There are many many worse things to buy on hardback (I just bought Ultimate Avengers by Millar on hardback). It's by no means perfect but it serves its purpose. And it know it's stupid but I love definitive endings or finite series that don't become ongoing.

It's Millar pulling a Millar on his own works. At face value, it's just edge for the sake of edge and pretty shitty. Hell, I didn't think it was any good my first time reading it. Years later, I reread it all and it donned on me that it actually had this layer of self-awareness that I didn't notice my first time reading it.

It's Millar doing for the Ultimates what the Ultimates did for the Avengers. It's what happens when you take something that's already edgy and cinematic and trying to make it edgier and more cinematic. It pretty much wraps back around and becomes a black comedy in the end and I love it for it.

There were so many good ideas introduced and they all meshed together brilliantly. The final arc where the Avengers face off against the Ultimates is batshit insane and I love it.

I was actually surprised by the reveal of "mapone". I know everyone may not agree but I was satisfied by the ending.

I'm 5 episodes into the Defenders and so far its my least favorite series. I feel like maybe I'm just not getting it but in my opinion it just isn't living up to its potential. Here's hoping the final 3 episodes stick the landing.

The thing about Daredevil is that his entire catalog is more/less pretty fantastic. Miller, Bendis, Brubaker, Diggle, and Waid are all pretty fantastic (with the exception of Shadowland but it's still worth a read).

Preacher is fucking fantastic. And if you're looking for good Flash I'd recommend Waid's run and Johns run. I wish I had more experience with his earlier titles. Same with Green Lantern. I know the Johns Epic has more/less completely rewritten the Green Lanter Mythos. If you just post Johns Epic on google I think you'll find it. I also consider DCL: New Frontier by Cooke to be a fantastic period piece as well as Green Lantern origin. I'm certain many /co/mrades on here could recommend many many runs that I've never read. I'd also recommend JLA by Morrison as it gives attention to all of the Justice League members. Green Lantern in that series is a straight up monster.

Also if you enjoy Garth Ennis I'd also recommend Hitman as it is a fantastic series. If you're looking for Ennis' commentary on superheroes I'd recommend "The Boys". It may be considered needlessly edgy but it has had a profound effect on my writing and more importantly, my interpretation of super heroes.

My man. I know many many people on /co/ would yell at me for saying this, but look up Mark Millar and basically everything he's done (except Trouble....that was garbage). His serires Ultimates Vol. 1&2 laid the groundwork for the MCU without a doubt regardless of what anyone says. The characterizations for it's main players made them feel like humans in an extraordinary world. The followup series Ultimate Avengers was batshit insane and I loved it (I just bought the Omnibus). His creator owned stuff is just as good with tons of variety available.
>Kick Ass Saga - Volumes 1-3 tell a fun tale of a person trying to be a superhero in a regular world.
>Superior - Millar's interpretation of the Superman mythos and it has a LOT of heart to it.
>Nemesis - An absolute balls to the wall 4 issue mini that is more polarizing than most serires. Approach with an open mind.
>Starlight - Millar's interpretation of Flash Gordon and it's fucking great.
>Supercrooks - Ocean's 11 meets Superheros. Great.
>Jupiter's Circle and Jupiter's Legacy - Probably one of the strongest series Millar has put out recently. Both are great.
>Wanted - Probably his edgiest work but I adore this series. Supervillain have taken over the world and the son of the world's most dangerous assasin is indoctrinated into their grou.
>MPH - Millar's idea of what a speedster comic could be. It's good.
>Marvel 1985 - This is a weird one to describe, let's just say Marvel Heroes invade the real world and go from there.

I would have never have guessed Matt and Natasha were endgame but I'm glad Bendis thought so.

And that is the end for the Bendis epic. It's been a long time coming but now it is officially other. I'm pretty sure another anon will continue with Brubaker's and maybe Diggle's arcs (hopefully). For me, I plan on storytiming Ewing's Marvel Epic starting with Mighty Avengers and ending with US Avengres.

The first two arcs were great, the third was middle of the road thanks to weak Dillon art.

UAvNU started amazing - like you said, a true followup to his Ultimates - but Jesus Christ the finale was so bad. Hulk Pills bullshit, the terrible Spider reveal, a waste of the best new character in Gregory Stark... honestly it was so bad.

Still a fun run overall, but it was very clear in arcs 3 and 4 that he abandoned almost all his original plans. Either that or he had none.

OP, I just want to thank you for posting both Ultimate Spider-man and Dareveil by Bendis.

I grew up reading Ultimate Spider-man and felt like I grew up with Peter. Re-reading the entire run with an older perspective gave me a greater appreciation of the handle Bendis had with dialogue and character development.

Reading his Daredevil never gets old, I love how much of a time capsule it is to the early 00's the run reads as without feeling dated.

God, I know people shit on Marvel past, present and future, but I grew up reading from the Joey Quesada era. Morrison, Whedon, Carey back to back to back on the X-men corner. JMS on ASM, Jenkins on SSM, Bendis on USM. Millar on Ultimates, Bendis on early New Avengers and Daredevil. BKV on Runaways. Young Avengers actually having a shot at being Marvel's answer to Teen Titans....
