I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Windows, is in fact, NSA/Windows, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, NSA plus Windows. Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning NSA system made useful by the NSA agents.

I've had a problem for a while now on Windows 7. After a while, programs will just stop working. Icon will become generic, and opening it will result in "blank has stopped working". This happens on new installations, old installations, etc.

The problem is, Friendly Wincucks Thread doesn't offer anything to attract people who start speccy/video card/gayming laptop/PC parts/which updates to disable threads.

If someone can't be bothered to ask their stupid questions post in /sqt/, they won't do it here either.

And "Windows>Linux" troll threads and "le best version of Windows" threads are obviously started by shills, and their goal is to spread the cancer all across the board, not contain it in a single thread, so they will pretty much ignore it.

I don't see how this thread could be effective. I like it as a parody thread, though.

Eh, ever since MS put licensing behind the curtain it makes me nervous.

For Windows 7, when I changed motherboards I had to call an 800 number. You type in some obscenely long code and they return another code that you type into Windows.

How can Windows 10 do it automatically? For all they know, when I swap motherboards I could be any other person.

>calling MS when you upgrade motherboards
lol, what?
>>
>>55394140

Windows 7 does online license authentication. If you change your motherboard, authentication fails and you have to call MS. It used to be a live person from India, but they made it an automated system where you type in a code and they spit back another code which you type into Windows.

And there's absolutely no way the gnu contribution amounts to a single steamy shit without the vastly more importent Linux kernel.

The GNU/Linux thing is just a sad attempt by Stallman and the rest to ride the coat tails of Torvalds...the wish they could make their own kernel but they could not and cannot. They are nothing and trying to shoehorn GNU into the common naming is pathetic as all hell.

It is and will forever be known as Linux. And if the GNU wants to be known tell them to create a fucking kernel...oh wait they can't. GNU will never be widely known nor cared about.

The world will be better when Stallman's fat greasy Hobo ass dies from heart disease.

Acutally Linus took 10 years of GNU's work and added a kernel. A monolithic kernel which was already deprecated back in the 90s when he started developing it.
>The GNU/Linux thing is just a sad attempt by Stallman and the rest to ride the coat tails of Torvalds
Actually, it's not about credit, it's about reminding people that it's historical the GNU system wich was developed while Linus was still shitting in his pants, developed so people can have a free operating system and use their computer in freedom.

>the wish they could make their own kernel but they could not and cannot
Actually the GNU project is developing a microkernel called Hurd, which is better than a monolithic kernels such as Linux, but since it's a whole set of servers, it's much harder to develop, therefore it's not completly finished yet, but already usable >> Debian GNU/Hurd.

Windows is worse than linux, but the fact is that with linux you might want to modify it, try a new distribution, if there is a problem you can always fix it... While with windows you can't do anything, so there is no need to have a thread like this.

Turn off fast-boot and see if it gets better then.

Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > click on Change settings that are currently unavailable (if Turn on fast startup is disabled) > Uncheck turn on fast startup
>>
>>55405852
There isn't if you're on an SSD, fast boot is only good for HDDs.

Why does Microsoft say they want new users, yet not allow you to just download the iso straight? I've heard of digitalriver or whatever, but why do they give you an exe? That's literally preaching to the choir. They have the activation shit built in, so why do they need to do a Windows check before getting the ISO? Makes reinstalling a clean copy for a customer more difficult if you aren't part of the botnet yourself.

You can download the iso right from the website idiot. http://letmebingthatforyou.com/?q=download%20windows%2010%20iso

>If you need to install or reinstall Windows 10 using a USB or DVD, you can use the media creation tool below to create your own installation media with either a USB flash drive or a DVD.

And your point was?

How do you dd a fucking .EXE onto a flash drive?
>>
>>55407181
You don't. You dd the iso.
>>
>>55407181
dd if=setup.exe of=/dev/sdz

Every now and then my disk usage in Windows 8.1 skyrockets, apparently the process called system is doing something. How do I stop it, I want my CPU back
>>
>>55407209
Which you won't have access to unless you run the .EXE. Which you won't be able to do on a system that can't run .EXEs. It's also completely pointless and a waste of resources, because it has to "build" the ISO live instead of simply downloading it.
>>
>>55407217
Disable Windows Update, Windows Defender, Superfetch, the built-in disk defragmenter, and some other shit.
>>
>>55407266
Done as much disabling as about five deferent articles online suggested. No change

What's the actual process that uses the CPU? Try looking at it with Process Explorer or something, maybe it'll give you more info than just "system".

Or open the resource monitor and see what files on your disk get accessed when it happens.

I think I have a MBR infection.

Will deleting all partitions to make one "unallocated space" during the Windows 10 reinstallation process using a bootable USB drive wipe MBR too?

Ty, it's nap time now, will try this tomorrow

9/10 you don't have one. What makes you think that?

why can't I log onto my device remotely?
this is the error I get
The credentials are correct, but the host cannot log you on for another reason. Please check if your password has expired or contact your system administrator for assistance.

MBR exists on your disk space, using something like DBAN to zero out everything would get rid of it. I wouldn't trust the Windows installer's built in thing to format everything correctly, though. Also, it's extremely unlikely that you even have one. It's even less likely that the drive itself or the BIOS got infected. A reinstall should fix whatever you have.

Hacker has remote control of my PC
Reinstalled Windows. He still has it.
So I am guessing I have MBR or BIOS infection.
Trying to rule out one by one.

I deleted all partitions when asked "which partition you would like to install windows 10", making one whole "unallocated space" then installed Windows 10

I would like to know if I wiped MBR too in this process, because then I only have to suspect BIOS infection.
