, so it's not worthwhile to maker a separate one without the graphics, and it's always nice to have that if the card fails. Some Xeons don't have graphics. That was really inconvenient when my GPU failed.

I accidentally installed Windows 10 in legacy mode for some reason, and I want to switch it to UEFI mode. Is there a really easy way and reliable to do this without reinstalling?
