Minor and/or irrelevant inquiries belong here.

I have never owned a touchscreen device in my life, but circumstances dictate that I do now.

I need a smartphone with only the five following requirements:

FM tuner (ie, not internet radio bullshit)
MicroSD slot
3.5mm audio
IPS panel or better
4.7" screen or smaller

I do not give a single fuck about irrelevant (and often unquantifiable) aspects such as status symbol, "processing speed", application support, camera quality, etc.

Assume carrier is irrelevant. Though, I have to ask, why is carrier relevant? Can I only buy phones that my carrier supports?

AFAIK I just buy a phone and put in a SIM card from my carrier and it'll work. Is this still true?

Some US carriers use different bandwidths, so it has to support it.

Is a laptop cooler worth buying?

No, it's fine. The RAM may wear out a little sooner, if it doesn't outlast the computer's usefulness. Or maybe not since the temperature will be more constant? You only need to reboot for updates and crashes.

>>58223531
I think so. Unhardware related, I used to do this with my old desktop and i noticed that windows would fuck up, pretending your mouse is hovering over an icon on the toolbar and always showing a preview of whatever window you moused over last, and some times even just crashing, taking out proper alt tab functionality with it.

I want to use an old Motorola razr v3 that I have here for my phone. However, I was wondering if I would be able to activate it with any network provider (most preferably MetroPCS, because that's what I have now). I searched online, and it uses the necessary GSM bands needed to be usable on the network, so I should be able to get it activated, right?

>AFAIK I just buy a phone and put in a SIM card from my carrier and it'll work. Is this still true?
No. Phones have different types of network. Two main are CDMA and GSM. GSM is what you're thinking of when you switch sims with other phones. CDMA are locked to the phone. Certain carriers do certain type. Sprint/Verizon do CDMA I think. Tmobile/Att do GSM type.

There's also bandwidth types, in US certain bandwidth frequency are used by certain protocols. LTE/HSDPA+/3g/4g/etc In China/Europe the frequency is different.

Most china phones support GSM simcards, and some might support LTE/HSDPA+/4G, even then the frequency might be different from one required by your carrier.

I'm trying out PS4 remote play on my PC for the first time at the moment.

I've got a PS4 Pro and it's connected to a 5GHz wifi network. I've got the Remote Play settings to 1080p and high framerate.

There is noticeable lag when using this.

Will I see a big improvement if I use a wired connection for my ps4, or will there be minimal difference compared with the 5ghz wifi?

is write endurance the most important aspect of buying an SSD? That was the biggest deal with competing HDD's and it's bizarre to me to see some SSD's that have low write endurance score higher in reviews than those that have less just because they have higher sequential or random speed or are more power efficient hur dur this one is 250mb/j which is much better than this 200mb/j drive so what if it craps out in half the time!

It doesn't really matter. Most non-chinkshit SSDs last for at least 100TB, you'd need to write 200GB every week for ten years to reach that amount. You'll swap your old SSD for a bigger one before reaching write caps.

My Android phone sets Facebook Messenger as the default SMS app on boot. When I try to change it back to Signal, I find that it is no longer listed as a messaging app on my phone.

I am unable to use the settings in either Facebook Messenger or Signal to make my phone recognise Signal.

My current solution is to back up my messages and re-install Signal. This is a pain to do because problems start up again on boot.

Unfortunately, uninstalling Messenger permanently is not an option due to social and family obligations, etc.

Did the cpu "die" or is that your guess?

Have you tested it with a different motherboard? What about different ram? Video card? Cables?

>What happens to a computer when the cpu dies?
People do few things, In scenario 1) First they figure out if the cpu actually "died" or not. Second they figure out what the actual issue is. Third they fix it. In scenario 2) First, they call tech support/repair person and ask for help. If that doesn't fix it, then they either sell the computer or throw it away. Then they buy a new computer.

my friend just recently got a 1070, and already had a 144hz 1080p monitor (no adaptive sync). it surprisingly (since it's 27" at 1080p) looked pretty good. I have a 1440p 60hz chink panel, and while it looks great, I think I prefer his setup a bit more, at least for fast paced games like Overwatch or CSS

if you can afford it, obviously aim for 144hz 1440p, but if you're into mostly fast paced games, 144hz is probably better than 1440p. 1440p is better for cinematic games and for productivity (I can easily have two tabs open at 1440p with virtually zero problems, whereas 1080p some stuff gets cramped)

Now where I'm at is I removed everything except Power, Mainboard and CPU. When I turn it on I hear this weird click. It's not from a fan, all of them are off.

I then did something I know you shouldn't do but whatever. I plugged the CPU Power off while it was running and the clicking stopped.

Does the problem lie in the Mainboard or the CPU now? Which one do I need to replace? I mean I suppose a CPU has nothing to click and I find nothing on any warning signal the Mainboard does.

The thing about CPU and Mainboard are both were bought used. I don't know what the problem is. I mean it ran for a bit.

Also I did a BIOS reset, didn't help.

Why do people buy 3rd party internet modems and do they improve internet performance/stability?

I'm using a NETGEAR CG3000v2 that my ISP gave me as default (Optus) with my cable plan. Unfortunately I get a lot of "micro" lag spikes of maybe a second-long whenever I play games like DotA and especially in Overwatch on a regular basis/rhythm. This doesn't happen if I hook up my computer with an ethernet cable to the modem instead. Internet speed is nearly the same whether I'm on WiFi or ethernet cable, its just this lag stuttering issue. Will a better modem fix this?
>>
>>58230914
They do.
>>
>>58230956
People buy modems in order to not pay to rent a modem. It's normal for games to lag on wireless. You seem to not know exactly what a modem is or where the demarcation point lies, so you should continue renting until you git gud.

I'm getting really bad youtube playback. the video stutters, drops frames, there is screen tearing - you name it. the only think I can think of is the new kaby lake i5 7200u that I'm using. I tried turning hardware acceleration off but it doesn't do anything. any ideas?
