>Actually, only the Han Solo movie can really be considered "severe", and even then Ron Howard is respected enough by both the fans and Lucasfilm that I think a competant movie is still going to come out of it.
I don't know. The film was nearly done filming and having a different director with a different vision is going to mess up the tone unless he tries to copy the previous style.

>Rogue One had very minor re-shoots, as most big movies do, and Gareth has spoke about how it was just to streamline the final act a bit better.
Yeah, but was Rogue One's original story supposed to be different like a war story? But to be fair Rogue One turned out okay.

>IX still has well over two years to finalize a script, film and edit, so its too early to call it a blunder.
Reports said that Episode 9 is filming in January so there's not a lot of time left.

I could be wrong but I thought Episode 8 had to go through heavy rewrites just to fix TFA's problems? And there's the Boba Fett spin off film that got cancelled because of Fantastic Four's director.

Best is Maul/Umbara/The Wrong Jedi. Those are the trifecta of the perfect arcs.

Honourable mentions to Padawan Lost, Rookies/Kamino, Malevolence, Geonosis, Ryloth, and the Zillo Beast.

Worst is... Honestly I dont know, I love the show too much, I can't really hate an arc. Even Meebus Gascon gave us some fun moments, and a fucking Republic Commando spotlight.

Best: Maul's rise and fall

According to rumor, the original tone was all wrong (way too jokey and sarcastic), which is why the original directors were replaced. A change in tone is probably a good thing.
>>
>>94351108
The Sequel Era (for me, anyway) is so boring and uninteresting is that it's exactly like the OT. Why would I want to get invested in a story that's just a copy of another story? Especially when they're in the same universe.
I've already seen underdog Rebels in X-Wings take down Star Destroyers and Death Stars, I don't need to see it again.

I heard one of the early drafts of the script had the Galaxy in a sort of Feudal Warlords state, where the New Republic only had control of the core and some of the Mid Rim. The rest was under control of Imperial Governors and Barons that were all now trying to become the next Emperor, with a few crime syndicates thrown in there just to spice things up.
But thinking about it can only add to my misery, so, who knows, maybe we'll get some cool shit in Ep. VIII.

Maybe Filoni's new show is set in the Sequel Era, between VI and VII, and he can inject some good stories into it and salvage it. I mean, following in the wake of Wendig's Aftermath and needing to work up to where we started in EP VII leaves about 30 years to work with.
Who knows...maybe they'll cram a lot of EU shit into it. Delusions and dreams like this can't be healthy.
>>
Daily reminder that once Filoni has full control of Lucasfilm he will excecute all the waifus.
>>
>>94351417
At the end of the day I can't see VIII or Filoni fixing this because the problem is at its roots; the New Republic is gone before it was even properly introduced to the audience, the good guys are underdog Rebels fighting against the evil all controlling Empire. There's no way to fix that rn. The only way they could is to defeat the Empire AGAIN in IX, and introduce a New New Republic and maybe do a cool, Remnant vs New Republic conflict, or god forbid something new entirely?

Can he help save the ST?
>>
>>94351789
He sort of did.

He always said that Ahsoka met Vader, it "wouldn't be good."

He could have just avoided that happening, but he bit the bullet and made it happen. And he was right, assuming Ahsoka lived in a completely literal sense, the last bit of hope she had left must be crushed out of her.

Just because he was the only tolerable character in TFA (*when he was wearing the mask) doesn't mean he can stop this ship from sinking. It was set to fail in TFA, nothing can really change that.

The man with no taste.jpg
he's good. He was literally dying when he lost to Rey, so I don't count that as a bad thing against him. He is definitely one of the only reasons I am going to see VIII. He's already having doubts about killing han, that might just be enough to make him turn. That'd be interesting.
>>
>>94351831
Yes, depending on how they handle him. I actually think his storyline could be the only saving grace in the end.

Though I'm sure that even if he gets redeemed in a satisfying way, people will cry about it being a "rehash". Even though redemption is a theme of Star Wars.

>the New Republic is gone before it was even properly introduced to the audience

If they establish a New Republic that is devestated by the First Order's initial attack from Starkiller Base in TLJ, then they can probably salvage the ST. I feel like this is why J.J. didn't establish the Republic at all is so he could still replay ANH, but also allow future directors to cover the Republic. After all, only a few planets got destroyed. It'd be like if Washington D.C. was wiped out. The United States would still have a government, just a slightly more dysfunctional one.

Well, we might end up with a more functional one so maybe that's a bad example.

What Star Wars films do you rewatch most frequently, and why?

I want to rewatch a SW movie tonight, but can't make up my mind. Which of the SW films, including standalones, spinoff, holiday specials, and tv shows, do you find yourself returning to most often? And what about it makes you want to revisit them more than any other?
>>
>>94353114
ANH. It's comfy and doesn't really make me want to watch any others. And it's my favourite
>>
>>94353131
>doesn't really make me want to watch any others
I get that. It's the most self-contained of all of them. Not that the others don't feel satisfying on their own, it's just that it doesn't rely so much on leading into, out of, other stories.
>>
Does anyone have a link to Vader #4? the Win-O thread doesn't have it yet and when they do it will probably be on Usercloud which is broken right now.
>>

A New Hope is the most rewatchable because it's a satisfying standalone story.
>>
>>94353114
>jabba has a little kebab-kitchen behind him.

>>
>>94353114
ANH and ROTS for me. I feel like they're probably the strongest self-contained Star Wars movies, and the best to re-watch without getting tired.

TCW is also good for re-watching because there's just so much content that there is ALWAYS an arc to fit your mood.

Although when I was much younger, I also revisited AotC and ESB a lot. I guess I was in my "I love the big battles and grim lightsaber defeats" phase
>>
>>94353253
> I also revisited AotC and ESB a lot
Middle chapter of a trilogy always feels the comfiest for me. If I'm in a cozy mood they're the ones I watch. The story doesn't have to begin or conclude. It just feels like lazy sundays hanging around on the Falcon or wherever, talkin' snark and falling in love, and it feels like it can go on forever.
>>
>>94353114
TPM, AotC, RotS and TESB

The novelty of ANH has worn off for me and RotJ gets a little tedious even during and after Tatooine, even with the better parts of Endor. The wisened, matured Luke hits the spot just right, though.

The Shield Was Still Up.
We know that Palpatine has been passing funding to the Rebel Alliance to draw out disloyal planets and senators for years now. We know Geonosis, and the whole clone wars, were orchestrated false flags with crisis actors and narrative spin-control disinfo agents. So when you see these quote-unquote-Rebels making their so-called "attack run" on a planet when the frickin shield was still up, plainly for all to see, and you don't question the narrative, then you're as good as braindead.

How TFA should have ended: Rey having a sudden manifestation of force powers by pulling the saber, her combating an injured Ren, her getting a lucky strike on Ren due his overconfidence, then him force-blasting her into a fuckin tree, her getting knocked the fuck out. Then the planet breaks apart creating the rift between the two.

This shows she can be A. Special in regards to force sensitivity and B. She's still vulnerable and prone to getting her shit kicked in by someone who's been training most of his life to BE.A.WARRIOR.

Why doesn't anyone bring up the Yoda's Secret War arc of the main Star Wars comic? It was pretty remarkable and expanded the lore of the Force in interesting ways.

As far as I know, there have been two major storylines in the new canon where Yoda has been the protagonist and they were both kino.

Oh fuck off. Daisey Ridley has 10x the charisma of Felicity Jones.

I can barely remember a time Felicity Jones spoke. You're parroting this MARY SUE meme after having seen the movie once and reading a bunch of people online shit on her.

Rey fucking carried that movie and was filled with personality. The fact that she's really good at everything in no way takes away from that. And the complaint is a stupid one in the first place considering she makes multiple mistakes and literally tries to abandon everyone out of fear.

Talking about Rey on the internet is fucking exhausting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sarFZJl3h0

Watch this scene again. Tell me with a straight face Diego Luna and Felicity Jones ever showed this much charisma and emotion even once in the entirety of Rogue One.

>Adamantly claiming to Finn she can fly
>Once she's in the cockpit she's unsure of herself and repeating "I can do this I can do this"
>Starts out ramming into things and can't quite control the ship
>Wide eyed and shocked once they finally it stable "Woah..."
>Starts taking hits but yells at Finn blaming him for not firing back
>(We need cover) We're about to get some...I hope. Whispering the last part and still quite unsure of all of this
>Still ramming the Falcon into the sand and taking hits at this point, clearly not a smooth and talented pilot

Throughout the whole thing she was acting with facial expressions as well. Something Felicity seemed incapable of doing. Compare this scene with escaping Jedha or the rough landing on the next planet.

It's fucking hilarious because Jyn is more of a Mary Sue than Rey EVER was. Jyn has no character and no REAL motivation but everything just works out for her effortlessly. Everyone else around her suffers but Jyn never had to break a sweat or change her facial expression for that matter.
>>

You're not a very good shitposter. A lot more entertaining than some of the other idiots, I'll give ya that.

I feel like the only reason we're still arguing about Rey vs Kylo is because we literally don't know all the details. You can say that Kylo trained his whole life to be a warrior whereas others can rebut that he just killed his father and was starting to regret it, got shot and cut across the shoulder while Rey was relatively fresh and skilled in melee combat even if untrained in the lightsaber, but in the end no one knows the whole picture. JJ's fault, really, especially given there's never any prior implication of her having at least passively used the Force like there was for Luke, Anakin and Ezra. Her manifestation built throughout the film until she opened herself up to it and took advantage of the "feeling" it gives, like a sustained adrenaline rush. Her reverse interrogating Kylo was simply on account of him having already been using the Force on her, so she could feel it then and decidedly throw it back at him.

You know all of this could've been avoided if they stuck with one of the stories with them finding Luke instead. Rey and Finn could've lost and be close to getting killed until Luke jumps in and comes to the rescue. The way they wrote it was just lazy. It was bad enough that Chewie shot Ren to begin with.

>inb4 but Ren just killed his father and was emotionally broken!

His character was just inconsistent. Someone who can stop a blaster and slaughter plenty of innocent should have no problem killing his own father, and sensing a blaster shot while moving four inches to the side.

>It's fucking hilarious because Jyn is more of a Mary Sue than Rey EVER was.

you do know their also calling them Mary Sue because The Politicization of Everything, it was mostly from the manosphere and Return Of Kings not the fans

>Everyone else around her suffers but Jyn never had to break a sweat or change her facial expression for that matter.

so her fathers death in front of her was nothing then, or her slowly believing in the rebels and them being too scared to fight

>You know all of this could've been avoided if they stuck with one of the stories with them finding Luke instead. Rey and Finn could've lost and be close to getting killed until Luke jumps in and comes to the rescue.

Much as I'd have liked to see Luke a bit more, I can admit that this would have been more than a bit of a copout. It's too easy and does little to contribute to the question of "who is Luke Skywalker". Though it would have -fantastically- mirrored Han's saving Luke at the end of ANH.

The transition from finding Luke to Starkiller Base to finding Luke again was not done well, is all.

>His character was just inconsistent. Someone who can stop a blaster and slaughter plenty of innocent should have no problem killing his own father, and sensing a blaster shot while moving four inches to the side.

Technicalities, desu. Unless they were literally the WORST person in your life with no redeemable qualities whatsoever - and even then, they're still your family, so there's going to be that "what if they were better" at the back of your mind - you're going to be emotionally crippled in the event you do kill them. Family runs deeper than most anything else we may value, which is at the core of this saga.

Between this arc and the final (fully animated) arc of The Clone Wars, I actually wonder if a Yoda spin-off movie could work. Both of those arcs made him into a legitimately flawed, learning character, proving he works as a protagonist.

>Both of those arcs made him into a legitimately flawed, learning character, proving he works as a protagonist.

More than that, it proves he works as a person. Before all this, everyone just saw Yoda as the master of masters, nearly infallible in all ways of the Force, in little need of something as trivial as a lightsaber (some still do for some reason). But if any character has gotten a comprehensive bit of development with all this Prequel content, it's definitely been Yoda. It's turned him from just -the- Jedi Master into a person who also happens to be -the- Jedi Master.

They do want to get involved, and try to do so. Specifically Ezra. But it's a mandalorian single-combat tradition, so jumping in would completely invalidate what they're trying to do.

>DOESNT KILL THE BAD GUY BECAUSE SHELL BE JUST LIKE HIM!

But what if I agree that some of the characters actually are sexy but just don't think it's necessary to talk about how sexy they are constantly? For fucks sakes today we got the comic that showed how Darth Vader got his lightsaber and people are just talking about how much they want to fuck characters X, Y, and Z.

OT fanboy. You still like your childhood fairytale? Did Alec Guiness tell you to stop watching SW 100 times?
>>
>>94357827
Beyond the fact that there is plenty of prequel era media being created, Rogue One actually has quite a lot of prequel influence too.

Of course it's leaning much closer to the OT, what with it set literally hours before ANH. But there are prequel characters, locations and designs present in the movie that simply cant be ignored.

The notion that Disney is pretending the Prequels never happened is fucking absurd. Lucasfilm has been perfectly fine and free to enjoy exploring all corners of Star Wars.
>>

TFA did that because JJ is a fucking moron OTfag and he was encouraged by Pegg to keep things as close to the OT as possible.

The rest of the ST doesn't necesarrilly have to be like that. In fact, a lot of the leaks suggest that there will be some very original and new designs and locations coming up.
>>
>>94357905
TFA outright mentioned a clone army and the Sith by name(something none of the OT films did outside of deleted scenes) and had Hondo's flag at Maz's castle. The lightsaber duel was closer to the PT style than OT.

Rogue One had Bail Organa, a clone turbo tank, Saw Gererra, and kyber crystals in it

Moving the goalposts. If a book is set in the OT but features prequel characters going to prequel areas and remembering prequel events with prequel technology and prequel factions then it's just as much a prequel era book as it is an original era book. You never said it had to exclusively be in the prequel era, you just said that they're ignoring the prequels which I proved they aren't. Plus if you want prequel era content go watch the show which just aired for 6 years straight that has over 100 hours of prequel content that Disney proudly accepted into their canon.

Snoke was going to be a snake/lizard sith lord

Saw was always going to be a part of the 'live adaptation of the theft of the Death Star plans' story. John Knoll thought of the idea of adapting this story to the Star Wars Underworld show back in the early 2000s and George Lucas created the character Saw Gerrera as the rebel who would steal the plans in this episode arc. He then added a backstory for Saw Gerrera in The Clone Wars. Underworld ended up never being made but Kennedy and Knoll got Gareth Edwards to direct a movie adaptation of this story. The characters changed a lot but Saw Gerrera was still an important piece to the story until the very end.

>>
>>94359492
What were they for?
>>
>>94359542
To streamline the last act.

You can actually see a bit of evidence of it in the early trailer. Basically, Jyn was going to have tu run between two buildings to grab the plans, and then transmit the codes.

The pacing was weird, so they scrapped it and decided to tailor the "heist" as being set entirely in one main building.

This all comes from Gareth Edwards in the Blu Ray BTS iirc

Wasn't Vader added in the reshoots too?
>>
>>94359542
To reshoot scenes in the movie I guess. This happens in literally, LITERALLY, and I actually mean the real Oxford dictionary meaning of the word LITERALLY, every single movie ever made. Freaking out over reshoots in a movie is like freaking out over outtakes for a musical album. They just happen in every single production and are planned ahead of time before shooting ever begins. Sure at times they could show that the film had trouble being made but Rogue One was made in a year, which is very good for a film and not enough time for actual problems requiring extensive reshoots to happen.

What do reshoot fags actually think happened? Do they think in the middle of filming Gareth realized that he had made Rey the main character of the movie, realized that it made no sense in the timeline, then reshot 60% of the movie to rename 'Rey' 'Jyn' or something? Like I don't even get how a movie can have such a horrible fuck up that it needs to have significant portions reshot but still release after a year of production. That's just not possible given how long it takes to produce toys/commercials/etc.

No, reshoots and pick-ups don't take place that often actually. In Hollywood they are more common and most movies with more than just a shoestring budget plan for pick-ups, but to say literally every film has reshoots is just plain wrong.

Not that the Rogue One reshoots were especially out of the ordinary. Just saying, don't overstate the prevalence of reshoots in the industry.

You need to fuck off. For the past half a year I have heard people freak the absolute fuck out over a part of film production that is completely normal and suggest that something major (that literally couldn't have happened given the time frame) must of happened behind the scenes. This is like being a fan of Grand Theft Auto and for an entire year straight never hearing the end of retards going crazy assuming GTAV had to be completely remade in the middle of development because they cut a few costumes or something. It's absolutely fucking stupid and annoying to hear someone go insane over the simplest of things just because they have 0 clue about how filmmaking works.

http://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/star-wars-dave-filoni-talks-rebels-well-rogue-one-connections/

>I think you know season one dealt with such an early point in this boy, Ezra Bridger's, life. He's coming into an understanding that there's a bigger world, and the Force. It's about his home, making a family and kind of accepting a new family. When we got into season two, you're entering more of the stage where now he's a lot more self-aware and he's aware that he has friends supporting him. All of that confidence and support can also lead to more difficult decisions. He's definitely moving into the phase where he's confronting the "real world" where you find good, but you also find its opposite in evil. It was a matter of making him face some of the challenges in life that, up until that point, the adults had been dealing with more for him. He's just growing into that role.

>I always look at the evolution of these characters and their journey kind of like a child growing up. There's that moment that you realize your parents are people. They're not these magical beings that have always been, and that they were young once and that they had flaws. I try to put perspectives like that on these characters. We thought it would be interesting for Ezra to face some of the bigger consequential characters like Vader; to become aware of them and aware that as he's got these abilities, and that's wonderful, that there's also great responsibility that's going to come with them if he's going to defend the freedom of people and the justice of people with them.
>>
>>94360039
>What's clever about the show is the way that the complexity of the continuing storyline and the characters has grown at the same time that the universe is expanding around them.

>I appreciate that. I think that's kind of the way I look at it, which is, again, in childhood years, your world seems kind of simpler. I always felt that since Ezra was so young when we started, that we could take that idea that he sees his world as very simple. The villains in the beginning were very simple and almost comical when you think of Aresko and Grint, the Imperial officers who are almost tripping over each other at times. They're the very epitome of kind of a Keystone Cops-style gaff at times. His world was that simple and there weren't these big threats. Then the Inquisitor came and you started to get a shade of that threat and that build-up. Even the Inquisitor, at the end of the first season, speaks to Kanan about things that are far worse than him dying there. He's aware of Vader, the Inquisitor. He's aware of the greater evils out there, because that's his world. I wanted it to grow in that way. I also think kids can kind of identify with that as they're growing up with this show year-to-year. They need more. Their own lives are getting more complex.

>Why not?
Because that's not a very specific thing. You can't point out a vague thing that happens to be in several shots and say" these are all obviously referencing ESB"

It needs to be more concrete. Like, the framing and lighting of the shot. If the Rebels/RO/ROTS shots were framed like the ESB shot, I could see more of an argument. But they're not. In the ESB shot Vader is little more than a silhouette and is at an angle

>It's conspicuous and obviously intentional

Obviously I haven't had time to read this with the closeness something this long deserves, but it seems to be more of a list of all the things that Sabine does, rather than any real argument about her character traits, or stuff that specifically points her out as a mary-sue.

For instance, painting chopper, or when the clones let her use their database, aren't exactly, or even particularly mary-sue markers.

I'm sure if you put together a list of all the things Ezra, or Kanan do, and add emotive commentary like 'kicks ass like a badass' it might seem OP, too.

Some even count against such a case, like getting ezra a birthday present or moaning to hera about fulcrum's secrecy

Some stuff is factually wrong, too. (eg, for the trials of the darksaber entry 'whupping Ezra, Fenn Rau, AND Kanan in a fight with the Darksaber' - when in fact she gets beaten by Ezra, beaten by Kanan, doesn't fight Fenn at all, and then at the end Kanan very clearly lets her win in order to work out her issues).

I dunno. It's an impressive cataloguing endeavour. But I can't say I'm convinced. I'll give it a closer look tomorrow, I think.

Adaptations of canon media should not themselves be treated as canon over the source, but they do contain canon material.

So whatever information in the book did pass by the LSG as being correct, but due to the nature of that information not being in the movie, it is subject to be ignored.

To put it in raw terms, they're abiding by canon, but can't themselves be considered canon, simply because the source exists.

A very divided opinion about Scarif portrayed in RO.
Some people think the shield was generated by the gate that part of the movie focuses on. They also think that the ISDs that destroy it make the shield go down for good, even though we can see the ships (and the Hammerhead attached to one) exploding and moving across the shield itself, not punching through.
Some people use visual clues after that to say that the shield is still up, even after the Death Star laser overpowers it in the spot it hits and punches through. This works better with what we know about shields: they can be punched through with enough force, but ultimately still exist if the generator isn't destroyed, implying the generator is on Scarif's surface somewhere.
Now, for the plot point of "beam the plans up to the rebels" to happen, a hole had to be punched through the shield, which you could imply the sheer weight of two ISDs crashing into a shield would punch a hole through, just enough for a transmission of the size of the plans to go through.
Now Inferno Squad's novel, in a monologue by a character that was physically on the Death Star while it was at Scarif, says that the shield was still up when the Death Star punched through and obliterated the citadel.

I did it all from memory so pardon any minor inaccuracies. However I made clear that it's not the fact that she does these things, but that she does them all the time and makes herself the center of attention while doing them and is immediately liked by everyone for doing so. If she were just a badass, it wouldn't be an issue, except that she's also the unassailable darling of the crew. If she were just an extremely endearing unique artistic individual that wouldn't be an issue, except she excels and surpasses at every ability everybody else does and does the lion's share of the work. This is what makes her a Mary Sue, not the fact that she's a cool kickass hero.

>>94362553
They barely talk about it because they re-use stuff from it, and Kathleen mentioned that they're not throwing away those scripts. (wink, wink. Star Wars will probably get a tv show eventually, and no doubt some of those scripts will get used eventually.)

All we know for sure is that there was 50-ish approved scripts, but it was looking to be a very expensive project, and Lucas was busy pumping millions into TCW, which he had planned and developed long before thinking about doing live-action tv.

We also know that it would have centered around the seedier parts of the Galaxy, like Coruscants underworld, and Tatooine. Saw was going to be a prominent and extreme Rebel. Again, that got repurposed into Canon eventually.
>>
>>94362331

>>
>>94362376
There was once a very long multiple-thread-long debate about the Shield Gate.

The movie would have you believe the shield was destroyed once the Star Destroyer crashed into it.

However one anon was absolutely CONVINCED that the shield wasn't destroyed, only weakened so that transmissions could pass, but not actual ships. He showed screencaps where the "blue hue" is still sorrounding the planet, but everyone shrugged it off as just being the planets atmosphere, or even a continuity error.

But it turns out shiedlgateanon seems to be right, that the shield was still up in some capacity that stopped ships from escaping, even after the Star Destroyers crashed into it.

>>94362593
I suppose the fact that the list is mostly a catalogue of the actions she undertakes makes it seem that way. Most episodes' entries just account for what she achieves in fight scenes etc. with little commentary. I also don't think her contribution makes her the center of attention much more than, say, Hera, who contributes an awful lot to the action. And I'd be stunned it it were even close to parity with either of the jedi.

>I did it all from memory
That does account for a lot. I'd suggest going abck and watching some of it. Ezra is frequently exasperated with Sabine. Kanan and Hera both feel that have to keep her under control at times. Especially on missions. People do react negatively to her.
Absolutely go back and watch Trials of the Darksaber and Legacy of Mandalore. I feel like you're really misremembering those. Trials, especially, directly adresses her aloof, arrogant tendencies, what Kanan calls her being 'blocked' and Hera calls her 'hurt'.

>no George/Dave ST movie

It breaks my heart to see Filoni's concept art for TFA. It was based on Lucas's idea that Han/the Falcon would be introduced on Felucia in a really creepy part of the film, and you would see them capture Rathtars in a natural habitat.

But of course, JJ ignored that, and opted for Han to bump into Rey/Falcon against astronomical odds, and then run around from Rathtars like a Scooby Doo scene.
>>
>>94362698
So many elements of the acquisition/transition still baffle me.

Somebody fucked George hard because TFA was just gross. I would have thought George would have enough support from Karhleen or whoever.

I don't, CAN'T consider TFA canon. Everything else has been GL faithful, but the BEDROCK of the sequel era is knock off trash.

I'll also add that it was mainly set on Coruscant Level 1313, would have shown how Han Solo got the Falcon, would have shown Boba Fett's early days as a bounty hunter and tied in to Star Wars 1313, and it would also have had an arc about how Palpatine turned to the dark side because the love of his life betrayed him. This show was thought of during the production of Attack of the Clones and George has implied that he's hinted at concepts from the show in Episode 3 and TCW.

It's obviously been kept out of the public, but from what we can gather;

>Lucas is set to help set up new movies
>He doesn't want to direct, and asks Speilberg to find someone else
>Lucas/Lucasfilm come up with various ideas for the ST
>Idea is that it would be similar to the OT in some aspects, but also an original step forward
>Meanwhile Speilberg chooses JJ Abrams.
>Abrams refuses for unknown reasons.
>Scripts and Concept art for TFA start to get made based on Lucas's ideas

This is where it gets muddly as fuck.

>Somewhere around this point, Lucas starts having creative disagreements with... Kathleen? We don't know.
>JJ changes his mind and agrees to direct
>Except this time, he is allowed to bring his own development crew.
>Lucas is out, Bad Robot is in.
>Lucasfilm agrees that they will follow Lucas's story plans for the ST, and the 2018/2020 spin-off's

Then the JJ fuckery begins.

>JJ takes a look at the TFA story
>Decides to scrap anything "too exotic", opting to keep only the most familiar OT-related ideas
>Decides the First Order's superweapon should be able to destroy multiple planets through hyperspace through the power of the sun
>Decides to scrap a lot of the concepts of the Medeival theme because it's not OT enough.
>Opts for the Knights of Ren to kill all the Jedi off-screen
>Genderswaps Phasma and Raceswaps Finn for diversity
>Begins pushing a huge anti-PT/"Muh practical effects! Star Wars is back!" marketing campaign
>Makes changes to the movie, including the opening crawl, without even notifying Lucasfilm
>Kathleen is likely letting him do this because she is pissing herself about the movie flopping
>TFA is hugely popular as expected
>But JJ made it a point to remove as much connection to the prequels as possible
>The core fans are left unsatisfied because of the lack of original content.
>Lucas infamously calls Disney "slavers", seemingly regretting leaving, and does not praise TFA at all.
>Lucas has however, praised Rebels/Rogue One
>>
>>94362876
Well keep in mind, too, that she was a minor character. Going through your list I was struck by her only having lead five episodes, up until Trials, which was sort of her 'graduation' to deuteragonist, or quasi-deuteragonist, or whatever she appears to be now in the season 4 promotional material. I wonder how that stacks up against, say, Zeb? Even Chopper has got to take the lead in a few episodes, hasn't he?
Can't the same be said of the two of them? Minor characters don't get that much focus. She's only started to get one, complete with consequences and struggle, now that they've brought her to the fore.

Her aloofness, her unwillingness to appear vulnerable or in any way challenged, her rush to frantically overcompensate, these are her very character flaws. It's a cover for a deep guilt and insecurity. We absolutely do see them exasperate and frustrate the other characters. I know I've met people like that in my life.

So all in all, Lucasfilm is trying to stay faifthful to Lucas, and Lucas loves what Gareth and Filoni have done.

But they got fucked with TFA because Kathleen was desperate for JJ to make a safe and secure first movie, ultimately producing something Lucas didn't like, that was borderline disrespectful to his legacy.

We havent heard TOO much.

Filoni just said that Lucas helped out a tiny bit in Season 1, as well as planning Ahsoka's story in Rebels. (She was Lucas's baby as much as Filoni's)

Then at Celebration this year, Lucas said that he considered Dave his true Padawan, one of his sons, and called him "Luke".

Needless to say, Lucas continues Filoni as the true successor to his legacy.
>>
>>94363034
If I remember correctly, Lucas said he tried to help them and give advice but they basically told him to fuck off so he backed off and let them do what they wanted. Sounded like he only backed off because he didn't want to fall out with everyone since the public would attack Lucas for interfering.

Why didn't Anakin just use a condom?

>>
>>94363215
I'm thinking he was getting ahead of himself with his more "creative ideas", and Kathleen probably wanted them to start slow with the ST. Which JJ of course was more than happy to do because all he cared about doing was recreating ANH.

So he backed off with the understanding that they would still be following his story ideas until 2020. (Which they are, TFA withstanding apparently)

Imagine if the first Star Wars movie since ROTS opened with lore about the origins of the Force. I know some people would love it, maybe even a lot of us here.

But there would be tons of people screaming about Star Wars being ruined for whatever asinine reason.

They probably wanted to ease people in with something that was so similar to the OT, that you couldn't possibly claim to hate it because its basically the same story as one you already like.
>>
>>94363280
>self-destructive character flaws that leads to injury, introspection, growth, and admonishment by others.

So same as Sabine, then? A girl who's so eager to appear totally compotent and invincible that, when faced with a ttue challenge, she tries to cheat, surprise-attacks her unarmed teacher in the middle of a conversation out of frustration at appearing humiliated, gets yelled at and dressed down, then storms off in a petulent rage, forcing her to reflect on her flaws as a person.

I'm not saying the first couple of seasons weren't undercooked for her. The ketsu episode, for instance, went nowhere. But all the clues and crumbs for her character throughout get serious payoff.

In what way does she throw it back in his face?

>A dressing-down that is immediately forgotten and goes back to status quo without character growth isn't worth jack shit.
Again, I'd really recommend rewatching the episode. It's all about a big change for Sabine, learning to confront her sense of herself, and embrace her responsibilities, rather than acting invulnerable all the time.
I'd also recommend rewatching it if only beacuse it's a really good example of writing on the show, with these themes working their way into the dialogue in subtle and allegorical ways. It's a very well put-together episode.

I get that she's a powerful character. All the crew are pretty powerful in one way or another, and she's from a warrior culture, trained by the imperials, etc. I get that. Honestly that bugs me about the show - the high standard. Padawan-Kanan with incomplete training and amateur Ezra do stuff that would impress Mace Windu in his prime. But I really do think that this idea that
a)everybody likes her and responds consistantly well to her, and
b)she isn't faced with challenges that cause her to struggle, introspect, and grow
is a misapprehension. Perhaps it's fresh in my mind as I just happened to watch the last few episodes of S3 this week. But it just doesn't bear out against what's actually in the show.

She then kicks Kanan's ass while delivering an epic badass POOR ME MY DARK AND TROUBLED PAST ;(((((((( speech, and then everybody around literally kneels before her as a queen. You can't subtract one Mary Sue point then add ten more and call it character development. It's easier to cross out the traits on a tvtropes mary sue list she DOESN'T have. It's too much man, I like her and all, but face it, she's a bigger Mary Sue than maRey sue herself.

>>
>>94363798
>Are you saying that Anakin isn't really Luke's father?

>>
>>94363932

>>
>>94363870
It was certainly for more than a minute. They appeared to have been training at the camp for at least two days. And I can't imagine how anyone would imagine that Ezra's words weren't intentional, seeing as he went out there to give her perspective to persuade her to come back. It's also very obvious that Kanan lets her win. He states from the start that she'll never be his equal in swordfighting, as he can use the force, and that the training is more about her being willing to grow and be vulnerable. he goes from fending her off with one hand and his lightsaber turned off, just taunting and provoking her, to clearly phoning it in on his part once she start to open up, break down, and show her insecurity.
I also can't quite fathom why a monologue about how badly she's fucked up in life and how even her family hate her can be considered mary-sue badassery.
Also, the image of them kneeling at the end - it really is a symbolic gesture. She doesn't actually become their queen. And this image alone seems to be so literally interpreted.
