I have two smartphones right now;
>iPhone 6 Plus
>LG Risio
LG is fucking slow to update or they don't really update your shit at all.

I'm gonna use the iPhone until it no longer receives iOS updates, which might take some time.

But if I go Android again, which OEM actually supports their phones for a couple of years with updates? I know Nexus goes for at least two years, but I have no desire to root and flash ROMs, but I also have zero interest in buying a new phone just because such and such OEM stops giving me updates.

I just want my phone to be there to make calls, text, browse the net, and use a few dating apps. That's all I really care about, that and price. The fact that the iPhone SE is 400 bucks is still crazy but I doubt that Apple will go much cheaper than that unless they want to get more people onto their services.

You seem to be looking at two different things.

If you just want your phone to be available to do stuff, you don't need update support for the OS, do you?

As for support after 2 years, if Google itself doesn't go longer than that I doubt anyone else would. The 6S should be supported for at least 3 years though, my 5S is from 2013 and is getting iOS 10.

I was gonna make a seperate thread about this but whatever.

Recently traded in my GS4 for a Nexus 5X. I love it, but 16gb turned out to be too small for me (since only 10 is available initially, and my provider doesn't offer 32gb versions because the phone is so unpopular), so I'm going to switch to the Moto G4.

What am I in for?

My biggest concerns are software and build quality. I love that Moto is one of the only brands that doesn't clutter up the OS with bullshit (because I'm love with stock Android), but the camera app looks a bit iffy and the scale of the interface (like the nav bar) looks a bit bigger than I expected? And since the back is removable, should I expect creaking and bad quality? This 5X is solid as a rock and it's gonna be tough to part with it but I need that extra storage.

I want updates due to security. I know there is no such thing as a device that is 100% secure from malware or exploits (Just look at the funny cat and mouse game between Apple and jailbreakers) but it helps that if something major happens, I can at least get an update to patch it (hopefully).

iOS and Android, to be honest are so fucking similar that fighting over it is pretty silly. The biggest issue I have with a lot of the Android phones are the updates from OEMs.

What I mean like, the interface itself seems to be scaled up slightly, if that makes any sense. Look at these screenshots I just took from the 5X, and compare stuff like the status bar icons, the Google bar, and the dropdown icons on the Moto. The interface just feels like it's scaled up or something.

Also, does Moto use their own gallery app, or is Google Photos used as stock? Because I'd much prefer the latter, just give me the least amount of bloat possible. I guess a much easier way to ask this question would be "what apps have Moto implemented that have stock Google counterparts, like messaging or camera?"

iOS's ui/ux is far more attractive than Android's. Animations are all silky smooth with no dropped frames. It's intuitive and easy to use. Clean and minimal without being empty and wasteful. Android still hasn't fixed the back button. There is no consistent UI, google tries to push wasted white space, excuse me, I mean material, but most app devs don't care.

Grow up. I'm not even the other guy. What I am saying is that consider the amount of closed source hardware that is in even your Android phones. If you are going to make the argument about owning your phone, then you better have a fully open source smartphone where people can properly check even the hardware.

But yea, I wouldn't expect a fanboy of either brand to understand that.

So does that mean that Google photos is connected to the stock camera app? Like when you take a picture, it'll open right up to Goog?

Also if I were so inclined and wanted Google camera that bad, would there be any way for the lock screen slide-up shortcut to be changed to Google's? Like a "What app would you like to use?" dialogue when you have more than 1 camera installed? Or am I screwed on that part?

Pretty much. Despite Android being top dog in terms of market share, most people at most just change their wallpaper. So much for customization.

Now of course, there is the counter argument that you only have to spend like what, 15-45 min to make your phone the way you want it once then you don't have to worry about it, but when most people people buy a smartphone they aren't going to think about that. Not even poor people waste their time ricing their phones.

Ok, so while I was looking for my TV remote, I found an iPhone 4 in my couch. I've asked all my roommates, and people who have been to my house recently, and no one knows who it belongs to, nor has anyone claimed to have lost a phone.

It wouldnt charge initially, so I can't remember how, but I either turned it off completely or left it in recovery mode so it could actually charge.

It has no simcard, but is passcoded. I put in my simcard to get a 4G connection, and got a Facebook notification from someone I knew, which lead me to believe that someone else I knew had indeed lost this phone - but they continue to deny this. So I suppose this leaves it in my hands to reset. To be honest I don't even particularly want this phone, but I need a substitute while I wait for a new battery for my actual mobile to arrive.

The phone however won't actually connect to my computer or my laptop, and I've tried 3 different cables. I assume this is because of the passcode. Recovery mode doesn't change anything either. Have I just got a brick, then?
>>

Seems pretty durable to me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s6fDsvgmQc

The phone also performs as good as flagships when it is durability tested too:

I have a case and a tempered glass screen protector on mine and I am pretty confident that it will survive drops.

Kek, and shit like this is why Xiaomi will never be taken seriously. They'd rather sell their chinkshit to HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEs and Poos than to the European/American market because they would be fucked over by dem patent infringement lawsuits as well. In the meantime, you buy phones which need to configured by someone with the knowledge of how to install custom ROM and don't even have something as basic as LTE coverage because muuuh Chink frequencies.

I don't care if people who don't know how to flash a custom rom don't buy it or if it isn't sold in America. It is sold in China and India which are more than populated enough to sustain sales figures.

For most people the global stable rom which is what is sold in India is fine.

>LTE coverage

Lol, I'm in Australia and I get 4G perfectly fine. Sorry that you have to get jewed by the flagships and pay more money because you live in a country with shitty bands.

Sorry that you have to use the imperial system instead of metric.

Sorry that you have to put the month first when you write the date of something.

I'm sorry that you are American but it isn't the fault of Xiaomi.

Trust the 'serious' people who do false advertising and use copyrighted images without the holder's consent. Trust that the phone's cloud crap isn't sending all the shit to the Ministry of Information of the People's Republic of China which clearly has been proven.

It's pretty decent, it doesn't have better ram management either it just gets rid of all the bloat that the chinese and stable rom have which means you have more ram avaliable and better battery life. I don't really notice much difference though because I always have 1gb free ram even when running games.

>>
>>56323021
Nice. I assume it's already on MiUI 8?
>>
>>56323051
Yeah, although I don't think MIUI8 really changed much - at least from what I can tell the majority of the changes were superficial.

Users have been asking for better battery management and more focus on updating xiaomi phones to nougat, less bloatware etc. but mostly we get stuff that isn't really all that necessary.
>>
are there any phones in the 5 inches or smaller range left with decent romsupport? mi 5 looks nice but has currently not that many flawless roms and I don't think I want to use miui.

What ROM to get for Moto G4? And is there any point in getting one?
>>
>>56322794

>>
>>56323116
Stay stock. Moto aka Chinknovo has good ROMs.
>>
>>56323090
Yep, still waiting on marshmallow which I hear is in beta testing, so nougat is probably waaay off.
>>
>>56323143
Go into settings and change the toolbar settings. I have the stripe I prefer it desu.
>>
>>56323094
Redmi 3s? think I saw roms for it on xda.
>>
>>56323162
You don't really notice it imo because MIUI is snappy and beautiful but I'm sure that if they keep lagging behind there will be issues with apps not running correctly. At least they support their phones for a long time usually.
>>
>>56323163
Ah okay, I see my fail now. For that menu you first need to swipe right after you swiped down... meh, the stripe is just the one swipe down, so I guess I will stay with the stripe.
>>
>>56323184
Yeah iirc Mi5 is running marshmallow and it still misses some of it features, like google now on tap and doze. MiUI usually has their own replacement features for those things so they stick with their own solutions.
Hopefully nougat will come some day.
>>
>>56323229
Stripe is awesome.
>>
>>56323090
>but mostly we get stuff that isn't really all that necessary.

This, it seems most of the developers are not working on the core system components or bugs but rather on some unnecessary new features like a 23th way of taking screenshots and so on...
>>
>>56321798
Am I the only one hoping Nokia will seize the throne once more? Bringing back superior build quality, high survivability and long life. I'm probably being too optimistic, but it's a nice thought.
>>
/g/, give me advice, i want a chinese phone:

I need a phone with:
- B20 (800MHz) LTE support
- At least 3GB RAM
- Good CPU
- Dual sim
- Frequent updates
- At least 16, but rather 32 GB

Fingerprint scanner, USB Type C are not required per se, but they would be great. QI charging would be an extra

I don't care about the camera. Either 5 or 5.5" screen is OK

Budget is in the ballpark of $200.

My current choice is the Vernee Apollo Lite. Any better choices?
>>
>>56323172
seems like it has only a cm beta rom? although it is tempting when looking at the 4100 mah battery

I think it's because they want to be seen as the apple of China so they have made their android skin feel more premium and have more features than their competitors.

I personally prefer stock Android but MIUI is pretty decent compared to touch wiz or whatever Sony uses.

Their phones are really cheap so it doesn't seem like anyone in the West would need to go for more than 2 years on a Xiaomi product. As long as you have a tempered screen glass protector and a case you can basically spend $200 every two years and be completely lag less.

Moto X Pure Edition or Xperia Z3?

I really like the features the moto x pure offers. The only real iffy point I've heard about it is battery life, but it has quick charge 2 so I'm not terribly worried

Meanwhile I don't think i've ever read something positive about an Xperia outside of /spg/
