Hi, friends. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm the anon from a few weeks ago who had a pipe dream of making his own printed collection of all the Insider and otherwise uncollected short stories. After finally getting my hands on Blade Squadron: Jakku today, I finally have the whole thing transcribed and organized. I just need to decide some stylistic things and typeset it, then I'll be good to go. I'd love some input though:

>What order should the short stories be in?
Strictly chronological won't work, because I want all 4 Blade Squadrons together. Release order is out for the same reason.

Also, I'm including the 3 stories from Rise of the Empire, because I didn't buy it to avoid double dipping. Putting them together obviously makes sense, but that might make the pacing of the book a little wonky, since they're so much longer than the rest (other than The Perfect Weapon).

Any ideas on order?

Currently the title page for each story looks approximately like pic related, including the author, original publication and date, and info about any tie-in books. I'm not including the artists because I'm not including art (though I may list the artists on their own page at the back of the volume just to be nice?).

Star Wars: The Short Stories - Volume 1 isn't very sexy, but it's appropriate.
Star Wars: Tales feels the same, and it's also a previously used title that I could see popping up again.

Which is why it works. There's back and forth. Mizel worships Ezra, until Ezra makes a mistake and he realizes Ezra is only human and teases him in a really appealing way.

The big problem with Rebels is Ezra doesn't have someone he can interact with as an equal. They try to cram zeb into that role but it doesn't work since the guy is like triple his age. Sabine spent Ezras whole development being cool and unattainable like she was his dreamgirl so it just emphasized the difference between them.

There's never a series regular Ezra can do that with because anyone who's also in their teens is a one off. Zaire Leonis was cool but they immediately forgot about him once that season ended and he was barely in it. Iron Squadron amounted to nothing. Leia obviously couldn't be around forever.

One of the big reasons the OT cast WORKED is because nobody ever tried pulling rank on anyone else and they all had good chemistry because they were more or less equal. Han was a bit older but Luke was always able to call him on his shit.

I'd say it's a similar problem to what Arrow had with Kate Cassidy and Laurel Lance. Yes, this character has been around for a bunch of time and their whole thing is grandfathered in, but it's so off course and so weirdly done you're better off just breaking it off and introducing a whole new character.

If the Ezra/Sabine relationship had any shot, it would have been during season 3 when he came into his own. Now they've both been on that level so long it'd come out of nowhere.

Ezra's hypothetical new love interest doesn't even need to be that different. Just make her a random other rebel soldier who also fights with ranged weapons and has a hobby. It really doesn't matter. You just need to swap out all that emotional baggage.

Actually from what they showed at one of the recent cons when Ezra meets Sabine's dad he says he's with Sabine and takes a pause to say "not with her with her". So maybe they're gonna set it up in season 4 that Kanan and Hera finally seal the deal and move Ezra and Sabine into the same kind of relationship those two had. I kinda see Ezra as the Hera and Sabine as the Kanan though.

It was a celebration of Lucas' work on the franchise rather than of SW's existence as a whole. The ST and the anthologies aren't Lucas' work. Filoni was there as his close collaborator and showrunner of TCW. Why should they wheel out Boyega and Jones to exchange niceties with Lucas if he had nothing to do with the movies they starred in? Or should they have invited Zahn and Casey Hudson on the stage as well?

That's all well and good, but you can't just point to a book and pretend like it's part of the movie.

We knew who Maul was. He was the Sith Apprentice.

With the context of the OT, we know the Sith are the big bad guys, and Sheev and Vader were the Sith in the OT.

Then in TPM, Yoda briefly explains some Sith lore, that there are always two, a Master and an Apprentice.

With this context, we know that ;

>Maul is his apprentice, 'ala Vader
>There are no more, so at some point Maul will die or be replaced
>But with Anakin just a kid, Maul is "safe" and thus a huge threat to the Jedi characters in the cast

With Snoke, we have no prior history, or franchise context. He's just a big guy who "turned Ren". We don't know where he came from, what he wants, what his belief system is (he isn't Sith, so what is different about him/The Knights and the Sith?)

Yes, I am well aware they will develop him in the future, but as of just TFA, he may aswell have been like Sheev in ANH, and not shown at all. Keep him completely in the shadows if you're not going to bother tell us a damn thing about him.

Palpatine in ANH was basically a Nixon type figure who declared himself Emperor for life after becoming President.
In ESTB/ROTJ, Lucas added the further dimension of him being a master of the Dark Side equivalent to Yoda being a Jedi Master.

It's only during the writing of TPM that Palpatine being a Sith Lord finalized.

What is the dumbest Star Wars fan theory you have ever heard?

The problem with Snoke as opposed to the Emperor in ANH is that we innately understood what an Empire was and what a Rebellion was before going in and thus when exposed to it immediately got what was going on. Tell me, where in TFA was it explained what the First Order and Resistance were and how the hell they got their hands on their equipment and why they pursue these actions other than a deliberate and direct visual aping of ANH? Even after all the supplementary material so far it's STILL difficult to comprehend precisely what these groups are about.

SW is so big that there's no uniting the fandom anymore. When you bring up a Halo community, for example, I'll have a pretty clear idea of what the people in it will like and dislike. Not so much with SW. Every community is skewed in a certain specific direction regarding tastes in SW beyond just the form of the media the community consumes - you can even see it on a micro level here when you compare us to /tg/'s /swg/. Which is fine, but god forbid you dare venture into the friction line. That's where the positive attachment starts feeding hatred and disdain.

Maul, Vos, Anakin and Sheev have all been shown to have yellow eyes, as have the Inquisitors.

Yellow eyes is usually an indication that you're overdosing on the dark side to the point where it's completely overwhelmed you.

Redemption through death is a fucking tired ass trope that Star Wars itself ran into the fucking ground. Surviving, having to live with yourself and trying to become less of a shitty person makes for a much better story
Plus Disney is going to want to evergreen this shit, having Rey leading a Light side Force group and Kylo leading its opposite number opens up a fuckton of story possibilities for after the Sequel Trilogy wraps up

If he doesn't then the saga literally cannot continue after the sequel trilogy, since Lucasfilm keeps hammering the point that the saga is about the Skywalkers. If Ben dies, then the only one left will be Luke, because for some moronic idea they decided not to make the main character of the sequels a Skywalker.

I think they'll give Kylo the Ulic treatment. He'll join the good guys and help take down Snoke before leaving for a self-imposed exile. His true intentions will remain somewhat ambiguous, leaving the audience guessing whether he really seeks forgiveness and renounced the dark side completely. Then in X, the new heroes will seek him out to gain his help in fighting a new threat and his redemption arc will be resolved over that trilogy.

Rey is totally going to remain a hero, but there will be twists along the way. She has plenty of anger in her and poor self-control and with the emotional damage she sustained over the years, she makes for an even worse Jedi apprentice than Anakin ever was. She has all the makings of a natural darksider already. They'll definitely try pulling the "will she turn?" trick again.

That and for some reason on the first new map we got of the galaxy, they pointed out Rakata Prime. It would make sense if the FO used recovered Rakatan tech to build the gravity manipulator, what with the slight Star Forge inspirations and all

The so-called "Unbelievable" Death Star can blow up planets, but just a couple decades later FO (who were hiding in the unknown regions for years) can shoot star-powered beams through hyperspace and blow up an entire system at once.

Logical conclusion to me is that the Chiss, like the Umbaran's, have tech far superior to that of the Empire. They built the Starkiller superweapon. The First Order grew in strength, and with the assistance of Snoke, overthrew the Chiss, possibly killing them all with the superweapon.

I believe that this is going to be explained in future Thrawn novels, that will pit Thrawn against the First Order.

If it turns out that the First Order really did just pull Starkiller Base out of their asses in a few years with no assistance, then I will go back to grumbling about JJ ruining Star Wars.

Whatever explanation the story group or various authors or whatever make up for it is ultimately irrelevant and was bullshitted after the fact. The core movies introducing retarded ideas and then the EU (or I guess canon now) content creators trying to come up with logical explanations for them is a Star Wars tradition at this point.

Thirty anon, three decades. Most of the work that went into the Death Star was the theory, the question of whether or not it could be built. Once that was proven, it became a matter of scaling it up to create a strategic weapon of interstellar scope
I see your Chiss theory, but I'd point out they're infinitely more concerned with defending the Ascendancy than they are with projecting power across the galaxy. Something like Starkiller doesn't fit into that, even as a deterrent you'd have to announce its existence and demonstrate its power, both of which draw unnecessary attention and ire towards the Chiss.
Its far more likely the First Order either hyper focused its tech development (and the fact they have kyber crystals in their Star Destroyers batteries would bare that out) to construct the culmination of the Death Star. Alternatively, someone felt it was important to point out Rakata Prime on the galactic map, its entirely possible the Rakata existed in the new canon and the First Order dug up and reverse engineered their macro-construction technology for their own purposes
