A running theme of the show is that NONE of the Gems can truly change their nature. At least not without several centuries to process said change. And even then it usually doesn't take. Garnet, Pearl, and Amy are still largely the exact same people they were 5000 years ago. That's why Rose sought a literal rebirth. She wanted a shot at being a good person, and she took it.

My own fault really. I like to take in as many opinions of the show as possible and my curiosity got the better of me.

I feel like a lot of fans don't understand the difference between a slump and a show legit becoming bad. I'm not dismissing criticisms here, but the show's still pretty good IMO and while it's definitely in need of a kick up the ass plot-wise the characters, comedy and music are as strong as ever.
