All 5 GHz WiFi routers with external antennas for the 5 GHz bands.
2.4 GHz antennas are usually only internal.

Given that I live in the middle of nowhere with no interference, wouldn't it be wise to buy a 2.4 GHz only router with external antennas for better range?

Windows 10.

Recently I had to change my DNS to connect to a game server. I switched from the automatic ISP one, to the Google one.
The next day, I had no internet connection. I switched back to my ISP DNS, and I have connection again.
But then the next day my connection was offline again. I switched to Google DNS, and its okay again.

Basically for the last week I have to change my DNS setting daily to connect, and I have no clue why.
I did the ipconfig /dnsflush thing a few times. I tried rebooting the router and my PC and all that jazz.

I have no idea what might be causing it. Never had this before.

I woke up, boot my PC like everyday and BOTH my Ethernet and Sound don't work anymore for some reason.

The funny thing is I use the onboard ethernet, but an external soundcard. No, I didn't install anything and didn't open porn.avi.exe.

I tried reinstalling drivers (although I never needed them in the first place thanks to Windows driver detection), didn't help.

I eventually got the Ethernet working again by manually setting it to 100 Mbps instead of Auto negotiation.

Nothing for the soundcard yet though...

Built my first PC, BIOS tells my my memory and CPU are good, my GPU is working just fine. I'm trying to install Windows 10 64bit, but every time I boot past the boot manager it BSODs me, frequently with KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED when I try to move the mouse. Along with other BSOD messages, I've come to the conclusion that a driver is corrupted. I managed to halfway install the OS via safemode, but cannot complete installation in safemode. I can access command prompt. What are my options here for successfully installing Windows 10 and fixing this shit? I tried Microsoft support, but they just give me typical "I need a dump file, here's how to get one. (It requires the OS to be fully installed)".
Any help would be appreciated.

Both Ubuntu and Debian are reasonable choices if you want to get work done, instead of playing sysadmin. For instance, Donald Knuth, a titan of computer science, uses Ubuntu to work on his algorithm books.

However if you're interested in the lower level internals, then Debian derivatives are too complex at the beginning.

Long-standing problem with my Mac display. I'd appreciate some help. I know what /g/ thinks of Mac. I won't be buying again. The monitor operates only on the lowest brightness setting. It's been going down for the past year. I removed the glass and LCD screen to check inside if any connections were loose. But it looks fine. The GPU is fine, the power cables are fine, everything os connected fine. It's the monitor or the power unit in the processor. I don't know how to further troubleshoot this issue.

Are ultrawide monitors a meme? and if so, are they a good meme?

I'm running KDE Neon and I downloaded the greatest video player ever (that's mpv for you lonely virgins ;)) and I noticed that after I go full screen to watch a video, and then exit full screen, all my window decorations are gone. This makes the os unusable for me and I have to log off and log back in. This happens for every login session. Can someone explain why this is happening? I have the latest nvidia drivers installed.

My cpu and mobo randomly get hot out of nowhere, and it sometimes starts up hot.
Dont know what to do, do far ive tried flipping a few fans in my case, and opening a window and putting my case right under it so it gets cold by winter temps, but it still runs hot at random times.

Just recently cpu was ~40f and mobo was ~60f, then it randomly jumped up to 140+ for both, cpu fluctuating to 170 at times.

I got a new ssd a few months ago, I run my OS off of that, (win10, I'm a fag I know), sometimes at random intervals whenever I open maybe a game and chrome, or am loading YouTube or something, my computer will jump to 100% disk usage in task manager for about 40 seconds and nothing will work, then after that everything loads and the disk usage Is back to normal. 0. check if the required kernel module for your sound card is loaded (with lsmod)
1. check if you have alsa installed, enabled and it's init script loaded
2. run "alsactl init" as root to initialize your soundcard. Run alsamixer to see everything is OK
3. if you plan on using pulseaudio, install it and pavucontrol then run pavucontrol as normal user from GUI to see that everything is OK (output device is correct, nothing is muted, output set to something that matches your speaker configuration)
4. if you want to use just alsa and have a HDMI enabled card, then it might be that your HDMI audio output is the primary in alsa and not your sound card. In this case you have to re-order your sound cards, consult google or the /flt/

I've been having problem with programs showing up on task bar, but when I click on them they don't show up. It happened with task manager, programs and features, control panel and steam. Task bar shows they're running, but I cannot use them, I have to run steam on full screen mode. Somehow task manager returned to normal, but other programs haven't. I don't know to describe the problem in any other way, programs are running but I cannot use them.

I seem to have lost one of those rubber cooling tube covers whe nI was fiddling with my computer, assuming it's lodged in some hollow part of my case but is it safe to just close things up and leave it? I don't really want to have to take everything 100% apart to find this stupid thing but I am slightly worried that it might eventually move out of wherever it is and block my CPU fan or something.
