By definition mp3 is lossy and caps at frequency defined during transcoding. In your example, it's 20kHz, but since mp3 doesn't define sampling rate of 40kHz (maximum frequency is half of sampling rate, Nyquist frequency), it uses the nearest higher one, which is 44.1kHz (with maximum frequency 22.05kHz). It just happens that during decoding some samples reach this high frequency.

What you should be more worried about, is the shelf mentioned by >>57656637 – a cut-off in frequency, at 16kHz in your example. Good quality music should have smooth graphs.

Is trying to get on Nos worth it? I don't know how I could substantiate it but I've used a seedbox on WCD for the past two, three years with around 1,500 torrents, of which about 300 are my own contributions--almost had the "Torrent Master" designation (I believe?) with 550GB up (a fifth from bounty), 30-40 down, etc.

What could I do to make myself lucrative for this tracker, if not future (more secure, I suppose) trackers? Take a picture of the number of WCD torrents I'm retaining or something?

(The more technical questions elude me. I've only ever used WCD--never made use of any other private tracker.)
