The name is pronounced like that, whether you like it or not. Making fun of it is rather immature when you don't even know the correct pronounciation.

I have spotted and negotiated a deal for a watch.

It's a about a decade old, mid to high grade automatic ETA movement, "mint" condition (i see no big scratches), comes with box and papers. The jeweler selling it says all watches are serviced before sale.

The price is a solid $1k cheaper than more recently produced versions of the watch.

I've asked before but I'll ask again. Should I go for it?

Opinions?
>>
>>56012704

Also I should say the more recent versions of the watch in new unworn condition are sold for about $3800.

a lot of people (in america) carry concealed at work. most people who carry every day aren't just going to take it off unless their workplace has stringent policies and actually check. It may seem foreign to you (wherever you are from, including America) to that people might carry firearms and really hope never to use them. But when that mass shooter comes into your workplace, you might want a gun after all

Swiss Quartz is a fucking meme, and everyone who buys that trash is a sucker.

You can get watches of identical quality, with sapphire windows, and Japanese-made automatic movements, for $195.

Also, that fucking kickstarter:
>Quality timepieces usually come at an extra-inflated price
No they fucking don't, the watch industry is extremely competitive, which is why these turds are aimed squarely at people who aren't watch enthusiasts.

>We want to make it easier to invest in things that last
Invest? Very few watches are investments, and what's not going to last is the battery on those non-solar movements.

Solar movements aren't known to last as well, you will eventually need to change the Lithium ion in them. In fact you might get a 2-3 years of extra use before having to change the overpriced battery on those things. Fuck even autos need maintenance. You want something that will last for centuries, something to give to your children/grandchildren that they can use during tough time to get by? Only pic related will do.

Looking for a good all-round watch to replace my Citizen. I dress pretty preppy so I was thinking either a dressy Seiko SARB065 or a cheap entry-level diver but I don't know which ones I should look at. Timex Weekender Fairfield looks good for a beater but it's quartz and I'd prefer automatic.

Thoughts?
>>
>>56015723
To be sure just hand-wind it ~30 turns before wear (if it's been sitting there overnight), or shake vigorously for 20 sec or so if no handwinding. Schedule your faps in the morning, put it on your fapping arm, and just beat the shit out of your cock/gspot. That'll do it.

Fine. Some of the designs are a little..

But otherwise they're fine. Particularly at the lower end.

And since you're new, I'll clear up a common misconception. orientwatchesusa.com is not orient, it's a retailer (and on the back end, a distributor.) Lots of people get their orient watches thru websites like creationwatches and longisland.

Not a real brand. Just a label that multiple factories from China use as a pseudo-brand. Some of them use decent Seagull movements. I wouldn't recommend buying one though. If you want to buy a Chinese watch buy a legit Seagull watch like pic related. This one uses a Seagull's movement which is an almost 1:1 copy of a 2824, so runs at 28,880 vph, etc. You can get this for $115 off ebay. The reason why it's cheap is because they just give you the watch in a bag with no packaging. If you buy it from Seagull's website you will get a box, packaging and instructions but it will cost close to $300.

Seiko rubber straps fucking suck, having to boil them every 2 weeks isn't ideal for anyone involved.

The in-house Black Bay and Pelagos will not drop below 3k they linger exactly there. The ETA 2824 version you can have 1.5k-2k but 2k is pushing it because this move from ETA to in-house have really cause a lot of people to drop theirs onto the market. Well for starters it actually have a real warranty with a bunch of authorized distributors. 2nd it uses ETA movements which is far better than Ronda. Thirdly and most importantly, you won't look like this faggot. I mean you saw all of that fedora yet you still click buy, the fuck is wrong with you?

Look man just cancel that order and go with this. It's a decent watch for $120.

Thailand

Then it most certainly is worth that amount. But the market for restored swiss watches from the 60s and 70s is a lot smaller than /wt/ would like to admit, because of the palette of styles that arent for everyones taste. I myself like the 60s swiss movements because that was when the Wehrmachtswerk/ETA reached the mass production phase and started making all these styles of watchea with more or less same swiss movements.
>>
>>56025224

Personally I would pick Hamilton over Tissot every time. As for Jomashop I've never used them myself but from what I've read things are usually fine but when something goes wrong they have absolutely horrible customer service.

No.
While it may still be a 2824-2, it's not the same grade.
The Black Bay uses a Chronometer movement, far more accurate. Much higher quality.

>-same sapphire crystal
It being sapphire does not make it the same, no two will ever be the same by shear virtue of the production process.

>-a bit shittier stainless

Tudor gets their cases right from Rolex do they not? So grade of the steel is expected to be less in a $400 watch.

-both are not COSC
Black Bay is a Chronometer.

I'm more of a fan of the (IWC-ripped) aviation style Chris Wards, rather than the diving watches.

I don't really want to get another ETA movement -- I have a Longines retrograde that is on the border of unacceptable losing of time over a month -- but I also don't know how I feel like spending min $5k for something in-house.

Pulled the trigger on the GS 5722-9990.
Apart from the stains on the dial, it looks fantastic, barring the microscratches due to use. It didn't have its original strap anymore, but the owner threw in a modern GS deployant clasp instead, which is a nice touch.
Just a little pricier than some 5722-9990s I've seen sold, but I figure the cost of the clasp covers it anyway. The seller also gave me the contacts of someone who works in Cartier's service center if I ever need anything serviced.

>>
>>56028071
You are either ignorant or being un-truthful.

The 2824 Black Bay has never been Chronometered, the Pelagos and North Bay with the in-house movement is and rightfully displayed on the dial. Yes the 2824 in the BB is modified but its NOT of higher quality, just because Tudor made some modifications it doesn't mean its automatically higher quality. You're right about sapphire crystal, however both watch does have the AR coating and made out of sapphire so basically all of the same features. To say that one sapphire is better than the other then you must know the metallurgy of both in detail which I highly doubt you do. Again not saying that Steinhart is just as good, of course not one is a $350 watch the other is a $4k watch. You can't compare the two, but for the value the Steinhart is a very good buy. What I was implying in response of the post I was replying to was both houses make Rolex homages, however Tudor just happened to be owned by Rolex. I will allow the consumer to decide on its quality since no one is the clear expert. We see many reviews comparing them to Omegas and Tudors
