Yeah, it works great, and the setup disk lets me adjust the colour/shade settings, it writes it into the cards memory and it persists between boots.
>>
>>56183206
Oh yeah, that's right. I ran a VIP in my other one for a while, it was pretty nice.

This one's too damn immaculately stock though, maybe I'll find an HGC for it down the road but honestly MDA isn't all that bad if you're not as much into the gaming side of things, beats the fuck out of CGA for sure.

I can't seem to find the pinout for the power connector, I bet there must be some info about it, other wise you have to let some tech savvy dude figure it out for you.

My guess is building one yourself is still easier than finding one.

Wait, does it emulate Hercules, CGA and EGA like the EGA Wonder?

Also, does it do CGA/EGA colors in shades of green?

I remember wanting an EGA Wonder for that reason, is the VGA wonder basically the same with just an addition of VGA?

I've never tried any Hercules stuff, but yes to the rest of your questions.
>>
>>56183546
I really need to get one, right now I can only do Hercules and CGA and monochrome EGA, it would be neat to actually have "colors" on a old MDA monitor.

The VGA does not do VGA on a MDA monitor tought, right?

Yurop here, I had an XT box with Hercules back in the 90's and also a XT clone I picked up a while ago had a HGC in it, replaced it with an EGA card that does Hercules and CGA.

I wish there were more ways to make ancient tech useful in everyday life. It makes me seriously sad that machines that were once technological marvels now sit in musty attics and dumps, never again to serve the one purpose they had. Computers ought to meet their ends in service, not rotting away in some dark place somewhere.

It's enough to make me consider developing software for legacy operating systems, in hopes that it keeps some of these old beasts in use, doing what they do best.

So I recently acquired this Apple ][e setup (pic related)

Anyone here knowledgable on loading games off the internet via the cassette tape input port?

I have use the ADTpro software to successfully bootstrap ProDos and the ADT software, but am at a roadblock now. How do I get .dsk images on the apple 2e?
>>

Just delete the old thread.

MS-DOS 6.22 or 7.0/7.1 with Win95/98.

What specs?
>>

I think you're just supposed to use those as dumb terminals for your raspberry pi.

I'm waiting for the CF card to arrive to replace Win95 with Win98 on my Compaq 486DX4, then I can also use my PCMCIA WiFi card, else I'd probably stay on Win95.
But yeah, by default it boots into DOS what I mainly use.

Just put the dsk images in the dsk image folder in ADTPro (or have it point to the folder you want). Format a floppy, hit receive, and type in the disk you want to transfer.

Awe PnP (I can't remember the model off the top of my head, wasn't crazy, had RAM interface and IDE for CD ROM (i only use this for CD-ROM and some audio shit)

So, ive gotten to that point. Whenever I hit receive the apple2e gives me a message that its waiting for the host to respond.

Do I need to have the apple 2 hooked up so it can "talk" to the host computer (my modern day macbook pro laptop)?

I only have it hooked up one way, since the macbook has a single all in one mic/headphone jack so right now the apple 2 can only receive cant transmit back to the laptop

fuck I hope that all made sense

I hate old computers. Anything older than a Core 2 Duo machine needs to be beaten with a sledgehammer.

Whenever I think back on the old computers I had, I just remember how slow and unresponsive they were. They belong in a trashcan.

A Core 2 Duo machine, as old as it is, is still a very functional computer to use for everyday uses. The only thing that a Core 2 Duo machine can't do that modern i5/i7 do is newer video games.

Silly question: has anybody tried making a SCSI connector thing that looks like a regular old disk to the computer it's connected to, but is actually a wifi bridge to storage on a modern computer? Or alternatively, the dongle would have flash storage aboard the device itself and would act as a server on a wifi network.

High PPI is superior. It's not a contest. 144hz might make UI animations look smoother, but that's about it. Then you also have to deal with the low quality IPS or "high quality" TN display and blurry thumbnails/text thanks to using a low PPI display.
It's almost 2017, there's no excuse to be using 90s resolutions.

industrial grey ones are, square label grey ones go for 800+. 99% are beige and only worth 20-30.

Anyone know why my Linux machine is reporting:
>dd: failed to open ‘/dev/fd0’: No such device or address
whenever I use dd to try to read/write a DS/DD floppy (with a real DS/DD floppy)? I have no problem writing DS/HD floppies.

I've noticed people tend to like Apple on /g/, so I fired up the old G5 and am attempting to get nouveau drivers up and running. It seems there are issues with newer kernel versions. Any other Mac faggots out there running kernel 3.16+?
>>
>>56187713
That's weird, I have no problems with a USB floppy drive with WinImage on Windows writing DD disks/images.
>>
>>56187713
>>56188344
Wait is this a USB floppy drive or an internal? I don't think a USB floppy would land on /dev/fd0, but I could be wrong. Might be something fucked with udev rules.
>>
>>56188462
Internal.
>>
>>56188462
I think it's /dev/sd* usually, when using USB floppy.

But I guess he's is fd0, probably a real drive? Because it works with HD floppies.
>>
>>56187713
So you can write DD and HD images with dd using HD floppies? But not with DD floppies?

Couldn't get Noveau to work on my pci-e 2.0 before I bricked it. I haven't tested it on my 39 other G5s though

I'm having fun posting on my G4 that I found after a couple of years though.

Captcha is killing my machine right now
>>
>>56188548
Yeah, though the DD images on HD floppies really don't help anything as the devices with HD capable drives seem to get confused about why there's an 760 KB HD floppy and devices with DD drives still can't read them.
>>
>>56188568
How did you brick it?
>>
>>56188616
I changed the "little-endian?" boot variable from false to true and it never booted after that
It was my personal one too
>>
>>56188606
That's weird that it does not like DD disks... Can't seem to find an answer on Google right away
>>
>>56188635
In Open Firmware? Why would you even do that? Also, why don't you just reset it?
>>
>>56188685
>In Open Firmware?
Yes

>Why would you even do that?
I was curious.

I only pretend to be retarded, I swear

>Also, why don't you just reset it?
I've tried the SMU and removing the PRAM battery for a couple of days. Didn't work. cmd opt P R wouldn't bring up the second chime, and cmd opt O F wouldn't bring up Open Firmware. It initially chimes, but it never brings up the Apple logo. Maybe a NAND reflash would do it, but I mean I bought a whole bunch more at $20 a piece. It isn't worth the effort of finding the NAND (if there is one) and trying to reflash it. It isn't as well documented as the PS3
>>
>>56188735
No comment, good Sir.
>>
>>56188792
I know, I know, I'm retarded. I should have done it on the corroded 2.5 DP PCI-X. I didn't think I'd brick it
>>
>>56188804
Just rent a heat gun and move the NAND from the corroded one and replace it, worth a try.
>>
>>56188828
Any idea which is the NAND chip? 2005 PPCs had NANDs, right?

Also, the one problem is that the corroded one is a different generation. It definitely is worth a try, and I'm dumb for not even thinking about it

pic unrelated
>>
>>56188851
Don't really know much about G5's, but it's something to look into, even if it uses some other chip kind. Good luck anyways.
>>
>>56188568
Going off this info here, you can get 2d nouveau acceleration. Unfortunately you need to recompile the kernel if page size isn't set to 4k. You also need to add a line to yaboot.
