I went out to see if i could find a htc 10 in a brick & mortar store to hold it / see how the screen viability holds up under sunlight.

Turns out basically every store just expects you to buy a iphone or s7. The only store that even had a htc 10 had to unbox it "we're supposed to set it up but we dont" and I couldnt actually turn it on or anything. Its actually a pretty small phone too but it feels great in the hand.

At least they asked me why i was interested but when i said I dont want to deal with touchwiz they asked "whats touchwiz?"

No I'm referring to the intended use. Your microsd card is not supposed to be used for running apps or storing private videos/photos as it has slower write speeds than your internal NAND and can easily be removed from the phone and your private info especially from the apps can be extracted.

Actually almost all Android phones will treat the microsd card like internal storage and some will even let you run apps off them (highly unadvised). You should still not store private information on it for reasons I stated. Nobody will get much info from your copy of some dumb rock band nobody gives a shit about and some yify rips.

Moto X isn't a terrible device, but it's pretty huge and hasn't even received Marshmallow ver 6.01 iirc. Still, largely stock android with SD support.

OP3 is good, just not as good as advertised. You don't get the full 6GB of RAM (though they might have updated it so you do, not sure), and people have already gotten Cyanogenmod going for it. For $400 you can do a whole lot worse.

HTC 10 is awesome. Always feel bad for HTC, because the 10 might be the best phone they've ever made. However they messed up by making it $700 so people just went with the Galaxy S7 instead. It's on sale for $600 on HTC's website until the end of the month, which isn't too bad seeing as that puts it in league with the iPhone's pricing.

I have found no use for the gimmick screen aside from its function when the main screen is off. You can toggle silence, camera, flashlight, and Wifi without turning it on. The second screen has TERRIBLE light bleed. It functions as a night light, essentially. And, like I said, when I hold the phone landscape, my finger grazes the second screen all the time. Depending on the function, it will most likely turn on music, open another app, etc.

And from what I understand, the two metal rails on the sides of the phone, in addition to looking nice and providing structure, as used as grounds or whatever for the function of the fingerprint scanner. If you try to hold the phone without touching the metal and rest on the finger scanner, it will just fail over and over. So you can't use a case that covers those rails. You need a firm grip on both sides, pointer finger on the scanner.

Two minor things that I have found annoying. And the huge size was obvious from a spec sheet, but I wasn't prepared for a phone that doesn't fit in my Toyota cupholders.

Got my first smartphone a few days ago and have been enjoying it. Was able to score the display model of a blu studio energy for $70 at micro center, not a scratch on it and the 5000ma battery seemed nice. With a 64 gig sd card and a nice charge cable I was still under a hundred bucks. It's a shit phone I know, but I'm an old and poor fag so I've been pretty impressed with it so far.

Replaced a lot of default apps thanks to /g/ and /b/ and it's so much better now. I was still thinking about rooting it but am unsure what advantages root permissions will give me besides a custom UI. Would be a fun project for a weekend and it's been a while since I used the gimp but I feel like I'm missing a big reason to root androids. My phone is unlocked, so it doesn't have all the carrier bloatware, what else will root permissions grant me?

I know my N5 is outdated, I've had it for over 2 years now, so that's a decent lifespan considering how much use it got as a personal and work phone.

The first problem I had was the software.
My OP3 came with OxygenOS 3.1.0
I wanted to update it and root it, so I decided to just let it update via OTA
OTA installation failed 3 times.
So I gave up and had to install adb, unlock oem via fastboot, flash recovery and then reflash the stock rom on the newest patch (3.2.1)

It doesn't really bother me that much as I know my way around android (rooted, unbricked and flashed tons of times on prev. devices) so it was a matter of 3-4 minutes.

After I set it up it worked nicely.

Another small issue that I had that after flashing the rom, the Android Pay app simply vanished.

Don't know why, but it doesn't bother me that much, as I can't even use it (not available in my country yet)

A different thing gave me a small heart attack - the ambient light sensor.
I thought it was outright broken.
But it turned out it works fine, just needed an hour or two to get used to the environment (still doesn't update the brightness slider, but I think that's how it is in Android [I came from iOS where it does update])

I've never seen Android Pay in my country either, but I live in the middle of nowhere where people are literally terrified of change, so there's that (seriously, we got a Staples... it lasted like a year, and the shitty local places persist). I'm a little confused on the OS it runs though, is it the straight up Google OS like Nexus, just with a different launcher preinstalled? I like Action Launcher 3, anyway, so I'll likely use that again.

I actually got mine with some extras (not directly from their website) so I had a spare cable that'd only charge (no file transfer) and also a microusb to usb3c converter, but I haven't checked if it works.

Though generally a MicroUSB -> USB3C converter exists, as I have one.
So as long as you'd have a MicroUSB charger, and that, you could charge your device most likely.
Though you want to use the included charger and cable to get dash charging (1h from ~5% to 100%)

I'm thinking the $700 initial price tag was both a branding issue and a funding issue, where HTC needs to be seen as a manufacturer of premium flagships that compete with Apple and Samsung. Undercutting those companies at a cheaper price point might work from a short term financial perspective, but in the long run would damage the brand. I say it's a funding issue because with proper marketing, if HTC could afford it, they'd be able to push the 10 harder, drop the price a bit, make more sales. I dont know a big deal about smartphones desu but the iphone SE and the sony Z3C-Z5C I think are around the best size for one handed phones.

Okay. The iPhone SE is 4.9", but if you can take 5.2" screen size the HTC 10 checks all your boxes, with better audio than any other phone at that screen size. I'd consider it overpriced, but since you don't care about budget, it should be good for you, assuming 5.2" isn't too big for you.

well first thanks for the answer but the galaxy S6 I have right now is 5.1 inches and I cant do everything with one hand, and the HTC 10 is 5.2 and looks bulkier and heavier...looks like I have to get used to the trend..
