>>55976332
Honestly I have owned Steinhart that had to go back twice. I own 3 Seiko's two 7S26 and one 4R36. 2/3 is over a decade old without maintenance, one j just bought all 3 is +/-6 sec a day or below. The Steinhart would just randomly stop. If SHTF happens I would probably leave the Steinhart behind.

Going to an estate auction, and rumors has it this man was a collector. Another rumor was it that he disowned both his son and daughter, so they aren't getting shit. According to people behind this auction the proceeds are all going to a church.
Anyways, his collection is pretty fucking impressive. Pic related is one of the least expensive in his collection. From what I've seen from pictures posted by his lawyer its pristine. How much should I be bidding /g/? So far I have $3k cash but I don't know if that might be enough, should I invest more cash?
>>55981963
Nope. Spring bars all the way down.
Isnt the millgauss the entry level rolex? I dont think you'll make any mad dosh flipping it if it costs 3k

>>55982107

>>55982102

>>55982157
How do estate auctions work? Is it going to be filled with people who know this guy had a nice watch collection or can you show up with 3 grand and hope that no one else there is in the market for a nice watch?
>>55982220
This is Bel Air, so everyone knows he has a nice collection. Fuck we have people fly in from NYC and Atlanta. I am there because I know a collector and he's taking me with him. I am hoping the people flying in wouldn't be interested in this lowly Rolex, they probably have eyes on Vintage Patek Philippes or Audemars. There's a few more Rolex's but I think this is his cheapest one. The collector I am going with told me that I should bid on the Presidential though because he messed it up adding a diamond bezel, and I could sell the bezel and replace it with a stock Rolex however the value already went to shit when he did that.
>>55982306
Who the hell would want to buy a diamond bezel from a Day Date? The stones aren't worth shit, and as you say, replacing parts on a Rolex tanks the value.
And even if the collectors are after the APs or Pateks, why would they leave a recent model Rolex just sitting there? Earn a quick thousand bucks flipping that and your plane ticket and hotel room are covered for the whole trip.
>mfw researching the resell value of my expensive eco drive

Like I fucking care, if I wanted it I could buy a brand new untainted one any time I want, I bet it's still in production. Unless you have something like a green Neptune it's just going to be a stinking used watch like any other.
>>55982483
My friend said I should just focus on the Presidential because no one wants it and I could get it for the value of the gold. The Milgauss is a collectors.
>>55982525
You can probably buy a brand new eco-Drive from Overstock for like $50 and it would still be shit.

do you guys have any recommendations on smartwatches? i've checked the wiki but no info about them
Found a used watch I want from a seemingly reputable German seller on Chrono24 for $1000 cheaper than new.
The watch is in mint condition according to him, and I see no major scratches.
The watch was produced in 2003, but I don't know if it's been serviced or not .
It's a midrange ETA movement. Chronograph and date.
If it's not and it needs servicing, should I still get it?
The fact that it's so much cheaper concerns me.
I've emailed him but he probably won't answer till tomorrow the earliest.

>>55990623
Discontinued since ~2003. Only the 43mm version is produced currently, which also has a busier dial (with arabic minute markers in 5 minute intervals), and goes for $1,300 on Jomashop. My version has Ref. 622.10.141. Look for "Fortis Flieger Chronograph midsize" or "35mm" on ebay/chrono24/etc
>>55990815
>>55990623

>>55990807
Yea I kinda want, probably the 42mm however I don't see why its literally twice the price of an Obris with the same exact features and a helium release valve. The only difference is the Obris is always sold out and you need to set your alarm on the day they "allow you to order" or else you will miss your chance which is BS.
>>55990842
I.e. the Obris is under-priced compared to demand while the Helson isn't. Btw, I see used skindivers for <$500 on ebay regularly.
>>55990842
>>55990860
In fact, there's a Shark Diver for sale at $649 with 1 day left right now, and the seller is willing to make the price buy it now upon request. These things don't seem to have much resell value.
>>55990842
Looks like a lot of work just for a fucking watch, also there are scalpers that are selling these on ebay so its going to be sold out right away. Either that or this is just a big marketing ploy and they made an artificially high demand so they can sell it on ebay themselves.

Boil that rubber strap and make it shaped perfectly for your wrist. Then also get a nato strap.

More of my Seiko next to a much more expensive watch.
>>55976062
Shit picture but I can't be bothered to take a good one
>>55994993
Frankly the Seiko looks better. Except I would have the red version over the orange.

Is the El Primero yours too?
>>55992952

>>55995644
Maybe. In person the finishing and build quality on the Zenith is clearly better, but for 25 times the price it should be.
>>55995735
Yes. I pick from my fairly costly collection everyday when I leave home and then just switch to the Seiko I keep in my office when I get to work.
>>55995882

Do you have a pic of your entire collection?
>>55995906
I've got 7 watches in the 2-8k range, and I'm about to sell the $2000 watch for about half what I paid for it. A dealer has another watch on the way for me which will be the most expensive yet, but it won't hold its value like my Rolex.
Might get a Grand Seiko this year too. Might take a pic of my watch box as well.

I am not a huge fan of the zenith, or zenith in general desu. My friend bought a elite captain (brand new from off. Dealer i might add) that literally had to go back to zwitserland a week later because the power reserve broke.
>>55996566
I'm not really a big Zenith fan either, except for the first el Primeros that came out in the 60s, which is what mine from 2012 is based on.
I have a Casio Rangeman for everyday use.
My nato strap adapter broke and so I need to get a new one.
Decided to get a new metal bezel as well.

I got it for ~$550 used on ebay. Original retail was like $1,200 (mine has the optional sapphire crystal & display case back so might have been more). You can get the current version (43mm) new on Jomashop for $1,300 until the sale ends.

> wear a white rodina for 2-3 years

>>56006704
>>56006726
Yes, I saw Archie's video. I eel sorry for Archie as he had a fun character going while mixing in sincere information but he lost the plot and became difficult to bear. TGV is more full of shit because he doesn't realize nobody is buying his persona and frankly he can't back any of it up even with borrowed watches to show.
Frankly I find all the videos limited in terms of real expertise.
>>56006836
Notice that one of his GMT didn't have no serial where the lugs are. Not saying anything but everyone who owns Rolex's knows there should be a 7 digit serial there.
>>56005691
Just go to France then
Come December once I get my bonus pic related is probably going to be my entry into Rolex. The Sub 114060. My question is, I don't want a frankenRolex from Ebay. Can anyone recommend me a shop that is competitive, and is trusted to give me a 100% non-fucked with Rolex? I can also do local I live in LA.
>>56007252
Archieluxury's sponsor, Jewelersontime, is in Newport Beach.
This guy comes highly recommended by WUS: http://www.lunaroyster.com/watches
Or just browse the jewelry district downtown. If you're in doubt about a piece you can always bring it to Sam's (check on yelp) or any pure watch repair place on the same block to authenticate.
>>56007377
You mean 7th and Hill? I'm pretty familiar there, they sell a lot of frakenRolex unfortunately. There are deals to be had on Speedmasters, I saw one for like $1k OTD this is 90%. Sadly Speedmasters and Chronos don't do it for me.
>>56007252

A local, smaller jeweler where you're familiar with the owner would be ideal. Failing that, you're best off getting one direct from Rolex and avoid paying the highstreet markup.

The name is pronounced like that, whether you like it or not. Making fun of it is rather immature when you don't even know the correct pronounciation.
