I tried carrying too many things at once and fucked my N5 on Sunday. I reluctantly ordered a Nexus 6, even though I hate big ass phones and this is possibly the biggest besides the Mega.

I'm kind of regretting my decision, but it was only $170. It comes in the mail today. I'm really wary of it.

If money is no object, of course, the Edge meme just doesn't interest me. After that, probably the P9, then the iPhone, then the Priv if only because the keyboard is no use to me and can't root.

I'm torn on getting the V20, Axon 7, or Sony's new XZ.

I'm an audio fag so good audio recording and reproduction is a must. The Axon 7 and the XZ have front-facing stereo speakers which is wonderful, but the V20 seems like it's going to have a god-tier DAC and audio editing capabilities. I've heard the the Axon has one of the best DACs on the market as well, but I have now clue how the audio on the XZ will be.

The camera is something that's less important for me than the audio (hence why I'm not leaning towards a samsung or something similar), but it's still a really important feature for me. The Axon 7 has a pretty shitty camera, but it makes up for with the audio and price. The V20 will probably have the best camera, but I'm sure the XZ will be pretty good too.

Design-wise, the XZ wins out for me personally. I just like the boxy and sleek look of Sony's phones, the camera shutter button is also a really nice feature, as is the fingerprint sensor located to the side. The Axon 7 is definitely the ugliest, and the V20 is alright, I don't give a shit about the 2nd screen though.

I don't really care about the hardware that much, so that's not really an important factor for me, so I don't mind if the the XZ has only 3GB of RAM and those kinds of things.

TL;DR, I'm leaning towards the XZ, but the DAC and camera of the V20 will be a deal breaker if Sony's DAC is shit. The Axon 7 is clearly the loser in this situation, with it's shitty camera and all, but for the price and the DAC/front-facing speakers it's still has a shot, but I'll need the input of someone else to truly decide.

Ok, so after around 2 years of use my LG G3 shat itself. It continually turns itself off, even when in the process of turning on; it never actually comes on. I have ordered a new battery for it so hopefully that fixes it. But I'm thinking of getting a new phone anyway, here's what I'm looking for:

That's the phone I'm looking at too. I've had the Z3 for the last two years and the only thing I'd change about it is the fragile glass back. Thankfully that's been fixed with the metal body.

Sony phones aren't great for rooting since you lose some of the features of the phone, but it's quite close to stock Android. Sound quality of the Z3 was good, hoping the XZ will be just as good, if not better.

It depends on the phone model, if the particular model can be rooted without unlocking the bootloader, you wouldn't lose the TA partition which has all the DRM keys for Sony stuff. If not then unlocking the bootloader would wipe the TA partition since backing up the TA partition requires root

i've recently got to tinker though with 2 different priced LG phones from 2016 and they exceeded in OS optimisation and battery.

i will get an lg g5 tommorow to make further investigations on who'm to support in the next years.

i tried many phone vendors, but LG seems to be ultimately the best vendor to support latest technologies and playfull thinking, not scared about design choices at all.


if you buy Samsung, you support proprietary SoC and OS language. if Samsung really knew how to do it, they would make you drop the android boat for tizen but they're scared because many have accustomed to android already and its name

if you buy huawei, you buy a proprietary SoC literally all the time, which is not a bad thing but this gives huawei less customisability and they also gain much control of you with that. the build quality of all phones aren't bad, don't take me wrong, but their mantra spills all over chinese overlords which want to dominate

HTC is pretty nice but they lack the technological advantages over other brands, the same as OnePlus and other phonevendors which do nice handsets with good specs but no outstanding features because every chinesemanufacteurer can achieve the same quality of parts nowadays, what matters in the end is the OS integration and optimisation which is done very differently on each vendor.

if you have got an iphone, well you've got an iphone. it speaks for itself what you support with their ideology of "make everything wireless under our proprietary hood" and stuff

the LG G5 is a beast compared to my previously owned Huawei p9 for around the same money.

the only downside of this phone is that it gets hotter than any previous phone i owned, which isn't a problem since i don't stress my phones on daily tasks and don't game aswell.

i'm really understanding the hype around LG's focus on the camera, they really did a great job on perfecting it and you can even zoom in to access the 135 degree camera which is tuned equally but with a bit lessend details
