K712, ignore the golden ears who rage about its "colored response", most people's hearing has more variation than it does. They're comfy as fuck and they sound fantastic.

I'm not enough of an audiophile for high end to make much difference. So long as I'm not getting distortion listening to music of varying genres, explosions, moans, and nature sounds, and no one else can listen to what I'm listening to, I'm good.

The big thing is that I want to get a wireless set. I've rejected them on sight before, but lately the presence of a cord really bothers me. The HyperX set is perfectly fine for when I’m going to sit in one place for a couple hours or chatting on Skype, and the choice it gives between a short cable or a long one is awesome, but I want something I can wander around a room and do chores and stuff while wearing.

They compare well to M40x. Stock pads are better too, but the headphone doesn't fold or have a removable cable. Clouds are built better as well. Take that as you will.

Cable is well braided though, so I can't see it breaking easily, and even then its a fucken cable. EZ fix if you know how to solder.

Hell, slap some HM5's and do a removable cable mod, and you've got a lifelong headphone.

I currently have a shit set of headphones. Want to get better ones.

Took a look at some guides, leaning toward Status CB-1 or NVX Perfect 10.

Budget is <$100.
Location is Hamburgistan.
Source is laptop or phone (depends on location).
Type: Over-ear closed fullsized,
Comfort level: as /comfy/ as possible. I hate the pressure on my ears.
Sound signature: bassy or v-shaped is preferable.
Past headphones: some shitty <$30 set (hurts my ears like hell), and Sennheiser HD-202s. Liked the Sennheisers, but they were flimsy and the cord was way too long to exercise with.

Any suggestions one way or another?
>>
reccing beyerdynamic custom one pro plus, ive had them for about 8 months and they're really good
>>
>>57846839
>NVX Perfect 10
God, I forget how retarded NVX is with names

Either way, the XPT-100 is a very neutral headphone. That said, apparently they've gone down in quality according to a lot of people recently. I'd get the Brainwavz HM5 over the XPT-100 just as safety measure.
Not sure about the CB-1, but from just reading quickly they seem to be a bit more V-Shaped
Another option would be M40x + HM5 pads. Slight V-shape but still fairly neutral for a closed can.

All good options though
>>
>>57846839
>>Location is Hamburgistan.
So... Germany, or the US? If you're 'murrican, Hamburg is an actual place, you fucking retard, and you meant Burgerstan
>>
>>57846864
Can second this. I prefer them to my DT770's just because the highs are slightly less sibilant. Stock pads are less breathable but give a slightly punchier and faster sound. Sub is better too. Swap the pads onto 770's and you get the same effect tho.

Also they look fucking god tier.
>>
>>57846912
>you fucking retard
not denying it.
I'm from the US, though.
>>57846909
Thanks for the recs. The M40x seems to be really good. Why get the HM5 pads, though? Are the stock pads uncomfortable?
Again, thanks, you've been quite helpful.
>>
>>57846941
>Why get the HM5 pads, though? Are the stock pads uncomfortable?
You got it right on. Stock pads on M40x/M50x are some of the worst stock pads you can get, especially for their price.
The only pads i've used that are worse are on cheap superlux, which they make up for on insane price to performance ratio.

You probably won't /hate/ them if you've never used anything comfortable, but once you put anything with nice large circumaural pads, stock M40x are ruined.

I know there are many people already asking for recommendations, so I'll just ask:
Does anyone know where I can find some good quality headphones in New Zealand? It seems we don't stock a lot of the /g/ recommended brands here. If there's a small shop that stocks them somewhere, I'd be grateful.

Might as well also dump this, in case anyone wants to help:

>Budget
$165 as a hard limit for the budget.
>Location
Shopping in NZ. Pricespy.co.nz is a popular price comparing site, as is nz.pcpartpicker.com. Currency is in NZD, which is around half the strength of the euro or USD.
>Source
PC use only. No dedicated sound card in my tower, just the motherboard one.
>Full sized or IEM
Full sized
>Open vs Closed
No preference so long as my music isn't leaking out loudly to other people. I don't care about isolation from outside noise. Soundscapes are new to me, and something I've never thought about, so while having a good soundscape would be nice, it's not at all a priority. If choosing between isolation and soundscape, I'd chose a better soundscape.
>Comfort level
It's a luxury that I'll trade for better sound quality, freq range or other technical advantages. I won't be wearing these for hours on end. Mainly for music, with a tiny bit of gaming and video watching on the side. I can leave them off the rest of the time, hence the low priority of comfort.
>Sound signature
My favorite music is tracks from musicals. I love to hear the very high vocals and low instruments more than anything. So I'd like a v-shaped or possibly u-shaped signature. If another signature is better suited toward this, please do tell me. Sound signatures are also new to me.

What do you think of this?
>>
>>57848132
it's old, uses compensated graphs for judgement and has a poor scoring system with nonsensical targets
>>
>>57847866
It costs about $20 as well where I live. Good sources say that the newer batches of the Superlux HD681 Evo Mk II are all much inferior quality, the sound being muddy and nowhere near the original batches which had the rave bang-for-the-buck reviews. I saw a recommendation fot the ISK KP-580 as a new similarly priced, but better (in light of the Superlux quality drop) alternative.

And yes, with all the stupid red the cans look butt-ugly. But I could suffer that if they are comfortable and sound good enough (would be for home use anyway).
>>

I think they're the best for that price. You could also try AKGs but they're bright and probably have even less bass than the 598.

Open backs don't really have much bass. The ones that do have are either pricey like the Fidelio X2 or the ear piercing DT990 which has fantastic bass if you can handle the treble

Coming off the ATH-M50's I don't think I'd wanna move on to another pair of headphones that have sharp intense highs, part of why I'm sick of these, everything is too loud.

558 are a better deal, they have better mids and more bass and not lacking in bass since that is already taken by the SHP9500

M40x with HM5 pads [they NEED the pads]
Beyer Custom One Pros [you'll have to import. Some reason minidisc and storedj and other AU retailers overprice them to fuck. I got mine for $160 kangabucks]
Brainwavz HM5
DT 770

HM5 for neutrality
M40x for /slight/ V-shape
Beyer COP's for anything from slight V-shape to mud-valley, depending on where you set the port selector. [second and third are the only worthwhile ones]
DT 770 for heavy V-shape with quite present highs. Similar to COP's halfway between setting 3-4.

>>
>>57849991
So are the 558's supposed to be an even mode budget version of the 598's or are they just a more modern equivalent of the headphone?

Cause of course they're cheaper, but I'm reading that a lot of people find they sound just as good, I think I've even heard they have the exact same driver.

They're going for pretty cheap right now so I'm considering taking the bite.
>>
>>57850012
>So are the 558's supposed to be an even mode budget version of the 598's or are they just a more modern equivalent of the headphone?
Neither. They are same generation. Its just marketing and prices that makes people think 598 > 558 > 518.

>Cause of course they're cheaper, but I'm reading that a lot of people find they sound just as good, I think I've even heard they have the exact same driver.
It depends on your tonal preference, but the sound quality is the same. Same driver, nearly identical enclosure. Only real difference is colour, some dampening in the cup, and different headband padding [and earpads on the 518]. Get 558's, and then later if you feel they're lacking in the highs, just do the foam mod where you remove the foam dampening from inside the cup. They're essentially 598's at that point.

>They're going for pretty cheap right now so I'm considering taking the bite.
Do it. I personally preferred my 598's but only because of me being used to sharper highs. 558's immense warmth and sound-stage is fantastic.
Hell, I'm even considering buying a cheap pair of 518's and modding them to be nearly the same.

I guess you havent heard them, I have. They are insane, its not like holy shit need to sell my soul to Senn but if I won the lottery Id get them (and lots of other extreme high ends too). They are at the pinnacle of headphones, but they cost too much, the Focals are very, very good also. It has been too long though to compare directly.
>>
>>57851950
Theres lots of K702 and k7xx users that are pleased with their headphones but they always admit Senn is a little better.

I have no doubt the 702 is ok, I have heard them, but they dont reach the next tier due to their low resolution and too much airy quality.

why is reddit so hot on shilling their garbage AKG headphones?
>>
>>57852066
Yes I know, hard to believe, but I was at an expo so I was able to hear them there, a lot of my relatives work in the audioworld so one of them got me a listen to them. It was much briefer than I wanted (1 song only since he wanted to listen to them himself) but it sounded damn good.

What are some good eartips
I am currently using some relatively cheap foam tips i got off amazon. They work really well but the number of times a day i seem to be taking them in and out the fact i have to compress them each time means they seem to have a relatively short life span.

What tips does /g/ recommend ?
>>

the K553 pro might look the same as the K550 but the K553 pro is much better than the K550

dude if I adjust it this way, it feels off instantly, i just develop a feeling that the sound is off balance after a couple of seconds of listening to music

What are some good headphones for the 150 price range? Are the HD598 any good?
>>
>>57852702
go up to 120
there is a massdrop to some fairly good ones for 119$ and I don't think you are going to get better than that for closed back.

also, because I dont have them yet, cant tell you about iems, but there may be something worth getting for sub 10$
>>
>>57852925
get wired iem, possibly blue tooth, but honestly don't know of any good ones, headphones will just fall off and need adjustment unless they are tight, and that's uncomfortable.
>>
>>57853208
I like them, both color and feel have access to "better" ones, but the only difference I can hear is the deeper bass on the closed back.
>>
>>57844287

>>

I never mentioned anything about this and no, that's not resolution. If you are going to mention that resolution is a technical term, you probably think you know how it can be quantified. I'll repeat: resolution is not a measurement of headphone performance.

tfw people say the AD2000x have no bass, but they have nicer bass than 600s. They have more sub-bass but less mid-bass, and it's of higher quality. Plus you get the god tier vocals

These are definitely my favourite headphones so far.
