How do you respond when people ask "How did you lose so much weight?".

Me: "hehe, stopped eating spaghetti every day and added some veggies instead"

Not gonna unveil my power level to plebs.

That or I spout whatever fad weightloss thing is current popular
>>
>>41434955
I unveiled my powerlevel and got someone really in to lifting. Like they gym 3-5 times a week and do diddlys, squats, and so on where before they'd just jiggle jog on the treadmill.
Got another to start counting calories.

Really neato.

/FAT/ I AM MAD EXPLAIN TO ME
i am 88kg and 188 cm at a fat percentage of 16%. wanted to lose 10 kg in 2 months so i did everything you told me. I was ordered to eat 1600 kcal a day but i pushed the limits and did 1450 kcal avarage. I went to the gym 3 times a week and also went runnning for 2 days a week. I AM A MONTH IN BUT WHY TF DO I STILL LOOK THE SAME AND HAVE I LOST JUST 1 KG. LOSERTOWN SAID I WOULD BE 82 KG BY NOW
>>
>Started at 5'9", 231 lbs
>Down to 183 after a year just dieting
>About 20lb more to go and I'm at goal weight
>Start a new job tomorrow that has a gym basically down the corridor from my office

So is now the time to finally hit up a gym, or should I wait for the last of this fat to slough off me first? It feels like it's be wasted because I'm eating so little, there's no way I'm going to build any muscle. And cardio is no fun when you're fat.
>>
183cm M
Started lifting and dieting at 138kg march 1st, did 1 month of 1800~ normal macros and lost about uh.. 2kg? Half of April I started keto, now i'm down to 133 and been there for 3 weeks. I eat < 20g carbs (all from broccoli and green shit) and 1500 kcal. This should be a huge deficit yet nothing is really changing. What gives? Workouts are really hard and tire me out, currently 115kg squats/dl for reps and 70kg bench. Why am i not shedding fat like a motherfucked fronds?
>>
>>41435095
Are you only eating shit food? Did you up your water intake? Do you do any cardio, or only lifts? Do you work out hard, or just dick around for 20 minutes?
Watch what the fuck you eat and walk/cycle most places. Lifting helps but if you want fast results like that you need to also add cardio.
What lifestyle did you put in when you did your losertown calc? You probably overestimated and you're probably not measuring your food correctly/not being truthful about what you eat. Log EVERYTHING you put in your mouth. A spoonful of bbq sauce doesn't seem like much but it adds up.
If you are lifting hard and doing the right thing, take a photo of yourself today and keep going. A month from now do the same thing and if you don't see results you need to change

>>41435134
Buy ketostix and make sure you're actually in ketosis. You should've blasted water like a sick bastard by now.

Drink like half a gallon of water a day too and make sure your protein isn't exceeding around 150g or else it converts to glucose and kicks you out of ketosis.

Otherwise make sure you're recording everything properly. Odd that you're not losing.

>>41435128
Always workout on a cut. Its slow but its worth it. Dividing up the labor by cutting to your goal and then lifting is... weird to me, but different strokes for different folks.

Start tomorrow. You'll be surprised.
>>
>>41435691
But you'd still lose weight right? Your body just reutilizes the given intake resources into more muscles mass?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around this while keeping the fundamental thermodynamic laws and shit (basically cico)

>>41435624
188cm
>>
>>41435740
Yes you would. Muscle weight wouldn't make your bodyweight fluctuate that much. It takes months and months.
>>
>>41435723
Yeah, I should have.

I don't think I can find ketostix in jewroop but my piss smells foul so I probably am in ketosis. I drink at least 2.5 liters per day of water and meticulously log shit on MFP. It's been teeling me for 1 month and a half that i'll be 124 in 5 weeks ;_; I wish.
>>
>>41435742
By measurements I meant the circumference of your waist, arms, things, hips, etc.
You don't need a fancy scale for that. Just go spend a dollar or two on a seamstress measuring tape
>>
>Basically, if you have hormone issues then you'll always have some fat that will seem impossible to get rid of. For me it was my love handles, even at 15% bodyfat I was looking pretty fat because of the handles. And because hormone problems prevent you from building muscle effectively, you'll always look fatter than you actually are. Better get your shit fixed before getting frustrated.

This is me, how do I fix it

I had been stalled for a week after good losses doing keto IF for a month or 2
so I recarbed on my birthday and the next day went to a Basque restaurant
fucking ate everything that was keto friendly. veg soup , salad with fatty dressing , goat stew , prime rib .
scale goes down !
>>
So I started Keto about 3 weeks ago and it's done amazing things, I've dropped INCHES and about 10-15lbs

But I've plateaued I think or I'm fucking up cuz I'm not leaving that much of a deficit for myself (400-100 calories).

Now, I'm also trying to get to where I can join the police department, my workout plan is a monday-friday split with cardio three times a week including HIIT.

My question is, is it safe to move into TKD or CKD and give a dose of carbs to my body this early or is it jumping the gun?

>TLDR: TKD/CKD, three weeks into keto and about to do lots of cardio and calsthetics, what do?

>>
>>41435979

That was my mistake. I did it on high because I thought that is how you make pancakes. But then I got scared that I might burn my pan so I ended up making that disaster. It wasn't undercooked though. Also my bananas weren't as ripe as they should have been

Just as it takes time to lose weight, it takes time to gain it.
>>
>>41436443
>>41436465

this. if you're going to keep up a good diet for the rest of your life (which you should), you need to learn how to do things in moderation and allow yourself to live. A cheat day and a slip-up now and then won't ruin you.

don't be afraid of food, anon. it's unhealthy.

Hey fellow fatties.
I suffer from familial hypercholesterolemia. basically, my body processes cholesterol at roughly half the efficiency as a normal body. Since it's hereditary i've had it my entire life, and i've also been fat most of my life. Left untreated this diease puts anyone at a massively increased chance of heart- blood and vessel-related complications.
Doctors wanted to delay medication for as long as possible and just treat it with diet, but my fat ass was at a seriously dangerous level by the time i was 11, so i started medicating.
still, my cholesterol was roughly 150% higher than ideal two years ago. that was when i moved out.

Taking control of my life and eating right has not only lost me 35lbs, but my cholesterol is now so stable and low that you can't tell i have the condition by my blood tests any more.

I am so happy. keep going, we're gonna make it

Did that by having 0 money.

Didn't feel hunger after the third day, had trouble getting up stairs, felt constantly thirsty, got light headaches quite often, hair suffered for the duration, acne cleared up, slept 10 hours a day, and obviously lost a lot of weight. Metabolism was a bit rekt after and i was gaining weight on 1000kcal/day for about a week.

It wasn't that bad, but I see no reason to do it unless you're forced to.

Havent eaten any sugar or carb bombs (candy/chips/pizza etc) for a month now and I dont have any carving for that shit any longer.

Living with my parents, my mom constantly buy sodas for everyone to drink because shes a retard. There are literally 4 filled soda bottles in the fridge atm because im not drinking anything, she started to complain that they are getting "expired" rofl.

The only thing I think off every time I see suger or carb bombs is how much it is gonna stop my weight loss and muscle gains.

Does anybody know whether eating below deficit genuinely has a negative affect on weight loss? I can manage on 1200 calories a day (tdee is 2060) but I'm consistently told this is too low.

Even on this amount, I find it takes me a long time to lose any weight. Am I doing myself a disservice by eating this low or should I just keep on and wait for the outcome?
>>
is this a good way to start keto? I know it's reddit but whatever.

https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/one_week_meal_plan
>>
>>41437464
From my experience eating below 60% of your TDEE is fucking miserable. You can do it, but it will drop your leptin levels, generally make you feel like shit, make you feel tired, etc.

I mean, is that extra 0.3 lbs a week really worth feeling so shitty?
>>
I tried to do low carb - under 50g a day. I hit ketosis very quickly and lost 6lbs in a week (although I'd been stalling for three months on a calorie deficit and 5 workouts a week).

Is it likely that low carb just works with me better than low calorie, or is it more likely that my three months of healthy eating and working out just balanced out and caught up with me?
>>
>>41437487

I really don't feel bad on it though. I've been on between 1200-1600 calories a day for...as long as I can remember really, and I've not lost much weight at all. I should be eating 2060 a day so it doesn't really make sense to me. I work out as well, so really my calorie intake should be even higher.

I'm a bit concerned that I'm doing something massively wrong, or maybe my metabolism is fucked for eating low for so long.

I count everything. There's no way I'm sneaking 600 cals in each day. It's really frustrating.
>>
>>41437178
Good job anon. What time did it take you to lose that amount?
>>
How long did it take you all to see a change on the scale and what is your average weight loss each week?
>>
>>41437517
>I'm a bit concerned that I'm doing something massively wrong, or maybe my metabolism is fucked for eating low for so long.

The same thing happened to me, just coming from an anecdotal perspecitve: I went eating about 1200-ish calories a day for a few months and had 0 weight loss for a while. I'm pretty sure I was just undereating and my body adjusted to it accordingly, so lowering my energy levels for the day and just feeling more tired overall.

On someone's suggestion I did a restart and ate at maintenance for about 3 weeks while maintaining my exercise and activities. I gained about 2-3 pounds but it didn't really feel like it. Once I jumped back on track, weight loss started progressing smoothly again.

It's just a broscience analysis, but I think heavier deficits need more refeeds (aka reminders that the deficit is NOT your normal calorie intake) than a typical 1lb per week one would. As of right now I do a refeed of maintenance + 20% calories every 2 weeks and every two months I give myself a cheat day to go insane and binge on stuff I've been craving. It's not a perfect system but it's worked well for me.

>>41437537
If you're eating properly you should see a change every week, even if only a pound.
>>
>>41437622

Thank you. Most weekends I do eat more than I do through the week, no more than 2000, so I always considered this to be the day when I kick start my body. Every other day, it's 1600 or lower.

I lose inches, I'm told I'm much slimmer than I was (I'd post my photos for reassurance if I was braver) but the scale just isn't showing this. It's very frustrating and I don't want to keep doing it wrong.

More energy, sometimes weird taste in your mouth or bad breath. Less cravings for sugar.
Better concentration.
It can take days or weeks to get into deep ketosis, depending on how used your body is to burning ketones.

Is there any point to following a routine on a cut instead of just doing whatever exercise that burns the most calories? It's my understanding that there's no way for muscles to grow if you're eating under your TDEE.
>>
>>41440056
yes, because as your bf% lowers your loose skin will look better over muscle, your muscle does actually grow on a cut, as fat people we are already in dirty bulk mode
>>
>>41438775
it's a start , switch to water next anon
>>
So if you're a fatty eating at your normal maintenance level, not a deficit, can you still build muscles at the gym? Or do you have to be eating above your resting calorie needs to build muscle?
>>
>>41440152
You can, but it will be slow and you will never notice it.

You can still make noob gains on a cut so no reason not to eat at a deficit.

Not my experience but its much faster and effective to bulk and cut.
You're talking about recomping and it takes a lot of time.
I suggest to cut if you're a fatty and then clean bulk, then cut again.
Also to answer your question - if you hit your macros (especially protein) and take vitamins its easy to maintain muscle and gain newbie gains even on a hard deficit.

the sticky is also very basic and not intended for obese folks.

you CAN gain muscle at maintenance while you're 30% bodyfat. The question is not "can I?", it's "should I?" and the answer is no.

Like the other anons have been saying, anyone and everyone who isn't malnourished can make strength gains regardless of diet for about 3-4 months of lifting. But if that's the case and you're fat, you might as well just cut and get the double whammy of less fat and more strength.

It has been 1 and 1/2 years and I have finally learned how to use all of the equipment in my gym.

Lifting 3 days a week, I have lost 45lbs in the 2 years, but I'm still 300lbs.

I feel like this is finally gonna be it, and I'm finally gonna lose all of this weight, BUT I have a problem.

I have no direction in what I'm doing. I have no routine. I just show up with my fat self, lift 3 days out of the week, and maybe do cardio here and there, but there's nothing more I do. I don't change my diet, and now my joints are slowly withering, so I'm afraid that this routine-less life will get me nowhere.

270 > 245 last weigh in.

It's hard and there are plenty of days I just want to give up but then I look at those pictures I took of day 1 and realize why this suffering is just a hurdle.

we're all gonna make it brahs.

I usually say that I only eat solid food ever 3 days, otherwise it's just scoops.

When they ask about scoops, I tell them about Rich Piana and lead them on a guide to getting even fatter

1500 cal erry day. 500 brekkie, 500 lunch, 500 dinner. C'mon god dammit!
>>
>>41442216
Unless you're completely sedentary aka you sit all day from start to finish 1500 at 279 is just torture.

I've gone down 25 on 1900 a day.

~1800 is what I should be at to lose 2lbs/week

stop doing this. The most frequent you should be doing is weekly.

Yet instead of losing 2 pounds per week, you're hovering around 279, no? Gotta eat small to get small.

Is it bad if that feeling is always there?
>>
>>41442322
If you're on keto or water starvation you'll feel depressed until you get off of it.
However, the worst of it is when ketosis kicks in. The first few days / week after ketosis kicks in you'll feel the saddest.
Then you'll feel energetic but a tiny bit sad.
Then you'll feel normal and just generally sad.

Working out cheers you up due to the dopamine and such, but otherwise keto in general puts you in a bit of a depressive state. It's honestly the only thing I don't like about the diet (Well, and not being able to drink alcohol at all. Otherwise I'd just do it permanently instead of only during cuts).
>>
>>41442345
>people willingly get depressed just to lose weight a little faster
fuck that. If I wanted to feel like killing myself I wouldn't have moved out of new mexico.
>>
>>41442371
It's to lose weight and minimize muscle loss, so that the majority of weight you lose each week is fat.
Keto is the best way to just lose fat while natty.
Otherwise you're better off with dnp + tren if you just want to be lazy.
>>
>>41442404
this is a /fat/ thread though. Nobody here will be losing much muscle overall unless they're a """""powerlifter""""".
>>
>>41442418
Yea but if you do keto from /fat/ you'll end up being in decent shape when you get it down to low bodyfat%, way better shape than someone that was just skinny their whole life for example.
>>
>>41442435
but the same thing would happen if you just work out and count calories.
>>
>>41442453
With keto however, you'll draw more from fat.
>>
>>41442473
eh, I'd rather lose a bit more muscle and not have mood swings personally. Dieting sucks enough as is.
>>
>>41442473
>>41442490
Doesn't Keto also have a nasty withdrawll period where it's common to gain 10-30 lbs after you switch to maintenance eating before shit stabilizes itself? Seems like it'd be better to just learn proper dieting and exercise than rely on a gimmick diet with whiplash.
>>

>>

Gain it back. As muscle.
>>
>>41442579
it's tough anon. I still mention "i'm fat and trying to lose weight" and people will look at me like I'm crazy. I want to look good to ME, and not anyone else. So sometimes those comments are really discouraging.

But yeah, the only way to go is forward and your eyes will adjust to the brightness.
>>
>>41436952
Good shit anon. My family has hypertension in the genes that's what got me started on my fitness journey. We are gonna make it breh.
>>
Okay, had like 4 events (aka food orgies) this weekend, graduation season and Mother's Day and whatnot. I didn't go crazy, hell, I feel like I wasted a lot of food over the weekend, which I hate doing (I'm not going to be anti-social and uptight at events for the sake of dieting). But now I can finally get back to my life and prepare for a full 7 day fast on may 21-27. If anyone's interested in joining me let me know.
>>
>>41434955
Just tell them I have a great metabolism and that I eat whatever I want.
>>
>>41442227
No its not. Eat better food. Went from 280 to 220 on 1500, lifts improves, no fatigue, 12+ hours a week exercise
>>
>>41434955
I tell them the same thing that got me to cut weight. It's simply a matter of counting calories. Working out and eating healthy food helps. But nothing other than calories really matters when it comes to weight loss.
>>
>>41442345
Never had this once in the 3 months I was on keto

Increased carbohydrate intake and replenished glycogen stores could amount to 5, even 10 pounds of water weight regain; but you're not gonna lose 50 pounds on keto, go back to normal food, and turn back into a fat as fatass overnight.
>>
>>41435128
I am also 5'9, at around 235 lbs right now
I have absolutely no strength at all (i'm a very fat and weak person)
Started going for long walks this past week as exercise and started cooking more of my own meals and eating out less. Looking to start drinking only water and stop eating out entirely and finally get a healthy diet going (i want to get that habit fixed before fixing my exercise)

What kind of diet did you do? Was it as simple as just counting calories or did you also eat specific types of food and avoid others?

The sleep isn't bad and won't kill you.

Not going to the gym is a hard one until you actually enjoy it and protip you most enjoy it too much until you start looking good or are strong.
(People may disagree but I hated going until I outlifted half the normies there)
Eat less
Just do IF, if you have a 4 hour eating window no way you'll be able to stuff your face with that much shit.
caffeine?
I chug that shit.
>>
>>41443078
Same except I actually signed up for the gym about a month or two ago and have only gone once. (bad) but i did stop eating out and cut everything but water recently (good) except i am pretty much just cooking either chicken/fish/some meat along with rice or pasta all the time (if i remember i'll make some veggies) plus i don't count calories. So overall making some progress but not really. I am still the same weight as months ago (good news i am not getting bigger but i am not losing any weight)

No idea how to get motivated and focused to stick to healthier habits. Especially not being much of a social person to have someone kick my ass into gear. Meh

>>
>>41443156
No idea man. I just don't feeling motivated most of the time. It's like I kinda know what I need to get started and usually I start off well but I fall back and lose motivation. Eventually I start back up again, eat healthy, go exercise. but I always revert back. It sucks man.

After several failed diet/exercise regiments for the last 15 years or so I've finally hit the one that's working. Not really sure whats changed, other than that I have a job that is physically taxing, but I'm afraid maybe I've been too successful . Going on 80 days now since I started recording my caloric intake, started at 6'3" 304 pounds. Am now 250, sticking to 12-15 hundred calories a day. I've heard from some people that there can be negative consequences to too much weight loss. I'm not exactly starving myself, but what do you think /fit/?

I have 5 and 10 lbs dumb bells at home. I want to start some exercises. I have practically no strength. The 5 lb dumb bells are sometimes too much for me right now.

I started jogging almost every day for cardio. Will using these dumb bells for some exercises at home be enough to start? How long until the 5 and 10 lbs become useless to me and I have to buy heavier ones or just hit the gym?

Chicken breast.
Greek yogurt.

Vegetables are NOT filling but eat them anyway for the fiber.

1 month max. Your body will make strength gains quickly on those sort of things.

Most people start off at 15 or 20 lb and slowly move up from there.
>>
>>41443784
a full glass of water with every meal will help immensely regardless of what you eat.

I don't know if it still holds true since they rebranded but medifast made me drop from 240 to 170 in about 4 months.

Most of their meals tasted like shit though and the whole experience was awful. It worked like magic though.

You mean a fatty? You'd go out with a fatty if you were thinner man?
Cut the vidyas for a while. A lot of cooking buisness don't ake too long to do, and you can do something else when they'rewarming up (just put an alarm or something and go stir them up sometimes).
Like breast chicken, i don't know. Put some carrots and potatoes in some broth with bay leaf or something, wait for them to be softer, put some breast chicken. Once everything is cooked, get them out. You got your meal for a few days and this barely took any time to do. You can even drink the broth if you want. Same for cooking hard boiled eggs or something.
If you have time to cook pasta or warm up ome pizza you literally have no excuse.

I'm not gonna yell at ya. I ain't gonna scream or insult. Not gonna tell ya to kill yourself. None of that

Fact is, around here we're all in the same boat, so to speak. We know the trouble

Join up with us and we'll be with you, because we stay in the boat and one day we'll reach the shore. Some folks jump off and go it alone, because they found the strength and found it better to swim. Or else you'll jump off the boat and sink.

If you make a mistake you'll probably get a talking to, but fact is, only you can keep yourself aboard, and the boat keep on moving, whether you're on it or not

We're glad to have you along, but ain't none of us can keep you here. It's gotta be you, from the first step or the last

So ask. Are you going to make it?
