>mfw waiting for my new keyboard in the mail
Lolita spyder owner here.
There's one fault about this keyboard and I'm not sure if it's just mine or it's a matter of build quality.
The shift keys and space bar have a switch on the middle and a couple of stabilizers(?) on the sides which fit into the cherry-like cross inserts.
My left shift, however, if pressed on the left, tilts and makes the press harder than it should be. It all seems to fit perfectly, but it still tilts, as if the stabilizers are not synched.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this?
inb4 "cheap chink shit", I know about that. Just trying to come up with a solution.

>>57722376
Check the page for them.
Hey senpai how much was your tada68?
Did you go with 3tg gateron?
Did you have to assemble/solder it yourself?
>>57722567
about 120 bucks with shipping
Yeah, 35g gateron clears
Nope, came pre-assembled and everything, though I wouldn't have minded it being a bit cheaper and assembling it myself instead.
>>57722591
what's your opinion on gateron clears?
>>57722591
Fuck now I regret not hearing about it in time
Would have been fun
>>57722615
their like cherry clears
>>57722665
No they're 35g.
Cherry clears are like 50g iirc
>>57722615
Easily my favorite switch so far.
Next up would be Topre, mx clears and gateron black. And I've still got some other switches to try. But gateron clears, especially in combination with the TADA68, providing a very nice sound in combination with the very solid plate and case, and the thicc pbt keycaps.
That being said, I've still got some other switches to try out and also use other keyboards with different switches depending on what I'm doing. But the TADA68 has been getting the most use of all by a long stretch.
>>57722691
like cherry clears thats 15g lighter
>>57722711
any budget keyboards with gateron clears you can recommend?
>>57722120
>APPLE A1048 FV
Worth buying?
>>57722729
I honestly don't know of any.
The TADA68 is already almost budget to me, especially when you consider the features it comes with.
You could get some cheap-ass chinkboard and replace the switches with gateron clears.
>>57722729
MagicForce 68
>>57722800
No. I took one apart some time ago. The build quality is decent, but it feels like mushy crap. The only nice thing about it is the aesthetics.
It's a shame apple can't even into good design anymore.
>>57722615
The only gateron to avoid is greens.
>>57722711

>>57722897
Browns suck ass, they're barely tactile. If I had to describe browns, I'd say that they feel like reds with dirt stuck in the middle.
My first keyboard was with browns. They're nice enough switches, but they suck ass compared to any other switch.
>>57722857
thx for saving money.
>>57723041
what would you recommend then if I want some tactile feedback without the click clacks?
>>57723041
No wait. That's the steelseries POS I had prior to getting my first mech.
here we go
>>57723056
My pleasure.
Get an old AEK II if you want a nice keyboard, though you'll have to either make your own or shell out for an adapter. But at least they're solid keyboards.
>>57723084
clears
>>57723084
cherry clears, also one of my favorite switches.
Any good options (China, probably) for some mechanical keyboards around $30? I'd like to pick some up for friends for Christmas.
Tenkeyless preferred since that's what I can get for the money. Full would be great but that's gonna add cost.

How can it have a tactile bump if it's linear?
There's a Das 4 Pro for sale for $80 on my local craigslist. Is it worth picking up? It'd be my first mechanical and I really want this one for the numpad and media keys/volume knob, only catch is that it's the Mac version.

Metal case and pbt caps, unfortunately spray painted and laser etched, so not really desirable. Going out on a limb, I'd assume that it's not fully programmable either.

It's the escape key, sure it gets used fairly often, but you're hardly going to use it enough for it to develop shine anytime soon.
You could also get one of these fuckers. I feel like I should pick up the angel for my HHKB, but then again, I'll be doing some extensive modding on that anyway, so I'm not sure about getting keycaps for it yet.

one of the sources for this kind of confusion is that gateron once made a tactile clear switch that was similar to the zealios in the parent post
however, most of the time people refer to the 35g linear switch when they talk about gateron clears
>>57723437

anyone ever try greetech browns? i hear they are fantastic, even better than gateron browns
>>57723776
das keyboards use greetech
honestly cherry clones should be pretty much the same as cherry switches
>>57723418
There is a second style
http://www.geekkeys.com/holyoops-eva-aluminum-keycap-newest-version/
>>57723857
what makes you say that? its a different spring (greetech is heavier) and supposedly the bump on the slider is both bigger and smoother
>>57723857
definitely isn't true.
i have the mk84 from mechanicalkeyboards with greetech brown switches, and they are noticeably scratchier/squeakier than any other brown switches i've used (i've tried a few cherry browns and kailh browns).
i actually have never noticed any scratchiness in cherry switches (i guess i'm less sensitive than other people), but the greetechs are absolutely awful. i can hear random scraping/squeaking when just typing normally. it isn't restricted to a few problem keys either as i can just hit any key a few times and it will eventually squeak at some point.
>>57723999
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbFTOadnnJo
>>57722665
They're linear, and very light. While cherry clears are tactile and heavy. Cherry clears actuation is around 55g & bottom out is around 100g.
>>57722219
did you 3D print that? You know Clack Factory uses silicone molds for their cheap artisan keycaps
>>57723462
how did the Novatouch feel anon?

>>57724042
hmm the squeaking in that video is definitely pretty noticeably. i haven't heard squeaking like that in any of the boards with cherry switches that i have tried/owned.
not really relevant, but i have purchased and returned two different kbp boards in the past (v80 with clears, v60 with matias quiet click) for chattering issues so i'm somewhat biased against kbp boards in general.
that said, i was mostly responding to the "clones should be pretty much the same as cherry switches" statement, as in my experience the cheaper clones are definitely worse.
is there a cherry mx clear clone i could try for comparison? i've only tried clones for reds, browns, and blacks.
>>57724269
Yeah, I'll have to experiment some more, but getting tolerances down with the stem seems like it'll be a pain.
I'll probably just end up using molds too, though the 3D printer could come in handy for making the front part of the molds when first casting them.

>>57725303
so you can get these done at wasdkeyboards but the result will be a shitty ABS keycap that will wear down after heavy use. maxkeyboards is the exact same thing, but they can do backlit keys as well. it's the easiest way to get custom keys, and likely the cheapest at $50
there's a company called varmilo that can do custom pbt dye-subbing which would be better than the wasdkeyboards stuff, but you actually have to email them for an inquiry, so i don't know anything about the price or process and what they can do
and there's a guy on reddit (yes yes i know, don't jump on me) that just tested out some custom pbt dyesubbing, and he says he will likely do custom orders in the future. so you can check that out
and i also know there's this one guy on etsy that does custom pbt stuff as well but it's very expensive

>>57725757
>soft touch materials
Where were these? And shit I didn't know that these used ABS, that is a negative for sure.
>Switch them to PBT and you'll really enjoy it

>>57723911
god damn these are dope
>>57725792
not him, but the soft touch materials were on the extra keycaps that you get. You can just switch them out easily
Also the vast majority of keyboards use ABS plastics, so buying a new keyboard just because the keycaps get a yucky shine (pic related) is dumb thing to do. PBT keycap sets cost around 35-45 bucks, with some on massdrop going bellow 30 like: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vortex-backlit-pbt-doubleshot-keycap-set
The only keyboards that I know off that come with PBT keycaps by default are high end Ducky and some of the fruity 60% keyboards. Everyone uses ABS plastics
>>57725792
well they don't normally "wear out" to the point that you can't use them anymore; they just get shiny after use and people don't like that since it looks and feels kind of gross.
as far as how long that takes, well i guess it's however long you can stand the shiny-ness. probably between a few months and a year depending on how and how much you use a keyboard

we are talking about the rosewill, right? a normal set of keys should cover it, since it's standard
a set of PBT keys from ducky or vortex shouldn't be too expensive
>>57726159
Would these work properly?
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vortex-backlit-pbt-doubleshot-keycap-set
Like would every key replace every key on the Rosewill keyboard?
>>57726198
yes, Rosewill uses a standard layout so this shouldn't be a problem. Any standard keycap set will fit
>>57726157
Yikes
>>57726286
big deal the keyboard was already $300 to begin with. whats an extra 100 really
>>57726228
Oh shit do you have the same keyboard?
>>57726307
So do they work just fine? I found a set of Jap keycaps for the real force that are only $100 on eBay , SA0100-kt1. Would they work on my HHKB?
>>57725689
>says $39 in keycaps directory
>actually $95
damn
those jap red and blacks look gr8 too
>>57726449
$39 is the price for the blanks. Obviously the dye-subbed ones are more expensive.
>>57726449
should have preordered them bud
>>57726449
XDA Milestone has a very similar japanese set.
I ordered IMSTO but it never came, so I decided to try XDA.
>>57726446
you'll have to check the layouts. JIS is different from ANSI and the hhkb has a non-standard layout anyway. though if they have the same profile i'm sure you could just put the alphas on and leave the modifiers alone
#RubberDomesMatter
It's fucking time we stop the keyism. We need to stop the violence we're perpetrating in the name of promoting mechanical-serving interests and give rubber domes a FAIR CHANCE at the American Dream.
>>57726823
except Topres are both rubber domes and mechanical

They're capacitively sensed and have no contact mechanism whatsoever. They're the exact opposite of mechanical.
good night /mkg/
should I get a pok3r with clears or nature whites?
My only experience with mechanical keyboards so far is my RK-9000 with blues.
ordered a qisan 68-key with brown switches for work
If I like it I believe I will order the blue switch version for home
thoughts on qisan as a brand?
>>57727208
depends. Do you like linear switches that offer now tactile feedback, then get the whites. Or do you hate the clicky sound of your blues, but still want some tactile feedback that isn't just dirt stick in some reds, then get clears
>>57727245
>now
no*
>>57727215
I hate to break it to you, but qisan has a floating key design like razer stealth, so its much louder then other keyboards. Also the keycaps are just as thin so don't expect your co-workers to appreciate your presence
>>57727292
Interesting
I have a bunch of extra keycaps lying arond, maybe I'll try switching em out if they're too clicky
>>57722201
>reddit the switch
Only 80g tactile and clicky switches are worthwhile
ducky shine 3 TKL cherry mx blue switches w/ 0rings and PBT caps

whites are tactile and clicky but they are inconsistent. Some click more than others.
>>57723230
>The girl has a mechanical body. However she is still an adolescent child
>>57727399
so membrane buckling springs, cherry greens + whites, and blue alps are the only worthwhile switches
>>57727461

not nature whites, those are linear.

Nice pen. What is it?
hey quick question, i kinda want a mechanical keyboard, but i'd like something that makes a nice clicky feeling without noise.
i know browns suck, not enough feedback.
so where can i get an MX tactile grey keyboard?
>>57727399
Feelios are offered with 78g springs, close enough.
>mfw waiting on 67g & 78g feelios, aristotles, MOD-M and MOD-H switches
>only planning on building one ergodox
>>57727574
I don't know of any board that comes with tactile greys as stock. You can get the switches themselves from mechanicalkeyboards.com then just build whatever board you want with them.
Greys are heavy as fuck though, you sure you want a ~120g bottom out?
>>57727574
There is only one switch that fits your description. It is called matias quiet click. They are more tactile then anything cherry has to offer, and are even quieter then rubber domes. You can find them here if you are in the US:
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/search.php?keyword=&brand=&switch=32&size=&led=&capmat=&capprint=&model=&availability=in_stock_pre&show_kb=off&show_kb=on&show_acc=off
there are still some black Friday coupons so you can check those out and get a small discount.
And here if you are in Europe:

>>57727618
yeah, i want greys because i always press as hard as i can anyway, so it'll stop me bottoming out. really i like my rubber dome keyboard, but y'know this meme looks nice.
>>57727661
anything for canada?
that looks pretty cool, but might be a bit too heavy even. plus caps'll be a bitch to find for non-cherry/topre/whatever switches
although, if i'll be DIY-ing something, would there be any way to fit mechanical switches in an old keyboard? i've been using the same one since 2003 and it's super nice. pic related.
>>57727781
>would there be any way to fit mechanical switches in an old keyboard?
Not in a rubber dome board like that.
>>57727750
?
>>57727781
you are better of getting a used steel series 6gv2 with browns, then replacing the switches with greys if you want that specific layout.
>>57727810
Nib looks a little worse for wear. Did you do your own restore job on it?
>>57727797

>>57727823
I think it cleaned up nicely since then. Those were pics from right when I found it.
I did restore it, yeah.
I bought a keyboard.
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1605
60% keyboard fags. How would you program pic related for use with a modern OS? Thinking of having caps lock be control and right shift being fn toggle.
Is there any switch that is as smooth as a topre? I tried a friends blues and the "2-step" actuaction just felt too weird, same with browns at a walmart.

really makes you think.
>>57726879
>mfw i don't eve ngive a shit if they're rubber dome or trumech
topres are best mother fucking switches. go home poorfags
>>57728627
It's not about improving productivity. It's about enjoying the experience of typing. Why do you think people still use fountain pens or shave with straight razors? It's a better experience but it doesn't magically make you more productive.
>>57726007
no idea. both the boards i received had chattering on multiple keys (the v80 clears was a lot worse).
i didn't ask for a replacement so i could've just been extremely unlucky with the v80. from a few google searches it seems like v60 is the one with chattering issues in general (i don't think it's limited to a specific switch).
>>57728648
>straight razors
shit analogy senpai, since nothing comes close for a clean shave.
>>57728689
DE razors come pretty close, and are much easier to use.
I'm so sorry /mkg/
I wasn't planning to go down this route, believe me, but $70 Canadian for a refurbed Razer Blackwidow Ultimate was legitimately the most practical option for me this Black Friday.
Sure I would have liked to drop $120 on that Ducky Shine over on DirectCanada, but that just wasn't in the cards. And believe me, I checked my other options. The Razer was the best fit for me.
Someday I will have a really cool mech and can get on your level, but it just wasn't feasible right now and I just can't stand this $15 Logitech POS anymore.
>>57728239
Greens are just stiffer blues, but feel so much better. Give those a try if you want something clicky.
If you just want something smooth, look at zealios.
>>57728647
>poorfags
But the best topre board is only $200 (hhkb pro 2). That is pretty much entry level cost when it comes to customs.
My korean custom cost closer to $400 with caps and everything, and it was a budget build.
>>57728689
Safety razors are just as good and dirt cheap along with easy to use.
>>57728239
Gateron linears. If you're looking for smooth keys foremost you don't want anything clicky or tactile.
>>57728968
Well on the bright side when you're ready to get rid of it you can clean it up and probably sell it to some gaymurr for around what you paid for it.
>>57726007
It's a KBP thing, not a switch thing. Something about their board design or firmware makes them shit at switch debouncing.
>>57729139
They probably use cheap switches without crosspoint.
>>57729149
Yeah, they should have gone with Gateron instead of Cherry.
>>57728968
mechanical is mechanical. it will still be a vast upgrade over some shitty rubber dome. for $70 canadabucks that's not terrible, sounds like you weighed your options and made an informed purchase to me. i hope you enjoy your blackwidow regardless of what anyone around here says.
>>57729164
Cherry has crosspoint though.
>>57729212
They also chatter on KBP boards so clearly that can't actually be true.
>>57729191
There were a couple other candidates in the race. On Black Friday Newegg had an Azio MGK-1 RGB on for 100 Canabucks. And a while back I was looking at paying $50 for a Chinese seven color board off of Aliexpress.
Ultimately I'm glad I passed on both. I don't really need the rainbow crap (my favorite color is green, conveniently, and it's the only color I would have used on an RGB board) and like the other anon said it would be an easy sell if I ever want to upgrade. This keyboard typically sells for $140 Canadian so I reckon I'd get my money back pretty easily.
I love keyboards
>>57729314

so whats the difference in an US keyboard? despite the fact that we have a lot of extra keys on my language i always type in english anyway
is there going to be anything different? i mean obviously the special keys are going to be elsewhere but i use a linux server on a daily basis where the character coding is english as well so im familiar with the mapping
>>57729231
Must be a firmware issue then. Wrong debounce time or something.
>>57729338

Hey guys, what is your opinion on the Razer Blackwidow chroma?
Right now there is a pretty good Cyber Monday deal going on (35% off) and I am in need of a new good keyboard.
