Does anyone actually like staggering?

Maybe I'm too much of a gamer not enough of a typist, but the staggering of the zxc row makes it really fucking annoying and difficult to hit keys like z and x while keeping some of your fingers on movement keys.

I will never stop drooling over that keyboard, godamn that's beautiful.
>>
>>57734746
>I have the feeling it's clears, but I still don't know.

any board with clears will cost you more than 100€

maybe a kul-es 87 / code keyboard
won't but then again you'll want to buy caps
>>
where can i get i caps for my model m?
>>
>>57734762
That seems like a good option. Either way, I won't spend more than 20 or 30 bucks to find out my favorite switch before investing on a >100$ keyboard.

When I'm sure of my favorite switch, I might even spend up to 200. I trust that a keyboard on this price bracket will last a long time, am I correct?
>>
Hey guys, the "B" key on my zalman k500 acts weird. Sometimes it works and sometimes id doesnt. I already tried to blow with a can of compressed air thinking it might have some dust in the switch but no luck. It doesnt look like anything is bad on the pcb. Could it be a cold solder?

>>
>>57734851
>I trust that a keyboard on this price bracket will last a long time, am I correct?

cheap chink keyboards from the 90s still work.

if anything, it's easier for a membrane keyboard to live long (although the cup rubbers become mushy) than a mech.

with all those mechanical parts, the risk of a switch giving up is almost sure within 10 years

>>57734988
Yeah I see . Still seems to mess up basic keybinds. For myself anyhow. But whatever works for each is all good
>>
>>57734896
That's why I'm really cautious about buying an expensive keyboard. They all die at some point, might as well buy a decent 60-80€ keyboard that lasts me maybe 6 years than spend 300€ for something that doesn't get to be 10.

>>57734932

how the hell do you faggots decide on switch type?

do you just take the plunge on a keyboard and convince yourself you love the switch?

I can't decide between clears and nature whites, I've only ever tried blues.

I might end up getting that topre rgb if it ever comes back in stock
>>
>>57735045
just get topre right away so you dont end up with 10 other keyboards and no money
>>
>>57734756
the extra legibility from the color layout is great for one handed typing, main reason why I got those caps

Hi, about a year ago I bought a pretty decent keyboard ( Tt eSPORTS KB-PZR-KBBRUS-01 POSEIDON Z RGB Gaming Keyboard - Brown Switch Edition)
After a few months the fucking LED's started malfunctioning and about 3 weeks ago the keyboard buttons started to press them selves twice.
It said I had an 5 year warranty but this company is complete ass and wont process my RMA (its been two weeks)
So, im thinking about buying from a larger company, such as corsair
Its on sale for 130$ right now, worth it? http://www.corsair.com/en-us/strafe-rgb-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-cherry-mx-brown

You know, I feel like I've got a bit of a debt to this place because I introduced Queerbait that is the autism of mechanical keyboards and unleashed him upon this thread. Now he owns tons of keyboards and shitposts constantly, so I feel like I should at least check up here every once and a while to see how it's going. >They have to have some good aspects.
Such as? The more expensive price? the increase in wobble? I don't think they're necessarily bad, and I enjoy using them, but when you can have something better for cheaper there's no reason to buy them.

The only thing I could think of is the convenience of not having to mod the switch, but if you're custom building a keyboard I don't know why that would be a problem anyway.

Let's look at the costs:
- 10 pack of x10 Cherry Clear switches = $50.00
- 100x Cherry MX 24K Gold Plated Springs = $19.00
- Free shipping (depends on location, and where you are ordering.)
Total: $69.00

- (Pre-Order) R4 Purple Zealios x100 = $100.00
- Shipping = $15 at least
Total: $115.00

Got a couple questions mates.

1. Do Cherry Brown switches feel different to Blues?

2. If so, is it because it's mechanically impossible to replicate the Blue's feel without also including the mechanism which produces the click, or are their differences in feeling an active choice by Cherry?
>>
>>57733712

I have a Pro JP Type-S but the layout is the same as pic related.
Many keys are like the 2 key; they have a legend that does not match what the key does.
pic related is about the legends
It is possible in keyboard settings in Windows to change this so that shift+2 makes " but I prefer the ANSI layout.
The 2 key matches the Japanese 101/102 layout in legends.

>>

How to make the legends match in Windows 10 (meme edition), but I wouldn't do it.
1. search for "change input methods"
2. options
3. add an input method
4. japanese
you are done
When your computer restarts it will default to the ANSI (or whatever layout you were using previously) so if you delete the ANSI one it will make the Japanese one default.
You can add the ANSI one after deleting it and when your machine restarts so you can swap between the two layouts but the JIS/102 key layout will be default.

Absolutely. I can't compare it to other chinaboards since it's the only one I had my hands on, but it's a solid keyboard. Doesn't have any fancy bells and whistles such as full programmability or fancy-ass lighting, but for a basic keyboard with a comfy layout, it's a very good choice.

1. Yes.
2. Conscious choice. Like sand in Reds. If you want blue without the noise, clears are a good alternative. There is still a good amount of noise, however. If you want really quiet, you can go with Matias Quiet Clicks, or go linear with Reds. I am currently using an HHKB and have modded it with dental bands in the past and it was nearly silent.

so far, no. Though I've only given it three tries so far. I feel like it'd be easier to just 3D print a mold and to cast your keycaps instead since getting tolerances right with the inside of the stems hasn't worked out very well so far.

That being said, I'll try some more stuff once my ABS filament arrives tomorrow. I feel like it should be possible, at worst with some after-printing finishing on the stem.
Expect to see preliminary results over the next few days.

Anyone here know much about/ever used a zowie celeritas keyboard?

Looking for a black board with cherry reds and this one is only $122AUD. Cheapest is a coolermaster for $109AUD but not sure on the quality of either board.

Previously had a filco majestouch w/ reds that wore out over the course of 2 years or so, and a leopold with browns that did the same, looking for red switches and prefer full format, tried TKL and don't like not having the numpad despite it fitting on my desk easier. Lights not necessary, I can touch type and don't game in the dark.

Current board is a ducky one TKL with cherry greens. Want to make the swap back to reds. This board is great for typing, but for gaming it's distracting and too stiff.

MP keyboards are basically a $5 rubber dome keyboard, but they took out the membranes and replaced them with outemu switches. It has very basic build quality and a Kaihua is a better deal since it has a back light, double shot key caps, and one of the better chink knockoff switches, and its only 5 bucks more if you use the coupon code Kaihua25

I've used a model M for years, but I'd like to treat myself to something new and nice (and USB). I'm thinking about using WASDkeyboards to order something custom, does anyone have experience with them?

From my googling it looks like Cherry Green is most like the feel of a model M, can anyone attest to that?
>>
>>57744483
cherry switches don't feel very much like buckling springs. the greens are probably the closest you will get, but it's not going to feel like your model m

the wasdkeyboards are pretty decent keyboards, but their keycaps aren't the greatest. you do get custom printing, but they're cheap ABS plastic that wears off quickly. if you're looking to get one of their keyboards, it's better to order a barebones board and get nicer caps from elsewhere

also if you just want a new keyboard that's similar to your current keyboard, why not get a new unicomp model m? they have usb and are fairly priced

idk but here's what I want:

I work for Best Buy Mobile and our register computers use these old IBM mechanical keyboards that have less of a "click" and more of a "clack" or "clunk." Basically it's a heavy switch without a lot of high end to the sound, which are my two main preferences (heavy and not clicky)

>>57744483
the problem is that buckling springs are the only switch in witch the tactile and clicky feedback happen at the exact moment of actuation. No other switch does this, but if you want you can get really tactile and clicky switches like matias and greens. The other thing is that your model M has some of the best keycaps ever made on a modern keyboard. As for wasd, they use some really cheap printing and it wears out easily (pic related). If you like their looks then get a barebones one and replace the keycaps with something similar in quality to yours. Ideally thick PBT dye-sub would be the closest, but doubleshot ABS is fine
>>
>>57744973
Maybe because the popularity of the "clicky" noise of the blues? And that many youtubers use blues or atleast talk about them, I guess it could be about the band wagon hate than actually preference
>>
>>57744821

Honestly I hate the Unicomp branding so much.
>>
Should I get o rings and what do the different types do. Is bottoming out bad for the switch? I love hammering down on keys but it's loud
>>
>>57744841
Those are IBM rubber domes, not mechanical. The ideal switch for you then is a Topre or their clones, but good luck finding any of those for 50 bucks. For cheap 60% mechanical keyboard your only options are the Chinese. there is a black friday deal on mechanicalkeyboards on the rk61, which is also bluetooth and around 50 bucks. You also have the magiforce 68 on amazon
>>
>>57745140
o rings help dampen the down stroke. The thicker they are the more the dampen. There are also harder and softer ones if you feel like bottoming out is hurting your fingers
>>
>>57744973
People hate browns because their tactility is so low pressing them with any decent amount of force makes them feel like badly made reds. There's a reason enthusiasts started taking clears and putting weaker springs in them instead of using browns.
>>
>>57744821

Blacks are the most produced mechanical switch, they even come on our cash registers. But since you want a 60% finding one for 50 bucks is hard. blacks are linear, have a similar actuation force to rubber domes and offer no tactile feedback, unlike rubberdomes which have some tactility.

The reality of mechs and caps is that this is a niche market and people are willing to pay for the price they ask.
