I saw the initial trouble once Mininova went legit, and then other torrent sites came under fire (h33t, various smaller ones), I started sucking it up and buying my music on eBay used. I have almost every album I had initially pirated now on CD and it cost less than $250. I also hit up as many garage sales as I possibly can for used CDs, Blurays, and DVDs. I've pretty much given up pirating except for new releases that I can't get secondhand for less than $5. It works out because new releases are much easier to pirate than 25 year old obscure albums, which are conversely much easier to find secondhand for cheap

It's set in the .torrent file. Individual seeders could probably reconfigure their clients to allow it to connect to DHT or whatever, or to switch trackers, but it would require they be aware. I don't think there's anything you could do remotely to force it, especially if the only tracker they are authorized to connect to is down.

Well rather than doing that you'd just have to have a script to process your configuration file for your client and tick them on for each torrent. That would be easy enough on most clients. Though it would require the uploaders each do it themselves, and would require a different script for each client.

Changing the .torrent files themselves would be more annoying since they would have to reload them all and start them all again.
