Should I just go all out and DBAN it?
>>
>>58234405
No need to DBAN, you are reinstalling windows not hiding yourself from FBI/CIA/Government institution/Removing Ransom-Cryptoware/Etc.

Windows installer format option will be enough.

I bought one of these. I didn't think of it before buying, but this thing gets really fucking hot. Is it suppose to get this hot? It is almost hot enough to burn, like your seatbelt if you left your car in the sun.

Probably adware that came with the installer.
Run Adwcleaner.

Yes, the smaller it is the less space it has to dissipate heat.
Ofcourse it will get hot and die fast.

MSI tru be honest. I've never had a problem with any of their products.

no, thats the actual program that I want to run. It's a control panel program to set the audio latency and sample rate and all that. I tried installing another program as well and it just opens up white.

>>
>>58234611
ataport.sys is a standard driver, it might be your hardware (e.g. HDD/SSD) being faulty and causing the issue.
>>
>>58234611
ataport.sys is present in all computers that use windows, i have it too.

Its giving you problems for something you changed or something that might be running.
Usually when something is giving you problems and you have no need to create backups the logical thing to do is reinstall windows.
If the problems persist then its time to check for hardware problems.

Can anyone explain me how the fuck virtualization IPs work?

Like, for example, I have the IP 177.77.77.69 on my Windows 10 (external and static) and I make a virtual machine with Centos and the external ip is 177.77.77.69 because they literally share the network. Now let's say I install ssh on Centos and try to connect from outside. I ssh the ip mentioned before and I connect there, right? How does it make a difference between the host and the VM if they both have the same ip? how does it even work

i'm a little bit drunk so sorry if this doesn't make sense

Lmao i posted this by mistake in headphone general, what a cuck general, who cares about headphones that much, literally my $5 headphones sound the same as super geek $500 ones retards

Hi, im trying to bridge two routers using a lubuntu laptop, i did it yesterday, but someone unplugged the laptop and i can't get it to work again

I did it by going to Network Connections -> Ethernet -> Edit -> IPv4 Settings -> Shared to other computers; it took a while i think i had to reboot the router n° "2" at some time, i just don't remember in what order i had to connect the cable, reboot the shit, and change the settings, or if i touched anything else, or if there's a better way to do it.

Anybody knows?

Computer 2 and Mobile 1 connect to Router 2 but get NO internet and NO access to Router 1 but YES access to adminpage of Router 2

Also Computer 1 got assigned 10.42.0.133 instead of 192.*.*.* as it normally goes

Gsync and freesync are variants of adaptive sync. Unless you have a monitor that explicitly features these and has a displayport input, you cannot use adaptive sync. If you're talking about vertical syn as in "vsync" on your control panel or in a games video settings, then that will lock the frame rate to the refresh rate of the monitor as well as introducing a reduction in screen-tearing at the cost of some latency and cpu overhead.

the VESA mount only refers to the four holes on the back, it doesn't mean the stand with be rotatable, so be sure the one you pick can do so if you need it

Am I at any kind of risk of corrupting anything because of the installer incorrectly downloading an old version of the drivers, and then allowing me to successfully re-install what I had by the same methods?

Everything within Windows, dxdiag and Radeon settings say I'm using the correct drivers. Tested a few games for about 10 minutes each and absolutely nothing crashed. Haven't seen if anything fucks up during longer use, but somehow it turned out fine.

Is there a way to check if 2 drivers for the same GPU are conflicting? I don't even know if that's possible.

Yes, it has a dynamic IP address which changes from time to time. You just got an IP that used to belong to somebody else who got his ass banned. You could appeal the ban, or just wait until you get a new IP. That might be as soon as the next time you disconnect from the mobile network and reconnect.

A bunch of questions if someone is willing to entertain them. When I was setting up my Comcast internet service I didn't think much about it at the time but I remember I had to change my router's MAC address to get the connection working with my router. I think Comcast only allows one device to access their network per subscription by looking at the device's MAC address running their stupid installation software. Is this right? Do all ISP's do this to prevent unauthorized devices from accessing their network? If not, is this just a way to get other people to keep renting their modems? Finally, does that mean I would either have to spoof my network adapter's MAC address or rerun the installation if I want to connect my computer directly to the modem?

Does anyone know how to create a Windows 8.1 To Go SD card? I'm trying to boot windows off a separate storage device so I don't have to partition my laptop's small SSD.

First I tried this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NJfEDQ8D2Y
Which seemed to work, but when I booted the drive was stuck with the spinning animation.

Then I tried to create the drive using Rufus, but apparently my sd card has the removable attribute, where it will only work with a fixed attribute (remove attribute would cause the loading to hang, like in my first attempt).

I'm going to try http://www.admin-magazine.com/Articles/Putting-Windows-8-on-a-USB-Drive tomorrow, although it seems exactly the same as my first attempt (but with some installation kit thing).

I tried to figure out if I could purchase a fixed attribute flash drive, but it seems you're most likely to get removable and amazon pages don't list what type the flash drive is. There are a few drives certified to work, but they're overly expensive.

>>
>>58237660

>>
>>58237946
Please buy a new one. If your PSU goes tits up it can take everything with it.
>>
>>58237973
I don't have access to my account because i'm not the owner since I rent. Here's the quote from their website.

>Because Port 80 is often used by malicious software, including viruses and worms, Optimum, like many ISPs, blocks this port for all standard Optimum customers.
>>
>>58237977
Just use DDU, it'll do everything with one button press. Your driver installation is scattered across registry, file system and services. It's very hard to manually locate and remove every single trace of the installation manually.

>>58237998
That's just marketing bullshit. The real reason for that block is that they want you to pay extra for business-grade connection if you want to host something.

You can't do any port fowards on your side because your ISP blocks all connections to it before they reach your computer. Best you could do is rent a gateway server that redirects traffic to your computer.

please help me select cpu to buy. I'd be buying a 1500$ range pc here. Been waiting almost a year to buy parts because a stranger told me I'd be an idiot if I didn't wait until new gen graphics cards and cpus are out - the idea being that I won't have to upgrade for years. The graphics cards came out 6 months ago or whatever and I'm glad I waited for them, but from researching kaby lake on /g/ the past 30 minutes it seems the wait was pointless.

Would I be buying a kaby lake or last gen cpu instead?

If buying from last gen like the i7-6700K would I at least benefit in any way from having waited, like prices going down?

I'm thinking about changing my whole attitude and just buying a pc for 1000$ if the lower end i5 processors turn out to have loads of improvements over the previous gen.

Logical increments assume you're building a PC for gaming. Crossfire & SLI give very little benefits for gaming, and some games do not even support them at all. You should always get a good high-end card instead of two midtier cards.

Wait for RX 490 or buy an 1070 instead of two 480's.

>>58238042
Kaby lake is not worth waiting for, it's mostly just a stock clock speed bump rather than an actual improvement. Zen, on the other hand, might provide better bang-per-buck than any i7. Early impressions are promising already but we'll have to wait for final benchmarks and actual prices to be sure.

If you don't belive in AMD the get that 6700k. Intel is not know for giving any price drops for older processors.

Leaks suggest January 17th but that might be too early. It will arrive during Q1 2017, probably during February. AMD has already been demonstrating it in public so sudden delays will be very unlikely to happen.

What's a decent 1080p monitor for both gaming and Photoshop/digital painting for under $200?

Currently have a Samsung PX2370.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001414

Great colors and contrast, but after only like 4 or 5 years it started to have these really ugly horizontal pixel-thin artifacts going across the screen from the sides and only got worse until I lowered the refresh rate from 60 Hz to 59 Hz and then they went away. But then the artifacts started coming back within a year and then I pushed it down to 50 Hz. Now the artifacts are creeping back up and I'm experiencing severe glitches in games like Overwatch if I push my FPS passed 60, where a portion of the bottom screen that normally you'd see the usual screen tears no longer updates that part of the image for a few seconds. It's like the bottom 5th or 6th of my screen is frozen for a few seconds while the top part animates fine. Sometimes this takes up half the screen or more if it gets really bad. Even with V-Sync and Tripple Buffering on, lowering settings/resolution, etc., I'm still getting this glitch at certain parts during matches, on top of the horizontal pixel artifacts I mentioned earlier.

Is there a reliable/rugged monitor I can use full power every day and not break down after 5 years? I just built a new rig so I want a monitor that will last 8-10 years or more with heavy usage every day and no auto power-saving features.

btw do any of you use 144 Hz/1440p monitors? How about 1080p at 144 Hz? How are they? Is it legit or would I be fine just replacing with the standard 1080p/60 Hz?

That site plays an mp4 file on the background and uses some javascript magic to play and pause it as you progress through the page. It is a very heavy site and if your PC is already struggling to play the game you'll see an impact.

Also check resource monitor to see if you're getting RAM capped. You'll get huge FPS drops if your computer decideds to cache RAM into disk to free up space.

I'm trying to sell an iMac on craigslist. It's a late 2015 4k retina model, and it was purchased around May. What's a reasonable starting price for it? The guy who got if for me paid ~$1,500. It's also in near-perfect condition (didn't use it much) and I know that macs tend to keep their value.

I'm having trouble figuring out a price here; namely because these are pretty new iMacs and all the ones on CL are old and bad for comparison.

Thoughts for a reasonable price?? I'm just finna use the money to build a stronger PC.

Both Russia/China are not our allies. Trump's naivety in thinking Russia will ally with US might doom America. And the antagonism with China is bound to happen regardless. This is the global scale of things.

On domestic scale, things might improve in short term, but in long term, US will lose out. Think Reagan/Nixon era. Short term "stability" but long term losses.

In the java file I try to do "import algs4.StdRandom;" at the start, and I have algs4.jar in the same folder. It just says that algs4 doesn't exist.

I try "javac -classpath ".;/home/anon/Desktop/Alg/1/;" PercolationStats.java" but it says the same thing.

the onedrive folder is the local folder that syncs up automatically.

Thank you for your reply, but are you certain? My answer sheet tells me that its O(n^3), but I get it to O(n^2) every single time. To me the complexity is n + (n - 1) + (n - 2 ) + ... + 0 = n(n+1)/2 ~ O(n^2) since j is starting at one higher value each time until the inner-loop condition does no longer hold, i.e when i > n. What am I doing wrong?

I've noticed lately that when I overclock my R9 280x and do intensive tasks that there's a smell coming from my computer. I assumed it was the power supply (old Rosewell was just out of
>>58234405
warranty), and bought an EVGA G2 to fix the problem. Don't like dropping $100 so easily, but it's a cheaper solution than my PSU taking my whole PC down with it.

However, I decided to play with overclocking a bit more today after I got the new PSU working and brought my 280x up to 1130 Mhz. When I ran FurMark, that same odor of burning plastic emanated from my computer, even stronger due to the new fans I plopped into my computer. Now, I don't know if this is the new PSU still offgassing, but I think this means that there's something wrong with my graphics card.

What should I do - should I replace my card or fix it somehow? The temps didn't get too outrageous with Furmark (78 C), but I'm really worried that some sort of fire may start if I fuck around with it too much.

Is the smell necessarily bad? Is it safe to keep running my GPU till it dies? And is it worth returning my new EVGA PSU and going back to the old one since I have now isolated the problem?
>>
>>58241390
Its not a good idea to use Furmark.

I'll have to test if Unigine creates the same smell later on. However, I'm still concerned that the smell might be indicative of something catastrophic.

>>
>>58241592
yes, mkv can store a still image as either;
- a single frame of video
- an attachment

this probably won't do for youtube use though, unless perhaps you used a weird well-under-1fps framerate to cause that one frame to display long enough to cover the audio

typically these kinds of video just use a more common framerate (even just 1fps) and have the frame duplicated for as long as is needed to cover the audio track length

terribly inefficient

yours;
89.89 seconds to encode
1532k output
lossy

ffmpeg -loop 1 -r 1 -i in.png -t 5:00 -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 -g 9999 out.mkv

this;
1.55 seconds to encode
135k output
lossless

you used defaults, which is 25fps, medium preset, and lossy (crf 28 or something), with a relatively low GOP length, this is reasonable assumptions for video, but not for a still image

>>
>>58241901
>How will this work?
its display time depends on the framerate, if it's 25fps, it will display for 1/25th of a second, at that point most video players will consider the file complete and stop playing, setting repeat in your video player will keep the frame up, but will also reset the audio playback every 1/25th of a second

what it sounds like you want really is an /mka/ file, which is the audio "version" of matroska, i don't think there's any technical difference from mkv, there's probably some standard flag or name you can use to tell a supported player to use an attachment as cover artwork

Yes, I'm using the latest mpv.
Changing the image to cover.jpg do nothing.
I can have either the sub+audio or the image+audio.

I've tried creating the mkv/mka first then adding the subtitle, but it didn't work.

>>
>>58242266
In a broader sense we have swaps because ram is limited, so sometimes using a vastly slower medium is necessary. Video cards have the ability to reserve system ram in case they need it. If that's what's happening in your case it probably just reserved way more than it needs, and you would want to change that.

>>
>>58242507
I'm not having issues with the cover art.
I'm having issues with the subtitles being displayed WITH the cover art.
I've checked my config, and commented everything yet it still didn't help.

The only possibility left is that subtitles can't be displayed when there is cover art.
>>
>>58242455
Meh, I don't wanna bother going back into the bios right now. If I actually only have 12 GB installed and it's the larger number it's showing me that's bogus then I'm not too worried. I was concerned that I had more than I was being allowed to use but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Seeing as I'm the not the original owner of this system the only way I'll know for sure exactly what's in here is by opening it up and looking at the sticks themselves. And this thing is on the floor under my desk and weighs a metric ton, so fuck that shit.

there's probably something more audio-playing-specific that'll do it
i only use mpv, i installed vlc just then because i saw it supported mkv cover art
no idea if vlc allows for subtitles on files it detects as audio-only, and mpv doesn't (seem to) do mkv cover art display

surely some audio players have such support for things like karaoke purposes
