From previous thread:

Trying to plug an used GPU into an also used rig I bought, but when booting the PC doesnt "beep" nor display anything.

I tested the GPU on my old rig and it works well.

PSU from new rig is actually more powerful than old rig.

There seems to be no damage to the PCIe port on the new MoBo

What can I do to make it work?

Did you try different ports on the non-working rig? Also, can the mobo of the non-working rig actually support the GPU in question?

Just because it fits doesn't mean it's supported...

AutoHotKey noob here - I want to make a script for Win10 that will press Windows key, tab, tab, and enter after pressing ctrl + Win. It would open up the Start Menu with the hamburger at the top left already pressed (I think it looks better, isn't cluttered by that list of programs). I can't figure out the script though - what I have isn't working, how should I do it? Thanks in advance

Kind of two questions in one.

Can a CPU bottleneck cause stuttering and tearing?

Think I need to get one anyway since it's at its limits streaming video fullscreen on my 4k monitor.

The problem is, I'm on a $350 budget and nothing seems sufficiently better than my i5-4670k. What should I get, if anything?
>>
>>58506644
>cause stuttering and tearing
No, you would just get fps drops

> limits streaming video fullscreen on my 4k monitor
>4670k
Are you using the igpu or something? You should not be experiencing this if you aren't. If you are then not sure. I have a 4670k as well.

Is it possible to download an entire island for offline use in Google Maps?
>>
>>58506684
No, I have a GTX 1070; I'm confident that's not the issue but I could never know.

I might be stressing myself out over CPU thermometer values since thermal management has been difficult, but just fullscreening a Twitch stream can send it to the mid-60s C.

Still, there's a lot of tearing and suttering with both video streaming and just scrolling through webpages that's rather annoying.

Is it the monitor itself that's just not powerful enough to push 60 frames per second at 4k resolution? Did I cuck myself buying it?

Downloading isn't the problem but rather how big an area you can download in one shot. Google is the one that defines how big that is. That said you probably can get the entire island in one go. Maps will give you a list of areas it has saved so you can see if you got it all or need to download the areas around what you already have.

Does having a lot of #IfWinActive blocks in AutoHotkey eventually slow it down or cause it to bloat and fuck up your system performance? Use these all the time to configure keybinds for programs or games that don't otherwise let you change this stuff, and tend to just leave them there even after I don't use the program anymore so I've amassed a lot of them. How come sometimes when I change my resolution using nircmd, then run a full-screen program, when I alt-tab out of it it will go back to my default resolution? (And go back to the resolution I chose only when I alt-tab back into the full-screen program.)

I actually like this and find it convenient but I'm confused as to what causes it since it doesn't happen when I change resolution with AMD profiles or manually in Windows. Does nircmd use a different mechanism to change resolution that behaves differently in how it interacts with programs?

Tbh I'm pretty sure I'm subconsciously forcing myself to not be worried because i'm fairly sure i'm not competent enough to figure out wtf happened
prime example idk where tf to look for the updates in event viewer
and also it was a while ago
like maybe a couple of weeks
or maybe a couple of months.
Also I haven't done any office installs
But I just checked defender and it is on, although I don't know if this is something I turned on myself either lol
I remember I asked /g/ if they had it on or not and followed what they did, so do you use it?
because if not then it may have turned itself on
>>
>>58509407
If you disable it trough windows defender settings it will continue to download updates, you have to turn the service off.

Just dont worry at this point, run malwarebytes, adwcleaner, make updates manual again, and give the program admin privileges again.

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 with Realtek RTL8168 ethernet. The internet connection is very poor, opening a file will download quickly at first but then slow to a crawl and likely stall all together. I know it's not the internet connection because my roommate is sitting six feet away with Windows 7 and it's working perfectly fine.

The way the speed suddenly scales down makes me think it's some sort of TCP window scaling issue.

According to IBM, the primary reason we don't have neural input devices right now isn't a matter of reading brain signals but rather a lack of the computational power required to make sense of it with all the noise.

Windows 7 doesn't detect it. I need to do some more testing to confirm that it works.

Do you want to burn them into the image so they're actual hardsubs (rarely the ideal option, and you'll lose quality since you have to reencode, but sometimes unavoidable if you're adding subtitles to a videogame you're hacking or something) or just merge them into the mkv file without reincoding? The latter is called muxing and there are plenty of programs and guides out there in google, for the former you'd have to reencode in handbrake or whatever.

I dont really think its worth it. Just route everything over eth0 and set bandwidth limits for torrents. That's the easiest solution. On windows I wouldn't know how to six that, but on Linux you could make iptable rules for 80 and 443/TCP on eth0 and whatever torrenting port you use on wlan 0. Seeing CrystalDiskInfo beind discussed I decided to check it out because my laptop has been giving me SMART warnings for the last half a year - but only since I messed about with my hard disk and tried to remove the recovery partition (I can't because of where the boot sector is located).
Now I am wondering, has deleting the partition and then reintroducing caused these errors, or are these simply a large chunk of false positives?
It's 8GB of dead disk, half the recovery partition size.

It looks very bad, so is it just best to clone and replace?
>>
>>58511727
There's also no point to defragmenting an SSD. The data is all split up by nature. So a partition wouldn't be all in one place like on an HDD, and the OS doesn't even see where the data is or control where files are written to
>>
>>58511727
>I understand
No, you don't.
It's not that it's bad, it's that there's literally no fucking point and it just wastes drive writes.
On a rotating drive, you defrag it to keep system files and often-used files towards the edge of the platter where the platter is rotating fastest (ie. it reads fastest), whereas in SSDs there are no moving parts.

>>58511735
Reallocated sectors means that sectors are failing - and eventually the disk will run out of unmapped sectors (all disks ship with a certain amount of unmapped sectors that it can remap data to), and you'll get get an increasing uncorrectable_sector_count which will mean permanent dataloss. Clone that fucker ASAP and get rid of it, preferably with thermite.

Every now and then Windows tells me that my HDD is failing. I then proceed to run crystal disk info, speccy and samsung magician's SMART thing and they all tell me the problem is the read error rate, but everything else is fine. How worried should I be? I sometimes notice small slow downs when accessing data that's on the HDD but other than that it doesn't seem to be malfunctioning

>But exactly how many total bytes written would defragging, say, 5 gigs worth of data, consume?
depends
in an extreme example, lets say the filesystem uses 4k clusters, and everything is completely fragmented (as in every cluster isn't where it should be)
lets also say the ssd has 512k blocks
lets also say there is no write optimization done by the OS (no attempt to write multiple filesystem clusters at the same time to the ssd)
in this case every defragment operation will effective cause 512k of the ssd to be written for every 4k cluster, causing 640G of writes overall. this is called write amplification

in practice your OS should be trying to optimize writes such that many clusters are written next to each other at the same time, causing multiple 4k clusters to only cause a single 512k block to be written, minimizing write amplification

but yea, assuming those numbers, anything from 0 (no fragmentation) to 5G (completely fragmented but perfectly optimized process) to 640G (completely fragmented and completely unoptimized process)

full backup beforehand even if you're worried some data is corrupted, since it's not a huge amount anyway

get a 1080 now, the ti won't be as good a deal price-performance wise and it's unlikely prices will drop much anyway
fuck waiting, get a card and use it

Hairworks is a gimmick, don't let it affect your purchase.

When plugging my phone in through USB, it won't show even a quarter of the stuff on my SD card.
I'm guessing this is down to the card being 64GB. Would the issue be to do with the USB cable or the driver or something?

This SSD is what my OS runs off, but Magician is having trouble detecting the SATA interface so I can't authenticate it or update firmware.
Is this because it's plugged into a Gigabyte GSATA3 (controlled by Marvell 9128) and I haven't installed the Marvell drivers? Should I install Marvell drivers even though it works fine otherwise?

I'd like to be able to see my health status and TBW. CrystalDiskInfo doesn't display this.

Has anyone heard of old amd (ati) cards having weird tearing issues?
https://youtu.be/PV2Fx0e8J5g
Here's a video I initially called it "chrome bug" cause that's what I thought it was but it happens on any video playback. Not in games so much.
Anyway I've searched for this and haven't come to a conclusion on what it might be.
Pic relates it's a radeon 5700

Can't. Download from a better source.
>>
>>58512510
Not op but look into repeaters or access points.
They both boost the range of your wifi by basically another router.
Don't use a repeater for gaming or anything other than just Internet access cause there's input lag.

nvm solved it

It means you have a very likely chance that data is permanently corrupted now.

>>58512646
Should be relatively simple to impliment. Request from one of the actively maintained branches of 4chan X.

>>58512759
What phone? And have you tested by plugging the microSD (I'm assuming) into another device?

>>58512895
I believe ACHI mode is required for flashing new firmware onto the drive that it can make use of the next time it starts - otherwise you have to flash the drive while it's not mounted.

>>58512957
That's vertical tearing.

>>58513099
>>58513174
Files usually also have a MIME type by which you can tell which file it is.

CHKDSK reports no errors.
CrystalDisk reports 2 Pending Sectors.

Which do I believe?

>>58513186
Thanks for the reply.
I tried booting with AHCI mode enabled but the OS told me there was an error and it would reboot itself, so I switched back to IDE.
I'm confident that this is an issue with the motherboard and how the control drivers for the sata connections have been installed (they weren't on this new install). I'm still getting the SSD speeds so I won't worry about it for now I guess.

But it's in a square where it's out a sync not a line cutting the screen. I thought vertical tearing was only when it covered from top to bottom?

Yep, I expected that. Your Windows will keep giving you that error because Microsoft fucking suck and can't figure out that switching between IDE and AHCI drives requires a regedit: http://winaero.com/blog/switch-from-ide-to-achi-after-installing-windows-7-or-windows-8/

>>58513306

Crystaldisk. Windows doesn't have direct access to S.M.A.R.T. statistics, probably for licensing reasons

If I want to move a game from the SSD to the HDD and one the other way around, is it enough to just move the files or do I have to reinstall them from scratch?
>>
>>58513358
If the game has been installed, you need to change any pointers to redirect to the games new location. There's instructions for doing this on steam. You could also use symbolic links for the folders containing the games

chkdsk only looks for filesystem errors
