I never gotten why Steinhard is considered trash for ripping off Rolex design, when Seiko is doing literally the same thing. And Seiko rip-offs are even cheaper.

I can understand the hate on Invictas, because these are poor and LQ rip-offs.

Having held both Ocean One, and OVM in my hands, I can safely say that I 40% agree with you.

The vast majoirty of Steinharts range need not exist, they're good watches, but you can only pay so much Homage until you start to just outright insult the original.

The OVM is a damned nice watch for the price, you're going to have a hard time finding a better one outside of the used market. My own real peeve with the OVM is the end-centre link, it is squared off, doesn't fit too well with the endlinks and produce an aesthetic flaw, which can be quite annoying. But a strap soon fixes this.

Steinhart could do well if they get the right creative minds in to design decent dials, should they remain on ETA's good side and keep receiving 2824's that is.

I will never understand it either, the vitriol against Steinhart all over the internet amazes me. I mean lets compare >>56032522 to its closest Steinhart comparison. Notice how they look quite similar its because the Seiko is a Rolex Copy. Okay lets compare them:

Seiko Shogun:
-Seiko movement, made in Japan 23 6r15
-21500 bph
-mineral glass
-Seiko in house chinkmade Lumibrite
-200m rated ISO 6425
-shit band
-assembled in Malaysia
-$1000+
-resale $400-$500 via ebay

Steinhart OVM
-Swiss ETA 2824-2 custom
-28800 bph
-domed sapphire with AR coating
-lume provided by Super Luminova
-300m rated DIN 8310
-shit band
-assembled in Switzerland
-$320
-resale $500-$700 via ebay
>>
>>56032522
That's surprisingly tasteful.

That's not fair to either the Shogun or the Steinhart.

The clasp on the Steinhart is pretty poor by direction comparison to the exceptional bracelet (Considering the price of the watch) but by all accounts, the Shogun has a pretty solid bracelet.

Also I'd say that the Sumo is more so a direction comparison to the OVM

I thought only Omega themselves would handle servicing Co-Ax movements? Something to do with the surgical amount of lube if I recall the reasoning correctly.

But hey, if locals will take it on and are capable of it then that's awesome, especially if you're on good terms with the store owners.

The town jeweller here is a family friend, and a seiko dealer. He managed to get his hands on an SARX015 for me, very happy when it arrived.
>>
>>56033538
They're going to need to be 'certified' to get replacement components and shit from omega, but it's not fundamentally different from any other watch. They can still do basic service without that

You seem to think that someone can gather the wide spectrum of your "refined taste" from a single anonymous post on a Hungarian Traditional Wedding Planning website.
>>
>>56033538
Nope, the co-axial has been around for years now and many watchmakers will work on them. As NineBall mentioned above, Omega offers a certification program to independent watchmakers. There are several in my area who are certified.
The good news is that mine won't need servicing for several more years.

It's actually 904L and no Tudor uses regular 316L that every else uses. Also 904L is mostly just marketing bullshit. It's only advantage over 316L steel is increased corrosion resistance which is meaningless to 99% of the people who own or will ever own a Rolex.

Sure, for however long the half life of Tritium is. Left is 14 year-old tritium (paint though, not tube), vs. 1 1/2 year old super-lumina.

I'm surprised there's people who don't know about lumibrite being a Seiko product.

Also surprised to see someone who hasn't seen enough of it to try and act like it's not clearly better.

>>56035412
Tritium is less bright than lumibrite and even superluminova after a recent charge. It takes a while for normal lumed paint to lose enough energy for it to be more dim than tritium, and dives are generally not long affairs.

Also, I know I've posted a lot about lume before but:

If you're new to this discussion, as far as I know Seiko hasn't sold any Lumibrite to Citizen to use on their watches.

Afaik any claim of citizen lumibrite has been by retailers. That or possibly by regular internet people who often like to lump seiko in with citizen in a vague implication that Japanese companies are 'the same' or something while swiss companies are special. For the anon that quoted wikipedia they mention nothing for Citizen in the references, and I can't find anything from Citizen's current or past watch announcements mentioning lumibrite.

If you've followed any of the news about lume, you may have heard of the development of Tritec's Super-Luminova 'X1' which is suppose to be fantastic, particularly in how long it's suppose to maintain a bright glow and is being developed along with their 'japanese partners.'
-cough- seiko

If only it had any of the vaunted Sinn technologies, or I'd have snatched one in a heartbeat. At least it has a top grade movement.

I've just bought pic related for $470 (used with box & papers near mint condition - bought new a couple of months ago). How'd I do? Would have preferred something slightly smaller, but I think it'll serve as a good replacement to the King Seiko as an actually wearable dress watch, and a complement to my german military and tool watches.

You did pretty good. I'm not a fan of Roman numerals, or classic script, or a jewel count on the dial, or alligator leather, but it's a solid watch.

Seriously though, that watch looks like a misguided Japanese attempt to imitate English high-society, pre-war fashion.

Hey guys, I don't know much about watches and I'm sure I'm going to get ripped apart but I'm looking for some purchasing advice..

What I'm looking for:
Under $250
Minimal design
Black and gold

I don't care about how accurate it is, I want it for fashion – daily use in an office setting.

I'm debating between:
https://www.vitalydesign.ca/products/10-17-x-brushed-gold-leather?variant=20588787716

http://www.mvmtwatches.com/collections/men/products/chrono-gold-black-leather?variant=undefined

I know they aren't the quality that you guys are all about and I'll probably just get told to fuck off but any type of guidance would be helpful...

Crown being on the "wrong" side for watches that's intended to be worn on the left wrist was apparently a special forces requirement, since the crown won't interfere with tactical gear, according to a Watchbuys rep I chatted with at their roadshow. So buy it and feel all tacticool and shit.

You are mistaking "difficult task" for " pleasures of the mechanical watch". Enjoy those tasks, because they make you connected with the watch more than with any plastic quartz piece of shit.

the watch being off by days is a pleasure?

The point of a day date watch is to tell you what fucking day and date it is, if you have to tell the watch what day it is it ruins the functionality of the tool

you are literally calling more accurate and useful watches pieces of shit

And no £500 watch that is so monstrously outclassed by one £200 cheaper can be considered acceptable either.

Both Sumo and OVM are great watches, but to try and compare them is pointless, in the end it comes down to what you like to see and what you are willing to spend. To simply say "X is better than Y at this pricepoint" is purely opinionated and is no foundation for a discussion or argument.

You don't like the false patina, fine, don't buy an OVM.
I don't like the Sumo, I think it's hideous with obnoxious styling. So I won't buy it.

Any idea how to moderately weaken a mainspring? I have a vintage movement that suffers from rebanking because of a modern replacement mainspring that's too strong.

For those who don't know, rebanking:

>>
>>56047167
Heating is the first idea I get, but not really controllable as to the extent of the weakness. More so a shot in the dark.

I suppose all you can do is get a lower grade spring with less tension.
>>
>>56047216
How about straightening it a bit?

>>56047167
>Lyke, omg, people on 4chan should be willing to help me whenever i ask within the hour!

Wouldn't help much.

Either get a different spring as anon said or attempt to cut the current one.
>>
>>56047225
These really are more so questions for watchmaker anon.
>>
>>56047240
Cutting it will keep the torque the same and only decrease the running time.

As if you know a solution, dipshit!
>>
>>56047288
>The average person should know the intricacies of watchmaking.

Let's face it. If you knew shit, you wouldn't be asking for help with it.
We're trying to help by throwing out suggestions, upon which you should then research to see the results.

The only way you can guarantee a fix without going over the top for this shit, is just to get a weaker mainspring, while the run time will also be reduced, you will not suffer the effects of rebanking.

Odd.

I recall discussing it with a soviet watchmaker while he was working on one of my slav watches that they used to slightly chop some of it off, heat it for a while and slightly bend it to proper fit the barrel. Could be because they were given universally big replacement mainsprings though.

Either way, quit being a (terrible) kike and buy a new lower tension mainspring.

They're no doubt used to some people being a little giddy when buying an expensive watch like a Rolex, so don't contain yourself too much as to seem clammy.

What's the Ferrari of watches? Patek?
Who's the Lamborghini?
>>
>>56048397
Ferrari has that whole owner's club situation, where you have to already own one to even be considered as a human being by the salesman. But quality-wise, Patek seems like a good fit.

Lamborghini would be a brand for posers, watches that are expensive and look nice, but have no horological interest.
