What's the best thread around here to ask about an old iOS device? Or would that be here? I was looking for a homescreen general and couldn't find one.

I dropped my OnePlus One in the toilet and broke it. Didn't have a backup phone, as I gave my S3 to my brother. What I did have was an old iPod Touch 4 that I hadn't really touched since it lost support. It's jailbroken on iOS 6.1. I noticed I can still get stuff from cydia, but that it's realllly shitty. Ads everywhere and it occasionally tries to redirect the page I'm on without me tapping anything. I setup openssh but after being used to juicessh on Android, mobileterminal+bash+openssh was unusable. Not arrows or ctrl keys or anything. Couldn't even control tmux properly.

>can I put a better/newer OS on this?
>are there alternatives to cydia now?
>is there a way to manage this thing if needed on GNU/Linux? (I had still used Windows and iTunes when I last messed with this)

Also, while I'm at it. If I turned on my water-damaged phone and it's getting bootloops, is it for sure fucked forever? I keep having people telling me to put it in rice or try again in a week, but I already gave it time with some rice as well as dessicant, looked up and found out both don't work that well, and I'm thinking either way I'm fucked since it could've shorted stuff being on while wet already. I grabbed it out of the toilet quickly and powered it off and let it dry, but I didn't have a way to get the back off right away, and I still can't get the battery out, so I don't really know how far the water got.

Currently rocking a raspi 2 for a mpd server but it's already having problems running large flac songs, and I feel like I can't run another service on it without it shitting itself. I want to properly upgrade it to something decent that can handle more than it needs to handle.

odroid c2 and pine a64 are pretty beefy; their biggest flaw is no support for gpu hardware acceleration on GNU/Linux, only on Android, but if it's just a headless server these should be good

Pi 3 is also probably fine, but the older Pis are pretty weak
>>
I fucked up alsa or pulse or something on Arch ages ago and broke audio somehow. Now I'm trying to fix it.

pavucontrol says 'No cards available for configuration' on the Configuration tab. Output Devices just has Dummy Output.

alsamixer's default card is PulseAudio. Also available is UM-ONE. This is a MIDI interface, not what I want. I need HDMI audio via nvidia GF114. PulseAudio has one volume channel in alsamixer. The volume is up and is not muted.

aplay -l says:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

The list is empty.

speaker-test makes pulse's Dummy Output play audio as visible in pavucontrol, but I can't hear anything.

lspci finds my card:

01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF114 HDMI Audio Controller (rev a1)
Subsystem: eVga.com. Corp. Device 1460
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 5
Memory at fea7c000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: <access denied>

01:00.1 is the one I want.

aplay fails:
$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front Center.wav
ALSA lib pcm dmix.c:1029:(snd pcm dmix open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:786: audio open error: No such file or directory

I finally experienced it when I got my X220T. Unless you want your windows all fullscreened, it is basically unusable. Had to zoom out on pages just to fit some terminal stacked vertically next to my firefox window. Even maximized the lack of height is pretty claustrophobic. When you get to resolutions that low, it really shows how shit 16:9 is. My T60p at 1400x1050 is pretty damn usable.

I've got 8 gigs of ram in my laptop and three open slots. I can pilfer three more four gig sticks, but they're slightly slower and slightly higher voltage. Even if this were to work, would I probably see a net gain or loss in performance?

>>
Any way of making the host file route some IP's to a local HTML?
>>
>>55717797
More RAM doesn't exactly equal more performance, unless it is all faster RAM than what you previously had. What it does allow is more multitasking. Everything kind of eats from your RAM, so if you want to leave your browser open while you're watching anime or playing a game, more RAM definitely helps. If your RAM all gets used, it has to switch over to using SWAP, which is much slower since it's hard drive space. This results in very laggy performance until you free up some RAM again. If you have SWAP disabled, the whole OS can hang until it decides what it should kill.
>>
>>55717808
Thanks for the tip.

>but I don't know that much about alsa and pulse
I don't think anyone does. Especially not Poettering or the Arch developers.
>>
>>55717817
Not an expert, but I think you'd want to have them redirect to 127.0.0.1:blahport or your local IP and then have a web server of some sort hosting your desired HTML page on that port

Ok /g/ here's my question
I want to purchase a device that can send an input signal from my XLR microphone to my computer(s) (via line-in) and at the same time, control the output (music etc) that comes from my computer(s) and channel it to one headphone port. What device do I need for that? Just a regular mixer? What do I need to look out for when purchasing?

>>
>>55718049
That question was poorly worded. Here, one more attempt:
>Sends mic to one or multiple 3,5mm cables (each with their individual volume etc)
>Sends pc audio (perhaps multiple lines, not mic monitoring!) to my headphones.

I need an alternative to Roxio. Burning/ripping from disk, while being able to convert the files on them into some reasonable formats and ideally also being able to print things onto disk via special printers.

I don't particularly care if this takes multiple programs or not.

assuming it works like on amazon, you'd get an invoice from the 3rd party if they sold it to you and not newegg themselves.

A bottleneck means the weakest link. It's the part of any system that slows everything else down because it can't pull its own weight. You know how people tell you not to randomly click on things online, especially when it says that something is out of date and you should click here to update it? Yeah, that's what you shouldn't do. You got yourself some malware there.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ap.lijit.com .exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\ap.lijit.com\
C:\ProgramData\TEMP\ap.lijit.com
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Temp\ap.lijit.com.exe
C:\Users\<YOURUSERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\ap.lijit.com
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ap.lijit.com.sys

Welp, have fun with that. There's your starting point. Task Manager -> End Processes -> Web Browser -> Clear out plug-ins, extensions, etc. -> so on and so forth.

I'd suggest just re-installing Windows and being more careful next time. While it is possible to remove it, the fact that it already GOT IN is just not good for "morale", you know? I would never keep using an operating system after this happened, even if I knew I cleaned it. Just better to fresh install.

So, recently moved across the country, and after my PC was shipped here and I started it up and tried to play some games, its only using the shitty intel gpu and not my 390.

I've tried reseating it, updated all the drivers, but if I try to launch the amd settings it gives me an error saying it's unavailable and to connect an amd. But the card is clearly connected, it's running, everything still detects it - device manager, speccy, etc. And yet I can't play any games using the 390

Anyone have an idea what the issue might be?
>>
>>55721615
It's a little broader than that. A top of the line graphics card could easily be bottlenecked buy a dual core cpu from the same year, depending on the application. You could say that having a hard drive instead of an ssd bottlenecks certain elements of your system because you can notice a difference in performance by if you change out that single part. And there's little things to keep in mind, like how an amd graphics card requires more help from the processor, so it is more hindered by a weak one than an nvidia card would be.
>>
>>55721684
Boot in safe mode & remove all AMD drivers -> reboot -> install graphics drivers again, failing that try reseating it.
>>
>>55719921
Check your temperatures with Speccy or something like that. Something is overheating and the computer is shutting down. Probably your video card.

However, it could also be your motherboard going/gone bad.

COULD be a virus, but I doubt it. Boot into safe mode to make sure it's not.

Check inside your computer while it's running to see if any fans aren't working or if the computer is dirty. If it is, clean it, and you're good to go.

There's some starting points for you.

Is there a way to use both the Intel embedded graphics and the Geforce GT 610, preferably to support two monitors?
If it matters I use Debian 8 and Windows 10.

My computer has Intel embedded graphic which has worked well enough. So today I saw a great deal on a Geforce GT 610 and got it on impulse. Plug it in and it works great, but all of my old outputs stopped working, graphic only come from the graphic card. Take it out and old outputs work like they use to. Plug it back in and they stop.

That's actually the biggest reason I'm thinking about using both cards. I have two free displayport outs on my 960 but don't have money to buy a new monitor that supports displayport.

Asking my far more computer-inclined friend, he says if I try to do any higher-end gaming, the two cards won;t know how to properly interact with each other, but I don't plan on running my games across multiple screens or anything like that.

It all comes down to the parts which were used in the PC. Could be better, could be just as shit. If you care about displays, it might be more elegant to hook your laptop up to an external display rather than doing the same with the PC and then leaving its native monitor off all the time.

One is to figure out why this is fucked up. Test different USB ports (or different computers entirely), use adb, etc.

Given the jump from 700 gb to 2200, I would certainly say you have a leech on your network

What is your setup? Model? Is your password WPA2? I hope you aren't using WEP.
For starters, log onto your router control panel and check what devices are connected, then view the MAC addresses. If you find something that doesn't match your own hardware, that is your culprit. Then I would turn everything off, change your password. After that? Either go totally wired, or continue to use WIFI and don't broadcast SSID.

Lastly, buy a baseball bat and visit your new friend to share a nice game of baseball with.

So this is my current build, im looking to upgrade on the motherboard. Could anyone recommend me a motherboard that supports an AM3 socket and has PCIe 3.0? Iv only been able to find one in existence and there no seller.
Do they even exist?
If not, Any good motherboard that supports AM3 and has PCIe 2.0 express w/ DDR3 support would be greatly appreciated

I've tried all of this again, but to no avail.

At this point I'm not really sure what else to do, initially I just assumed it was some driver issue but now I'm wondering if it might be something wrong with the gpu itself

Is Crystaldisk accurate to check hard drives health?
I not, any alternative?
>>
>>55727600
Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the most popular program for that
I used it a couple times and It was alright
>>
>>55727600
Yes, it generally is. Go by the "health" indicator at the top, but also check the details. If the RAW reallocated sectors or pending sectors are anything other than 0, it's circling the drain. The only possible exception is if you have a pending sector resulting from some event like a power failure during a write, and know that's what it is.

However, it is often possible to go on using a disk that has a couple of bad sectors for an amazingly long time. Just keep backups of anything you actually care about, and remember that it could go tits up unexpectedly.

Ok, this qualifies as an extremely stupid question, but say (in Java) you have a String like so - "14 32", how would you extract those integer values out of the string?

What's the best way to manage updates halfway sanely in Windows 10 Home? Is there some way to make it notify me that there are updates waiting, let me vet them with the wushowhide tool, and then tell Windows Update to go ahead and install the ones that are still unhidden?

I'm pretty much stuck with Home, and apart from slightly better update settings, there's nothing in Pro that I really miss.

>>
Is there a Linux music player that can sort on folders while still showing the picture of each album, like Winyl on Windows?
>>
>>55727825
Yes. You can have absolute or relative path names in it. For instance I created an m3u that's on the root of the SD card my music is on. I used all relative paths to the songs on it. That way it works if Windows decides to call it a different drive letter.

You can't make a m3u that works in both Linux and Windows it seems. But if it uses relative paths, all you need to do to convert between them is change all / to \ or vise versa.

Ultra stupid question : say I already have my web browser opened and my VPN off. Then I activate my VPN. Will it do the job correctly or do I need to relaunch the web browser for the VPN to be effective?

It'll start routing all your traffic through your VPN. However, if there's been any session cookies stored in your browser before turning the VPN on, it may cause problems if you're logged into accounts.

They're not banned out of principle, they're banned because people always use them to break the rules, and so they get the IPs banned.

I fell for the AMD APU meme, I can't afford a full rebuild at the moment but if I wanted to put a better GPU in it would be as simple as seating the new GPU, installing drivers & setting applications to use only the new GPU? Then I would get a new mobo + CPU bundle later down the line.

I've got this chinky dvb-t stick from China.

On my arch Linux PC when connected to my aerial w_scan finds no frequencies (using default driver)

When on a windows PC with RTL-SDR driver on it can get FM radio signals (so I know it can receive signals and isn't totally broken)

I'd like to get the DVB-T working, what does /g/ think the problem is?
>>
>>55728815
Linux is the problem.

Lack of a real driver.
>>
>>55728824
According to dmesg Linshit finds uses the rtl(something)_sdr drivers that are built into the Kernel.

Before installing the RTL-SDR driver in Winblows I did try using a frequency checker in the MSI website but it found nothing either...

Maybe the stick just can't do DVB stuff?

So my computer died a few days ago, i was measuring ram clearance with digital calipers to see if i could fit new ram in my old as fuck computer to wait out until kaby lake-e/skylake-e next year

I go to turn it on after that and it turns on but doesn't post or boot

I tried taking out the ram, switching the location of the sticks, taking out the video card and using the integrated gpu

I know there is no point in trying to troubleshooting the problem since it's a 6 year old build, it'll be cheaper to just replace the motherboard/cpu/ram than buying a new motherboard to test components and finding out it want just the ram or the motherboard of the cpu

My question is how worried should i be about my 6 year old psu, it a 500 watt oem seasonic psu, i don't mind replacing it if i have to, but I'm wondering if i should just chuck it to be safe if it's the reason my computer won't post as in it took the motherboard with it
