558s

Anon fucked up

I generally don't reply to in hpg because everyone here has terrible choices and tastes in headphones, DACs, and amps.

Hd800s are terrible
He 598s and 558s are also terrible.

Get a pair of HD 600s or HD 580s
>>
What's the consensus on these? Worth $100 or am I better off getting something SHP9500's or 558's if I want an open back headphone $100 and under?
>>
>>57854818
>Hifiman build quality
>when there are literally a dozen better dynamics out there
>>
>>57854818
The consensus is that you shouldn't buy headphones that haven't been measured.
>>
I've been trying to research what matters when it comes to headphones and I'm a bit confused at the types of sounds. Why would you want something other than a neutral sound?

Is this based on the types of music you enjoy?

Thanks.
>>
>>57852648
kill yourself
>>
>>57855189
Meme question, but anyways:
We percieve low frequencies with our entire upper body, something that headphones simply can't replicate. Therefor the taste for elevation of bass varies very much and you either like "neutral no bass" or "boomy nigger bass".

Tuning headphones for accurate spatial representation through diffuse field correction always results in piercing treble, most prominently seen in the eardildo company beyerdynamic and the Sennheiser HD 800.

Everything else is basically just you randomly listening to headphones and thinking "this is fun" or "this is kinda off, but I can't put my finger on it".

Also, if you are older you will enjoy treble boost due to hearing loss etc.
>>
>>57855271
Thanks. I'll probably try something neutral then, IIRC you can send stuff back to amazon.
>>
>>57855114
Supposedly they're comparable to HE300's.

My current Logitech G930s have a tendency to crackle and distort a little during bassy songs/explosions in games, etc. So something that doesn't do this would be excellent

Logitech G930 atm, generic cheap headsets before that.

Trying to decide between Fidelio X2 and AKG K712 Pro. The former seem to have much better build quality and materials. Sound is a matter of tastes but how do they compare with a decent amp?
>>
about to cop dt770 80 ohm, am I making a huge misstake?
>>
>>57855956
i had both

i settled with hifiman he-400i für 340€

if you want a comparison. the k712 is more neutral and plays a bit demanding on dynamics but has a little greater soundstage.

the x2 has a fun signature, sounds good with all kinds of songs, but damn those are heavy in comparison (380g vs 235g)

you could say if you want analytical sound, get k712 pro, if you want to stay more on the musical side, x2
>>
>>57855956
K7XX, the 712 is the worst of AKGs 700 series
>>
>>57856026
Not at all.
>>
>>57856042
with playing demanding on dynamics, i mean that the soundquality depends heavily on the mastering quality of the song
>>
>>57856026
beware that trebble spike though. it can be uncomfortable for certain ears
>>
>>57856042
How are the HIFIMAN build quality and comfort wise? I made a quick glance and they seem to be kinda filmsy (I don't want a Snapheiser variant!). They're also considerably more expensive here in Europe (500 vs 215 (AKG) and 250-295 (X2) for that price I'd rather spend a bit more and get DT 1990 PRO.

>>57856043

I read quite a lot and it seems that K712 are universally considered to be the best of the bunch, interesting.

i bought the 400i used on german ebay-kleinanzeigen.de.

the comfort is better than on fidelio x2 and akg k712 pro in my opinion

it has this mixture of velour and leather padding to seal the sound better but still feel comfortable resting on your skin.

the hinge is the most comfortable i ever used in my opinion.

also the 400i is much more open, you could say sounds goes in as it goes out, it doesn't seal for shit where as the x2 and k712 pro block like 20% sound from both directions

the buildquality is on par with the x2 i'd say. the akg k712 pro actually has better buildquality i think
>>
>>57856256
Thanks m8. I'll look into them.
>>
>>57856286
Which AKG would you recommend then?

>>57856307
I'm not a big fan of used stuff, I have looked at prices (I usually order from Germany due to low VAT tax and thus prices) but even there they're going on for 500+. That's a different price range so I don't think the comparison is fair.

Your remark about K712 quality is interesting, they look like cheap plastic and the comical orange band doesn't help. X2 seem to be built like a tank and with good materials.

don't overestimate philips design engineering.. they have a good sense of planned obsolescence

you see the screw which holds the cup into place? it's same on the x2

it's made of a plastic type which dries out over a period of time and becomes more senstive against fractures over time.

i dropped my fidelio x1 in 30cm distance and it snapped..

i then proceeded to tell philips, send it in and got x2 though for free lol
>>
>>57852698
NP m8, I'm sure you will enjoy them, and hopefully you wont keep digging further into the rabbit hole
>>
>>57853024
They fancy, but so damn expensive.
>>
>>57856497
Be more careful next time nigger, I checked my screw and thick as fuck plastic, yes plastic since the cup is fucking plastic. If it was metal the whole outer shell would break which has the double layer isolation shit....
>>
>>57856694
depends on what you prioritise.. my complete computer desk equipment is worth 3000€ as of now.. i don't own a car though

>>57856803
yeah this is what makes the x2 so fragile in this regard.. the shock will be absorbed solely through 2 fragile plastic screws
>>
>>57857044
Well if they ever break, its an easy fix, drill a very short screw there instead. Fixed. Unlike snapheisers where the whole frame breaks...
>>
>>57857102

the screw will snap in half.. the one half stuck in the cup. the other half will fall out of the socket

you need a fitting screw and it will look like shit
>>
>>57857160
Do Fidelios break like that commonly though? It can't be as bad as Snapheisers.
>>
Is a v or u shaped sound signature recommended for music listening?
I like to hear the very high an very low notes in my music, but I don't know if having these signatures will turn it into nigger bass or ear penetration.

According to >>57855271 beyerdynaic and sennheiser make ear-rape headphones, yet I see them being recommended elsewhere. What's up with this?
>>
>>57857179
well i just asked me the same.. many results come up with a problem called "loose screws"..

probably because these screws unscrew themselves due to their purpose.. the drainage is changing their size and forcing them so unscrew over time i guess
>>
>>57857212
Why not just... screw them back in if they get loose? That's what happens to about anything that uses screws and moves a lot, such as glasses. Unless there's something preventing it.
>>
>>57857239
so i read further down the line..

those are fake screws. it's just a plastic pole which reaches inside of the cup.

The important attribute I'm looking for is wireless. I've rejected them on sight before, so I don't really know what I'm looking for in terms of a good connection and battery life and such, but lately the presence of a cord really bothers me. The HyperX set is perfectly fine for when I’m going to sit in one place for a couple hours or chatting on Skype, and the choice it gives between a short cable or a long one is awesome, but I want something I can wander around a room and do chores and stuff while wearing.

I'm not enough of an audiophile for high end to make much difference. So long as I'm not getting distortion listening to music of varying genres, explosions, moans, and nature sounds, and no one else can listen to what I'm listening to, I'm good.

Sorta unrelated,

Wanna buy a pair of ELAC B6's but I am having a hell of a time finding a stereo amp to drive them.

These'll be sitting right next to my computer monitor, so any audible hiss is an absolute no-go.

Does anyone know of any good stereo amps?

Whenever I look up 'best of' lists they all include $5000 amps.... I'm looking to spend $200 or so.

good for the price, treat them somewhat delicately and they'll last you a while. been using them for years now and they handle all sorts of music well
>>
My understanding is that if an amp gives 40 watts per channel at 8 ohm, it'll give ~60 WPC at 6 ohm.

So if I buy a 40 WPC at 8 ohm amp, would it be okay to use it to drive speakers with a nominal power of 50 WPC at 6 ohm?

My understanding is that the amp'll run hot because it's pushing more current, but will anything get damaged doing that? Or do I need a more powerful amp?

Silicon tips. The metal shell with its sharp lines, while aesthetic, is just not comfortable compared to the Shure or Westone design.

I've heard conflicting reviews. Some say the sound quality is great, others say it's shit. Some say there is too little bass or too much treble, others don't. Some say comfy, others not. Etc.

Get 558's, and foam mod them

>would it be okay to use it to drive speakers with a nominal power of 50 WPC at 6 ohm?
Sure.
>but will anything get damaged doing that
Power is power, and the efficiency and waste heat from the amp will be reflected as such. It would be a bit less efficient into low impedance loads, not really a key issue. Should probably worry more about what your amplifier can actually output.

I have a studio shed with AC and the works just 10 feet from the main house. It's insulated so I don't hear traffic but I can still here a conversation on the other side of the door. Main purpose is so I can smoke cigarettes and swear at my screen without bothering the missus.

I would use it for work conference calls and talking to clients when I'm off hours. I mostly work logistics. I would also use it for gaymen.

I've originally used headsets but my last one died I got fed up with it pressing against my glasses. I'm committed to a mic and earbud setup now. They're a retarded choice for outside headphones though. They're massive, non-removable cable and only lay flat, no folding mechanism.
You also look like a retarded kid wearing those oversized headphones. They're inside headphones for people who need closed backs because of noise but still want great sound

I only wear over ears outside now.

just came here to say that I bought a USB mixer instead of a regular DAC because of /g/ and I am incredibly happy with it
The Scarlett 2-input was my next choice but I'm sure it would've been nothing like this flexible, comfy, do-everything DAC
It's only 16-bit 44KHz, but it's so much more useful, and the EQ sound great, I like it more than my last crappy alesis dac
>>
>>57875505
Careful, just because it doesn't bother me doesn't mean it'll be good for you too. I've heard some people say they can't stand the 770's treble.

Bought a pair of ER4-XR's for mixing. So far, they're amazing. Also have a pair of UE TripleFi Pro 10's but I'm in the market for another IEM which is similar to the TripleFi's "fun" sound. Someone recommended the IE8's.

SHP9500 and buy a v-moda boompro mic so you have a headset and actually give it a try so you dont automatically return to the hyperx, you´ll spend i think like 100 dollars
>>
>>57876664
Honestly for a budget of only $150, you're not going to be looking at anything much better, if at all. It's pretty much a dead range where the only improvements you're getting are looks/comfort. $200-250 is where you'll start seeing proper improvements.

Stick with your Clouds for a while. They're a good headphone.

Nothing inherently wrong with Sennheiser, much like every other headphone brand. It's just shitposters being shitposters. That said, Momentum's have quite a heavy clamp, which ruins the comfort. They're designed for outdoor use. You can get better closed hadphones that aren't.
>>

I don't mind that too much since that's %50 of my listening time. So they're good aside from that? I'll also read up some other reviews of course.

Hey guys, so I bought my first pair of good headphones and realized that I need an amp to use them. I kind of thought it was optional but I guess not, pretty embarrassing.

So uhm, what amp would you recommend for the DT770 250? What should I be looking for? Any input would be appreciated.

Micca Origen+
Best features and sound out of anything below a Schiit Stack/O2+ODAC
FiiO E10k for a safe buy, but lacks in features.
SMSL M3 for E10k tier but cheaper and a few more features.

If you've got the money, get the Origen+. It's well worth the money if you're not planning on upgrading to Schiit/Objective gear.
