I needed some cash for an improvised trip to Paris with my gf back then, now ex, so I sold it for 280€ on eBay quite fast. It was a mint condition beautiful 31659 if I recall correctly, but the hacking didn't work and the hairspring did a really annoying noice all the time. I thought it was a good idea to get rid of it before the movement exploded in my own hands.

What do you guys think of Girard Perregaux?
On this pic I'm wearing my dad's.
I remember when we traveled together all the way from Spain to NYC in 2008 just to buy it from some Jewish premium watch merchant in Brooklyn. It was a cool experience, first time I saw an Orthodox Jew with the funny hair and stuff.
Nowadays I think he should have gotten a Patek instead but he got this for $10000 and it was apparently a very good deal.

maybe it's difficult to believe for Americans, but there is a lot of rich people in Spain. Europe's richest man, Amancio Ortega, is a Spaniard for example.
You could say the wealth in my country is quite inequally distributed compared to other EU countries.
Anyway my parents are just upper-middle class, maybe upper in my region. My dad was the regional manager of a national bank, now retired and my mum is a plastic surgeon.

>are you rich?
Me personally not, I "survive" with 750€ monthly while studying in Germany.

>pics of house?
I wouldn't post it on here but it's a normal looking house in a residential area.

thanks, the detail on orients is pretty nice, i am impressed.

i was going to go for the agent without the little hole, but it has no lume and im up late enough or early enough daily where i like lume. The open heart is cool mainly as this is my first auto so its neat to see more of it without being one of those crazy skeletonized ones where you can barely read the time.

Also the textured face adds one more detail thats different from my other two.

I was originally going to go with a seiko snk793 but i decided the extra money was worth it and im a happy camper.

This is garbage, some punk ass that got buyers remorse since his shitter ass is up in debt (apparently common for high earning people, just like the writer himself).

Yes luxury time pieces are a scam, the omega speedmaster I bought? Worth tops 800$ in real value for materials and quality. That Rolex I own? I guess a little more than that Omega since it isn't china made kek

But god damn watches are like art, nobody will understand why you would pay so and so much for some stupid painting (I used to have dealings with art collectors, and people paid over 50k for stupid pencil sketches my 3 year old niece could do better)

So yeah wear whatever makes you feel better and doesn't take you to the poor house, and if you don't like it chalk it up as a mistake and try to do better next time.

Even if one were to grant the idea that your speedmaster is worth vastly less than what you paid for it in "real value for materials and quality" that doesn't make it a scam.

If I advertised oranges for sale for 150 bucks each, it wouldn't be a scam either, it would just be really fucking overpriced oranges. The people who buy them were not 'scammed out of 150 bucks,' they simply made a choice to overpay.

Expensive watches do derive a lot of their price from things like water resistance, excellent case finishing, movement decorating etc -- which do not show you the time any better -- but they often do have higher quality crystals that are more clear with more effective anti-reflective coatings and higher quality lume or tritium. Both of which do literally effect how the watch shows the wearer time.

Just saying.

To me, that might be a slight issue since i can't exactly go and visit Mr.Shane down in Toronto.

Which leaves me with the option of sending it off to either Spencer Klein or to god knows where to get it serviced. And i trust Spencer, him servicing a friends 6619 Sportsmatic (that has an incredible history behind it), and doing both a great job and also wonderful customer service in the process.

The big issue is that it's going to take between two to three months until he receives and services it.

My local watchmaker does a decent job when given a cheap Seiko or a Slavwatch, but when shown a 5206 cal he said he'd rather not risk it as he's unsure on both how to properly service it and where to get parts. (Despite them being rather easily found)

So i guess a 5740C is the way to go.

KEKS, you'd better be trolling, nigga.

If true, so, you're either a poor kid and cannot get a job yet, or you're a NEET.

Anyway, you can ask at your local Salvation Army place or any analogue organization for a free watch, I have heard of good affordable-tier vintages there. Maybe some old chump's timex or a scratched f-91w.

And take care of yourself and go get a good job as soon as possible.

Use your 10 bucks for something else more useful that would take you out of that, like a mid-tier good shirt and/or pants.

Then go get a job, or if you cannot go outside without issues, look for state social-security therapy. If you even get to flip burgers, eventually you can buy a way nicer watch than what you'll get for less than 10 bucks, and lot's of extra quality of life, self-reliance and satisfaction.
>>
>>57051136
You can regulate that down to around +-3
The 7s26 is surprisingly good accuracy wise, just don't bang it around.
>>
>>57051136
Thanks!

So that isn't too bad.

>>57051320
Not the same guy, but how would one do that?
>>
>>57051331
There's plenty of guides out
The short of it is you play with the with regulating lever opposite the balance wheel
>>
>>57051331
Magic, (Kidding)

Learn what you'll do first.
Open it (with fucking care)
Look for the fucking red thing that looks like a robot eye.
Find the regulator.
Move it slightly to get the desired effect.
Test the watch accuracy later.
Rinse and repeat.
?????
Cum from a +-3 rating.

>>

>I'm scared
You should be.
You can pretty much fuck up a watch(mechanism and finishings) if you don't know what you're doing.
You can get to experiment first with cheap mechanical watches, like ebay chineses. Then go for the real thing.

And don't forget to buy the right tools for the job first, like in as otto frei.
>>
>>57051481
I mean, you don't need a $300 set of Bergeon tools to regulate a Seiko... use something sticky to get the caseback off (or if you have something that can actually screw it, even better), use a plastic toothpick to adjust the regulator, screw the caseback back on.

however

>use something sticky to get the caseback off (or if you have something that can actually screw it, even better),
Yes, you're right, specially at the toothpick part, and it seems that you know what you are doing, but telling some noob to JUST open it with whatever you can open it with it's bad advice, it will give some scratching to that watch and/or fuck up the water resistance.

Even getting some cheap tools from ebay is way better than noobs improvising their own tools at home with only lack of knowledge as tutor.

If you were thinking "I'd like to own 24 expensive watches over the next two years" it may be cheaper to go thru them than buying and selling that many watches (unless you're 100% private transfer with no taxes or fees)

If you're thinking you'd actually like to own an expensive watch, no.

I'm going away for grad school soon, and I don't think it's a good idea to take my watches with me, or even to take an expensive watch.
So far I'm taking my X201 and clothes, plus a coffee maker and rice cooker.
All that's left is the watch,
I was thinking a turtle, but I would love it too much to abuse it, and would feel really fucking bad if I lost it/if it got stolen.
That brings me to the MDV106. Diver + quartz means its completely resistant to daily activities, and I won't have to take it off even when showering and whatnot. It's cheap, has a bezel for timing and looks it it would look great on a nice perlon.
My only problem is the shitty lume.
Is there another cheap and reliable diver like this, or do I have to put up with the shitty lume and get this one?
Also as you probably guessed, I'm broke (just applying to schools was 700 bucks) and would like to keep costs down because I'll be spending a fuck ton of money this year and won't be able to have anything close to a steady job once I move.
>>
>>57053061

>>
>>57053078
>I was thinking a turtle, but I would love it too much to abuse it
Abuse it. It will gain character.

Also, SKX007 was produced for 20 years. Don't be too shocked if the turtles are as well eventually you may retire your turtle but be able to obtain a new one easily. you could easily have be in the year 2038 telling someone
>this turtle I wore from 2016-2033 and this one I got late 2033 till today
>>
>>57053087
There is also a partially depicted Harry Winston in the background.

This website is nothing more than a bait on the ignorant and gulibles.
>>
>>57053110
I really hate watch abuse, and will baby even my cheapest casio digital.
I'm autistic about this shit
And I was thinking about it from another way, I love the turtles design and really wanted to get a vintage one for a while before it was announced, but if I wear it day in day out I'm afraid I'll get bored of it and start hating the design.
The final thing is that $320-370 is the price of an SSD and a redmi (things I'll definitely need), as much as I love watches I don't really NEED one, y'know.
I'm guessing the MDV106 is the only thing that fits my retarded criteria?
>>
>>57053187
When I say 'abuse it' I just mean use it.
>>
>>57053225
I'll be working in chemical labs, plus I've never stayed in a dorm before so I really don't want to be forced to baby my watch.
I'm the type of watch autist who will scrutinize every little facet of my watches.
My Amphibia for example has never even had a drop of water touch it (meanwhile I always talk about it's adaptive WR and all that shit) and I've kept the arcylic pristine even after almost two years of ownership.

So yeah. I'm really autistic about this

You are confusing the Seiko 4r35, based on the 7s26, with the 4s15 which is a modern update of the Seiko 52xx series from the 70s.

It is 28,800 bph movement with a micro-adjuster for the regulation and is directly comparable in quality and inherent accuracy to an ETA 2892-A2.
