All 5 GHz WiFi routers with external antennas for the 5 GHz bands.
2.4 GHz antennas are usually only internal.

Given that I live in the middle of nowhere with no interference, wouldn't it be wise to buy a 2.4 GHz only router with external antennas for better range?
>>
>>57917795
Example, TP-Link Archer C7
The large external antennas are 5 GHz only
The small internal antennas are 2.4 GHz

It seems to me, if you want the best possible range, it's smarter to buy a router with 2.4 GHz external antennas only.

How much RAM is needed to host your own personal email server? Will a pi zero do, or is there something even smaller?

If it doesn't run out installing the OS, it will have enough for serving email to one user. You shouldn't, though, especially if you need to ask this. Residential connections don't have enough uptime for someething as critical as email, and you'll find ways to screw it up. Everyone on the other end is storing it on compromised systems, so none of your digital postcards will be private unless both of you are encrypting.
>>
>>57917938
Yes, you could use PCPartpicker to check if things fit too.

Windows 10.

Recently I had to change my DNS to connect to a game server. I switched from the automatic ISP one, to the Google one.
The next day, I had no internet connection. I switched back to my ISP DNS, and I have connection again.
But then the next day my connection was offline again. I switched to Google DNS, and its okay again.

Basically for the last week I have to change my DNS setting daily to connect, and I have no clue why.
I did the ipconfig /dnsflush thing a few times. I tried rebooting the router and my PC and all that jazz.

I have no idea what might be causing it. Never had this before.

get a router that supports openwrt and set your virginity router/modem to modem only.
>>
>>57918367
I'm pretty tech illiterate do all routers use coaxel cables and what's the difference between router mode and modem mode?
>>
>>57918382
no router uses coaxial cables, only cable modems do.
router mode makes it a router and a modem, so you don't need one yourself.
modem only mode makes it a modem so you can use your own router behind it without being double NATed

I've owned a 9800GTX before but sold it to a friend when I upgraded to a GTX650 a few years ago and am convinced of it's capabilities. Will a GTX280 offer a significant boost in performance over the 9800GTX+? They seem to have been released in the same year and in my experience models spread out within months or less offer a few FPS over the other.

It has springs. It doesn't "snap" on but it was definitely more rigid than it is now. more like a "stuck" feel. I was using it as a handle while I positioned the board into place. I woke up, boot my PC like everyday and BOTH my Ethernet and Sound don't work anymore for some reason.

The funny thing is I use the onboard ethernet, but an external soundcard. No, I didn't install anything and didn't open porn.avi.exe.

I tried reinstalling drivers (although I never needed them in the first place thanks to Windows driver detection), didn't help.

I eventually got the Ethernet working again by manually setting it to 100 Mbps instead of Auto negotiation.

Nothing for the soundcard yet though...

Why do inkjet fucking printer shits still exist?

Two cartridges are worth more than you've paid for the whole device, printheads dry up, wastepads fill up, ink fucking spills, overly complicated cogs break constantly.
Now compare it to the T60 of printers - HP LaserJet 1020. Toner with drum - 12 bucks. Fuser film - 10 bucks. Paper pickup roller - $1, nothing else will ever break, because there's not that much in there to begin with. You can get a perfectly good used one for 50 dollarydoos. New inkjet is is 100.

Built my first PC, BIOS tells my my memory and CPU are good, my GPU is working just fine. I'm trying to install Windows 10 64bit, but every time I boot past the boot manager it BSODs me, frequently with KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED when I try to move the mouse. Along with other BSOD messages, I've come to the conclusion that a driver is corrupted. I managed to halfway install the OS via safemode, but cannot complete installation in safemode. I can access command prompt. What are my options here for successfully installing Windows 10 and fixing this shit? I tried Microsoft support, but they just give me typical "I need a dump file, here's how to get one. (It requires the OS to be fully installed)".
Any help would be appreciated.

You're breaking on the inner loop (y) but not the outer loop. If you only want to change the very first value you need to jump out of both loops, not just your inner y loop but also the outer x loop. Using "break" only jumps out of the inner-most loop.

USB 2.0 typically maxes out at about 30-35 MB/s. An optimal controller could reach 40 MB/s in theory. However I have never seen that in real life.
I suspect it's USB 3 and the drive is just that slow. Search the Internet for benchmarks for your specific hard drive model (on SATA).

Both Ubuntu and Debian are reasonable choices if you want to get work done, instead of playing sysadmin. For instance, Donald Knuth, a titan of computer science, uses Ubuntu to work on his algorithm books.

However if you're interested in the lower level internals, then Debian derivatives are too complex at the beginning.
Arch and even Gentoo are simpler at their core.

Reference: I have used Gentoo and Debian for years at home, Ubuntu at work. Nowadays I use Debian unstable for personal desktops, Debian stable for servers, and Ubuntu LTS or Debian stable for work desktops.
>>

On Linux, the "lsusb" can tell you if it's USB 3 or USB 2. Not sure about Windows.

>>57923640
Found this and it made me laugh

You need two splitters.

- 2 x RCA Male, 1 x 3.5mm Stereo Female cable
- 3.5mm Male to 2 RCA Female Splitter Cable

Plug your headphones into the 3.5mm female end of a 2 x RCA Male, 1 x 3.5mm Stereo Female cable. Also, get a 3.5mm Male to 2 RCA Female Splitter Cable. Plug the first cable's white male connector into the second cable's red female connector, and the first cable's red male connector into the second cable's white female connector. Then plug the second splitter's 3.5mm end into the headphone or speaker out jack on your PC.

Voltage is the same, but the hyperX has a higher timing speed. Should I underclock it to the same timing speed in bios, or can I use one stick of the Team with the rest of the hyperX without any worries?

Well, there's your problem, Anon!

No, but seriously, your inverter is probably broken or dying.
An inverter is a thing between the power cables and the monitor itself that converts the power between AC and DC.
If it's dying or dead, your screen will be getting darker until it's eventually impossible to see.

Lol, ok but I can't help with this. I don't use Firefox. When I did, it was so fucking terrible. The only browser I've used worse than FF was Opera.

anon you need to learn to troubleshoot.

when your internet "goes out", see if you can ping 8.8.8.8 - if so the internet isn't down.

to troubleshoot DNS is quiet simple, nslookup. See what nslookup does and does not resolve, keep in mind of the cache so try sites you never visit... purple.com or something.

using nslookup you can temporarily (for the length of the session) to query other DNS servers by simply typing "server x.x.x.x" and all future queries in that session will be checked against it -- without changing the adapters DNS settings. Again check DNS resolution and compare to the resolutions between your server and your ISPs.

Does your internet go out or does your DNS resolution suck ass?

I'm willing to bet you will find it's win10 "feature" and simply refreshing the settings on the adapter fixes your problem.

You probably need to restamp GRUB to the boot sector.
You may also want to switch Windows 8 to Legacy Boot mode.

Use the keyboard shortcut Winkey+X to open the Quick Access menu (shown in this previous tip)
In the Quick Access menu, select “Command Prompt (Admin)”
Say “Yes” to the UAC challenge
A command window will open
Enter this command: bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
Note that there are curly brackets around the parameter “default”, not the usual parentheses.

What kind of programming language/libraries in said language to draw images?
Something like generating a line based on a pattern in a loop like those spirographs would be an end goal.

Would writing a program to draw a saveable image be easier than say writing a script to control my mouse to do the same actions in a normal painting program?

Anyone know about setting up speakers for your pc?

I'm thinking of getting a pair of Micca PB42X, but before I do I need to know how setups work. Do I need an amp? What cables do I need? RCA? etc

Maybe you have a source for this info? I've looked on google but everyone seems to have different setups going on, I just want to connect these to my pc

The speaker that contains the Amp takes your RCA of choice and the other speaker is connected to the first using standard speaker wire. If there isn't any included, any hardware or electronics store should have it by the foot/ yard.

Do get an SSD if you can afford it (put the old hdd in a USB case for portable drive), and don't buy windows if you can avoid it.

1st partition for windows
2nd partition for storage and programs that can work in a new windows without reinstallation (games for example)
You can always shrink the 2nd partition if you decide to install gahnoo slash loonix later.

>install arch

#justarchlinuxthings

0. check if the required kernel module for your sound card is loaded (with lsmod)
1. check if you have alsa installed, enabled and it's init script loaded
2. run "alsactl init" as root to initialize your soundcard. Run alsamixer to see everything is OK
3. if you plan on using pulseaudio, install it and pavucontrol then run pavucontrol as normal user from GUI to see that everything is OK (output device is correct, nothing is muted, output set to something that matches your speaker configuration)
4. if you want to use just alsa and have a HDMI enabled card, then it might be that your HDMI audio output is the primary in alsa and not your sound card. In this case you have to re-order your sound cards, consult google or the /flt/

Tech pleb here.
I've been having problem with programs showing up on task bar, but when I click on them they don't show up. It happened with task manager, programs and features, control panel and steam. Task bar shows they're running, but I cannot use them, I have to run steam on full screen mode. Somehow task manager returned to normal, but other programs haven't. I don't know to describe the problem in any other way, programs are running but I cannot use them.
