I heard one of the early drafts of the script had the Galaxy in a sort of Feudal Warlords state, where the New Republic only had control of the core and some of the Mid Rim. The rest was under control of Imperial Governors and Barons that were all now trying to become the next Emperor, with a few crime syndicates thrown in there just to spice things up.
But thinking about it can only add to my misery, so, who knows, maybe we'll get some cool shit in Ep. VIII.

Maybe Filoni's new show is set in the Sequel Era, between VI and VII, and he can inject some good stories into it and salvage it. I mean, following in the wake of Wendig's Aftermath and needing to work up to where we started in EP VII leaves about 30 years to work with.
Who knows...maybe they'll cram a lot of EU shit into it. Delusions and dreams like this can't be healthy.

If they establish a New Republic that is devestated by the First Order's initial attack from Starkiller Base in TLJ, then they can probably salvage the ST. I feel like this is why J.J. didn't establish the Republic at all is so he could still replay ANH, but also allow future directors to cover the Republic. After all, only a few planets got destroyed. It'd be like if Washington D.C. was wiped out. The United States would still have a government, just a slightly more dysfunctional one.

Well, we might end up with a more functional one so maybe that's a bad example.

I want to rewatch a SW movie tonight, but can't make up my mind. Which of the SW films, including standalones, spinoff, holiday specials, and tv shows, do you find yourself returning to most often? And what about it makes you want to revisit them more than any other?

Why doesn't anyone bring up the Yoda's Secret War arc of the main Star Wars comic? It was pretty remarkable and expanded the lore of the Force in interesting ways.

As far as I know, there have been two major storylines in the new canon where Yoda has been the protagonist and they were both kino.

I feel like the only reason we're still arguing about Rey vs Kylo is because we literally don't know all the details. You can say that Kylo trained his whole life to be a warrior whereas others can rebut that he just killed his father and was starting to regret it, got shot and cut across the shoulder while Rey was relatively fresh and skilled in melee combat even if untrained in the lightsaber, but in the end no one knows the whole picture. JJ's fault, really, especially given there's never any prior implication of her having at least passively used the Force like there was for Luke, Anakin and Ezra. Her manifestation built throughout the film until she opened herself up to it and took advantage of the "feeling" it gives, like a sustained adrenaline rush. Her reverse interrogating Kylo was simply on account of him having already been using the Force on her, so she could feel it then and decidedly throw it back at him.

Much as I'd have liked to see Luke a bit more, I can admit that this would have been more than a bit of a copout. It's too easy and does little to contribute to the question of "who is Luke Skywalker". Though it would have -fantastically- mirrored Han's saving Luke at the end of ANH.

The transition from finding Luke to Starkiller Base to finding Luke again was not done well, is all.

Beyond the fact that there is plenty of prequel era media being created, Rogue One actually has quite a lot of prequel influence too.

If a book is set in the OT but features prequel characters going to prequel areas and remembering prequel events with prequel technology and prequel factions then it's just as much a prequel era book as it is an original era book. You never said it had to exclusively be in the prequel era, you just said that they're ignoring the prequels which I proved they aren't. Plus if you want prequel era content go watch the show which just aired for 6 years straight that has over 100 hours of prequel content that Disney proudly accepted into their canon.
