posting image again. I really like the look of this. I guess it's called 'pilot' or 'aviation' style?

I haven't found anything with the seconds as a complication like this one. The orient wingman isn't bad, but doesn't look as nice as this one IMO.

I'm open to alternative suggestions, but for $99 this doesn't seem too bad. I can't find any hate for the brand online.

>>
>>56317034
Steinshit shill here, why get that when you can get this instead!

-Sapphire crystal
-Unitas 6497 mechanical movement(ETA clone basically, however I have yet to hear anything bad about them)
-Super Luminova hands
-Hands heat blued and not painted
$149

Yes I know its more but you are also getting a ton of watch. Anyway I still think Techne is shit...
>>
>>56317237
Steinhart don't use "fake" ETA clones, they use the real thing, TOP grade actually on their more expensive PREMIUM line. Keep going though your butthurt is hilarious.

>-Unitas 6497 mechanical movement(ETA clone basically, however I have yet to hear anything bad about them)

Holy shit you can't even fucking get your shilling right. It's not a fucking close of anything Unitas is ETA. Unitas was a movement manufacturer who through various mergers and buyouts and such eventually became part of ETA. Some people just like to use the old name to refer to specific movements.

Want to sell my G-Shock GW-6900 Tough Solar Atomic matte black watch for a solid hand winding watch. Is there anything a little more simplistic looking than the Vostok Komandirskie with similar accuracy and overall build quality (willing to negotiate on ruggedness as long as it is well made) in the below $70 price range? I'd be willing to go to $100 if necessary but would like to just spend the $70 I hope to make when selling the GW-6900. Thanks for any and all input.
>>
>>56317364
He's obviously trying to make Steinhart look bad, look I am no shill but Steinhart is a very good brand in the same league as Sinn actually in terms of quality.

Bretty good from my experience.

The 420 case is nice but the short lugs are somewhat of a turn-off for some people, and there are other case styles as well.
>>
>>56318650

Out of just those two the 356. I think divers type bezels look completely wrong and out of place on pilots watches.

What's the best looking pilot watch under 2k?

>>56318682
Im not 100% on the case yet, I think the blue scuba dude with no numeral, just indicies only comes in 420

I'd definitely put it on a strap of some sort so I guess the lugs would matter a bit

So this came today and I followed the instructions - place watch on top then hold red button and slowly lift watch upward. Am I doing it correctly? It doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference before and after with the compass test (watch moves the phone compass by about 10-20 degrees). However, it wasn't significantly magnetized to begin with (started gaining ~10 sec a day composted to losing ~2 previously), so hopefully whatever minimal magnetism affecting the movement is neutralized now.

I also did it to my other watches just in case. It has no chance of magnetizing an un- magnetized watch if I don't do it properly, right?

Any idea what country made Piratron? I got an LED watch from a friend of a friend to fix, but I can't find any real info about the manufacturer or the movement. Should be some shorting circuitry though.

Pic related, it's this exact model only worn to the brass completely and missing the bracelet. I think I'll put a Casio terrorist bracelet on it for him.

Bambino. I've had one before though that that particular model; solid dress watch with an in house movement and (some at least) resell value which is rare for low end watches.

Despite being used in entry/mid grade watches of the time, the 754X series of quartz movements were quite well built in comparison to later models (Like the 7C4X movements, which had many plastic parts that were prone to deteriorate), being made mostly out of metal and were known to be very robust and long living..

And an example of a 7456 based Silverwave and the soon to be serviced LM special.

I have that exact watch, first watch I bought when getting into the hobby. Had one for 2 years now, pic related.

The strap, despite being cheap, is really good. It breaks in quickly, it's comfortable, it doesn't fray, and the notches don't fray either. Also, it's not that green in person, more olive green than grass green. My picture is fairly colour accurate.

It's a great watch, the styling of the case hasn't grown on me, but it's worth every bit of $120.

>>
>>56327258
Yeah, they do make quality watches, and i respect what they do 100x more than brands like Michael Kors and all the fashion branded watches that rip off Hublot or AP designs, desu i'd wear a Steinhart over a TAG, but as long as they copy the Sub there'll always be a stigma
>>
>>56326752
Very flat caseback with slightly turned-down lugs, I forget it's there, it's very comfortable.

It's generic polished stainless steel, it'll get scratches, and you'll most likely not care. The glass didn't get scratched until I ground it against a stone wall when moving furniture, and even then only a hairline.

I will say this; if I was going to buy a solar-powered quartz watch again, knowing what I now know, I would have gone for something like a Citizen "excalibur" promaster diver. I don't regret buying the Seiko one bit though.
>>

i'm disappointed steinhart didn't find a good memey play on words to run around the inside
>>
>>56327400
>but as long as they copy the Sub there'll always be a stigma
Oh absolutely.

The Submariner has had so much 'homage' paid by every watch brand going that it's just insulting at this point.

The OVM is what a homage should by in my opinion, a recreation of a rare vintage piece with a great design. And should be done properly, not end up being sold for $15 in walmart. Like any Michael Kors watch should be.
>>
>>56327428
>i'm disappointed steinhart didn't find a good memey play on words to run around the inside
I'm kind of glad they didn't else it would just be a shameless rip. It's bordering on that already, even with the attempted novel on the dial.

>designed a lubricant-free escapement
>designed a surface-hardening technique for steel and titanium
>designed a dehumidifying system
>designed an oil-filled diver

So, as far as I'm concerned, they're making a meaningful contribution to the advancement of watchmaking.

Clockmaking tradition. Most watches and clocks with Roman numerals do this since the 17 th century, in order to maintain symmetry (same # of characters per side of dial) and to minimize the number of molds needed to cast them.

That's about right, the newer variation (I think came out in 2014, pictured is from 2011) has an additional $600 premium on it as well.

Not the hugest fan of the chrono and the smaller hour ring on the inside of the circle.

The only minor issue, and this is really minor, is that the seconds hand is not lumed.

Any idea where I can still find 0.1" segmented displays (7 and 14 segment variants)? Smallest I found is .2. I need to restore an old LED watch and the wire bonding is fucked.
>>
>>56340165
Probably no one is going to sell you just one (or less than 1000). You're probably better off finding a watch that has what you want and doing a transplant.
>>

12, 3 and 6 are like that. Not 9. Notnsure what that means but it looks to be built that way
>>

Already tried finding a donor, these things are extinct. My only hope of fixing the watch is replacing the glued-on/wire bonded displays with ones that have pins and connect them to the circuitry by soldering.

So, any idea where to cop a segmented led component with a .1" digit height?
