>>
My stock mx keycaps are starting to degrade. Which blank PBT keycaps should I purchase that are around the 40 USD range?
>>
I know this is subjective so what is your opinion: red vs brown vs clear switches? Should I just go for clear?

No blue/green for me since I do not want click sounds.
>>
>>57165183
Red is too light and not good.
Brown is too light and does not have enough tactile feedback. It's like a red with sand in it.
Clears are heavy and have a satisfying feel and sound.
Go for clears.
>>
>>57165126
So far? Not bad. The plastic is a bit cheap, at least for the bezels at the top and the wrist rest, but the keycaps seem alright. The lights aren't terribly bright but they don't really need to be. The switches seem fine (They are advertised as Gaote/Outemu). No rough actuation or anything that I can feel, they feel pretty much like the Cherry blues on my RK-9000. There is a much different sound profile than my RK-9000 which could be down to the construction. The click is about the same but bottoming out has a lower tone which I actually prefer.

The metal top is certainly metal as far as I can tell, but it doesn't feel like super sturdy metal or anything, it's just a thin bit of sheet material. Keyboard seems solid enough though.

The programming is a bit weird when you're using the custom lighting mode.
>>
>>57165229
Thanks, what about finger fatigue? Is that not a problem with clear (pretty much only reason for considering red as I heard bad stuff about brown)?
Maybe it is something you get used to but wanted to hear others' experience.

Reds are nice and light.
Browns suck and you shouldn't get them or find them enjoyable.
Clears are nice and heavy.

That's about as much as I can tell you, there's a pretty stark contrast between reds and clears since the former is linear and light and the latter is tactile and heavy, they're both nice, but which one you prefer ultimately depends on your preferences.

Get a switch tester if you can't make your mind up.

As for finger fatigue with clears; I play a lot of FPS which involves holding down left-shift a lot, obviously, I use my pinky for that.
After four months or so I started getting pains in my lower arm. Replacing the clear in the left shift with a black made my pains go away again in less than a month.
My current daily driver is a board with 35g linears and I still don't consider clears particularly heavy or fatiguing. Unless you have babby fingers, clears are just fine.
>>
>>57165297
I couldn't say really. They say they're using their own switches which is probably the most important thing to note. You might be able to find info on how good their cherry clones are, that's what I'd do at least.
>>
>>57165267
Despite clears using a heavy spring, the heaviness doesn't really ramp up until after the actuation. So what happens is that you bottom out less with clears. You could always swap out the spring if you have weak girly hands anyway.
>>
>>57165480
"Noppoo" switches are just Gaotes.
>>
>>57165644
Ah, well in that case these seem pretty good so far. Still that seems a bit pricey for a keyboard that's only 60% layout and doesn't use actual Cherry switches.

Is that PC Gaming Race modular board or whatever supposed to be any good? It's gonna be my first mechanical, also hopefully my last for a while too, and they've got a coupon that brings it down to $83.

I was also looking at the Fnatic/Func Rush and Corsair Strafe. Trying to keep at $100.

I was gonna get a Leopold when I first started looking cause they seem neato but the price of a backlit one is kinda high and my touch typing is like a B- at best right now. Should I just go for it and sink or swim on learning to type in the dark.

The trick to typing on clears so you don't get fatigue is to not bottom out. The switch gets really heavy just after the bump so depress the key down to the bump and stop. Feels good man

Guys what's wrong with my Model M? Some bottom keys (spacebar, B, N, arrow keys, num 0) stop working unless I push down on the side of the keyboard. Pic related is where I have to push down. It also creaks a little bit when I push it down. How can I fix this?

Thanks but why not tactile gray then? Maybe clear hits the sweet spot of actuation force?
I will see what kind of mechanical keyboards I can get my hands on to try but I will probably go with clear. Everyone so far have recommended that.
>>
>>57173814
Probably bad contact to the rubberplate, try opening it and removing dust
>>

Tactile greys are very heavy. Might be fine if you're sticking it on the spacebar, but it'd most likely be tiring to use after a while if used on every switch.

Greys are pretty much non existent

Show the bottom of the board.
If there's only one mounting hole per switch (plus the 2 electrical leads) then it's plate.
If there's one big hole and 2 small ones beside it, you can use plate or PCB.

These are all excellent keyboard brands, just understand as you step up in price the better the build quality is and the more features you typically get

China Tier: Magiforce and Tomoko (these brands are under $40)

Lower end: Cooler Master, Royal Kludge, Unicomp (These brands are under $100)

Mid range: Ducky, Vor Tex, Leopold, Matias (These brands are in the $90-150 price range)

High End: Filco, Realforce, Varmilo (These are $150+)

Autism Tier: Korean customs and those new production model Fs (these can be anywhere from 100 to 1000 dollars)

Don't get WASD. They physical keyboards itself is good, but they use these poor quality keycaps while their competitors offer better options for the same price.

I would recommend anything made by Ducky (Pic related is a Ducky one with PBT keycaps for $100 is what I would recommend the most, but the brown switch option is sold out).

I've tried 67g and 78g and I like 67g better. When I typed on 78g it didn't feel heavy until after the bump while 67g felt consistent throughout, and because of this 67g to me felt heavier than 78g. However, Zeal changed up the 78g springs for R4 so they should feel better.
