I do.

I sold off a lot of my pieces over time (Both Seiko and non Seiko) so my collection varies from time to time.

Looking to get another Swiss piece (Vintage/Dress/Auto) and an NY0040, though i got a 8346 in the mail.

Seiko made the first solar Quartz movement, so no, the Eco-drive is not "genius"

the eco drive is different, lasts longer and does not need you to replace the power cell, 20+ years without having to fuck with your watch in any way

better than the movement you came up with

Different anon chiming in.

The on-board hardware ages quickly (Not necessarily planned obsolescence) with each software update making it less and less usable (especially on earlier models), the screens at times are not legible enough in conditions of harsh sunlight (Depends on the model), subpar battery life leading to both it failing to be a reliable time keeper and daily charging and the limited to no existent waterproofing is a big nope.

Now, the subpar battery life that lasts between 24~48hours at most depending on usage is the biggest obstacle here. Since they must be constantly connected to a mobile phone to receive alerts on emails, messages, call and etc the battery life will drain quickly. 3G supporting models are an interesting idea, but don't quite nullify that issue.

As they sit right now they aren't quite mature enough, with loads of space to improve. Though it seems that most companies have slowed down on this lately.

>>56287297
I understand that these are more guidelines than anything, but they do explain as to how a watch strap is held in place (more or less)

Guess i ought to add a few lines for dummies when i release the next update of it. Updated version with is somewhere on my laptop, which i can't seem to find after moving (Which i hoped i didn't forget at the base).

I got this neat box the other day. I don't even use the Polar anymore because the HRM that came with it is busted.

The steel fossil is the first watch I ever owned, my mom gave it to me when I was young and we had very little. I need to get a new battery for it. Probably the reason I bought the second fossil, sentimental transference or something.

trouble with Apple products is that before new hardware comes they push out OS upgrades that cripple old machines to provide a more dramatic """improvement""" for new hardware. I would not put past them that they even slowed the clock.

Anyways the hardware is way overkill. A 1 GHz Snapdragon is only used because the programmers for these watches are the equivalent of the frankenwatch "repairmen". The result is more bad programmers and hardware that sucks batteries dry in a day.

It is strange to think that the first spreadsheet ran in 48 KB on a 1 MHz 8-bit processors but then again that was a different class of programmers.

What can anybody tell me about this? Got it as a gift a few years back, never found much about it or the brand, and the site has long since failed. If it is just unknown, how is the accuracy? Been testing it out all today, it appeared to be running alright until a sudden huge deviation. Could that be from lack of winding? Its an automatic, but I like to wind it once a day at least, if not 2-3 times. Is that bad?
Any help would be appreciated.

The most likely answer is because it's a """""quality""""" chink movement. Also you shouldn't need to hand wind an automatic watch at all except for when first putting it on after not having worn it for a couple days or more.

Uses ETA 2824 and 20atm water resistant.

Looks decent and since the crown is big, screwing down the crown wont be a hassle. (I hate manual wind/screw down crown on watches with small crowns)

It's 950$ though, would seriously consider if its 500$. I kinda like the design.

Visited a jewelers shop, of which the owner of is a good friend of the family. After a bit of digging around i found a stash of vintage Seiko rubber straps. Quite a few interesting and unusual, most in poor shape. No waffle straps i'm afraid.

Though a lot of genuine GL branded ones like pic related are in tip top shape, and unlike most of the reproductions on jewbay. Much comfier than the regular Z22 and much thinner/lighter as well.

Are you referring to the Amphibia? Since that's an automatic.

Otherwise, the modern Komandirskies (2414A movements) are pretty good and the slightly older ones that have both older 2414A and 2409 movements are as well.

The much older 22XX based Komandirskies are alright in most cases, but being older they are much prone to being in shit shape.

Batterymonkey anon here. Every time a Timex comes in for a battery change I shudder knowing 60% of the times they don't start up, because they're busted and I'll have to go through the song and dance again that I wasn't the one that fucked it up.

Their internals are garbage, the movement is to cheap to be even made in China, it was thrown together in the Philippines, and the whole design is poorly thought out, putting them together is a pain in the ass, and like I said a lot of times they're just dead.
>>
>>56307250
Both are more or less equally reliable, but has their own advantages.

The Komandirskie (or Amphibia) is much more rugged and can take a beating, can easily achieve good accuracy when regulated, and the scratches can be buffed out. Also, much cheaper.

The Seiko 5 has a better accuracy out of the box, mineral crystal compared to acrylic, display caseback, and a slightly higher beat movement (21600 vs 19800, not like it really makes that big of difference). All models are automatic.

Both can survive a long time without servicing, Seiko 5's were shown to run 10~20 years, while Vostoks are advertised (rightfully so) to have a 10 year service interval.

Waterproofing wise they are both rated the same but i'd trust the Dirskie more, since they were shown to survive up to 5ATM in some cases.

>2 years and 8 months total, 2 years left to go though. And national service here is a completely different thing.
Pretty demanding I hear. News here is of course full of it, "foreign" is very limited to the journalists. 2 years 8 months is a lot, I thought it was 2 years since a friend of mine did 2 but is a she, not a he. Hang on in there.

They do pay me a bit extra per month since i get my ass handed to me on a regular basis. At least i live in better conditions there than most.

2 years was the regular term of service for females, 3 years for men. 6 months ago~ it was changed to 2 years 4 months for women and 2 years 8 months for males. Combat soldiers still do 3 years.

Not trying to diss your warm memories, but if that was your only fossil it would have been acceptable.

But a box filled with dogshit ain't.

It's easy on those as they have drilled lugs. Basically there is a hole in the lugs that you can use to compress the spring pin from the outside.

>offered to do it for $125
>new NH35A which is the same movement used in newer SKX and Turtles is $50 from ebay
>wanted to change the dial to a suburst pepsi and bezel anyways
Should I do this? I just need some watchmaking tools, a movement swap would be easy.
>>
>>56310136
It could be magnetized to start with, and you need to do a few modifications to fit a 4R36 (clearance for the movement, being different dimensions).

Another issue of fitting a 4R36 compatible stem into an SKX crown. Which i recall an anon over here botched or was unable somehow.

>>56310074
You really can't deny Fossil's are dogshit.
>>
>>56310136
Just swap the movement yourself.

What you need:
-caseback wrench
-hand remover tool
-plastic dial protector (you can just use any kind of plastic lying around)
-tweezers (preferably brass, non-magnetic and can't scratch steel)
-movement holder
-rodico
-hand setters

Steps to replace movement:
-unscrew caseback
-use a toothpick or brass tweezers to push in a button that releases the crown
-pull out crown while crown release button is pressed
-remove the entire movement from the watch case
-put movement in movement holder dial up
-remove hands using hand remover with dial protector
-disengage dial latches on the side of the movement using a small screwedriver
-remove dial
-install dial on new movement and lock into place by engaging the latches with a screwdriver on the sides of the movement
-install hands using rodico (stick hands to rodico and then stick-em to the pins), and then push them on firmly with hand setters
-install new movement into the case
-screw in caseback, make sure gasket is in place

I'll post a picture of all the tools in a bit
>>
>>56310218
Couldn't you replace it with the same movement that's already there? Or can you not buy 7s26 anywhere?
>>
>>56310218
The old ones aren't great quality (including my first). The newer ones are much better, but they are overpriced. If you can get them for half off what Fossil wants to charge, they aren't bad.

At least they are making an attempt to making things that are a step above fashion watches. No doubt they have a big hole to dig themselves out of.

On a related note, they now have swiss made stuff that starts at around $500 I think, some of it looks cool... some is just weird.

I think part of the reason they went nuts starting other brands (Michael Kors, Burberry, etc) is so that they could still make fashion watches but use Fossil to try to get into 'real' watches. In the end, they probably should have just chosen a different brand name, but in the end it is what it is. It's a budget mechanical watch they are charging a little too much for.

Not the first watch, but probably the first one that wasn't total kiddie dogshit. I got it when I was in primary school and it still works today.

The first watch I bought myself was my trusty Amphibia.
>>
>>56310251
Somebody said the NH35 is not the same size as the 7S26, do you think the NH36 would fit better?
>>
>>56310441
35 and 36 are exactly the same with the exception of day complication.
>>
>>56310296
The quality has very slightly improved over time, but that's the quality of the Chinese manufacturers that has improved. Not necessarily the movements nor the pricing. They still do produce the same disgusting Tag huehue tier models along with more plain looking models which are both overpriced for what they offer.

And the so called Swiss line usually has the same Ronda/ETA quartz as lower grade Swiss watches (which are inferior to Jap quartz) and automatics with clones of the 2824 (STP1-11). The automatics aren't too bad but charging 400~500$ for a base grade 2824-2 is too much.

>>56310273
>>56310441
Yup.

You could easily find a 7S26/NH36 and just slap it in. And they go for about 50~60$.
>>
>>56308726

>>

>>

>>
>>56310486
Thanks, I might try it. Before I landed a real job I used to work as an apprentice watchmaker. They never let me touch mechanical watches, but I am good enough to fix quartz 90% of which is just changing the coil.
>>
>>56310522
I'd still check if it's magnetized, or open it up to check for obvious broken bits before slapping a new movement in.

Also, you're going to have to remove the hands (hand puller) and the dial.
>>
>>56310136

>new NH35A which is the same movement used in newer SKX

Wait what? I didnt know this. Got any links?
