Canadians out there?

Coming from a Nexus 5, simple android apps and Pokémon go.

What's the best phone out there, contract or no contract doesn't matter?

If by contract, <$60/mo and <$400 for phone
If off contact, <$600
All in CAD$

What I use my phone for:

Why can't I send text via NFC? I highlight some text on my screen or select a note in colornote, pick send, select Android beam and it sends; but as an NFC tag that contains the text rather than as anything I can use or select. This is completely useless to me because I can't use that for anything. I need some way to be able to then interact with the text I sent on the other device.
Do any NFC autists here know how to send stuff like that via NFC? I can get it done with bluetooth only currently

Is there an app or an Xposed module (I'm running CM13) which can spoof a address book for each app instead of the contacts which are usually system wide the same? Is the LG v10 any good? Someone is offering me one for $200 and it seems like a good phone.. it has 4gigs of ram, but only an 1800mhz processor (according to phonearena) but it's hexa core. sorry to repeat post from last thread, just looking for more opinions. Feel free to ignore.

I have a few questions.
In the market for a new phone, budget $400.

Currently using Moto X 2013, but it has tons of issues now.

Anyways:

What is the best I can get NEW for $400? I was looking at OP3, N6P, Axon 7.

What is the best option of those?

What is daydream and why is the Axon 7 the only one that is certified for it? Does that matter?

oh well, I'll just use it until it can't go any further or Googlel get's their shit together with the nexus line.

what's your opinion on the 6p vs op3?
>>

i personally like both. /g/ will shit on the op3 because of the pentile display and oxywhatever os, but i think they're fine

i like the 6p because of how open it is. it's a nexus, itll have updates forever. it does have less ram than the op3, so, something to keep in mind.

The LG V10 is a very nice phone, arguably the best phone last year.

The Snapdragon 808 hexacore uses ARM's big.LITTLE configuration, which in this case means there are two big cores and four little cores. The big cores handle the heavy lifting while the little guys run background processes. Several flagship phones last year used the SD808 because the octacore SD810 reaches hardware thermal throttling limits within several minutes of heavy usage, so the SD808 ends up producing better performance per watt over time because it had two less big cores generating heat and saturating the heatsink. Samsung's Exynos line of SoCs did not suffer from this limitation and the Galaxy S6 was a sales success.

However, the LG V10 was essentially the G4 redone. It shares the excellent camera and has a good audio DAC while losing the odd curve. For $200 in excellent shape, I would consider the V10 a very good deal.

5" and 5.5" variants, differences will be in size, screen resolution, and battery size (both will have AMOLED screens, Snapdragon 821, and 4GB RAM). Storage sizes may vary too (more base on larger device). Will both be made by HTC and both will feature "premium" metal+glass enclosures.

>>
>>55861952
I (personally) don't really recommend samsung devices for long-term usage. And if you're poor, you're gonna be using it for a while..

The hardware is really good, but the exynos CPU makes developing AOSP-based roms (read: CM) extremely hard. It's not like there is anything wrong with the recent stock firmware on Samsung devices, but you might want to update to newer android versions when it's eventually abandoned.

Still, if it's as cheap as you say...I'd buy it. It's a recent phone and it should be performing good for a while.

You can't keep it and use it with an another sim card (from a different provider)?

How are the american people tolerating this? Carrier-locked phones were a thing in my country 10 years ago, but now if you buy a phone WITH a mobile plan, you can just pop in a sim card from a different provider and use it normally.

Guys what do I do here

I have the Xperia Z5 Premium but the phone is faulty as fuck, like I've already sent it off for repair 4 times and I have had to do an insurance claim which cost me a ton as well.

I'm going to get a new phone obviously but what phone should I get?
>>
Budget € 600 max

Priorities:

Battery(user replaceable/removable) >smooth/bug free performance>screen (5-5.5inch)>micro sd (or at least 64gb rom)>camera>premium build>speakers

no SD 810 phones please.

Basically all i do is browse, play a lot of music over bluetooth or trough wired headphones and a lot of texting/calling. Some light apps here and there.

Not sure if i need the latest an greatest flagship, but i don't want a phone that doesn't get any updates a year from now. Plus i don't want it to get slow as shit after a few years like my GS3 now.

So are the new nexus devices my only option?

GS7: exynos variant in Europe, samsung is shit with updates and only cares about their latest shiny flagship.
HTC10: too expensive (€670), nothing makes it really stand out?
LG G5: bloat, Always LG Always seems to have some big issue with hardware/software, low resell value, okayish battery life
applel: too expensive for 64gb version of 6s.
OP3: big numbers on antutu but software is far from optimized + no physical stores
Axon 7: questionable software support after android N, battery life isn't great (?)

Are nexus devices more optimized to use the hardware to it's fullest potential? Kind of like apple does? Or is it just smoother because it doesn't have any bloat?
>>
>>55862873
From my experience with my old folks they just care about battery life, camera (Nexus has neither) and screen. I think something like Samsung A3 or decent chinkphones would be OK for them
>>
>>55861281

where did you read metal + glass? I hope they don't start making fingerprint magnets that break easily like GS7. Why does everyone care for design so much? If you don't have Insurance any sensible person uses a protective case, making the fancy design useless.

Since i don't care for VR i guess i'll just get the one with best battery life. Smaller screen + lower res might make up for the difference in battery size.
>>
>>55863735
why not LG G4? its not SD810 MVGame

considered it untill i read about the bootloop issues. The way LG handled it (some people had to send their device in multiple times) doesn't give me a lot of confidence in LG. Plus SD 808 gets destroyed by SD820. For the €120 price difference i'd just get the G5.
I don't mind paying a premium price if it means the device is more futureproof, wich the G4 isn't.

I just bought an Oneplus 3 and I'm regretting it so much, and the reason is disgusting piece of shit stock Android. It's so full of little retarded things that are just moronic and trigger me like crazy. the more I use it the more I notice them. Coming from Sony which was heavily customized and for the most part GOD FUCKING TIER compared to this garbage that is stock android, it's starting to get on my nerves. Right now I'm having major issues with the contacts & dialer.

>Dialer always starts on the star pane with no way to change
>for some fucking reason the third pane in dialer shows all contacts from all accounts and there is no way to customize it, even contacts with no phone number are shown!
>android automagically decides which color to assign to a contact, and now I have a bunch of male contacts with pink or purple colors with no way to change, and this annoys the fuck out of me
>for some reason, if you go to the contacts stock app you can change which contacts to show, but the setting doesn't carry over to the dialer
>for some reason, you can change the colors in the messenger app but it doesn't carry over to the contacts app

Man this is so annoying. I know there are third party apps for the dialer and messaging but god damn these are the basic apps for a phone, and they're completely fucked up. Even my ancient Samsung Dumbphone had better messaging and dialer apps than this. And it seems none of these issues are fixed on the N preview so far.

I'm seriously tempted to send it back and get another customized Android that doesn't run stock apps, stock android is just pure garbage.

I just subscribed to Netflix (i was on the fence but it's only € 10/month so fuck it) and i just upgraded to a Nexus 6P, and i would like to watch movies and series on it while i'm in bed before going to sleep.
Any of you found out a comfortable way to do this? Like some kind of stand or tray that doesn't need a flat and hard surface? Anyone want to share his experience?

>if this doesn't make people rethink using android in the first place, i don't know what else would

What else are you going to use though, disgusting Windows Phones which are about as retarded as Google when it comes to stock apps, if not even more? Or spending 2x the price of a comparable android phone and get iOS?

The answer is not getting stock android phone.

So I ask you /g/entlemen, what's the best flagship android with a sensible manufacturer customization that is comparable to the OP3 hardware wise and price wise? Budget is 400€ up to 450€, as I'm most likely returning the OP3.

Like I said above, stock-ish android annoys me to no end with its moronic quirks. I want a good custom software like I had on my previous Sony.

Also, I'm not a fan of having to rely on shady bored indians on XDA for my roms. I want something with a good customized stock firmware and support. Unfortunately I cannot buy Sony anymore because they went full retard with the X series.

I've been using my Galaxy Nexus for 4 years now and now it's broken. Looking for a new phone but there are a metric shitton of different phones to choose from. When I got my nexus I really didn't give a fuck and just bought one of the latest ones.

Country: Canada
Budget: $500 USD
Provider: doesn't matter
Features: SD card slot is a must, decent battery life, durable, anything that can fit into my pocket.

I don't like touchwiz, but I could probably just install nova. I really just use my phone to listen to music, browse, 4chan, maybe some shitty mobage to kill time. I plan to be using it for a while so it needs to have decent performance over the years.

Buy a used galaxy s7 exynos (3 months old) or new oneplus 3? Both are about the same price.

Advantages/disadvantages of both?

as far as im aware:

GS7 compared to OP3:
+Better screen
+Better battery life (?)
+better camera
+better resale value
-Less durable (glass)
-Just a tad slower in review videos
-less ram (doubt i'll be needing more than 4gb)
-no custom roms so no will probably stop being supported in a year or so
-GPU is way worse, but i don't game frequently
+- touchjizz (not sure if this is a con since OP isn't exactly stellar when it comes to updates/bug fixes)

so wich one do i pick and why? Did i miss any pro's and cons?

It's good hardware for the price sure. But to hit that price they always skimp out on something really small that alienates a big potential big market for them. How hard would it have been to include a micro SD slot and dual sim support for 25-50 extra dollars? My moto x pure from 2015 did it a year ago. It even has a bigger and higher res screen. Sure the op3 has 6gb of ram no one will use and a snapdragon 820, but my msrp 400 dollar phone can out maneuver the op3 because of its compromises. It's some dumb shit.

Opinions on Moto X Pure/Style? Seems like a better buy than a 5x since it's so similar but has microSD and another gig of ram (with good developer support)

>>55869509
Kinda looks like an updated OnePlus one. I kinda like it aside from the proprietary capacitive buttons layout. Specs?

So if I want the ultimate performance, the Exynos S7 is my only decent choice right?
>>
>>55869477
uh, OP3 has dual sim.

it just doesn't have a micro sd slot

I wouldn't buy op3 if it had a screen bigger than what it is now
there's this ridiculous trend of manufacturers making the phones bigger for no real good reason

res isn't everything.
I don't see a single pixel on my op3, I enjoyed the 720p screen on the lumia 735 I had, it's been nice. I don't see why you'd need 1440p/2160p on a screen that fits in your fucking hand
there's quite literally no reason for it, all it does is drain your battery like a motherfucker

>can out maneuver the op3
not in specs/speed

and while at the topic of battery life
op3's charging is awesome
I don't think there's a single other flagship that can charge from ~10% to 100% in under an hour.

I just got an X Pure. It's perfect for me--but I'm not a gamer. Dual SIM and MicroSD were imperative. The build and feel are good. Cyanogen on it has been stable (no gapps). The extra battery is nice--goes all day comfortably.
>>
>>55869518
Bought the 32gb one last week on sale at b&h. Got off of the stock rom and put TruPure on it. Them moto actions are fucking awesome.

Upsides:
>Nice screen
>Sexy design naked
>Microsd
>Only been out a year and will get nougat
>Moto actions and notification peeking and all that fun moto stuff

Cons
>Battery is not too great
>"Turbo charging" claims 50% battery in like 15 minutes or some shit, and I've never even gotten close to that fast in any way
>Phone gets a little too fucking warm when you're installing a lot of shit, was only really an issue when I was installing roms and fucking my phone up trying to figure out how it worked in fastboot and all that

For 250-300, there's not really much better.

Axon 7 is shit, because of the company.

ZTE is not known for customer care and software support.

Nobody in Europe will get this phone, it's more expensive than the OP3, also it is different to the US version, as in inferior.

The Axon 7 here will be barely less expensive than the S7.
>>
>>55870113

The only reason to get the Axon7 is the superior sound quality and stereo speakers.

Better screen?

Sure, if you inspect it at an unrealistic close distance not comparable to real life usage.

htc 10 or wait for nexus? don't have a fucking clue

no microsd card slot and bottom speakers on the nexus would rip my arms off since i've been using an htc one m8 for the last 2 years, but the htc 10 price tag is also just absurd. it's $600 right now unlocked and that's with $100 off which only lasts till august 7. i need to grab this thing now or i need a really quick price drop right after this $100 discount ends

waiting for the nexus would normally be okay but my m8 is cdma shit and i can't move to some other carrier even after unlocking without losing my 3g and i need that. if the nexus is clearly worth it for whatever reason.

my understanding is that timely updates is what sells people on nexus phones but what's stopping me from flashing a rom on my phone manually? is there a significant difference if i do it this way with the htc 10?

i dont get it
>>
>>55870950
holy fuck im low on sleep

if the nexus is clearly worth it for whatever reason, let me know cause otherwise i'll be in indecision limbo for the next few days and i'll probably just bite the bullet and grab an htc 10*
>>
Should I get an iPhone 6S? My 5 is broken and I have enough cash to just get a new phone
>>
>>55870807
I'd go with he note if moneys no concern tbqhwyfamily. Why even settle on some chink shit phone with no track record?
>>
>>55870972
>>55870950

You'll be quite happy with the 10. SD card, easy bootloader unlock for custom Roms and shit whenever they're available, smaller form factor than every other 5.5+ inch display flagships out, and I think an be had for like 600 new. Do it.
>>
>>55870807
If you don't care about rooting, go for the Note or S7 Edge Exynos, it's the flagship among flagships.
>>
Is there any root for LG G5 out yet?
>>
>>55870998

If you're that used to iOS do whatever, it's iPhone so you get mostly the same thing from model to model.

That being said the 64GB ver of the 6S is $750 unlocked, which is ridiculous
>>
>>55863200
G5
>>
>>55863965
G5 then
>>
>>55871040
so there's not really any functional difference between just flashing roms myself and getting stuff through the nexus?

and any opinions on how to effectively change the battery on the htc 10? i've seen teardowns and it looks like hell. i figure i'll have to do this at some point since i'd be keeping this for more than 2 years
>>

>>
>>55871268
There's no real way to change the battery. Honestly though, this issue has become a lot less of a problem in recent years. Quality of batteries is way higher than they used to be and you definitely won't see any issues with that battery even after two years.

I'm in the same boat; I want to make sure this thing lasts at least 3-4 years.

Why, because I can't or because I won't need to?

>>55871461
I hope you're right. My S3's battery shit itself after < 2 years and the only reason I managed was by getting a 7000mah replacement, which doesn't even last a day now when it used to last 4.
