And we're back!
Boys and girls, meet Archangel!
PREVIOUSLY ON X-MEN:
>>90350171
>>90426560
Shouldn't this have come before the last thread, given it seemingly takes place after this batch of issues?
Once again, here's the Mega:
https://mega.nz/#F!5kJFCBjJ!TG-NaDE3TdmkZ_uVOkD3eg
>>90484436
Yeah, timeline's a bit naff admittedly. They do take place at the exact same time more or less, but I forgot to check if they were any references to the events of these issues in New Mutants.
Caliban's mask is actually pretty cool.
Paco Lips!
Apoc's Stretch Armstrong powers never fail to crack me up.
>>90484687
I like Caliban, he's a sad little characters whose poor choices make sense
Another cool mask, all courtesy of Walt Simonson himself.
>Huitzilopochtli
Try saying that three times fast!
>>90484871
I'm sure Morrison can
Admittedly, casting Moe Howard as War IS a bold casting choice, but I think it'll work out just fine.
Join Apocalypse, get a free limited edition golden mount!
>Boink!
DRAMA
HIGH STAKES
BOINK
>>90484944
Scots can pronounce plenty of things most human tongues cannot.
Love the little subplot with Caliban at the bottom, it flows really well if you just skim throught the pages too.
Geez, just put on a sweater.
Oh god, Apoc's turning into Egghead!
>>90485134
Does anyone know the year that things flipped from "Mutants because of radiation" to "Mutants because of X Gene"? It has to be a 90s change
>>90484420
Hey. I spent all day yesterday waiting on this instead of doing something useful!
I feel mad at myself!
Now that is an entrance.
>>90484795
I'm still loving how much Scott has drilled tactics into the team in this run, such that he can just go full QB and call plays.
No, that's not true! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
>>90485237
Thanks...?
>>90485253
I honestly cannot remember.
>>90484834
>>90484871
Chocolatechips exploiting the existence of actual gods/Eternals to sow greater fear is something that is in no way incompatible with Marvel cosmology. It's great.
>Huitzilopochtli
The only tricky bit is the "Ochtli" bit at the end, because my Anglophone tongue hates that Ocht sound.
>>90485404
Aw man, sorry anon, I was pretty busy yesterday so I wasn't feeling up to it by the time I got some free time.
>>90485542
One of the things I loved in E is For Extinction from Secret Wars was seeing team tactics like Quentin Quire linking the whole team together and then having Dust scatter herself around the whole room so they could see everything
>>90485054
I don't think offering Jean power is going to at all tempting at this moment in time.
Warren's mask, on the other hand, is just silly. Oh well, they can't all be winners, I s'pose.
CALIBAN NO
Whoopsie daisy, once again gotta go walk the dog!
brb
>>90485253
It was around this time, a few times they mentioned the radiation kick starting the x-gene then never mention the radiation again.
>>90485833
>Whoopsie daisy, once again gotta go walk the dog!
>brb
No problem.
>>90484871
saying Huitzilopochtli isnt hard at all
its something like
weet see lo poch tlee
the h has no sound in Spanish
>>90485515
apocs here looks like he's pitching a tv ad sale
>>90484420
Angel should be transformed into a cyborg symbotie like blue beatle or technovore
It will fix his wing retraction problem
All they need now is someone to learn magic then its basically the teen titans
>>90485253
It was definately a thing by the time the cartoon hit.
>>90484871
Screw it, I'm just saying "Huitzil" like the robot
Alright, probably no more interruptions for tonight.
>>90486799
>Alright, probably no more interruptions for tonight.
Good
>Uh, Caliban, you know you can get up now, right?
Colors aside, it really does feel like Archangel's is one of the first truly "modern" designs out there.
>>90486963
Well the X-men line did invent the 90s aesthetic
did Claremont like Apocalypse and Archangel?
>>90486995
True, but I meant more like something post-90's. Aside from the colors, Archangel's design hasn't been changed all that much if at all in all these years.
>>90485793
Caliban is the only Apocalypse based heel turn besides Warren that at all worked.
Every other one was total shit, and they did it SO MANY TIMES.
>>90487051
Also, is that fucking Reagan? That's hilarious.
>>90487061
Yeah, it became a pretty overused shitty gimmick with time, and it's a shame, because I'd rather they go with the UXF route and create their own characters rather than force pre-existing characters into the Horsemen role.
Yo, speaking of blackouts, does anyone want to read the Daredevil tie-in issue after this?
Jean's come a long way since the days her training exercises were about lifting a fucking sheet of paper with her TK powers.
I actually don't have the Power Pack issue, unfortunately.
Sure got over Maddie quick, eh?
Cap's is another issue I don't have.
>>90487349
Dead is dead*
*except in comics
>>90487197
>Yo, speaking of blackouts, does anyone want to read the Daredevil tie-in issue after this?
Yes
>Nooooo, my mount! That was free DLC, you bastard!
>>90487465
Coolio! I love that issue, but how couldn't I, it's Nocenti and Romita Jr.
Oh geez, Hank is going full Ben Grimm.
>>90487521
teleports behind you
nothing personel kid
>>90487150
>I'd rather they go with the UXF route and create their own characters rather than force pre-existing characters into the Horsemen role.
I wish they'd have at least pulled a Gruenwald and dug up some old obscure mutant to use. But no, it's always actual X-Men. Or the fucking Hulk.
Oh no, an spaceship, no one's ever seen one of those ever before!
>>90487620
>an
Hurrr
>>90487599
Old obscure mutants will remain obscure as long as the current crop of writers and editors stick around, sad but true.
>>90487308
A shame. It'd be nice to see them gradeschoolers kill the shit out of her.
>>90487349
She kicked him out, then ghosted on him.
WHO IS TO BLAME?!
I'd like to think Jean is saying all that with a mouthful of food.
>>90487757Editorial, of course.
EN SABAH NUR AKBAR
>>90487620
People just see a spaceship or some spaceships. An spaceship is special
Despite not having the issue, we still get some Power Pack, natch.
>>90487887
whenever Jean says something like that it makes me think of a woman who grabs the hand of her husband when she is giving birth and needs to painfully push push push the baby out of her vagoo.
>>90487908
Hey, fuck you, man!:(
>>90487943
tmi, anon
>>90487766
>Jean can't stop shoving hotdogs into her mouth
L-lewd.
So she dies and you get her mount! That ain't how it works in WoW!I'm getting way too much mileage out of mount jokes
>SHATTER!
Pretty lazy onomatopoeia, if I'm being hones,t fampai.
>>90488054
Yeah, but we're playing Blue Dude Redemption here.
>>90488092
Walt was saving the premium ones for Thor.
>>90488163
Wellplayed.
>>90488224
KATHOOM!
>body and soul
Damn those Claremontisms!
>>90488327
He's making up for the lesser sound effects with the sheer variety in Pocky's shapeshifting.
Just barely missed it!
One final "fuck you" to the original X-Factor concept.
Seriously, just look at how happy they are!
>>90488501
>>90488448
These pages make it clear that the ship is ridiculously huge for being Achocolatechipse's bachelor apartment.
>>90488435
He is a creative big fella, ain't he?
Apocalypse escaping by becoming a plane seems kind of stupid to me. Decades later Mystique would learn to do that.
Truly the end of an era for X-Factor. A pretty lousy era too if I'm being honest.
>>90488531
Good things the kids and the leftover Morlocks weren't inside.
Time for some new pajamas!Hank, unless you're Wolverine, brown is a pretty lousy choice
>>90488677
Yeah...
>>90488686
Best Scott is Best.
Also, yeesh, guys, lay off the Pym Particles. You're disrupting weather patterns being that big.
Jesus, look at the size of that thing! That's what she said, etc, etc.
>>90488734
>Also, yeesh, guys, lay off the Pym Particles. You're disrupting weather patterns being that big.
Fuck you, I want people to see my crotch from all over the city!
>>90488734
It is a pretty neat design.
>JEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN
>>90488895
The only thing I think it could use is a utility belt with some pouches for extra glasses, a radio, and other assorted utility gear.
Haha, based sarge.
Fucking hell.
So much damage control. I don't envy Weezie.
;_'
Being Hank is suffering.
I love how dumb Beast still feels like Beast
Btw, I´m a huge fan of how Claremont and Weezie dealt with all this Jean and Madelyne editorial shit.
They managed to do something good out of it
Anti-life, eh? I know a guy who might be interested...
Nice!
>>90489399
Yeah, it actually worked out into something interesting. Speaking from personal experience, writers tend to work really well under pressure, and there's no bigger pressure than having to write with a status quo you don't want.
Mutant heroes being treated like, well, heroes always warms my heart a little.
>+ 116 posts and 78 image replies omitted.
fuck fuck fuck, so late
Worst Scott ship? y/nSeriously, I even prefer Scott/Colleen over them
>>90489612
>Worst Scott ship? y/n
N
>>90489612
Jean is worst everything.
>the guy they rescued was also a designer
How dramatically convenient!
>>90485088
Apocalypse on the side watching the fight is a nice trick on these pages
>>90489558
You missed most of X-Factor, but you're just in time for our bonus presentation!
>>90489639
>Jean is worst everything.
No
>>90489612
I think this is the first time that they get to have sex? Or at least it is "shown" to us
Am I wrong?
Either way, yeah, worst Scott ship ever. Madelyne, Emma, Lee, Psylocke, Colleen... Evolution´s Rogue... but never Jean
Quit being such a Batman wannabe, Warren!
>>90489544
And the nice counterpoint of Maddie letting Forge eat her soul on the TV.
>>90489672
>literally the reason Busiek ruined the X-men
>not worst everything
>>90489725
Panties around the knees is my weakness
Aw shit son, time for Nocenti/JRJR!
>>90489612
Nah, that's Betsy.
Colleen is an approved by this Anon ship, though.
If she'd turned into Scott's waifu, she might not be in limbo right now... although she'd have probably gotten killed at some point because being Scott means happiness is fleeting at best.
>>90487677
>>90487599
No More Mutants fucked that up a little since they had a limit on how many could be around. (tho if you need a gimmick for apoc to power up people)
>>90489680
I think so, yeah. Man, those two have been wanting to jump on each other's bones since they were horny teenagers. That was either the best sex of their lives or the most disappointing.
>>90489815
I feel like crossovers from this era, when the Bullpen was still a real thing and most of Marvel's talent lived in the New York era, were inherently more well integrated together.
>>90489838
Really? I always thought Scott/Betsy could've been... interesting, not necessarily good, but interesting. Guess we'll never know, in any case.
>>90489841
Do... you not remember Blood of Apocalypse? The Decimation storyline with Fart Drow Gambit?
>>90484643
This may sound completely daft but can anyone explain how the Mega works? I'm a complete scrub when it comes to this sort of stuff, I have no idea how I even ended up on 4chan because I seem to be the only one who's out of the loop
>>90489915
I agree, they also felt more natural and not as forced. Like the books that would tie-in had a reason for doing so.
>>90490007
>I seem to be the only one who's out of the loop
Everyone is just waiting for someone to ask the question
>>90490007
Just follow the link, that should take you to the Great X-Men Storytime folder. From there just pick whatever volume you're interested in, and inside each volume is their corresponding Uncanny issues and other folders containing the other series like New Mutants or X-Factor.
If you have any other problems just feel free to ask.
that entire x-factor story i'm yelling for beast to get blue and furry again
>>90489815
fuck yes!!
I think Nocenti does a really good job in these following pages of showing how a cataclysmic event like this looks to the average New Yorker.
Making Paco's ship look like some non-descript shape is a great idea, makes it much more terrifying, especially when you don't know what the hell is going on.
>>90484643
human beast is sexier
>>90489798
>>literally the reason Busiek ruined the X-men
>>not worst everything
Fanboys
>The end of the world
>Maybe I can watch it on TV
Heh
The inking really sells this page.
>>90489885
Ah, JRJR, before everyone got blockier than Lego guys.
And then there's this asshole!
>>90490592Is it wrong that I still really dig his art?
Shit, these jerks ain't playing around, huh.
>Fuck your Bible! I'm euphoric!
I love stylish this issue is.
>>90490689
Nope, he did killer work on Last Crusade and All Star Batman
Pffftt
>>90490304
Well, knowing it's true origin, I'm not entirely sure it wasn't meant to be a 2001 reference of a sort.
>>90491013
Oh, for sure, but I actually meant his weaker work like Superman (not AvX though, that was just a shitshow). I dunno, I just have a weakness for the guy's style, he's been a pretty big influence for me.
Well, at least you guys wised up faster than the average Marvel hero...
>>90489612
>Seriously, I even prefer Scott/Colleen over them
That's because Colleen is best girl.By the way, PMIF Storytimes are indefinetly suspended until my ISP problems are sorted
"Awesome facial hair bros" done right. You got that, Bendis?
>>90491213
I was wondering what had happened to you, mein Freund!
Hope you can sort out your issues soon!
Ass kicking time!
>>90491104
Superman had good bits. I'm a big fan of his run on Thor with Jurgens
And also that Cable mini series from the 90's
>the Netflix fights will never get this chaotic
i'm buying floppies of non-ostrander suicide squad bc of jrjr
MORE DAKKA
>>90491274
I see so much shit flung at his lazy writing without anyone ever dropping his name on twitter among comics people. Adam Warren in particular
Back before he toned it down and was a major shit talker Brandon Graham had my favorite. Something along the lines of " Bendis writing an intro for The Incal is like Mayor McCheese writing a guide to fine dining"
>>90491591Very tempted to do so as well
>>90490618
This guy really needed to not watch the Road Warrior until the tape broke. Twice.
>>90491644
That's fucking hilarious. I do miss old Brandon. He don't even come this way no mo' :(
>>90490689
No, it's just kind of jarring to see early JRJR, when he's been so square for so long at this point.
I love Scott Snyder now bc dude was getting a story with JrJr and he made sure that the finale was a long fight in the rain. He took his show
This has always been one of my favorite DD fights, and it's against some goon called fucking Ammo.
>>90490927
>Protect our secrets
Ha. Daredevil. Having a secret identity.
>>90491834
I think Snyder really takes the time to write scripts that play with the strengths of his artists
>>90491834
Ha! That's pretty cool. I gotta read All-Star Batman one of these days, if only for the art showcase.
>>90491104
Man, these guys didn't even wait like an hour for civilization to properly collapse before going full Marauder.
Classic New York!
>>90491707
> He don't even come this way no mo' :(
Yeah the Island threads got kind of nasty after the issue with the furry cover.
Fuck even Lieber stopped coming here right?
>>90491213
Well, that stinks, but storytiming seems hard enough without connectivity issues.
Hope you get that sorted fast and cheap.
>You disgust me
Damn, Matt.
>>90491912
I'm waiting on the trade, and not the 5 issue hardcover
>>90491202
>>90491274
I wonder which of Larry Hama's army buddies these guys were based on?
>>90491994
I think he posted in a Fix storytime, but that was a while ago.
>>90492109
btw, that is some Watchmen-tier Cold War fatalism. Dayum.
FUCK
>>90491570
Nor have that much Budda Budda
And on that note we're done for tonight. We'll pick up next time with more New Mutants! See y'all then!
>>90484643
The actual timeline is X-Factor #24-26, then X-Men #225, New Mutants #59-60/X-Men #226-227, then New Mutants #61
The assault on Manhattan is referenced as the reason why no one is coming to Dallas TX to help the X-Men/Freedom Force (Avengers are being held in reserve in case X-Factor can't beat Apocalypse). Magik shows up in X-Men #225 to drop off Colossus then X-Men #226-227 and New Mutants #59-60 happening at the same time. New Mutants #61 basically is a coda for the entire thing as it has the New Mutants learning the X-Men "died" (though for spoiler reasons, as #61/227 were published the same month, they don't actually SEE the actual cause of death and just the explosion of Forge's penthouse, which was the cliffhanger from #226). X-Factor doesn't find out that the X-Men "died" until X-Factor #27.
>>90491994
>Fuck even Lieber stopped coming here right?
It HAS been pretty shitposty around here the last few months.
>>90487002
He liked Apocalypse enough that he wanted to make Poccy the guy who gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton, to the point that his only request/note given to BWS when BWS was writing Weapon X, was to not show who the mastermind behind the Weapon X project was due to him wanting to reveal it to be Apocalypse in the main X-Book.
As for Archangel, he liked it enough that he had Wolverine job to Warren, who under Claremont constantly reminded Wolverine that his new wings gave him the power to shut Wolverine's flapping mouth as opposed to being impotent and unable to do anything to shut Wolverine up except cry to Xavier and threaten to rage quit if Wolverine was not expelled from the team
>>90492158
>boygirl
Just like my animes!
>that is some Watchmen-tier Cold War fatalism.
Yeah, this issue's been pretty beautifully bleak.
Real meaty cynicism. Really good colour work for the time (as far as we can tell from the digital recolour)
>>90490405
>You can watch it all on TV. It's the last program you're likely to see.
>>90491834
Snyder has admitted that he has gone full Loeb in that he basically only works with A-List artists (to boost sales of his books) and basically gets said A-List artists, by asking said artists to give him a list of shit they want to draw and him frankensteining a plot around their wishlist to draw.
>>90490088
So I download whatever issue files I'm interested in and have to use a comic reader program, right?
>>90484420
YAYAY! finally archangel! ever since the begginning of the story time I have been waiting for this moment. Some Anon told me that Angel going Archangel wasn't very impressive, but I disagree. The build up was great
>>90489612
Had ups and downs, that's why Jott is so hard to judge, but in X factor at least weezy made em pretty awesome
>>90485253
I think the X-Gene is as old as the X-Men themselves. X-tra power and all that.
>>90487051
I think the most change it got was during Remender's tenure when Opena and Acuna added a bunch of Egyptian details.
>>90492109
>>90491994
Usually Fix storytimes last long enough into the day for him to show up, but last issue's was pretty short iirc.
That was ridiculously good, the climax with Apocalypse and Archangel made all the bullshit in X-Factor worth it.
>>90484871
Anyone in comics that has had an appendage torn off/removed as often as Angel and his wings?
>>90499212
Anyone with a robot arm.
Those seem to exist mostly to get ripped off without gore.
Weezien turned a shitty concept like the original X-Factor idea into something really good
She even managed to make Scott/Jean work in the middle of the whole Phoenix Cocoon/Madelyne/Phoenix/Sinister stuff.
I do not envy what Weezie and Claremont had to fix
Btw, Archangel debut speech and the Caliban's bottom panels are awesome
>>90489184
TL;DR
JEEEEEEAAAANNNNN
>>90487002
Yes. Very much.
>>90489639
Scott is worst everything. No wonder the books turned unreadable once he became the center of the every story.
>>90507407
You're in the wrong neighborhood, motherfucker.
>>90507407
The wolverine thread is over there
