I've tried about 5 different raquet types ones. There isnt much difference between them, they all work fine and have almost the same design.

the only thing noteworthy is the rechargeable ones are more convenient than the ones that use batteries but come with a thicker handle and are slightly heavier.

You need an XLR to XLR cable from your mic to the phantom power then XLR to 3.5mm (should be the weird one you're talking about that the mic comes with) from phantom power into your PC aux port.

I have a PCM DAC inside the casing of my Classic 47 amp. I used fly-screen mesh and stuck that on each surface of the acrylic. Worked well, looks cool, and I can still see through it.
You could go that way if you want a decent looking result.

Sounds worse than a BM-800 slightly due to the controls they added.
That said, its pretty circumstantial on the BM set-up

A properly phantom powered [48v] BM will sound MILES better than that mic due to USB only supplying 5 volt [assuming the supplied USB actually supplies 5 volt, but I doubt it wouldn't]

A BM-800 of a GOOD soundcard [one that supplies 5 volt] will sound /SLIGHTLY/ better than that microphone. Depends on if you value the controls over a tiny bit of sound quality.

A BM-800 on a BAD soundcard will sound worse. This is because the soundcard isnt supplying the max 5.1 volt that USB is capable of.


Now, if you properly phantom power that microphone, compared to the BM-800, it will once again sound only slightly worse, with both actually not sounding bad either way.


Hope that kinda cleared it up.

It's not a bad choice, especially since it comes with gain control, and a decent looking microphone stand. If properly powered, I doubt anyone would claim your microphone quality is bad, unless you're doing professional recording.

what others said, electrical tape would be fine. might want to use some heat sink so it looks nicer. I personally have a bare pcb with that chip (a biger one that has SPDIF, headphones, and volume buttons I don't use) hanging off a usb cable and it works fine.
