But is was. I can't imagine anything ever being better than this. It was a 20 minute, well animated episode of the most fanservice laden series imaginable, entirely focused on a girl who's growing gigantic and can't stop. You're the one assigning those expectations to them. They admitted it's probably the best one could possibly hope for from the mainstream, that means they weren't *expecting* anything anything more and in fact expected a lot less. Nothing wrong with that, if it works for you that's great, just don't selling it like it's loaded with interaction that really sells the giantess when it simply isn't.

I expected nothing and was pleasantly surprised by the content, but I'm not impressed by it. Surpassing low expectations isn't impressive. The best I can reasonably expect from content geared towards a mainstream audience just doesn't appeal to me very much, that isn't quite the same as being bitter.

I believe there's lot of hidden potential in those japanese skulls, but they're afraid of rejection.

Also, you're right. most of people (myself included) had rather low expectations for this, and for me that episode surpassed them pretty easily. Although I expected some kind of crushing on the castle, but it never came, whatever. It was pretty decent overall.

For a TV anime, it's got the highest tier animation you can expect. Compared to a lot of the trash that's aired, or hentai tier, or kids stuff like Precure that's been mentioned.

It's not "holy shit" film or OVA quality, it's not the sort of exceptional sakuga that sometimes goes into adrenalin fueled fight scenes, but it's definitely upper percentile animation. Things have some shading, weight, depth, fluid movement when things move, no evident QUALITY.

You fundamentally misrepresent or misunderstand my position. I'm not even sure you understand what the words "expect", "standard", or "disappointed" mean the way you bandy them about.

I am not nihilistic, I am realistic. It's not that everything is, was, and will always be shit, it's that I do not expect anything targeting a mainstream audience will truly cater to me or those who share my interests, and I appreciate why that is the case. It's not worth the money to do the animation necessary to give a real impression of a truly enormous character for more than a few seconds. It's possible even without violent interactions that would alienate the target audience, but it's not worth the effort. If I see it happen I'm not going to say "well fuck, it can't be good so it isn't." I'm not going to smack my boner down and say "NO, we will NOT be enjoying this." I just haven't seen it happen except in glimpses, glimpses like what I see in the first growth scene in these clips.

I have never been super jacked for anything animated, unless you count Manzi's MMD work, and those have *disappointed* me because I had *expectations*. I liked Jungle De Ikou, I *like* these Valkyrie Drive clips, but I'm not going to pretend they're anything spectacular or that it really gets me hard. They could be much better, I could like something a lot more, I just don't *expect* anything well ever spend the money necessary to get all the elements right to sell the effect convincingly.

As the person who wrote the story, I think it's a pretty reasonable criticism.
