Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Whats a good Skylake/DDR4 motherboard around $100-$125 right now thats good for OCing a G4400 to 4.4Ghz and a i3 6100 to 4.8Ghz later on down the line? Looking to buy one in the next few hours. Help me out /pcbg/

Gigabyte GA-Z170 HD3P (or what it's called) there are like three versions of this mobo.

See if you can get cheaper RAM, cheaper case and a AC Wifi adapter.
>>
>>58337160
It's a good mobo though, if you can spend a little more get this: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/xdmxFT/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz170xud3
It's basically a smaller and cheaper UD5 which has excellent reviews and great OC potential.

The reason I chose that ram was to keep the red theme.

About the case, I've been grieving over the current or this one:

http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=121781

$45 with a 480w PSU
I like that one for the price and looks but I'm really afraid about the PSU being very cheap. All the reviews say they replaced it and a moderator on the site said the actual power was like 280w. My build only needs 230w but I'm not very sure.

Then again, it would save me like $40

s-should I?

Officially no, if you have to ask this stupid question i suggest you don't OC or get a prebuilt that already is OCd.
>>
>>58337395
Well I know that, I'd need to get a custom firmware or something like that to do that but I just wanna know if it's possible. I can always look up a tutorial later.

Biostar Z68 recv 1.3 mobo flashed to UEFI*
4x 2gb Corsair XMS3 1600 (*2x2)
i5 3550
R9 290 tri-x
500gb hitachi deskstar*
cooler master HAF 912 case*
Corsair CX 500 PSU*

*existing components

290: $120 off craigs, needed cleaned and new tim

3550: $65 from the bay. Works fine

ram : $13 from the bay

couple fans, cables and a surge protector: took friend to carls jr for lunch. ~$6

total $ 204

how'd I do /g/, I know the 290 and 500w psu is iffy but I am going to try and undervolt/underclock

spend a little extra and go full gaymer aesthetic.

am3+ mobo so you can upgrade to a dirt cheap octa later, you can xfire another 460 when they are sub $50 used and have a decent poorfag machine. I would get a used 1155/1150 setup before I'd buy existing AMD though.

Budget is #1 priority for me. I don't really plan on upgrading CPU desu. If I ever upgrade I guess I'll just shell out for another mobo all together.

About the 460, it used to be on my list but for $3 more, I would rather 1050 which scores significantly better. And getting anything higher than 1050 is useless since the CPU would be a bottleneck anyway.

This is the final build, I'll be using 2 old 1TB + 750GB HDD's. I regret not ordering some $20 SSD last night ;_;

oh 28nm my bad, it's much more outdated and shitty than gave credit for. Single core is on par with a 4 year old celeron. For the anons gaming use a pentium g would be better. The gimped l2 cache amd gave the 845 so they could claim big improvements in their 7th gen Carrizo based APUs doesn't help either. Min frames will suffer.

If your PSU is modular, try to find the 8 pin vga cable. If it isn't, get a molex to 8 pin vga converter.

The only "good" WD Blue is the 1TB model, since it's the only 7200rpm version of the series (all of the other "Blues" are actually just rebranded Greens with 5900rpm platters). You'd need to pay 20% extra for similar 7200rpm Blacks, which is a rip off considering all of the other HDD manufacturers more or less have 7200rpm drives for their entire range.

Here's my current build for when I get back from college in a few months. Everything that's $0 is what I'm buying from Best Buy with a $450 gift card & I'm picking up the CPU and Motherboard from Microcenter. My only issue is whether there's anything worthwhile between an RX 480 and a 1070, like maybe a Fury or something. I'm reusing my current hard drive. So this build brings me to around $400, subtracting what I get for selling my 750ti after I rebuild my computer.

I've decided to build a new gaming PC, since my old desktop is falling apart. Old system is mediocre from 2006, has Pentium 2 processor, 4gb Ram, broken GPU, mobo with not really any decent connections. I can't even get video out until I get a new GPU.

So my first question is, what should I be looking for in a modern desktop PC? I've been out of the game for about a decade. I'm not loyal on Intel/AMD/Nvidia so any would work. What chipset should I look into? Anything particular about GPU I should consider? I would prefer a small or medium case, and price could be anywhere from $500- $1500 or higher. Can I even have a quality gaming PC that's small in size?

My other question is, what should I do with my old and busted PC? When my AMD HIS 4750 was working, I could run LOL just fine, so maybe it's at least worth a media server? Will likely install Linux if some kind if I keep it.

I can't mount my CPU cooler correctly. As you can see, only one of the 4 pins goes all the way through the hole in the motherboard and the remaining 3 are stuck. I can't push them through even using quite a bit of force. The cooler seems to be mounted in place well, though. It won't move a single milimeter and has been mounted like this for a few days already (and cooling the CPU perfectly). Can I leave it like this?

I'm looking to get something that can handle modern games and games in the future fairly well. I would also like to be able to do some video editing and graphic design in Photoshop/GIMP. I feel a lot more secure about this one, will wait for the new Kaby Lake Pentium G4560 to roll out. And this way I know I can always upgrade to a better CPU when I am ready. It also is less expensive than the previous!

You can easily get to 144fps @ 1440p with the right CPU and GPU without needing more than 16GB of RAM.
The only reason for more than 16GB of RAM is if you REALLY need it like for example VMs, production/workload, etc.
Minimum requirement is i5-6500 + RX480 8G, best value is i5-6600K + 1070, luxus is i7-6700K + 1080/ti.

The purpose of this build is to please kek and allow me to play vidya while streaming me killing myself on twitch. Budget is 2600 (computer only , no peripherals needed). This will be bought in the Cucked States of Trump. If you can make me a better build for the same money that
-Runs games over 144 fps at 1080p while streaming
-manages to stream on heavier h264 encoding presets
-great overall experience with 4K gaming over 60 fps
-Good playability of more CPU intensive titles such as Arma 3

Here are the specs
>Asus X99-A II MOBO
>i7 6800K Processor
>Corsair H115i Watercooler
>32 (4x8) GB DDR4 Corsair LPX Memory 3000 MHz
>WD 1 TB 7200 RPM 3.5"
>HyperX Savage 480 GB 2.5"
>Nvidia Titan X
>EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 W G2 Fully Modular
>Phanteks Eclipse P400 Steel Case

Observations:
The power supply is rated at 1000W for future upgrades , like a second card, RAM , Custom watercooling loops, and etc...

All parts (with the exception of the Titan X), will be purchased through amazon (US). The 30 days of trial for prime will be active .

Thanks in advance.

Dual channel allows your CPU to access it more efficiently than single channel, as far as I know there's no real world improvement to gameing and only minor improvements in benchmarks, I'd stick with 1 stick so you can add another later
>>
>>58344967

>>
>>58344958
Yes it will. Either mount the cooler sideways or return it and get something compatible.
>>
>>58345010
Wasn't it going to get retailed for 1000$ ? That's not at a price point I would consider much cheaper (percentage wise).Maybe 900$. And you know how the launch is going to be (just take a look back at how many cards were overpriced at launch) , especially considering Nvidia's return policy for 1080 owners to get cheaper 1080tis. So if we get cards for 1100$ at launch , then I don't really think it will be worth it.
>>
>>58344967
Actually the 1080ti flat out beats the Titan for half the price, my bad.

>>58345085

It looks like your Mobo has a dvi port. Maybe there's some driver issue. If you have a disc drive then I'd imagine your graphics card came with a disc with drivers on it.

Try plugging into your mobo's video out using a dvi port with the graphics card's disc already in the tray.
Install whatever drivers came on that disc.

If that doesn't work then unless your gpu isn't properly seated on the mobo, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe it's a bum card.

Hell maybe someone can help me. I recently went from an Antec 900 to a Phanteks Enthoo Pro.

My CPU heats up to 85C when playing any modern game on Steam and idles around 70-75C on older games. Right now I'm using the stock cooler and the Phanteks came with a 200mm fan in front and 140mm fan exhaust. My antec had a top mounted 200mm, two front 140mm and a 120mm exhaust but I was still on stock CPU cooling then too.

What do you mean it can't be overclocked?
>>
>>58346917
You can get a wrist band online or a electronics store. It's like $10. Worth imo
>>
>>58347144
only unlocked CPUs can be overclocked
you can overlock a locked one but you need to do it from the bios and you'll destroy the chip if you make a mistake
>>
>>58347142
Yeah, that is one my biggest dilemmas atm, is it possible to buy a 128GB at a later date and transfer windows to it?
>>
>>58347196
Of course
>>
>>58347193
Oh.
I've also just bought that CPU but I wasn't thinking about overclocking until recently. Is it worth doing for a first time build?
>>
Looking to pickup a decent CPU/Mobo combo. I am in Canada with no access to a microcenter.

Considered an i3-6100, but the new G4560 is apparently the same chip at a lower price (about $30 less).

However I have had several people recommend AMD chips to me, specifically something quad core or hexacore. Of the options available, what AMD chips are recommended.
>>
>>58347254
Nah. But it means you can get the cheaper motherboard like the H170 or H110.

>>
>>58347144
locked multiplier and intel changed the micro code so you cant change the bclk. ivy bridge was the last limited oc locked chips. was nice could go 4 bins over the max turbo and get 105 bclk on just about every machine

a 3550 at 4.2 (2nd best locked i5) is still better or equal to an i5 6500.(2nd best locked i5)

4 years and 2 gens newer.

>>
>>58347284
This is my build at the moment.
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cQjKnn
I guess I shouldn't need to change the MB because of the inability to overlock?
I'm always second guessing the parts though, like if I need to spend as much money on some than others, or if I need something better.
>>
>>58347070
Thank you for the advice. If I were to go the overclocking route, what CPU would you recommend? Conversely, what mobo would you recommend for build that isn't for overclocking?

Is it worth getting any thermal paste remover for building?
Also what is the best way of applying thermal paste? There are like a million methods online.
>>
>>58347351
Looks nice. It doesn't matter no, it's only if you wanted to do it in the future - which is unlikely, and a waste of money given you could just upgrade again.

H170, H110 if you're on a tight budget.

>>
>>58347717

everyone will point you in the direction of a 6700k. this will also allow you to save money on the motherboard.
>>
>>58347789
I started with a 6700k but everyone suggested the 5820k due to the 6 cores.

Do you recommend a different mobo?
>>
>>58347619

Except according to specs, the NEW G4560 HAS hyperthreading. So go fuck your own face.
>>
My motherboard is the Asus Z170-A and I bought some RAM modules that aren't on the qualified vendor list for the board. They're COrsair Vengeance LPX DDR 3200mhz 32GB (2x16). Even though they aren't on the list, they should be fine, shouldn't they?
>>
>>58347965

On like the last 6 computers I've built I've only gotten RAM that was on the qualified vendor list for one of them. Never had any problems.
>>
>>58347818

if you search through pcpartpicker there are a bunch of workstations that use 6700ks and they praise that cpu up and down.

but the 6 core runs on an x99 mobo while you'll need a LGA1151. i'm a fan of the asus maximus VIII but again, if you browse through completed builds on pcpartpicker then you'll see what people have already bought and what they recommend.
>>
>>58347567
Once again, thank you.

I looked on pc part picker and I couldn't any 16G memory for $50.
>>

i'm sorry, LGA2011-3 is for the 6-core, you'd need the LGA1151.

There are people here who would put a person like you in a better/less-shitty job position since you know spanish and english. Straight to a supervisory position to be blunt. So, been having issues with a Asus RX470 and the drivers.

If you install the drivers, after restart the computer in less than a minute the screen goes black and hard reset is needed to start it again, but then again, the screen goes black.

After removing the drivers in safe mode the issue is gone.

Seems like several people is having the same problem, any ideas?. Should I send back the card and ask for a refund or could it be a faulty card?

Sorry for asking it here.
>>
>>58348607
Would try one more time, making sure you follow the instructions for installion to the letter. Doesn't matter if its suppose to be done that way or not, its just more you can tell whoever you did a bunch of checking, you got a shit card and you want your money back because its reported by a bunch of other users as well.

They might be able to send you a sweeter deal depending.
>>
>>58348607
Yeah I had the MSI one and the screen just stayed black. I don't know what the problem is. I'm sending mines back for a replacement. If it doesn't work a second time I'll just get a refund and maybe get an RX480 or just sick with Nvidia for good.

Looking on newegg it seems like people are pissed.
