How the fuck do I figure out how to fix my PC?

Yesterday it randomly started BSODing with "system service exception" roughly ~30-60sec after logging in (would be fine for indeterminate amount of time if I sat on the login screen). I googled that, fucked around with some settings in safe mode, and now it's gone.

Except now I can't load any games. When I try to start up any game it either won't start up at all, instantly crashes, or freezes on a black screen. I have no idea what's causing this, and therefore no idea how to fix it? How do I narrow in on the cause of this problem so that I may try and fix it myself?

I'm thinking of getting a new mobo
Im between a Gigabyte Ga-h97 Gaming 3 and a Gigabyte Ga-z97-hd3.

They're both pretty similar except Z97 can hold ram up to 2400Mhz (the H97 only up to 1866Mhz)
and the H97 has a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot + PCIe 2.0 x16 (Z97 only has 2 2.0 x16 slots)

Im planning on use this build for gaymen, and i can get both mobos for the same price range, what would give me the best performance?

Hey guys. I have a question here in regards to my rooted Android. Specifically, how do I make my OneDrive (or Google Drive) user writeable? I have documents stored there that I need to be able to edit and save on the go, and I can't seem to make the drive writeable. I've tried changing my entire / folder writeable using FX file explorer, but that doesn't seem to work. Should I just run 'chmod -R 777 /'? Would that work? Is there a better way to do it? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm running Android 5.1.1 on a Sony Xperia Z1 (rooted of course).

Good outlines for gaming hardware of laptops:
1. User replaceable/upgrade-able CPU
2. User replaceable/upgrade-able GPU (Some brands make the gpu & vram on a separate chip that attaches to the motherboard. Those models are your best choice here.)
3.Avoid Dell (Alien Ware + Razor included), Lenovo, and some other brand I can't think of right now.
4. User replaceable RAM, HDD.
5. Avoid laptops that have BIOS whitelists on hardware.

Spend 500 on a good laptop.
Spend the rest on a $800-1000 gaming rig with room to buy 2 monitors.
>>
>>52621926
Nothing specific, but just follow those guidelines in general. If you want a place to **start** look at MSI and ASUS.
Also Dell owns both Alien Ware and Razor (Dell makes shit quality computers, and are often over priced.) Lenovo has a bad track record for inserting back doors into windows. Asus has a bad track record with patching their in house software (ex: wifi routers), but I haven't heard much else bad about them.

I guess this means you use the app. Then you are probably not able to do that. If a simple solution is ok then use ES File Explorer and add it as a cloud drive. It downloads the file temporaily and watches for changes then reupload. If you need a more robust solution you might try to set this up: https://github.com/astrada/google-drive-ocamlfuse

When I turn on my pc nothing shows any sign of life. The pc is on, the fan is on, the case is displaying lights as if it was on, but nothing on the monitor, nothing on the mouse, nothing on the keyboard or any other peripheral.

I just let it rest there for up to 30 min sometimes and then it decides to actually turn on. The monitor shows up and it goes from the start, as if I just pushed the button and not 30 minutes ago.

Is my CPU dying? I'm thinking about buying a new CPU and a new mobo.

I'm watching Stargate, and since it's a fuckload of episodes I'm speeding up the framerate to 1.5x (by pressing +) whenever it's a long atmospheric section and slowing it down back to 1x for dialogue and important ones.

However, the audio and video skip just enough every time I switch it for it to be annoying. Is there any settings or programs I should be using for this not to happen? I'm using VLC at the moment just because it has accessible framerate options, but I can switch to mpc if necessary.

It's REALLY annoying.

It depends on the language anon. But what you are looking at is string organisation.

It can be as simple as strtok in C or you can write a REGEX s.t. you can expand a little easier down the track.
>>
>>52622383
I am guessing you mean visual basic. Use ".IndexOf()" on the string. Then use .replace() to replace the spaces with "\n". Put this in a loop and tell it to loop till .indexof() retruns -1 or false.

It's been a while, Bing is blocked on my Windows 10 computer. I get ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED from any browser when trying accessing the service. And so the windows search won't connect to Bing neither. I don't really use bing for anything, but sometimes i like to just type my query in he search bar and get an answer from microsoft search engine. Maybe it's a debloating windows 10 script I ran. I didn't find any firewall rule blocking Bing.

I'm not familiar with how exactly dual booting works. Can I restore my ability to use ubuntu without screwing up my windows drive in *any* way? That means absolutely no write operations to the windows drive since I have yet to recover data from it.

And if it is possible by some miracle to restore windows on the corrupt drive, would restoring my ubuntu booting ability screw with windows in any way?

Could /g/ tell me what is wrong with this?
What I've got is basically an image stored in a variable (encoded in base64 to preserve it), and I decode it, pipe it into Imagemagick's convert tool to manipulate it, then pipe that into Imagemagick's display to show the image. After that I use the $! special parameter to get the PID of the latest command so I can terminate it later. this is the process:
echo "$image" | base64 -d | convert ---conversion--- | display - &
disPID=$!
#stuff here
kill $disPID

Now this works for me 99.9% of the time but every once in a while some shit will go down and the terminal will spit out this text below, BUT the script will continue to work
/script.sh: line (##): (PID1) Done                    echo "$image"
(PID2) | base64 -d
(PID3) | convert ---conversion---
(PID4) Terminated | display -

Anyone know why it will only happen so very infrequently, and how to stop it?

You can get a portable DAC/Amp (they are different things but you can find a single device with both inside as well) to carry with you and improve the sound of all your devices.

I don't have a particular recommendation, though. You should also make sure you have nice headphones, otherwise you probably won't hear the difference aside from extra loudness being possible with the amp.

It's not a good place.

Look at all the parts it lists and find ones you want on your own. Ask specific questions here if needed. e.g. "should I care about an m.2 slot? trying to pick a motherboard"

You should learn a lot in the process. As for the building, keep yourself grounded by touching the case periodically, everything should fit in without much force if it's being plugged into the right place. There's labels all over the motherboard but they're kind of hard to read. There's also a manual but you probably won't need it unless you get stuck at some part. Not everything gets plugged in, but you should still try to figure out why things aren't being used if you have extra cables.
>>
>>52628758
assemble it for the fun if you want, else you should have it assembled
>>
>>52628768
should I care about an m.2 slot? trying to pick a motherboard
>>
>>52628754
You'll have to make sure it fits physically, that it's possible to disconnect the current panel, and if the cable that connects the panel to the motherboard will still reach properly on the new panel. There was a certain model of ThinkPad where people often did a panel swap with one from another series and it usually involved needing a new cable because the plug was on the opposite side.
>>
>>52628778
m.2 is a slot about the size of a stick of gum. It's for very recent SSDs. I would say that it's worth having an m.2 slot if you're getting an SSD, as it doesn't take up any of the drive bays that your HDDs would go in. It also makes it easier to choose an SSD since there are fewer m.2 SSDs.

That is reassuring to hear, just keep in mind the thing I said about cable length with the ThinkPad then, assuming the panel you're getting is for a different model. If the panel is for the same model and your Latitude was just not configured as well as it could've been, there shouldn't be any issues.

I'm making a video game for fun in C++ using the SDL library.
Anyone got an input on how vertical sync works and how to manage it ?

If I activate it using the SDL flag, it just slow down everything in my game. how should I manage that ?

after a bit of digging apparently logitech uses a proprietary protocol for their wireless connection so it's not possible, at least not for the cheap muse I'm using, which is model number M185. Dumb question ahoy:

So a lot of games I play (CMANO, Command Ops 2) require me to set my DPI to 100% (currently it's at 175%, as I have a 13" ultrabook with a 3200x1800 res) which is a pain because it makes everything else microscopic and I have to log out to reset the DPI scaling.

Yy question is if I buy a large monitor, say, 27-34" will I be able to keep the DPI setting at 100% all the time and not have everything microscopic? Sorry guys, I know, I'm dumb, but advice would be nice.
>>

Yes. Let me know if you find a 3200x1800 monitor.

I was thinking the Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34-Inch Curved LED-Lit Monitor

Currently using a Dell XPS 13 (one of the new models) so it has nice resolution and the display is crisp, but I can't handle the eye strain at 100% DPI.

Given the real-estate with the monitor I'd be okay with the DPI at 100% and icons and text not being microscopic, right?

I have a spare HDD that I would love to turn into a network drive that I can access with all my devices (laptop, phone, main pc) without actually keeping the PC on.

What's a cheaper option? I could just stick it into my router but I don't want my ISP to see my shit.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2016/01/microsofts-clever-curved-keyboard-for-ios-looks-very-smart/

>>52632842
Nope. It's an active adapter, not just some passive pin mapping. HDMI to VGA parses the HDMI signal and runs it through a DAC to produce analog VGA output. That shit doesn't just run backward if you connect it in reverse.

>>52632500
Now sure what's most reliable, but 2 TB has been working out well for me since about 2011. I got a pair of WD Greens (since they're primarily media storage though one hosts a Linux OS on a headless always-on box). One lasted 5 years before developing a few bad sectors and being replaced, and the other is still going.

Yo /g/, I'm not really a mobile person, so I would appreciate some help. My iPhone just broke (screen cracked and half the touchscreen is unusable). I have a backup Motorola Defy Mini that I am trying to use, but I can't seem to get it (or rather, the Google Play Store) to work. I follow the instructions word for word (factory reset, set up my Google Account, sync it with the phone, accept the terms and agreements, etc), but EVERY time I try to open up the Google Play Store, it says "The Application Google Play Store has stopped unexpectedly". I'm assuming this is a problem with the phone or the OS because it makes absolutely no sense to me. The phone is running Android version 2.3.6 and says it is updated to the newest version (of course there are newer versions of Android, but I imagine that is the newest one my phone supports). Doing code academy and the task came up to print all numbers from 1 to 20 and then check if it is divisible by 3 or 5 or both and print something out.

Here is the working code:

for(i=1; i<21; i++){

if(i%3 === 0 && i%5 === 0){
console.log("FizzBuzz");
}
else if(i%3 === 0){
console.log("Fizz");
}

else if(i%5 === 0){
console.log("Buzz");
}

else{
console.log(i);
}
}

When I was first trying it out this was basically my code, but I did the check for for 3 AND 5 (&&) in an ELSE IF instead of the first IF statement. It wouldn't work.

My question is if there is a rule to do checks with multiple components in the first IF statement.
