Pre-modded to USB with a programmable XWhatsit controller. If you take out the flipper on the key next to the enter key you can put a standard Model M enter key in there and have a regular ANSI board.

OR MAYBE YOU NOT DO THIS. PROBABLY IS BECAUSE YOU NEVER DESIGN KEYBOARD IN WHOLE LIFE. YOU LOOK AT FINE GERMAN KEYBOARD AND THINK IT NEED CRAZY SHIT STICK ON ALL SIDES OF KEYBOARD. YOU HAVE DISEASE OF AMERICAN CAPITALIST, CHANGE THING THAT IS FINE FOR NO REASON EXCEPT TO LOOK DIFFERENT FROM COMRADE. So I dug my two Apple Extended Keyboard II's out of storage today.

Going by information from the Desk Authority wiki and my own observation using a keypuller each keyboard is as follows

Keyboard #1
>FCC ID BCGM3501
>1989
>Made in USA
>Alps SKCM Salmon

Keyboard #2
>FCC ID BCGM3501
>1990
>Made In USA
>Alps SKCM Cream Damped

I suppose this is pretty good? What would the value be on the Salmon Alps keyboard?

Had an interesting experience with my z-77 today.

I noticed the F2 key wasn't working unless I really bottomed out the key with a lot of pressure. I took the key cap off and it worked fine. Back on, and fucked again. Take it off, and it's still fucked. Think, might as well try just putting some pressure on it to see if it's a connection issue. I push it at one edge with a bit of force, and now it's working fine.

This model has solderless switches, so maybe it wasn't sitting right and the connection was weak?

Well you see since you bottom out the switch anyway you will make a lot of noise so I wouldn't recommend it. Also browns are noticeably louder then rubber domes.

I would recommend either Matias quiet click switches

The Corsair Keyboards pick up as HID Keyboards. They'll work on pretty much anything.

It's kind of insane how fucking terrible it feels to type on. It is objectively harder to type on weight wise, and the response just feels worse. I gave it 3 days of testing, and I am still missing letters while typing because the activation force is so fucking different/weird despite them using the same switch. Is that PC Gaming Race modular board or whatever supposed to be any good? It's gonna be my first mechanical, also hopefully my last for a while too, and they've got a coupon that brings it down to $83.

I was also looking at the Fnatic/Func Rush and Corsair Strafe. Trying to keep around $100.

I was gonna get a Leopold when I first started looking cause they seem neato but the price of a backlit one is kinda high and my touch typing is like a B- at best right now. Should I just go for it and sink or swim on learning to type in the dark? It also doesn't have a numpad, but I know it's mostly habit that drives me towards full keyboards, I barely use the thing.

Thinking of using a keyboard that has matias switches, does anon recommend any particular gauge/thickness to a first-time user of noise-dampening devices?
>>
>>57200753
Don't bother. Just get the quiet click matias switches and it'll be quiet enough. Or lube them if you really want.
>>
>>57200753

Matias quiet clicks are already dampened, and in both directions of the key travel too, unlike what happens when you put an o-ring on an undampened switch.

Matias quiet clicks are already quieter than a regular rubber dome board. So if you can tolerate that then you're set.

Cool, now I've got my priorities set.

>>57190102
At some point in the post-apocalypse, people will want to build a keyboard (for whatever reason), as all the rubberdomes are now unusable and this guy, now an old geezer, his eyes failing, will offer them a look at his arm for insight.

Or they'll just use some old Model Ms.

does the wobble not bother you?
i actually prefer scratchy keys over wobbly ones
>>

They improved the wobble in later rounds. I've got R2 though. Mine's a little wobblier than MX switches, but the difference is minuscule. My cherry browns wobbled too, albeit a little less.

Here's what I do: rest your finger lightly on a 1u size key on your board, and wiggle it in all directions. The amount that my zealios wiggle is identical to my cherry board. Now do the same with the key pressed halfway in, and the cherry switch wiggles the same amount, while zealios wiggle a tiny bit more. Maybe it's because I'm a moderately fast typer, but the amount of wobble a switch has when partially pressed isn't something I ever notice because that goes really fast.

You aren't supposed to sand the keyboard case
https://geekwhack.org/index.php?topic=44191.0

(just get rid of the W in the link)
Also if you want too you are supposed to sand the keyboard case after the clear coat has been applied, unless you just want to sand it.

Matias quiet clicks and linears are both dampened the same way and sound the same. The quiet clicks just have tactile feedback.

The names for Matias switches are kind of ass-backwards. Their tactile switches are undampened+clicky, while their quiet click switches are tactile.
>>
>>57202719

A bit of wobble isn't a bad thing if it means the switch travel is smooth/needs no lubing and never binds. eg: ALPS switches

Moving your backtick to the right side of the keyboard? What the fuck?

Combining escape and tilda to a single key? Do you not find yourself in Vi every once and a while? Do you never refer to home as tilda? Where is your backtick key?

If you want to get a cheap but descent keyboard then go for the rosewill one, skip the ugly transparent case and instead go for the white One which has high quality keycaps and macros

Seems too ricey for my taste. I strongly prefer minimalist keyboards. Currently have a Filco MJT TKL with browns and I absolutely love it. I'm very much into maybe spending the extra money to get another one.

Thanks mate.
I'm still struggling between getting the Rosewill for cheap or getting another (maybe full) Filco for work. Currently have a wireless Dell that is serviceable but the meme is real.

If its for work then maybe don't get a cherry switch keyboard since they are all loud (except for the silent corsair ones)

How about these since they are mechanical and quieter then rubberdomes

Should I buy this set? I have a black FILCO full keyboard. I am thinking of going with dark grey modifiers and white numbers and letters but am unsure if it would look alright on a black body. Alternatively I could save a lot of money and just buy a set of grey caps like these
http://www.geekkeys.com/grey-blank-pbt-104-keyset/
I also am wondering about the symbols underneath the numbers, I don't have them memorized right now and I wonder if it would be annoying learning them when I have a newly blank keyboard.

I guess I have a lot of thoughts right now but which would look best with a black body keyboard, grey and white or just grey? And can anyone comment on learning the symbols beneath the number keys?

The Ducky shine 6 is coming soon with RGB lighting and PBT keycaps if you don't mind waiting a bit, or you can get the special shine 6 YOTM right now.

Question about key profiles and acquiring PBT keycaps:

I'm not the Anon that >>57197227 was responding to but I liked his advice looking for a board with MX Clears, and leaning toward KBParadise V80 over something like CODE. It's cheaper and I'm not a fan of backlighting anyway.

So I have two questions:
1. Does anyone you know what profile the V80 is? I'm concerned about buying a keycap set with the wrong sized spacebar and modifiers.

2. If I buy a new keycap set of a different profile (as in the key's angles), will it look/feel weird as long as I replace the entire set?

For instance, if I get this for the V80:
http://www.geekkeys.com/geekkeys-white-blank-thick-pbt-full-keyset/

As thanks, have a silly Texas flag key layout that I came up with.

DSA patriot is better
http://pimpmykeyboard.com/dsa-patriot-keycap-set/

I suggest you look at this image to see keycap profiles >>57204549

To answer your question:
1) V80 uses the standard layout and they come with OEM profile so pretty much everything will fit on them
2) Yes if they come in a different profile. If its the same profile you can mix and match, but they have to be in the same row in order to be replaced.

And yes those keycaps that you posted are compatible

>>
>>57212593
Thanks for the quick reply.

Just to make sure I heard right, you shouldn't mix and match profiles, that makes sense. But if for instance even though the V80 is an OEM profile, and thus any OEM will work, another set such as the the DSA Patriot you linked, would still feel consistent if I used the entire set, correct?

Or, put another way, the profile is determined by the keycaps only, and not by some angling internal to the way the switches are set up in the board?

hey guys

what are my options for WIRELESS mechanical keyboards?

bonus points if it has a numpad

I really like wireless keyboards, for some reason the microsoft one i own works flawlessly, it never misses any strokes or anything, nor does it feel like there's delay, ever.

(Wireless mice though, those are shit.)

I own a corsair K65 RGB which i love, but damn the cable is so bulky.

I want a:

is this possible?

There are two different types of profiles
Keycaps which are OEM, DSA, Cherry, and the rest in the image I linked to you. If you don't mix them it should feel consistent. It should be noted that the rows aren't uniform. For example Row 1 and Row 4 have different profiles so if you mix two of them even if they are from the same profile it wouldn't be consistent. DSA and g20 (pic related) are uniform so the orientation shouldn't mater

the second is keyboard profile which shouldn't effect your keycap placement

You can practically feel the scratchiness of the switches from those sound samples, though. I actually caught myself gritting my teeth and cringing like someone was raking their nails down a chalkboard.
>>
>>57212682
Not sure why >>57212825 is trying to overcomplicate the answer since you seem to understand right, but just to lay it out:

Yes with most modern keyboards you can switch between sets as long as all the keys are the same profile (e.g. You can mix and match two OEM sets or two DSA sets without issue, but not between an OEM and a DSA set).

I think the other thing that >>57212825 was trying to point out is that with some sets where ALL the keys are uniform, you can also swap between rows (e.g. you could swap your standard QWERTY layout for Dvorak or etc., but for an OEM configuration, you can't, since separate rows have different curvature (e.g. the QWERT row of keys have a different curve from the ZXCVB row of keys).

>>
>>57214806
I want to help, but the ~$50 budget is a hard thing to satisfy. My only familiarity in terms of boards is with Cherry MX switches and Topre switches. You can sometimes catch a non-backlit Rosewill or Cooler Master board in the $60-75 range that has either MX Reds or MX Blacks. So if you can spare an extra $20 I would say make your life easier and just look for one of those deals.

More recently-available linear switches like Gateron's linear "Red axis" or "Black axis" come in boards that sit just below those Cherry MX boards in price. So maybe look at Qisan Magicforce and friends, you might catch a lucky listing around $50? I don't have any experience with Gateron, Greetech or others, so I can't vouch for them personally.
>>
>>57214806
Isn't everything like 50% more expensive down there because of the glorious 'straya tax? Probably won't find anything in that price range(probably not even shit tier level gaymur gear). The only keyboard I can think of right now is a Magicforce 68, that's not a TKL though.
>>
