Stretching, mobility routines and some easy bodyweight work will do wonders for you. My quads/hammies were so tight that they ached if I was still for more than 15 minutes, it got so bad that it was interfering with sleep and work. Once I started actually using rest days to loosen up it cleared up. My lifts improved a little too, since I could actually hit a proper ROM without feeling like I was about to snap

The program I posted above is designed to be one heavy set of 3-5 reps in each exercise, followed by 4x10 at lower weight.

You start with 1x3 and when you can do 1x5 with that weight you raise it and repeat the process, always doing 4x10 at a lighter weight of your choosing.

So which is it? If you didn't make gains it means you didn't do the program, and if you didn't make gains it means you should have altered the program?

I've run SS, I've done TM, I've read Rippe's books and I know what his stances are and as far as beginner training there is nothing wrong with what he says, but the Rippetoe approved intermediate programs are truly terrible

also adding volume to a weekly progression scheme only works to a certain extent, after which you won't be able to recover in time for intensity day (but you may still need even more volume to progress)

Apparently SOME COACHES think that if you use more volume than the minimum that you need to progress you will stall on that volume faster than if you progressed on the minimum all the time.

A needs 10 volume, does 10, stalls in 1 month, increases to 20, progresses, stalls in 1 month, gets 2 months of gains

no, I ran TM years ago and my experience was pretty much what I outlined: get to ID, stall, follow the stock suggestions to no effect

my lifts weren't even particularly high, and it was the worst on my deadlift (which coming off of SS was my best lift) which actually regressed a little

in general, more volume you can recover from = more gains, but the weekly setup of TM puts an unreasonably short timeline on this stress-recovery-adaptation process

look at other routines, they do it over the course of a month or even multiple months

I followed TM for a bit less than a year and was progressing more or less at the rate of ~1.5kg a week, if averaged over that term. Last year I did only 1-3RM training for a few months due to a bunch of traumatic injuries but I'm hopping back on TM.

That said I jumped on it when I was a total noob and failed, was a combo of inflated maxes and not eating enough.

YMMV, but it's in no way a shitty, non-working program.

I feel like adding one thing to this: Weekly and monthly progression doesn't really say much about how much you're really adding to your lifts. Linear programs build on making small PR:s as often as you can, while slower programs allows you to accumulate more fatigue and adapt, putting enough stress on you that huge PR*s become possible. It wouldn't surprise me if some people can put more on their total in X amount of months by doing a slower program than by doing weekly progression, even if they're at the stage where weekly progression usually would work.

That's not how average works. If he adds 2,5 kg a week for 3 weeks, then stalls during the fourth, the average progress for those 4 weeks becomes 7,5/4=1,875 kg per week.
