What are some hobbies you guys are into. I want to get into Judo but don't want to fuck up my shoulder.

Into guitar but not a lot of interest since I just play rhythm.

Nothing besides lifting and running

I would like to get into rowing and kayaking and that kind of shit. Hiking would be cool. Too bad I live in a landlocked suburb. I could kayak on the reservoirs but I don't really have the equipment or the means to transport it.

Would also like to learn boxing or karate but just don't have the energy between work and working out.

I used to play video games all the time but I've lost all interest in them. Same with TV/Netflix save a handful of shows.

Gotta find some hobbies too.

>>

You consider this a hobby?
>>
>>41753178
I just started kayaking. It's great and very relaxing. You don't need much other than a car to transport them. You can buy the cheap foam things that you just place on top of the car. They come with straps that work just fine, and it's only about twenty five bucks.
My kayak was only one hundred off Craigslist.
If you plan on transporting two I suggest buying extra straps or bungies'. They're pretty easy to move around.
If you have a fit chick that enjoys the outdoors it's even better, but going out in your own is nice to. Fuck, i didn't mean for this to be so long. Get a kayak. You won't regret it.
>>
>>41753136
>some hobbies you guys are into
Watching documentaries/reading non-fiction
Doing math every now and then for a bit of fun, and to keep my mind sharp. Nothing hard tho.
Playing video games, but because of the competitive factor, the fun is secondary. I tend to rage a lot when RNG fucks me over, but every now and then I have a game where it's neck and neck, my heart is pumping, the adrenaline is flowing, and when I win, it feels almost as good as hitting a new PR.
Making up dark comedy stories.
>>
>>41753478
I'm definitely going to get into Kayaking. Got a bike but I get bored as I just tend to cruise along the same paths I run.

Thanks for the info.
>>
I read, Garden, play MTG and wargames which counts as painting to an extent I suppose, I cook and bake, I'm learning Irish Gaelic and also how to play guitar and do Death Metal vocals.

I really fucking hate being bored so I just have a lot of stuff to do when I get bored encase I'm not feeling one of them on a specific day.

I don't really have any /fit/ hobbies, I boxed when I was younger but outside of the gym I just do my nerd shit and go out with friends.

I have a side job/hobby freelance discipline training small dogs for people in my city. It's very rewarding because i love dogs and it's a good way to meet older women. One of my clients I've been training her pug for like a year now and he's totally house broken, obedient, and knows all the tricks I teach. She pumps me full of cash and I pump her full of jizz and I just take the dog for a walk once a week at this point. But I get a lot of real jobs too and I think its helped me become more alpha with people, because I have to alpha the dogs to get them to obey me.

Why do people think "lifting is a hobby"? Imagine it this way:

>hey man so what are your hobbies anyway?
>uh, pressups mainly.
>w-what?
>pressups.
>really?
>oh yeah, standard, diamond, elevated you name. Pressups.

Fucking hell. Please tell me you don't actually think suplementary workours counts as a "hobby"

My god you're autistic.

>hobby:1.
an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.

Lifting is a hobby
>>
>>41754680
That person who you're replying to is apparently operating under the assumption that a "hobby" is an activity you do to be "cultured", whatever that is.

Like cultivating your social and cultural resume.
>>
What I tell people my hobbies are
>playing drums and piano
>boxing
>running
>learning history, philosophy, physics

What I actually do
>shitpost on /fit/ and go to the gym while all my music /sports equipment gathers dust
>>
>>41754701
>>41754680

So your saying working out is a "hobby"?
Holy shit, ok then, my hobby is sleeping. Thats a nice thing i like to do in my spare time that is pleasurable to me.
>>
>>41754727
Also I forgot to add
>fish and aquariums
>>
I do BJJ, currently a blue belt. Did MMA for years but can't afford the bruises given my job.
>>
>>41754736
Sleeping is a necessity, lifting is not. Go take some meds to calm that raging autism of yours, faggot.
>>
>>41754736
Sleeping is a bodily function, you do not do it for pleasure at your spare time, you autismal muppet
>>
>>41754753
>Masturbating is a "hobby"
>browsing 4chan is a "hobby"

Nah, your just rekt mate. The gym is a supplement, nothing more. Sorry you thought it was padding for personality or some shit.

>>
>>41754787
>>41754777
>>41754775

Look lads, all im saying is, working out, wther that be weights, cardio or bodyweight or whatever is a supplement to the REAL hobby, like a sport or some shit. Only a personality deficient would need to prop up his ego with "the gym is a way of life" and all that other meme crap. Its just training to me, nothing more. An essential part of being in better shape, not a fucking pasttime or hobby.

To go back to my orginal point:
>"My hobby is pressups"

Why is that statement any more retarded than "lifting is my hobby?" You cant just sweep every realisation that hurts your feelings with "a-autsim"
>>
>>41754803

>>41754797
>sitting around is my hobby
>relaxing is my hobby
>ironing my cloths is a hobby
>excercise such as push ups is my hobby
>>
>>41754813
Explain how lifting weights isn't a hobby? Your argument is taking lifting, taking a piece of lifting (press ups) and acting like an action in a hobby is the whole hobby.

By definition, lifting is a hobby. Sports can ALSO be a hobby in which the hobby of lifting benefits it. But it's still a hobby.

By your logic, singing isn't a hobby unless you are in a band, and shooting guns isn't a hobby unless you kill people.

Sorry anon, i just don't buy it about working out. All of it. I lift, i run. I have never thought of it as something of note, or a topic of concersation or anything that adds to my personality. Its just actions to keep the body going. As far as im concerned its just neccesery, nothing more.
>>
>>41754864
:) you too anon
>>
>>41754872
It's not necessary, hence why it's a hobby. Do you actually, legitimately have autism? Because no normal person would struggle with this concept.
>>
>>41754832
Who made you the hobby gestapo?if you legit look forward to ironing your clothes and enjoy it immensely and research and perfect new techniques and have your friends come over with their iron and laundry and do it together and talk about it at the water cooler at work and spend money on equipment etc... Then yeah. Its a hobby.
>>
>>41754883
Then breathing must be a hobby because people keep talking about it and researching it and buying equipment for it.

So to clarify do we just say a hobby is ANYTHING we do that is not essential in our spare time? If so, then i say some hobbies are shit to be takled about/ bought up and lifting is one of them.

We all lift here (i assume?) and would say its a boring "hobby" then. Certainly not worth mentioning. I mean, you could also raise worms as a hobby but.... Jesus christ...

Making a perfect hobby out of it is yeah. My point is, hobbies ought to be something worth of note i think, and to me, my lifting during the week is about as interesting as my ironing during the week. Its just something i need to get done.

Judo is very fun if you can find a gym where they actually train hard. Shoulder injuries aren't that common, but if you have a really good day of training you will feel pretty worn out the next day. Sometimes it feels like you got in a car crash if things go really well in practice, but its also very gratifying at the same time. For me really exhausting yourself against a good training partner is like multiplying the satisfaction of lifting by five.

most krav maga gyms are scammy mcdojos which you should avoid

a legit krav maga gym will teach you how to fight someone who is untrained well and quickly. Emphasis on untrained, it doesn't work if the person knows how to fight. Competitive krav maga doesn't exist

BJJ gyms vary, but most will focus around sporting BJJ/ MMA. Which is good, it'll teach you how to hold your own against someone on the ground, including other fighters. A pure sport BJJ won't teach you how to defend against reckless, dirty attackers, won't teach you how to strike. There are gyms that do combat or self defense BJJ which would fill some of those gaps.

If you're in it for sport/ fun BJJ 100%. If you want to learn how to fight fighters BJJ, if you can find combat/ self defence BJJ, do that. Generally BJJ gyms will be higher quality but probably more expensive too

>"the gym is a way of life"
fucking this. I always cringe when I see guys on facebook putting a pic related or saying how clubbing is shit and how gym is something godlike. Gym is a building with a bunch of weights that you lift to become fucking jacked, yet some faggots treat gym like some kid of "their" place.
Also, I even hate more those bodybuilders who always say motyvational quotes about how you should not give up and everything is achievable, implying that they didnt gave up either, cus they're jacked. Nigger, all you need to do to achieve your goal is go to the gym 4 times a week and eat. Bodybuilding is fucking easy, even retard can do it, it doesnt require basicly any knowledge, just dedication, yet all meatheads treat it like some kind of god's work. These bodybuilding faggots could never write a book, create business, IT project or some other difficult shit. Fuck them
>>

I want to get into volunteer work, like talking with cancer patients that have no friends or family, or soup kitchen type stuff.

All i do is basic shit, go to work, work out, eat, sleep watch tv. I have no meaning to anyone, not even myself. Not even joking, maybe i should get into scientology just to get some purpouse in life. The only commitment i have right now is getting up and going to work, the rest is just nothing.

Its just people who have never played real sports in their lives, started with physical activity after puberty and realized its pretty fun and healthy.
Combine this with deep-rooted insecurity and disdain for everything "normie" and you get unathletic, contrarian fatties condescending against everything that is not heavy barbell training. The identity they adopt gives them a sense of community and a concept of the "enemy"

Yes, getting big and strong is not necessarily easy (for some it is also easy), but it is simple. Like weightloss. For the general population, its totally doable if they are disciplined. There is no talent or advantageous body proportions or beneficial skeletal structure required to get "big".
It is totally different from real competitive sports, where even at lower levels you get humiliated if you are unathletic. In PL its not like this. Which is also why there hardly are any real olympic weightlifters here, because it requires more than just eating a lot, training hard and sleeping well
>>
>>41758177
>Never played real sports in their lives
>Only started physical activity after puberty
>Tfw I am the opposite of this
I always played sports hard. But never took training/bodybuilding properly. Got fat in and after college. Wanted to do sports again but couldn't because I ruined my body with late night snacks. So I started to go to the gym to lose weight and gain my agility and strength again.

Being obsessed with anything is just unhealthy in general. But if it helps people to get fit then so be it.
>>
>>41758208
Pretty similar to me. After a bad injury, I wasn't active at all, started recently and look fucking great already tbqh
But its "just" weightlifting right now, and while I enjoy it a lot, playing championships with your teammates in front of 500-600 paying fans, traveling the country to get your ass handed (important part of it as well) or to fucking dominate, training 4 times a week + gym + game, its an experience that's hardly comparable to hitting new PRs or whatever.
That being said, I'm glad my competitive sports days are over. Fucks your body up too much in the long run.

i agree that normies that post that shit are gay as fuck considering most of them will quit lifting after a few years when real life gets busy, stressful, depressing, tough, etc.

but the gym is a church to me. it bothers me a little in a REEE sort of way cause i spent years on friday and saturday nights under the bar in a squat rack in empty gyms. now its full of guys and girls with $300 beats headphones and multicolored leggings and various other poor fashion accessories and choices.

in the end, who really cares? nothing means anything, anymore. there is no good, nor is there any bad. there is nothing.

literally all my hobbies are free, because i made them that way. you don't have to pay a cent to access the entirety of the literary, musical and film canon, or to do yoga and running and calisthenics, or to meditate or do any kind of study. sure life is expensive and time is always short but your means and living conditions as a working class citizen are what you think they are. you could've been born 75 yrs ago, during the long dark night, and your mind would've been as adaptable as it is now. never blame circumstance. there's a way outta poverty. it lies in realization of what's enough. so enrich yourself, you have enough. you just don't know it. go get em. money, glory, all those fleeting things of untrue worth.

Real estate investing, equity investing, car modification, gunsmithing, competitive shooting, backpacking/bushcraft, and computers.

Real estate investing: Been doing it for 5 years, have nearly enough rentals, 15 of em to quit my job.

Equity Investing: Made some good stock and forex picks early on and now mainly keep my money in dividend yielding stocks backed by companies that can reliably grow their cash on their balance sheet.

Car modification: MkIII 1JZ Supra with 45k original miles (yeah, I know, total find). Only light mods so far, but has about 380 at the wheels.

Gunsmithing: Restored a really beat up Winchester 1895 lever action chambered in 7.62x54r (the russian contract ones) to near new condition. The most expensive part was getting it restocked (the stock was practically dry rotting off) from a custom stocker, but I did all the metal restoration.

Competitive shooting: I've just started long range shooting at this 1000 yard range. Really getting into it.

Backpacking/Bushcraft: Just spent 2 weeks in the wemenuche wilderness in the san juans in colorado this last march. Me all by my lonesome with minimal supplies. Getting dropped off and picked up by the durango-silverton steam locomotive is an amazing experience for those interested.

Computers: Saving to build a new clean slate AMD Ryzen box.

I dont think this is the case 100% either.

There are very articulate boxers out there. It depends on how you fight and how ypu train.

Work on your defense. Don't be a brawler that stands and eats punches with his face.

I don't like to get hit myself.
>>
>>41756242
When I started I was 6'3" and 265 lbs. my coach was 5'7" and like 160, but he could basically turn me upside down at will for like a year. The thing about fighting is that it's so unpredictable that the more I train the less I want to fight guys in the street. Someone who trains definitely has a huge advantage against some random guys, but its not an assurance.

It is definitely worth doing in my opinion and Judo doesn't have all the "just bleed" ex-cons mma gyms tend to have while also letting you go 90-100% at most practices unlike the hobbiest bjj gyms here in the US. There's exceptions to all those cases, but that seems to be the norm in my experience.

I want to try BJJ but I've never done any martial arts before. I'm very uncoordinated (probably because of my height), so I'm kinda nervous about it. Any tips?
>>
>>41756312
If no one is breathing hard at any point during practice then they're probably half-assing the slower technique training too.

They should show you how to fall and a few basic throws, then let you jump right into full speed sparring the first day or week at least.

You should see if they train groundwork, like chokes and pins Its a really basic part of Judo that some gyms ignore because they get embarrassed they don't know how to do it.

Its generally better if they go to tournaments regularly. I got as much out of doing my first tournament as my first six months of training. Gyms where they test themselves at tournaments have better focus in practice and train harder.

I don't run at all. I used to run quite a bit before I started, but it didn't help very much. It's extremely exhausting when you first start because it taxes muscles differently than running or lifting weights, so unless you wrestled or something you just have to adapt to the training over time.
>>
>>41766307
BJJ gyms are designed for people like you. Most people who start bjj never played sports even. It was really nerve racking to show up for me, but the secret is that they want your money so they're very welcoming. That's not a bad thing either, I do Judo mostly but every bjj gym I've been to has pretty skilled students with a laid back atmosphere.

There are literally people missing their legs who are dangerous at bjj, so you being gangly is not really an impediment. Literally anyone can get a black bely in bjj regardless of physical gifts, it just takes a while. I would really regret never having tried it, especially since its so accessible these days.
