my budget is $200

I want a phone w/ a good cam and minimum 2 gb of ram (pref 3gb) and no lame 6.0 marshmallow

Mainly looking @ the Honor 5x and Moto G3

Hello goys,

I think I need an upgrade, I got a Nexus 5x on Project Fi, and it sucks dick lmao.
Do you guys have any recommendations?
I have a few simple needs:
Off Screen buttons
Expandable storage
Pretty good rear camera

the Redmi Note series looks okay, but the camera seems dookie.

I was thinking about the new sony's but they seem over priced, for standard specs

Price cap is like 500 - 600 USD
>>
Is the T-Mobile Jump program a scam? I don't know what they mean by zero down, will I basically be paying the price of a new phone if I have a LG G3 and trade it in?
>>
>>56295928

Are _we_ real?
>>
>>56295964
From what I've seen yes
I had an y330, terrible camera, shit software
A friend got a huawei with dual cameras, don't know which model but it was shit
Reviews on the dual camera modules say they're shit

Also the operating systems is pretty bad. I and my friend who also has a huawei don't receive Slack notifications when we are on mobile data for example

If you want a phone with a good camera stick to the big western brands (Samasung, Motorola, LG, maybe Oneplus)
Huawei is low tier chink brand
Xiaomi is good tier chink brand but cameras are average

About to purchase the Moto G3 because it's finally time to replace my moto x gen 1 that's currently on life support.

I'm getting the g3 because I don't want a 5-inch or larger screen. Considered the g4 play but it doesn't seem worth it and I'm tired of waiting.

Am I making a mistake with the g3? My Moto X is easily the best phone I've ever had, I wish they would just make another one with the same shape and size but updated specs

No idea about that one
Try to find reviews on the internet

The thing with phone cameras is that 50% of quality is given by the actual camera, the other 50% by the software. As you can imagine camera software ain't simple.
Big brands that are mature on the smartphone market have years of experience with writing camera software so it actually provides decent quality
Then a brand like Huawei comes into the market and straps two good cameras on a phone but are incapable of writing good software and the result is bad

Worked fine on my LG G3, but the HTC has some kind of adjustable auto brightness that you can increase or decrease the range of.

So you can set the brightness while it's on auto to control the effect of the adjustment, but I haven't really noticed it.

Also, I'm still trying to feel out the battery life, still on stock. Haven't gotten more than 4h.

see pic related. Ironically I actually own an SE. It'll probably end up being sold on ebay for like $250 by me because of a few scratches so go there if you want a better deal I guess. I only used it for about 3 months since I bought it unlocked.

iPhones suck but the SE really takes the cake. The super low res and tiny screen just don't cut it anymore for most things. Text looks blocky especially because you have to look at it 1 inch away on that tiny screen. That and all the problems in pic related have made me lose all hope in aplel phones.

Eh, some manufacturers have a few okay programs - I'm using the Blackberry keyboard on my LG device.
But for the most part user-developed apps are almost always the best and most supported programs.
After all, more and more users are wanting manufacturers to just stick with a lightweight, more stock Android skin.

>>56299447
Probably Android - not just coming from an anti-Apple /g/ autismo, but if you're tech literate whatsoever, just pick a phone best for your uses / budget.
And how poorfag we talking?
Really generic answers, I'd say:
BLU Advance 5 is $60.
Huawei Honor 5X is $190.
Moto 4G Plus is $250.
OnePlus 3 is $400.

>>56299647
Common sense, and don't download apps from outside the Google Play Store, and you'll be fine.
Most phone security flaws come from apps outside of the store, since Google and Apple both scan / remove any apps that are found to contain any viruses or security risks.

If you really just want a phone for nothing but that, there's the Blu Tank II for $18 off Amazon.

MicroSD slot for up to a 32 GB card.
1,900 mAh battery is comparable to flagship phones, minus the power-hogging hardware. (Razr was 740 mAh battery)
Bluetooth capable.
Can be a mp3 player.

I bought an s7 edge and i'm really getting annoyed at how hard the thing is to hold without activating some button or it interfering with me trying to press something else, but the phone is confused because it sees me pressing something but then it also sees my palm pressing the edge of the screen due to the touch screen rolling around the side.

I'd return it and get a regular s7 if I could but since I got it from ebay that's not an option.

i do! last month's bill was $30 something, i think. that's for two phones w/ 500 mins, 1000 messages, and 500 mb, i believe.

don't really need unlimited data since there's wifi at home and at work. not a heavy phone user so it makes no sense to pay more than necessary.

>>
So I've got a Moto G4 from Amazon.co.uk for 150GBP. Liking the phone so far, but have one issue. Since I've got it from UK, it has the UK Fast Charging plug that is UK three-pin. My question is, if I use three-pin to two-pin adapter, will it work for Fast Charging, or I am better off buying original two-pin?
>>
>>56296054

Ting CDMA is tough to justify over RingPlus, especially since their cheap Mad plans fixed the main issue that'd justify going to a different Sprint MVNO (voice latency) and their free plans are some of the best for conservative data power users.

GSM is pretty competitive, though. They also have very good customer service; I would definitely be considering them if I wasn't on Sprint/RingPlus and if I was running multiple light usage lines. If I ran one GSM or Verizon line, I'd probably run the one year of Red Pocket deal, though, as it gives 1000min/1000txt/500mb a month for under 20 dollars a month, or maybe the 2gb T-Mobile data only plan for around 20 a month using Google Hangouts.

I feel confident and knowledgeable enough handling complex or questionable services for cheap (See: RingPlus or Freedompop respectively), but honestly I could feel comfortable recommending Ting to just about anyone. I'm spoiled due to awareness, but most people do save a ton on Ting compared to the big four and would probably prefer their customer service, too...

Green is the dominant color in this mode, but it's still technically speaking more accurate.
Could always disable it and go back to default, non sRGB mode if you want to, though.

I've no idea, in the previous spg thread i've read a lot of "the display is shit" comment. The only thing i can think abouth that's wrong with the display is the PenTile pixel disposition which result in a lower resolution. Not sure if it's something i will effectively notice though...

Just take a peek over at aliexpress. They have tons of these headsets. You can get them starting from 80c but then you'll get a cardboard box one. I've got a plastic one with adjustable lens width. Hey guys, lurker here.

I would like to buy a new smartphone, my good old Galaxy SIII has had more and more random crashes and whatever ROM changes or reset I do doesn't seem to fix anything.

My budget is up to 400$, Android, easy to flash, if possible on the small side, specs at least as good or better than my old SIII with a decent camera, EU/US/Aus compatible.

Thanks for your help !

Hi /spy/, I'm buying my mom a refurbished Note 4 on Thursday. Anything I should look out for? Should I even buy a refurbished phone to begin with?
>>
>>56304892
Either the 5x or the new smaller Nexus if it's cheap enough to fit in your budget.

>>56305272
My current phone as bought refurbished from Swappa (moto x pure) and it worked out fine. Just make sure you don't cheap out too much and buy her a slightly damaged device.

It's $250. I asked to see some of their other refurbished phones and they looked brand new besides some finger print smudges. I'm more worried about the phone potentially crapping out on her but since it's only a 2 year old phone (at most) I doubt that's likely anyway.

I'm on T-Mobile US.

Basically looking between a couple different phones. I don't really game except for some weeb 2D mobage shit, mostly text and internet/youtube usage. I use wifi almost everywhere possible so 4G isn't the most important for me, but at least 3G is important. Other things very important are micro SD and a 3.5mm jack.

Redmi 3 Pro (Should I get the prime variant with 3GB of RAM or is 2 fine?) Con being it doesnt have 6.0 yet but it's in testing. Camera doesn't bother me since I don't take many pictures.

Huawei Honor 5X which is on sale for $160 this week but is arguably weaker than the redmeme, however I could return to a US store if I encounter issues. I really like the UI from what I've tried of it. It already has 6.0.

Meizu m3 note (I heard the m2 was more powerful but surely that can't actually be possible?) I'm really a fan of AMOLED devices.

No matter what it'll be a major upgrade, I'm coming from a Galaxy Note II that is really showing it's age at this point.
>>
>>56310408
Redmi 3s is better than Redmi 3. but you only get one 3G band (1900MHz) and that's it. no 4G and 3G will be wonky as well.

Honor 5X has same specs as R3 and it does have band 2, 4 and 12 so it does have the correct bands.

Meizu is mediakek so I'd stay away from it.

How about Moto G4? same specs and price.
>>

>holy shit this phone is shitty
>forced to use it otherwise I would throw it away
>get a chinkphone
>friend is poor and desperately needs a smartphone
>"Okay poor friend, you can have my old phone. I should just do a factory reset first."
>reset goes smoothly
>"Now to just enter in all of the google data so I you can..."
>keyboard wont show up
>"Umm okay, I'll just skip everything until I get to the homescreen and see if i can fix it there"
>lolnope we need all your google info typed out bitch nigga -LG
>entire activation process resets to the beginning
>no way out of this LG activation screen
>no way to go to settings or homescreen
>all of the workarounds I've watched either include face buttons which this phone does not have or go through accessibility settings I do not have access to because nothing is ever easy
>"okay i'll just flash it and see if that fixes it"
>phone refuses to boot up in recovery or download mode
>wont show up when plugged into my PC despite all of the drivers installed
>been screaming at this fucking phone for about 7 hours now trying to make ANYTHING happen

I've never been so frustrated with a piece of tech in all my life.

So what probably happened was because the original keyboard it came with was really shitty (just like the rest of the phone) I replaced it with the google keyboard from the play store and upon reseting the phone it deleted the google keyboard without restoring the original keyboard.

Is it a brick now or is there some way, any possible way I can get out of this LG activation purgatory? I feel so defeated.

Hello /g/
What do you think about Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro?
3gb / 32gb ("prive" version)
I chose this phone because of the low prices and this phone support twrp/cyanogenmod (i look like a fuckin kid, but why not?)
sry for my potato english
>>
>>56311335
It's a fucking shitter phone. Nothing you can do about it.
>>
>>56311335
lol chinkshit
>>
Buy a Galaxy S7/Galaxy S7 Edge or wait for Zenfone 3 Deluxe?
Any other cost/benefit suggestion?
>>
hello /g/
thoughts on purchasing a 6p right now?
>>
>>56311388
>every fucking thread

No to 5x
no to 6p

Literally wait for the new nexus phones.
>>
>>56311335
It's the best bang for your buck and an excellent phone. don't listen to the two pajeets above, they rather get iCucked with their $700 iShits.

Buy it from TopOne or HKGoldway for best prices and global rom.
>>
>>56311377
Buy the Galaxy S7. It's not a crappy shitter, unlike Zenfone.

>>

Is there any big difference between the standard and the Edge version?

People are impatient. And Google is gonna take so long that some potential buyers like myself MIGHT just buy another phone
>>
>>56311436
Not really. The edge thing sure looks cool and is fun for a while, but really man, just another gimmick after all.
>>
>>56311436
The Edge comes with fingerless gloves.
>>
>>56311451
I meant not so obvious differences.

I meant the Redmi Note 3 Pro with the Snapdragon processor. From what I understand it's much more powerful than the Honor 5X but the Honor 5X seems to get more frequent updates
>>
I have a S7 which is being a piece of shit. Bottom line is I need to send it in for "repair" which is slated for 4-6 weeks.

I am looking at either nexus 5X or the new Sailfish. Can I go wrong with the 5x?

I would sell my S7 after it comes back from "repair". Fuck Samsung.
>>
>>56311950
From one piece of shit to another!
>>
>>56311902
Well you got it messed up.

Redmi 3 - SD616 5".
Redmi 3s - SD430 5".
Redmi Note 3 Pro - SD650 5.5".
Honor 5X - SD616 5.5".

Yes RN3P is much faster than Honor 5X and the smaller Redmi's.

On t-mobile you'll get H+ and maybe 4G depends where you are.

Redmi gets lots of updates actually, they just released MiUi 8 few days ago and Android 6.0 for it is in beta test and will probably come out in few weeks.

It's a better device overall. not sure what bands Honor 5X supports on t-mobile though so check that out first.
>>
>>56311950
The 5x is... decent.
>>
do you guys use a screen protector
>>
>>56312011
Honor 5X fully supports T-Mobile 4G LTE. So assuming I can get them for the same price I should go with the Redmi Note 3 Pro. Do I go with the base 2GB RAM model or the 3GB?
>>
>>56311092
Have a microSD slot? Cause that can sometimes split a collection into multiple folders, depending on how you added it to your device.
>>
>>56312060
3GB is more future proof. also MiUi takes a lot of RAM to itself so keep that in mind.

If you can buy the Honor locally go for it though, you'll get support and full compatibility which could be troublesome on the RN3P.

Some anons said they got full H+ and 4G coverage in the city but I've seen reports that some people didn't even get 3G in other area so it's a gamble.

I got it.
You gotta go to Apps, External Storage & Media Storage and delete the cache and data.
Then it works.

What Android bullshit. I sometimes hate it because of stupid shit like that.
>>
>>56312122
I can buy Honor 5X at my local best buy for $159 new and it has a 1 year warranty. Probably will go with that then for peace of mind unless someone else can give an especially good reason to take the Xiaomi over it
>>
>>56312122
I own an Honor 5X, and honestly the stock software on it was so shit I had to install CM. It still runs like garbage compared to my old N5. Lags at every opportunity, apps freeze and crash, sometimes you will tap on something and then 10 seconds later the action is performed.

It's entirely possible I'm just retarded, so if anyone has any idea how to make the phone run well I'm all ears.
>>
>>56312076
>>56312206
I did reformat it the first time I got it in and the folder are all nice and tidy.
It is just those open source buggy android nonsense.
>>
>>56312235
Is that the 2gb version? I assume it is because $170 is the cheapest I could find it online. seems like a good price.

The 3gb is ~$195.

Best free music player that doesn't look like cancer and supports folder playing and m4a?
I used Poweramp with Lucky Patcher when I had a rooted phone but I got a new one and don't want to root it just yet.
