How do I diagnose a computer problem?
It glitches out straight after the boot screen but it will launch into windows recovery no problem.

Before the boot problem it was freezing with a graphical glitch. Is the GPU fucked or could it be the PSU? How do I find out?

Install Gentoo. I'd recommend you do it on a completely separate drive, but since this is your first time and you don't want to delete everything by accident, go with a virtual machine first. If you do mkfs.ext4 in a VM it won't actually affect your hard drive, by the way (it will affect how the files work, though)

Didn't work. I've tried trouble shooting a lot by disabling other browser addons and such. Loaded it up in firefox and it worked fine. I'm using Pale Moon which seems to be the issue. Though they both say they are full compatible with Pale Moon so I'm not sure why it's not working.

Also tried using StyleChan instead and I still can't get the 3 gears to show up.

i'm trying out a KVM switch (to share M+KB only, no displays) for my two Windows 7 PCs. It worked perfectly out of the box yesterday but then I left the computers on overnight and woke up today one of the rigs doesn't recognise it at all (the other one does without any issues, neither of them sleep or hibernate or whatever, just sat there). There was some question mark icon thing on the HID part of device manager. Plugging it out and reconnecting didn't help, and it actually didn't recognise the keyboard even after I plugged it directly into the rig. After a restart everything works flawlessly again, it recognises the KB, recognises the KVM switch. But I'm guessing after a while it's going to drop it again.

Any clue as to what is going on here? "Allow the computer to turn off X to save power" is not ticked anywhere. The switch is from some brand LevelOne, very sparse documentation anywhere on their website, no drivers, so I have no clue what the fuck is going on

I attempted to setup a dualboot for w8 and w7, but reverted it later by deleting the w7 partition drive. I've managed to make it automatically select my now default OS(w8) on startup but it still stalls on the OS selection screen and adds about 20 seconds to my bootup.

Got BF1 today

Just noticed after about 5 hours of playing on and off that my card was sitting at 92-94*C.

Running the game on high getting 50 to 70+ fps, didn't notice any issues while playing. Also should include that my room is pretty warm rn.

The card is a R9 280x 3GB and normally does run pretty hot (overwatch around 82-85*C on ultra)

Basically, you can either create a live USB of ubuntu, and then download a recovery tool that will erase grub. Or, you can create a windows usb and use the recovery option from that which will restore the windows bootloader.

The only annoying this is that you'll need another computer to make the usb's.

Are there any laptops 13.3" or smaller with: 1080p display (or higher), non-shit CPU, discrete graphics, and ssd? The only thing I could find is the xiaomi mi notebook but I don't want to pay 1k for that hot shit. It's way too overpriced at the moment. I don't mind buying used, in fact, I'd prefer it since it will be cheaper and I do not mind DIY at all if something needs repair or to replace hdd with SSD.

I'm not looking for a gaming notebook, I just want more power than my Surface Pro 2 can provide. The CPU is absolute shit and I would really like some CUDA acceleration for some of the programs I use (openCL can work too but CUDA is preferred). Battery life is negligible, it just has to be portable and small.

I was also looking at an HP 8570w but that is a lot bigger than I'd like and I simply don't have the room for it where I would be using it.

Thanks

You need to look at the rollover rating for the keyboard, cheaper keyboards generally don't have good rollover.

Hi /g/,

A long ass while ago I setup postfix and dovecot on a shitty ubuntu based VPS I have.

It worked great for a while, then one day I did an apt-get upgrade, and it broke things.

I'm unable to send e-mails from this server. Receiving works fine, sending fails. On Android it just gives a generic "need to sign in" error. Outlook 2013 and prior just wouldn't add the account when it failed to test sending.

Outlook 2016 is finally giving me an error that leads somewhere.

"Server error: '554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied'"

My results so far have told me to turn on SASL, however as far as I can tell I'm already using that to authenticate for receiving emails, so why doesn't it work for outbound?

What is an appropriate file extension for large files (think 20+GB) in terms of creating encrypted containers/volumes? What file extensions could be applied to obscure a container at least on a visible level?

>>
>>57185535
It's objecting to the file size. The Windows clipboard does not hold the image in its original format, but in basically BMP format. So if you save as BMP and it's larger than 8 MB, that's why it's rejecting it. Also sending someone a .bmp is a dick move.

Instead, try dragging the image, which may result in the original file being used as is. Otherwise, save and then drag it in from Explorer.

I have a Motorola EX430 MotoGO! (yes, I know).
I'm trying to install Facebook (yes, I also know).
For some reason, the official download doesn't seem to work properly. The buttons seem to be misconfigured or something. The "Up" button works perfectly, the "Confirm" set of buttons the phone has (call button, the one to the right of it and the square button at the center of the pad) seem to work as the "Down" button for some reason, and that's about it. No other commands are recognized by the app.

Can someone lend me a hand on this? I know it's a shitty phone, and also a shitty request, but I'd like to get this to work.

Also, on a different note, for some reason the facebook app doesn't show anywhere after installing, so the only way I've found to reopen it is to reinstall it. Reinstalling does seem to prove that it doesn't get deleted or anything, as it recognizes the current installed version and asks if you wanna override it.

Hope a kind sould may wanna help me sort this out.
>>

The connector isn't as important as the volts and amps.

Should I avoid 27inch 1080p monitors?

Thinking between a 24inch 1080p or a 27inch 1080p.

Don't think my current gpu can support 1440p at 144+ fps.

I do sit quite close to my current monitor (it's 22inch, 1680 x 1050). Face is maybe around 40-50cm away from the monitor.

Is 27inch 1080p going to be pixels all over the place? Or is it acceptable?

Hi /sqt/. I have a problem with my MSI Gaming X RX 480 8gb. Sometimes while playing games, or even while completely idle, my card's fans will start to misbehave. I have a custom fan curve active on the card, however sometimes the fans will work at speeds way beyond what they should be for the temperature.

For example, I left my computer on overnight, and I woke up early to find that my gpu fans were blasting at 100%. The computer was doing absolutely nothing while idle, but the fans still felt the need to spin so fast. The temperature wasn't even a concern. After fiddling with it, the fans stopped completely and no manual setting would get them to spin again until I restarted my computer.

1/2
>>
>>57186552

cont. 2/2
Another time, I was playing Final Fantasy XIV, and in the middle of a boss with other players my game started to throttle to 20 fps. I pop open afterburner and see that the fan is at 0%, and my temperature is 89 degrees Celsius. So right in the middle of the fight, I close the game and restart asap so that I can get back asap.

The fans have done this before and outright shut off the computer because it reached unsafe temperatures. I have no idea what to do to fix this. Is it a problem with MSI Afterburner? Is it a problem with a custom fan curve? I've already tried reinstalling my RX 480 drivers and MSI Afterburner. Do I need to do that again? What could be the issue? Thank you in advance.

I have this hub that I found, the adapter for external power is gone. Today I found this old 5.7 V Nokia adapter.
Could it possibly work with the hub?
The plug fits and my theory goes that a hub might use a little more than 5 volts, so 5.7 wouldn't be a problem.

It says nothing about voltage ratings on the hub it self.
If it isn't a possibility, then what would be the best way to step it down 0.7 volts?

Pic related, hub taken apart

I think I've understood the i2p faq correctly, and this appears to work (added the wording from the faq followed by the rules, in order, and changed my unique port number to PORT):
* Outbound UDP from the random port noted on the configuration page to arbitrary remote UDP ports, allowing replies
-A OUTPUT -p udp --dport PORT -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
* Outbound TCP from random high ports to arbitrary remote TCP ports
-A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 9000:31000 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
* Inbound UDP to the port noted on configuration page from arbitrary locations

* Inbound TCP to the port noted on configuration page from arbitrary locations
-A INPUT -p tcp --dport PORT -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
* Outbound UDP on port 123, allowing replies
-A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 123 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

But since I have an i2p user and all, would perhaps this be better?

Is the former more secure because it doesn't allow a user free pass through the firewall as it likes? Or is the latter former because only ports used by the user will be open at any moment?

Also, I'm assuming NEW,ESTABLISHED state on all, but perhaps some should just be ESTABLISHED, like the outbound rule for tcp on the range of ports 9000-31000?

Hi friends,

A while ago, I started a VPS provider called Cockbox. I also recently
purchased my very own IP space and a lot more hardware to expand the
service to host up to 180 servers. I never sent a cockli-news post about
this because the lower capacity had quickly sold out, but now that there
is a lot more space I figured I'd let you know about it.

Having my own IP space means I can guarantee the same extensions of the
philosophy cock.li has always operated under: I don't give a shit what
you do with your server as long as it is legal in Romania and not E-mail
spam.

$10 a month gets you 1 GB Memory, 1 CPU core, 30GB SSD Space, and 1TB
Bandwidth. DDoS protection is included with every server. You can pay
with card or with Bitcoin, and as always Tor and VPNs are very much allowed.

Website is here: https://box.cock.li/

This will be the one and only E-mail about Cockbox via this mailing
list, so consider yourself properly shilled :^) If you have any
questions, you know how to reach me.

Love,
Vincent Canfield

This isn't really a stupid question, but rather something stupid I did, that probably many others have also done.

Accidentally resized a partition using parted on root. Was my home partition. I thought it would buffer the changes instead of applying immediately - of course, that wasn't the case, my entire partition resized the very nanosecond I hit enter. Or, whatever.

Still though. Managed to recover the data with only 12% loss. Pretty good, if I do say so myself. Was only just configs and quake 3, really, though.

Still felt like shit as I had to rewipe and install the whole system again, copying over the sanitary files

babbys first MATLAB program
I had to make a program that creates a random n*n matrix and outputs that matrix with all the elements apart from those not divisible by 3 OR 5. I've come up with this
v = randi(15, 3)
a = 0 == mod(v, 3)
b = 0 == mod(v ,5)
c = a + b
d = c ~= 0
divisibleby3of5 = d.*v

I always had problems with my ram. Had a whole lot of problems with it in the beginning, once I overvolted it, it everything was fine. Problem being, whenever I go to the bios or use safe mode, the overclock is overwritten by the default settings and my ram stops working. Which is quite inconvenient, but had been stable enough for me for months.
I just realized today that my ram was not compatible with my motherboard, so that might be the root of the problem. I didn't even know that was a thing.

i'm trying to get a wired connection (windows 10) to work
a small 1m cable works, but the 10m cable i need to go to my room only works if i set it do 10 Mb/s, full of half duplex. this is inconvenient, because with the other cable i get 240 Mb/s (close to the 250 Mb/s i pay for), and over wifi i get ~100 Mb/s
when set to 10 Mb/s it appears normally, but on any other setting (including automatic) it cycles endlessly beteween "network cable unplugged" and "identifying" in the control panel
the longer cable isn't broken, i tested the pins, and the status light on my pc's port lights up for about half a second.

anyone got a clue as to why this is happening, and how to fix it?

Namely: Hiran, Win7, Win8, KonBoot, Linux and such.

You can only have 4 partitions per drive in windows for some reason. If you want more then windows splits your 4th partition into logical drives to get around the 4 partition limitation.

>>57192058
the dark green outline defines a logical partition
the old MS-DOS partition format only supports 4 partitions, a logical partition is a hack that allows another 4 partitions to be stored in one "primary" (actual) partition

to have more without logical partitions, use GPT

you can boot linux from an ms-dos logical partition, though
