Budget is #1 priority for me. I don't really plan on upgrading CPU desu. If I ever upgrade I guess I'll just shell out for another mobo all together.

About the 460, it used to be on my list but for $3 more, I would rather 1050 which scores significantly better. And getting anything higher than 1050 is useless since the CPU would be a bottleneck anyway.

Here's my current build for when I get back from college in a few months. Everything that's $0 is what I'm buying from Best Buy with a $450 gift card & I'm picking up the CPU and Motherboard from Microcenter. My only issue is whether there's anything worthwhile between an RX 480 and a 1070, like maybe a Fury or something. I'm reusing my current hard drive. So this build brings me to around $400, subtracting what I get for selling my 750ti after I rebuild my computer.

How tricky is it to move Windows 10 to a new drive?

I have all the parts to do my first build as well as a Windows 10 key and .iso from my school. I'm waiting for my SSD in the mail but was thinking of booting on my regular platter drive and reinstalling once the SSD gets here

I've decided to build a new gaming PC, since my old desktop is falling apart. Old system is mediocre from 2006, has Pentium 2 processor, 4gb Ram, broken GPU, mobo with not really any decent connections. I can't even get video out until I get a new GPU.

So my first question is, what should I be looking for in a modern desktop PC? I've been out of the game for about a decade. I'm not loyal on Intel/AMD/Nvidia so any would work. What chipset should I look into? Anything particular about GPU I should consider? I would prefer a small or medium case, and price could be anywhere from $500- $1500 or higher. Can I even have a quality gaming PC that's small in size?

My other question is, what should I do with my old and busted PC? When my AMD HIS 4750 was working, I could run LOL just fine, so maybe it's at least worth a media server? Will likely install Linux if some kind if I keep it.

I can't mount my CPU cooler correctly. As you can see, only one of the 4 pins goes all the way through the hole in the motherboard and the remaining 3 are stuck. I can't push them through even using quite a bit of force. The cooler seems to be mounted in place well, though. It won't move a single milimeter and has been mounted like this for a few days already (and cooling the CPU perfectly). Can I leave it like this?

In fact, after thinking long and hard I realized I was making a mistake building on a FM2+ mobo! Shit's already on its last legs and will get replaced by the AM4. So I just scratched the whole build and started a new.

You can easily get to 144fps @ 1440p with the right CPU and GPU without needing more than 16GB of RAM.
The only reason for more than 16GB of RAM is if you REALLY need it like for example VMs, production/workload, etc.
Minimum requirement is i5-6500 + RX480 8G, best value is i5-6600K + 1070, luxus is i7-6700K + 1080/ti.

I'm using the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Case with a Noctua nh-u14s and for whatever fucking reason its blocking the first PCI express slot on my Asus Z170 pro gaming board.

There is another slot I can put it in but will it affect the performance, I read it has 3 slots 1 at x16 (the one thats blocked) and the others are x8 x8 SLI

It looks like your Mobo has a dvi port. Maybe there's some driver issue. If you have a disc drive then I'd imagine your graphics card came with a disc with drivers on it.

Try plugging into your mobo's video out using a dvi port with the graphics card's disc already in the tray.
Install whatever drivers came on that disc.

If that doesn't work then unless your gpu isn't properly seated on the mobo, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe it's a bum card.

Hell maybe someone can help me. I recently went from an Antec 900 to a Phanteks Enthoo Pro.

My CPU heats up to 85C when playing any modern game on Steam and idles around 70-75C on older games. Right now I'm using the stock cooler and the Phanteks came with a 200mm fan in front and 140mm fan exhaust. My antec had a top mounted 200mm, two front 140mm and a 120mm exhaust but I was still on stock CPU cooling then too.

Do I need to invest in after-market CPU cooling or should I just buy more case fans?

I just built my first rig and when I went to turn it on nothing really happened. The CPU fan never started spinner neither did the case fan, the only thing that happened was the motherboard leds turned on and a blue light from my graphics card.

There are people here who would put a person like you in a better/less-shitty job position since you know spanish and english. Straight to a supervisory position to be blunt. So, been having issues with a Asus RX470 and the drivers.

If you install the drivers, after restart the computer in less than a minute the screen goes black and hard reset is needed to start it again, but then again, the screen goes black.

After removing the drivers in safe mode the issue is gone.

Seems like several people is having the same problem, any ideas?. Should I send back the card and ask for a refund or could it be a faulty card?

Would try one more time, making sure you follow the instructions for installion to the letter. Doesn't matter if its suppose to be done that way or not, its just more you can tell whoever you did a bunch of checking, you got a shit card and you want your money back because its reported by a bunch of other users as well.

Yeah I had the MSI one and the screen just stayed black. I don't know what the problem is. I'm sending mines back for a replacement. If it doesn't work a second time I'll just get a refund and maybe get an RX480 or just sick with Nvidia for good.

Looking on newegg it seems like people are pissed.

1060 6gb vs 1060 3gb.... do those 3 extra gb make a difference for say video editing or gaming?

You're thinking of Gigabyte. My BIOS became corrupted on my Gigabyte board and all I had to do was flip a switch and reset and it was good as new.

you can definitely do all of that with your build. my only suggestion would be to get a 7200RPM hard drive instead of a 5400RPM. everything else looks good but you probably want a second opinion on that

NZXT H440 is a really nice case. Very spacious, but it does have a window.
If you really don't want a window then the Cooler Master Cosmos II might be worth a look.
