Hello.

Help me /g/

I'm upgrading my PC audio, and I'm going for bookshelf speakers and an amplifier. My mobo has an optical out. Should I be looking at amplifiers/receivers with an optical input connection, or would that be pointless since I'd only be listening in stereo anyway? I feel like I'd prefer the computer recognise the amp as the "sound card" so that I don't have to adjust e.g. volume from two different places, but that would only work with a digital (USB) or optical connection.

tl;dr stereo analog amplifier or digital/TOSLINK-equipped amplifier?

Optical receivers I've used added significant latency. Maybe they're better now. Never tried a USB. Internal card will always have the least latency. I noticed significant improvement with my $20 Xonar vs onboard. I'm liking my DTA-1 amp. The Lepai I got for the other room is noisy when not playing anything and the included power supply has no registration marks, not even a fraudulent CE one.

For anything non-interactive, you could just offset things if the audio ends up being out of sync. It's really not much of a problem even with the delay. I used to play video games on my dad's system like that. The tv lagged too because it was DLP.

I was transporting my PC today. Had to walk in the rain for maybe 30 seconds or less. Was carrying my tower. It's visibly wet, but mostly just sprinkled. I have a very big problem with my new Mac Mini.
There are three "Keychains" that use "Keys" to for example write or read something on the keychains.

Now here's my problem:

There are three keychains:
Registration (to log in and use the mac)
local objects (to access iCloud, which basically does everything)
System

iCloud and other applications are trying to access the keychain and want me to enter the password for "local" objects".
The problem is that I haven't set one and can't give iCloud permissions over keychain management.

I actually did try that earlier when I opened it in GIMP, but the page to sign is in Page 2, while whenever I export to PDF it only exports Page 1 since all the other pages are seen as just layers

There's a whole bunch of other pages too, so it would be incredibly complicated to pull out Page 2 specifically to sign it, and then place it back into exactly where Page 2 was as a single PDF document since there's Page 1, 3, 4, etc.

Gentoomen:

I have a pair of Xeon microprocessors that I'm considering getting a motherboard for, but I don't know it they are worth putting back into service. The markings on the bottom are '2800DP/2M/800'. I have never used that feature, is it just a way to draw your name in the pdf or does it do something special?
Because if you have some time, then why not draw it a bunch of times in inkscpape, save it as tikz and insert it in the documents you have to sign.
This way, you cannot extract the signature as an image, the signature is stored as a text file you can encrypt however you'd like and it is easy to embed.

Any player that can play two subtitles from .MKV file at the same time? Bonus: can be fed two .SRT and play them simultaneously.

Or how do I achieve this with VLC? Googled and the result is very sketchy, a plugin to create extra window with subtitles (which I would also have to extract from the file). Easier would have been just to brute-merge two subtitle files into one, but I don't want to do this.

Pls appreciate my OC.

I don't think they monitor the network directly unless something happens, but we have found a few back door ways into restricted sites at work, and it's usually patched up after a few weeks.
Maybe I'll give this to someone who I know will abuse it and let them test it for me.
Otherwise I'll only use it when absolutely necessary and not access personal accounts. I kinda just wanted it to be able to stream some videos on my work network. I can connect my personal laptop and not have to sign in to access the network so the only way my network admin would be able to know it was me is if he walked in to see me with his own eyes and they rarely get out of their offices so that's not likely.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. IPS monitors allow for far less washed out colors than the standard TN pannels, and tend to cover a little more range on the sRGB scale, but in order to find more true to life colors you need to buy or borrow a calibrator, which generally cost $80+

Pic related is an exam question that I'm struggling with. (Don't worry, you aren't doing my homework - this is a past paper that my lecturer didn't provide answers for)

My first issue is whether or not it's okay to have noncontiguous equivalence classes. For example, for the "contains" method, is it okay for my classes to be
>True: record with personID is in list
>False: record with personID is not in list
Or do I need to specifically divide the integers into contiguous segments?

My second issue is with side effects. For the add method, for example, my list is
>true: personID or name not in list
>false: personID in list
>false: name in list
however, this only tests the return value of the method, not the side effect (actually adding the record to the list)
Since EQ partitioning is a black box technique, am I supposed to only go off the return value and not bother checking if the item was actually added to the list?

I already do that. A password is not the same as a mobile authentication code.
>>
>>58565735
You only have to do the authentication code once per client, so if you authenticate once on your home PC you won't need to do it again unless you reinstall your OS or the Steam application.
>>

>>58565769

Order this bad boy for my first PC build:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133315&cm_re=thermalake_p3-_-11-133-315-_-Product

The only issue is the riser cable. I order the case without one just because of all the horrible reviews (would either work, won't work, would work but at like half performance or make your motherboard explode) So it seemed like a waste of money to me.

My question would be is it worth trying to buy another riser cable but from a different brand? If so, any particular one? I think the aesthetic is cool having the GPU mounted vertically instead of horizontal, but for a $1000+ build, is it worth the risk?

if i have two monitors and i use the primary one to play a game in fullscreen mode, can i still watch a youtube video/use skype/read a guide on the second one?

i know that i'd have to alt tab out of fullscreen to interact with something on the second monitor, for example write something in the skype chat on the secondary monitor, but just simply letting a video or or letting a skype call run should work without problems right?

my other question is: if i'm choosing to play in borderless mode, is there an option to prevent the cursor from going to the second monitor? is there a way to make it so that i'd have to press a hotkey or something like that, which would make the cursor "jump" to the secondary monitor so to speak and would i need a program for that or is that already a feature in windows?

please help me /g/
>>
>>58565974
Do you shut your computer completely off or put it to sleep? If you put it to sleep, it is cumulative. I'm not sure if the Windows 8/10 Fast Startup (turned on by default, it's just Hibernate with a fancy name but replaces Shutdown if enabled) keeps your uptime going or not.

If you actually shut your computer off but Fast Startup is enabled, try just shutting it off and turning it back on again and check if it's still at 103 hours. Then try turning off Fast Startup and doing it again and see if it resets.

>can i still watch a youtube video/use skype/read a guide on the second one?

Yes it will work fine, that's what multiple monitors are for.

>if i'm choosing to play in borderless mode, is there an option to prevent the cursor from going to the second monitor?

It already won't unless you're in a pause menu where the cursor is enabled, pretty much just any menu that is Escape by default. So if I was playing BF4 in Borderless Fullscreen mode like you are referring to, I can just press Escape to open the pause menu and move my cursor outside the window and do whatever and then come back and it will re-lock once I leave the menu.
>>
>>58566012
It depends on each game and each program that you run. A lot of video programs will pop out of full screen mode if you do anything on the other screen. And games each have their own way of handling it. I've had some success with the play/pause buttons on my keyboard working from within games

The sane thing would be to install gnu/linux on your SSD, but if you want to keep it on your usb, you could install everything, including grub on the usb drive.
I know windows takes up an insane amount of space, but try to clean up as much as you can, and make a partition from within windows.
Use the HDD as a storage drive, both operating systems can access.

If it still doesn't work after that, I'm not sure what to tell you other than just rip the DVD you have, or torrent the same version in ISO format and run their tool.

Are all of the ports USB 3.0? If that's the case then that's why you need this tool, because 7 does not have native support for USB 3.0 chipsets. You will have to do this every time if that's the case, or upgrade to 8.1/10.

inheritance means you inherit something (methods, fields, etc)

polymorphism means you can take 'many forms'
you are a person, but you can also be a teacher, student, office worker at the same time

inheritance just had an 'accidental' side effect of polymorphism

>>
>>58567449
no, you'll want to wipe the partition it's on and reinstall GRUB to the master boot record. Other than that you'll be fine.

Why not virtualize it though if you aren't familiar with this stuff, at least then you can just virtualize a dual-booting scenario to practice. If you're trying different distros you should definitely be virtualizing or booting from a flash drive, not installing to the hard disk.

I am trying to install an intake fan in my pc case. However since the brackets on the fan need to face inwards towards the center of the case, the actual fan itself is pressed against the case when I mount it - making a lot of friction. Are there an fans with brackets on the other side of the air flow or am I missing something really obvious?

You have to shrink your windows partition, and then make a partition for Mint with that free space. I suggest booting into Windows first and doing the shrink there, then reboot back into the Mint installer and choose the new partition as the target to install to. Then it will install grub and you will have two OS's listed to choose from at boot. That's literally it.

This is why we usually suggest doing this first in Virtualbox and following a dual-boot guide, and then once you are confident enough to do it for real, do it on the hardware.

With a VM, if you fuck up you can just start over. If you fuck up your real-life Windows partition you will have to start your whole computer over.

Can you disabled most of it in the home version? I'll probably switch to Linux if not. I heard Ubuntu also did something scummy with your data though.

How long do factory manufactured liquid coolers last? I have no idea when I'll need to change it.
>>
>>58569005
Or just use Windows 7 or 8.1?
>>
>>58568946
It will still list an SSD as a hard drive. That anon is just a dumbass.

So you're saying you do not have a warranty? You might check the Warranty Status on the Dell website with your service tag to be sure. If you don't, you're pretty much shit out of luck if it's hardware failure. You could pay someone, but at that point it would just be easier to get a new laptop.
>>
>>58569010
I mean ones that were sealed at the factory.
>>
>>58569010

They usually list the guaranteed time on the same site you're buying it from. There was nothing in the product page for your cooler?
>>
>>58569005
No you can't, you can however do so in the Pro and Enterprise versions, and they're very easy to install AutoKMS or something on to keep them activated. It'd probably just be easier to use 8.1 and crack that instead though.

>>58569019
You could do that but you also have to make sure you disable all of the backported telemetry updates.

My laptop/tablet thing is so fucking slow on battery that it's practically unusable. I'd rather have it drain battery twice as fast if it means I'll be able to do shit two times faster.

However, I see no options for the CPU here, I swear my last laptop let you control how much it downclocked from here. Any tips?
>>
>>58569022
I dont think I do. It won't even recognize my service tag for Dell System Detect so I can't even run the diagnostic they offer for this model. I was just hoping to hear that it was a driver related issue and you guys are breaking my heart with this hardware failure stuff.
>>
>>58569037
jeeze I didn't even think of that. I'lll give it a look.

Try following this maybe, usually shows all the settings for me by default.

What's your service tag? Can you send a picture of it?

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3109900/software/you-can-remove-cortana-from-windows-10-but-its-tricky.html

There is a way to disable it but using the option Windows gives you won't disable it completely. I did this earlier and my computer isn't having issues. I included a bad link in previous post. Do NOT delete Cortana. Disable it.

Is there a way to detect drivers automatically for win 7? Like a program that isn't shit tier spyware.

It's a pain in the ass to download drivers for my x220 when I wipe my drives.
>>
>>58569085
Won't that get her in trouble? Nah I don't think I'm gonna share that here until I hear back from her on that one. Its just that I sent her a picture of that red glitching screen and she's been doing this work for over 30 years and all she said was, "oh my god thats crazy!". I then proceeded to shit myself over hardware failure because we've been working on this for so long trying to explore EVERY alternative and she finally said today, "its probably dying".
>>
>>58569037
well it says 50,000 hours. I guess it'll last for a few years minimum.
>>
>>58569123
I guess I'm asking on a scale of 1-10, how likely it is that I'll have to replace the part? Is it a 50/50 chance or is it more like 95% sure its hardware failure?
>>
>>58569120
3DP Chip and 3DP Net.

3DP Chip installer comes with optional adware so apply common sense to it.

You know /tpg/ has x220 drivers right?
>>
>>58569161

According to Google 50,000 hours is approximately almost 6 years: https://www.google.pl/search?q=50000+hours+to+years&client=firefox-b-ab&gbv=1&sei=EZiBWPfLOsqla-ecvfgI

Having a hard time figuring out how good I am. I'm not good at all but I've played with the languages. How can I say that I've dipped my toes in the water?

I think my biggest selling point is going to be the fact that I signed up for a C++ Programming class this Spring semester. I think I need to sell that the most.

Also I was speaking to a recruiter in some game. He explained that he assumes interns are don't know anything and mainly brings on those that show they've had work experience, especially if it's been longer than a year at a place because it shows they're reliable and have the basic traits of a quality employee. So my work experience section should be another big selling point.

>How can I say that I've dipped my toes in the water?

Hmmmm, either "some familiarity" or you could go for something like "Able to adapt to a variety of programming languages, currently studying the following languages: <list langs here>", perhaps? Basically, you want to show that you have some idea how these languages work but you don't want to sound like you know them like the back of your hand...

Do the basics, full factory reset if thag fails reinstall windows.

If that fails again turn off your GPU and use the IGPU only.

Also should I state what applications I've worked with? For example Android Studio and MySql Workbench and Github.

I only have win7 on CD and this thing doesn't have a D:// drive. I had win10 on a USB key but every computer I try it on won't recognize the key I have for it. I'm not even sure if this thing is backwards compatible but even if it was, I still wouldn't be able to install win7 again. I would've if I could've, as soon as I got it. I'm trying to look online now to see if the graphics card is integrated or dedicated. It'd be easier to replace those than the entire mobo.

goddamn you're bumming me out guys. i thought for sure you'd say "drivers 100%". i would've even taken "human error, you fucked up".
>>
>>58569390

Long shot but did you install the drivers for either of them?
>>
So, my old pirated version of windows 7 pre-SP1 is starting to become an issue. I'm planning on getting a new HDD and doing a fresh install soon, however I want to be able to access the files I have on the current HDD while using the new one to boot up windows, would I have to do the lenghty process of transferring the files over? Or can I just use the old HDD as an spare storage device and acess the files even though it has a windows installation on it? Also, what's the best way to pirate win 7, I don't want 8.1 or 10.
>>
>>58569418
Could have sworn I did...
But wouldn't ethernet still work?
